This place rocks. I stopped coming 8 years ago because of the onslaught but came back today and loved the buffet as much as ever. I don't eat buffet style generally but this place has enough for two plates. Fast service

Really good comfort food, the portions are big. Our favorites were the fried green tomatoes, the center cut chop (bourbon sauce with peaches was amazing), the chicken fried steak, (massive) and the peanut butter pie!
B-R-U-N-C-H It's on Sundays. It is phenomenal. Also during the week they have a great, creative menu and tasty cocktails. Favorite part? Free popcorn before the meal!
I love this place! Been here for dinner and Brunch many times and it's always very enjoyable. Anytime someone asks me where to go near downtown I always recommend Moonshine. They brew their own craft moonshine, their grilled pork chop is amazing, and the brunch buffet is top notch! Just be sure to arrive early because it is first come first serve on Sunday mornings.
Really good food and dining experience. We especially enjoyed sitting out on the deck, the swamp cooler took the edge off the heat and we were able to enjoy our meal in a wonderful spot. Service was good and very attentive. The drinks were great. Overall a good spot to grab a bite to eat.
Visiting Austin for work, we came upon the recommendation of our hotel--and we were SUPER impressed...with everything! 3 ladies, 3 very different meals: chicken fried steak, fish, and salad. All were delish! So was the bacon dip. Atmosphere was warm and comfortable and the service was spot on! Fantastic!!!
Patrick and his partner in the Patio Bar were AMAZING!! They made us feel very welcome and went way out of their way to give outstanding service. The food was great. Best brunch ever!
Delish lunch! Our waiter was on point and so was the food. We sat on the patio, which was cooled with fans - much needed in that Texas heat! Cool menu and great drinksa!
Oh man. First time here and the experience was amazing. Great environment, friendly staff and the food is SOOO good! Dont skip out on the dessert either! You definitely get a bang for you buck here.
1st time and had an amazing experience food was great. Had banana pudding and apple pie with a table of eight. Portions are generous. Waiter was friendly and attentive.
Service was great. I especially liked the calamari dip that had a hint of horse radish in it. Great atmosphere and they have half off appetizers and drinks during happy hour.
Very good restaurant in downtown Austin. The wait is usually a little long, but very worth it. The portions are quite large so be prepared to bring some home.
Great food, great drinks, and a great atmosphere. Just be prepared for a long wait. We've noticed couples usually get seated quickly at most places so we hardly waited. Definitely try the shrimp corn dogs.
Great food, nice ambience. The service was so fast that the waiter removed one plate before we finished and the popcorn without to ask if we still wanted, other than that the service was good and quick hahaa
Great food. Good wine selection. Experience worth the wait. There's little more that need be said. The wife and I were a little off put by the hour wait but our spirits changed completely as we were seated. Quite literally my only complaint (not even worth mentioning to the waiter honestly) was that the red wine was served a little cold. Will return.
Original Southern dishes and good service complement the stylish atmosphere. The restaurant is hidden in the shadow of the convention center, but it's close enough to the heart of downtown and the up and coming Rainey street bars that it makes for a great spot to stop in.
Other than the long wait, which wasn't all that bad(because I sucked down two delicious whiskey on the rocks), this place was fantastic. The service, the mood, our appetizer, the drinks, and my perfectly cooked steak were truly out of this world. If you choose to come here, make a reservation, otherwise you will be waiting around 2hrs for a table.
The place is crazy big. Tons of seating, but somehow there is usually a long wait to get seated. Food is delicious, but pretty expensive. Service was friendly but pretty slow.
I *highly* recommend! We recently ate here for the first time...and ended up coming back the next day. The massive, dreamy peanut butter and Oreo crust pie is worth the trip! (Seriously though, you must get it.) The drinks and food were excellent. We also had superb service both times.
We came into Austin for the weekend and found this just down the road from our hotel and wow. The service is amazing and the food is fantastic! We'll definitely make this a stop every time we come to Austin.
Came here twice in one week since it was steps away from the conference I was attending. I had the street corn queso for an appetizer and the seared rainbow trout for my main course. Both were awesome. I loved the rainbow trout dish, as is, no modifications necessary. The mini cornbread were just perfect to pop in my mouth as a sweet interruption to my meal. As for the popcorn that's on the table...I don't know what they put on it, but best popcorn I ever had. Can't wait to visit Austin again just to dine here again. The service was great, too.
Moonshine offers a different environment while enjoying some great food. Its semi-upscale and great for going on dates. I prefer to sit outside on their "patio" when the weather permits. The bartender was also nice enough to make me a Mexican Martini which was not on the drink menu. FYI, do not eat too much popcorn. It will, I repeat, it will become your dinner by accident, lol. Highly recommend!
It was different, I was expecting a more traditional bar and grill. The outdoor seating was cool, the seasoned pop corn was good. Chicken and waffles were really good, I didn't care for the pulles pork sandwich.
Moonshine Grill has a great atmosphere-- the most noteworthy characteristic of the restaurant, in my opinion. I went with a large party for dinner time and we were waiting outside on the patio, which had a mist to keep you cool. Further, the decorative lights outside add a nice touch. After going inside, we had great service, but the food didn't live up to our expectations. It was good, but just not anything special. Overall though, Moonshine Grill is a good restaurant if you're looking to hang out or go for the atmosphere.
Good vibe, the menu could use a little update and bring some healthier options like broth soups, bisque, chowders, grilled or roasted seasonal veggies to go along with your choice of protein or even a side salad and some good olive oil. Parking in a challenge. The service was on point, not impressed with food options. Just you average menu items.
Chicken N Waffles is the way to go on a normal visit. The seasoning in the frying batter is almost perfect. And you can't go wrong with the Sunday buffet. Comfort breakfast at its finest.
Love this place. Great food, high end drinks, good price point. Just north of Rainey. Nightly specials. Happy hour is a price performer with 1/2 price appetizers that are tasty and unusual. For dinner, Shrimp and grits were very good, steak + fingerling potatoes awesome. Casual, can get boisterous later in the week.
Great brunch spot! We didn't have to wait very long for a table, but the buffet lines were a bit long. The french toast w homemade whipped cream and the biscuits and gravy were awesome!
BBQ chicken sandwich was quite good, great service and good coffee. Red beans and rice was oddly unseasoned, tasted like no one bothered to add any salt to it at all.
I normally don't go for the restaurants near the hotel I'm staying at, but Tom, the guide on the hop on hop off bus raved about it so we gave it a shot. Not only was the food incredible, it arrived so fast! We showed up at 7:00 and we were told that there was a 45 minute wait. We were seated at 7:30 and we finished our meal and were out the door by 8:05. I had the center cut chop and it was cooked perfectly and my wife had the rainbow trout which she said was the best she's ever had. Shout out to Sam in the bar and our server Joe as well as all the other servers that stopped by to check on us. Great food. Great service. Five stars!!
Moonshine was the first place I'd eaten in Austin, it was a hot summer day and we ate on the patio, while it was warmer than inside it wasn't unpleasant. I love the chicken fried steak and fries and I had the apple pie for desert, it takes at least two people to eat it. I've been there several times since and it is always good, the alcohol is always a must, they do such a good job on drinks, I've had almost every appetizer, except the shrimp corn dogs but maybe today will be the day, Every entree is to die for, even their salads (i'm not a salad kind of girl) are awesome. Every desert is a must try, even if I'm too full I take one home anyway. Sometimes they even have specials, like a couple of weeks ago they had King Ranch chicken with fried eggs on top, so delicious!!!!! I hav yet to make it to their brunch in order to share my experience but some day!
We loved the experience. We asked so many questions, and our server Anthony was so knowledgeable and gave our meal a thrill.
The sharable pretzels and pimento was a delight, and the hanging jalapeno steak was so magnificent in both flavor and texture that I spent 10x longer eating it that I normally would just so I could enjoy chewing it longer.
We finished with the dark chocolate cheesecake and a flight of moonshine. Afterwards we were left wondering how we had never had such great food before.
The food is the only reason it got two stars versus one. The service was horrible. Waited 45 minutes for a table, which on a Sunday evening I can possibly understand. Then it was SO loud that our server couldn't even tell us the specials. It took over an HOUR to get our food. When it did come, they brought all but one meal which took another 5 minutes before it came out. They forgot a side dish and by the time it came out everyone was done eating. Very disappointed as the food was good.
Great experience, I sat outside (even though it was a tad windy) but really enjoyed the food! The popcorn was excellent (free!) as well as the wrap that I had. I had a brownie for dessert and it was DELICIOUS!! Definitely a must try in Austin!
