I attended a black tie function at the midland. The food was, quite frankly, not good. Whilst the starter was okay (a short rib of beef cut wafer thin and served cold - however a lot of my colleagues were served portions that were mostly fat), the main of chicken was dry and the sauce was completely uninspired. The desert was spoiled by pastry so thick you had to literally hack at it with a spoon to break it. The cost of drinks was outrageous - 6 pounds a pint and nearly ten pounds for a single gin and tonic (admittedly money 47). The bar service was terrible - despite hosting several functions the bar was staffed by a single person after ten. I would not recommend the midland for a function.

+ Place was nice, clean, room was spacey, check in was fast and professional, location was good, near to city center, even with light raining i could walk to city without getting all wet.

- Room was super cold when we entered, seems there wasn't heated for a while, and as hotel is an old building took hours to warm up. As a person sensitive to cold i had to stay in my jacket while in the room.

Overall the stay was great. However, we kept seeing charges from the hotel on our credit card! About 5 times this happened and it wasn t charges for the room and it wasn t small amounts

Also, I booked two superior rooms. One was very nice with a sitting room as advertised but the other was pretty standard and didn t even come with bathrobes!

Hotel very nice but room bcp too old ... dirty bathroom joints, bulb hanging from the ceiling .. it is unworthy of a hotel 4 star .. I spend on old TV and old air conditioning .. a 180 euro at night .. you could make an effort!

Beautiful setting to what was an amazing and relaxing day at The Midlands Spa. Perfection. The staff were wonderful, so friendly and helpful and the food was gorgeous.
I would definitely go again and will be recommending to everyone who will listen. Every week should start with an hour long massage!

I travel a lot for work and this is my go-to hotel in Manchester. The rooms are spacious and decorated well, with good amenities and things like complimentary water which makes all the difference. Breakfast is excellent and the service is always great.

We were there for the new "brunch " menu. The surrounding were lovely, the whole ambience was great, however the food let it down. Some of it was nice, but most of it seemed to have been cooked and kept "warm " (I use that term loosely ). So would not go back for this again.

I was actually quite disappointed. We booked the junior suite and was slightly shocked by how run down the room was. We left the same day.
I cant fault the receptionists though. There was a girl from greece who handled us and her customer service was fantastic. Just a shame about hotel. :(

We used a Groupon gift voucher to book an afternoon tea. Arriving a little early for 4.30 booking was not a problem. 4.30 is too late, there was a lot of preparation for the next use of the room. Service was good but could have been more empathetic. Sandwiches and cakes were excellent, scones a little disappointing but there was more than enough food.

I stayed here for two days. The service staff at the front desk was not very friendly. The whole hotel felt very worn and dirty. The carpet in the room was also dark. The toilet also had a big crack. The most terrible thing. Even at 9:00 in the morning, it started to stop water. When the bath was washed halfway, there was no water. It was said to stop for 3 hours. It was terrible.

We stayed at The Midland for one night last night and we really were not impressed! We checked in to our room and were happy with it, until we went into the bathroom. The toilet was covered in old urine stains from previous guests, a pubic hair in the sink and a long black hair in the bath. We decided to go for a walk around Manchester whilst staff had the bathroom cleaned, when we returned that evening we got in bed and tried to turn the television on, we found this hard as the buttons on the remote were too stiff to press in properly.
The breakfast was delicious in the morning and was the best part of the stay.
We had really high hopes for our stay due to recommendations from friends and relatives.
