I went to their Sunday buffet(which is only on Sunday) and loved all the different foods they had out. Love all the different dinning area's they have and how they decorated them. Great place should definitely go if you have a large party of people.

Consistently some of the tastiest food you can get in Austin. Never a disappointing visit to the Moonshine Grill and their staff is upbeat and friendly, too.
Nice atmosphere and great service by the waiter. Food was priced reasonably, and the menu had great concepts in everything we saw. The knock we would give is on execution. The cheese sauce on the burger was broke and gritty... all of our food lacked basic seasoning. We couldn't give it more than just an ok.
The food is awesome, I'll definitely be back for more of their chicken and waffles. Seating is kind of close to other diners but nothing that I minded. Only issue I had here was I originally showed up and was told there would 1hr 45min wait by the hostess. We decided we'd go elsewhere at first but came to the decision that this is a place we really wanted to try. Upon going back to the hostess station a few minutes later the people infront of us were told there'd be a 25min wait. So I'm not sure what that hostesses issue was but that was absurd. Same number of people in each of parties but told hugely different wait times. Very odd to say the least.
It's fancy, but I feel the food is prettier than it is tasty. The burger my friend had was okay, but wasn't as good or near as good as any of the burger specialty joins like Hopdoddy, Shake Shack or even Five Guys. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Looked great but the waffle wasn't light fluffy but more dense like corn bread. Thats just weird for a waffle. Chicken was okay but I wasn't a fan of the batter they use. All in all it was an okay experience. I certainly would go again though maybe not my first choice.
I've eaten there for years, and have never had a bad experience with the food or service. I've always called ahead when we have a large group (6+) coming in, or if it's a holiday (Moonshine is becoming a favorite NYE dinner spot). We've never had to wait for a table.
So when it came time to pick a spot for our wedding rehearsal dinner, we realized that Moonshine was the perfect spot. We had tons of guests who had never been to Austin, and they absolutely loved it. The restaurant was in walking distance to their hotel, and everyone is still talking about how much they loved Moonshine's gourmet twist on Texas homestyle food, and the awesome service from our bartender and waitstaff. We were on the north patio, and it was perfectly comfortable for our 50 guests.
Other reviewers are correct -- the food honestly gets four stars, not five, but the ambiance, the building's history, and the location are hard to beat. I haven't had the pleasure of going for brunch yet, but my favorite for dinner is a medium rare jalapeno hangar steak. The mint juleps are delish.
Hands down my favorite place to go in Austin. Sunday brunch is divine (prepare yourself for a wait, though) and you must try the shrimp corndogs and green chili macaroni during the rest of the week. Outside and inside seating available
The country fried steak was amazing, along with the sweet potato fries. Great server and a very cool setting in the 2nd oldest building in Austin Texas.
First time here and wow they have some good food. I started with the grit cake and that could have been my meal on its on. Fantastic grit cake, delicious crawfish and shrimp. Oh the hot sauce was spot on. Before I knew it, it was time for the meatloaf. The deceptive small serving was so tasty. Finished up by rolling my stuffed self home.
Good food and enjoyable atmosphere. They don't take reservations or call ahead seating so if you have a larger party you will be waiting a while. Expect to pay $13-$24 a plate.
The food is absolutely delicious, but the Sunday brunch is a little expensive. Usually quite a wait on any day, so make reservations or take a someone you like to chat to while you're in line! Parking is limited, but there are some street parking spots and plenty of nearby parking garages.
I have a shellfish allergy and had the best dining experience ever! My original entree choice was not an option because of the risk of cross contamination. Zach was our server and he let me know that it was not a safe dish and listed off some of my other options. I happily picked another dish then a few minutes later the Manager came over and told me that Zach had come to her to see if there was anyway they could make the entree I wanted happen. She had spoken with the chef and told me they would be able to prepare the entree I had initially wanted. The chef prepared it on it's own section of the grill and the manager brought my meal out and personally assured me that it had been prepared safely. I would have been happy to select another meal but thanks to Zach, the chef, and the manager it was possible for me to have what I really wanted. This was definitely above any beyond my expectations! Thank you for making my meal amazing! Zach is a star!
Waited 1 hour to be served with a party of 15. waitress rushed to take our orders but didn't complete all orders. Tried to discourage purchases, didn't offer drinks with meal. The one good thing I learned was how not to treat my guest when they visit my restaurant. I was embarrassed for the owners, waitress was not a good choice. First time eating here, definitely would not recommend.
While visiting Austin, we decided to stop by for lunch here and it was awesome. Our waiter was Charles; he did a fantastic job and made sure we were taken care of. I recommend the chicken fried steak because it had great flavor, not chewy, and not too heavily breaded. I will be visiting this restaurant, again!
Great food in an upbeat trendy atmosphere. Always busy and at peak times can have a decent wait. Great bar and area to have a drink outside while you wait. Try the greenchili mac and cheese
Service was expedient and courteous...the only downer was in the collective I was with the multiple orders delayed my food being brought to the table so it was eh...as far as hot but otherwise good portions and pretty tasty
Absolutely love this place. Food is fantastic, decent beer selection and huge wine selection. Great history behind the building itself. Be prepared trying to get there on the weekend you'll be waiting, especially since they do not take reservations. But I can't recommend it enough
My first time visiting and during buffet. I have to say the visit started rocky but how the situation was rectified made the experience so minor. I asked to speak to Steven. At first I felt like I wasn't being heard, but Steven proved me very wrong. He came to check on me and made me feel so much better I had to write a positive review just based off the customer service. The food was top notch. Everything that was supposed to be hot was hot, the food tasted fresh, and I didn't have not one thing I won't look forward to having. The server was super nice and energetic DESPITE my mood. I will always recommend this place because there is absolutely no flaw in my visit!
Love this place! Always try to eat something different every time I go. Had their veggie burger (I think it's the beyond burger) and was very pleased. Good attentive service and a large array of moonshine to order.
Mac N Cheese, Hanger Steak, the Trout, and Chicken fried steak were all amazing! Gotta admit wasn't overly impressed by their calamari but this place is still fantastic! One place you must try in Austin!
Went for their Sunday brunch and it was delicious! There was quite a long wait for a table, but we managed to find a spot at the bar pretty quickly, which was fine for us!
A little on the pricey side but food was great and we'll worth it. They don't publish a kids menu but they have kids options they can verbalize upon request.
Every time we are in Austin for any fun activity, we love coming here for dinner. The trick is to show up early, around 5:30 pm, so your wait is short. This way, we can enjoy dinner, have drinks, and just relax before we head to ACL Moody Theatre for a concert. Every dish I've had here has been tasty and abundant. A few craft beers from Austin brewers, and a pretty good selection of wines. Never had any of the desserts but they look incredible. Also, I'd recommend the valet parking as trying to park on the street or next to the restaurant is expensive and dicey at best.
Went here for lunch and am very glad I did. Great menu and service. The fried green tomatoes with crawfish on top was such a delicious appetiser, I want to go back just so I can eat this again. For the main meal I had catfish, and it was perfect. I definitely will be back here.
Love the drinks, especially the lemonade with strawberry moonshine. The chef is great about accommodating my vegan needs. I just ask for the veggie plate and it's different but delicious every time.
Super nice & attentive servers. I was with a group served buffet style & it was the best of three such dinners in Austin. Jalepeno steak was tender, rich & nicely spicy without being killer. Shrimp corndogs tastey and fun. Crowded on a wed night - always a good sign.
I've been to this place twice. Both times have been a great experience. The restaurant itself is located inside a historic house built before the Civil War. I thought that was a neat fact we were given by our waiter. The place is definitely a joy to be in; very unique and cozy. The service was great, our waiter was very attentive. The food is on the pricier side, but the Cedar Plank Salmon platter was really good. We ordered it with a side of squash and some macaroni. It was delicious! They also have a good selection of drink options. It's a good experience and some good food, but definitely on the higher-priced end.
Came from out of town for a friend's birthday and it was the best choice. Service (Kassy) was impeccable and the food was even better. The chicken fried steak was the best I have had. The chocolate cheesecake was also amazing, not pictured. Atmosphere was also really comfortable. 10/10 recommended
The grit cake with crawfish was great! The juicy pig sandwich was good but didn t have the best proportions. Falls apart super easy so be prepared to use a fork and knife! Would definitely recommend for nice comfort food within a reasonable price.
I love their mac and cheese and meatloaf. Their brunch is also pretty good, but with the crazy long waits I would much rather go somewhere like Paggi or Iron Cactus for a brunch that is just as good. Though they do have a pretty killer bloody mary and peanut butter dessert.
The comfort food is just heavenly, staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere lively but not too loud. Ribs were excellent, so were the chicken and waffles. Go here anytime you need to treat yourself!
