I recently visited Austin for the first time ever and as my birthday dinner I was given four options by my sister, this one stood out to me so we went here. WOW!! I can without a doubt say this was the best meal I have ever had, and drink!! I got a Moscow mule made with peach moonshine (amaze balls) and the fried green tomato appetizer topped with shrimp. Then my sister and I shared the entree of mashed potatoes topped with shrimp, chicken and steak. For anyone reading reviews, GO HERE!! The wait was sorta long (hour & a half) SO WORTH THE WAIT!! Best. Food. Ever.
We had to wait an hour and a half for a table and i had to dine outside on top of that. Went here because of all the good reviews. They didnt tell us that they werent serving what was on the menu. Basically the waiter said its buffet style so they gave you options of what they wanted to offer and say this is whats available for you to eat and they charge you for it. I had already looked at what i wanted from the posted pictures online. If they would of told me before we decided to wait an hour and half that we wouldnt have option to pick what we wanted this review wouldnt have happened. Plus 9 dollar parking plus the bill was 82 dollars that doesnt include tip.
I ll rate this place fair because i didn t get a chance to eat here, but I wasn t happy with the service. I was staying at the Fairmont Hotel, and was looking for something close to eat.
The ratings were high, and a lot of people have left comments. That s usually how I choose where to eat in a new area.
Well because it was SXSW they weren t doing to go orders. Maybe because of tips, I don t really know. It was crowded, and I wasn t feeling that considering I was it all day. So I went somewhere else.
if you havent been there , i really dont know what the hell you are doing in austin, thier happy hour and brunch is fantastic
I can't say enough good things about this place! The roasted garlic appetizer, the porkchop and the rainbow trout were all fantastic and the service was truly a pleasure. We sat at the bar for dinner and enjoyed meeting the folks around us. Someone got a round of strawberry moonshine shots with moonshine soaked strawberries and the 'shine was great! The strawberries were a fun experience but a bit strong. We also went for brunch, which was very good but not the best we've had and was quite busy. The service was once again excellent, despite the crowds. We will definitely return next time we visit Austin!
Perfect Sunday brunch spot. A bit of a wait. But totally worth it. Especially if you're waiting socializing with a good group.
Been there three times... Food, drinks and service are always excellent. One of my favorite places in Austin.
Fun friendly fast service. Excellent food (I had the horseradish salmon. She had fried green tomatoes. It was the best!
Great hidden gem. All of their signature dishes were delicious. At least the 2 i had. Nice accommodating staff even during a busy lunch.
Probably the worst chicken and waffles I've ever eaten. Chicken batter was very thick, hard and not much flavor, then the chicken itself was over cooked. The waffle flavor was great, but hard as a rock and dry as hell. The look of the place was great, but definitely won't be visiting again.
This was our first time eating at Moonshine Grill. The wait for a table would have been 20 minutes so we sat at the community style table in the front of the restaurant which proved to be the best decision E V E R! A large family sat with us and we all have a wonderful time talking, drinking and sharing a meal. I wish more restaurants encouraged community style dining because you are given an opportunity to mingle with and learn from people you don't normally interact with. And to be honest, it made the food taste even better. We ordered the pretzels and pimento, chicken and waffles and chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. Let me say I've been on the hunt for a GOOD and flavorful chicken and waffles and I got just that this evening. The chicken was juicy and had a crunchy crust. The waffles were soft and did not become soggy when I poured on the syrup. All in all everything was beyond our expectations and hopefully we'll come back sooner rather than much later.
Tasty food, very suitable for nice meal with colleagues. Have to go earlier to prevent long waiting time.
Poor form not letting people inside while waiting for checkin for your sxsw party on Sat so we wouldn't have to wait in rain!
If you want something delicious at a great price, this is the place to go. Simply mouth watering.
Wonderful place in the heart of Austin. If you want great food, this is a the place to go. The burbon and apple pork chops are to die for. Looking for a great place after church, they have a great Sunday brunch. While waiting, enjoy a mimosa, or other cocktail, on the porch in the giant rocking chairs. They have two bars that have great service. The atmosphere is truly Austin.
Very cool atmosphere and great, interesting cuisine with generous portions. Excellent wait staff .
This is arguably the best restaurant that I've ever been to, anywhere. Every aspect: calamari, green chilli macaroni and even the damn free popcorn - amazing. I'm angry I've been here for 3 years and just now came here.
GRAIN OF SALT: I think I got the wrong thing, probably don't get chicken fried steak, don't get me wrong it was unique and delicious, but not outstanding. Best water on earth, and popcorn! Probably shoulda got a hamburger, and the sweet potato fries are TOPS. Get a hamburger with sweet potato fries next time!
Fried green tomatoes! Has different rooms so never feel like in a bus station.
We were here Sunday night with friends and family, our server was wonderful!!
Great ribs, easy service, went yesterday to see what fuss was about, and yes, very good food, a little long for wait time, but I guess everyone goes out to eat after church.
Great atmosphere and good chicken fried steak. Service was awesome.
Fresh takes on Americana and southern comfort dining. Delicious and classy. Love the all weather outdoor and the beautiful indoor dining spaces. Great place for a date.
Upscale Southern Comfort food??? Um, yes please! The food, service, and decor here are all note-worthy! Best green chili mac in Texas- yes, I said it. And the fact that it's served in a train car, even better. I have never disappointed in my food choices, and the addictive popcorn with chili powder will get you hooked from the very beginning of your meal. I only wish there were more parking spots!!
Moonshine Grill does not disappoint! Great bartenders and service!
If you're a shrimp lover definitely try their "corn dog" shrimp with honey mustard + blueberry swirl
Such delicious food!!! And the staff were so nice. There is usually a wait here at night but not at lunch. We had to try a couple times before we were finally able to eat here. Totally worth it. I had the shrimp and grits and it was THE BEST meal I've had in ages!
Great place for business lunch downtown. Super fresh comfort food.
Really good food and super close to the convention center
Great atmosphere and delicious food. Our waiter was attentive, professional and friendly!
This was a combination of stepping back in time and a delicious modern take on food. Cool looking old building is a great site. There was a bit of a wait, so we headed back to the bar. At first I was going to get a local craft beer, but the cocktails looked so amazing, I tried the Moonshine Mule, which did not disappoint. Our waiter was charming and friendly, and made excellent recommendations. The fried green tomatoes were the best I've ever had. Highlights of the meal were the hangar steak and peanut butter pie. There were a few snags (fries delivered cold and my last drink took forever to get to me) but both issues were quickly resolved (hot fries brought out and the last drink was comped). I would definitely go back.
Delicious food. Great service. Kelsey was the server today. She was attentive, but not overbearing. Its was great.
The food is good and they have a brunch menu on the weekends. It always seems to be busy when you walk in but once you get seated you really can't tell. The waiters are nice and helpful and I would definitely eat here again.
Amazing food, wine, spicy Margaritas, and king-sized delicious desserts!
I do like Moonshine, the food and service has always been very good, however they are so popular now it's not fun to go there and have to wait 2 hours to get a table and they do not take reservations. I tried calling and got a recording, when we got there they had a couple of events going on and it was a 2 hour wait. It would have been nice to have known that before hand so we could make other dinner plans.
Good but not soulful. If you like modern, west coast type this place was cute , had decent prices and an ok menu. Pop corn instead of chips and salsa or rolls was a nice touch.
Love the food, drinks, & atmosphere! Great place to have a nice dinner with your dogs also. Just be prepared for an hour wait, & unfortunately, they don't do reservations. Other than that a lovely place to eat!
Great Food! Happy Atmosphere! And your dog can be seated wth you in the patio areas!
Great selection of good and drinks in a Southern setting!
Placed an order for apps to go... pretzel sticks, crab cakes, shrimp corn dogs, and kale dip. Came to $56.00 with tip. We threw out all of the food with the exception of the pretzel sticks. When I walked in to get the food the young lady at the bar couldn't have been more rude.
This is a definite 1 and done! Have no clue why this place gets good reviews.
I love their brunch.
The food is great.
The service was great and the staff was friendly.
Service was great and the food was awesome!!! Really recommend this place!!!
One of the first places I ever had a meal in Austin - and one of my favorite spots for a treat of a meal. Great signature classic cocktails, delicious interpretations of American classics and to-die-for desserts.
Not much of a choice, menu wise. Food and drinks are meh. My friends really liked their country fried steak. My chicken sandwich was soggy. Architecture is interesting. Staff needs to work on communication skills and organization.
Great food and service. Flexible with special dietary requests
Friendly staff affordable valet parking and a very decent drink menu. Dog friendly patio, really good comfort.
You know a place is five stars when even the salads are amazing! Cornflake fried chicken salad was delicious and the mules made me forget it was 110 degrees outside. Place gets busy, but make it happen!
Staff was fabulous. Food was ok, but to be fair is not really my style.
Sweet potato pecan pie is HUGE. Jalapeno skirt steak was great!
The chicken and waffles were amazing!! And the wait staff were super friendly l, even when it was very busy. This is definitely one of my favorite places in Austin!
Nice atmosphere. Always packed so make reservations in advance or plan on waiting. There is a small bar in the restaurant with a few stools and more in back. Ask the hostess.
I have only eaten once. I had the baby back ribs and garlic mashed potatoes. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone. The sauce wasn't too sweet like many other BBQ places. The potatoes where nice and slightly lumpy, just like home made. The portions are generous. I couldn't finish my ribs (i could have but then I'd be uncomfortably stuffed). I sat at the bar and the bartenders were making what looked like good, well balanced drinks (no heavy ours that some bar tenders think all patrons want).
They have a good selection of whiskeys--not the most expensive but also a step above your typical "top shelf" like Makers Mark. The prices were good as well. Order a bourbon, neat, to go with the ribs if you get them.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. I have visited on multiple trips to Austin and Moonshine Grill is fabulous every time.
Moonshine Grill is a decent place to taste some decent dishes, well made and served as well. I've been there already 3 times for family dinner and business dinner as well. The staff is really kind and friendly too. Reasonable priced.
Favorite restaurant in Austin, and trust me I've been to quite a few. The service is superb and food is awesome, just a little on the heavy side, but you'd expect that with southern fare. It's worth going just to see the building itself, very old and tons of history.
2 hour wait on a Saturday nigh 6pt, with 195 people on the wait list for this place. They did their best to accommodate my abnormally large group of 12, and another of 15 on the same night. Servers came by routinely for drinks and prompt food orders, and we're clearly busy the whole time. Patio was just as nice as the indoor. Had kids with us so there is room for a stroller or carriage.
Much aclaimed brunch place in Austin Lively & Loved it! Surprisingly good coffee!
Huge menu! Had vegetarian dishes too but enjoyed sausages and salads! Highly recommended!
Sunday brunch is always spectacular, but limited vegetarian/vegan options. Be prepared to wait a while to be seated.
Always busy, solid american fare with a southern flare.
Oh my god the food here was incredible. I recommend the pretzels and the banana cream pudding. Ribs were incredible, shrimp and grits were fantastic, country fried steak was unbelievable.
Good place to meet for drinks and appetizers before going to the Erwin Center to see a concert or watch a game. Good appetizers!
Absolutely phenomenal service. I have a food allergy and the general manager personally came out to make sure the food was prepared properly. The staff are incredibly personable and do a wonderful job. The food was definitely A1! And the service was, hands down, the best I've ever experience and I would recommend Moonshine to everyone! Thank you guys so much for the awesome experience. Consider me a life time customer!
