We went for a date night a while back and it was really full. I was getting excited since there were so many people there and it seemed everyone was hyped! It took about an hour to get seated (2 people). The waiter was nice but looked drained. The atmosphere is super nice and cozy albeit very crowded. We got chicken and waffles and I got something that turned out to be very forgettable. And that pretty much sums up the food...forgettable. It's basically a fancy/expensive Cracker Barrel but with pricey cocktails. Overall, it was a pleasant experience but I probably will not visit again. There are SO MANY other restaurants in Austin and the food scene is AMAZING so please consider going to some other place if your looking for a good meal or at least gauge your expectations. But if all you want is cocktails and ambiance, maybe this is your place.

Stopped in on our way into town. The front of house was great. They were moving a lot of people in and out with a smile.

They seated us outside, but since we're Colorado Snowflakes, moved us inside without issue.

The food was really good. But in Austin, as we came to understand, it didn't hit that high level of quality and creativity that the other places we ate did.

Solid. Recommended.

Great place to grab lunch if you want some down home southern cooking with a modern flair. Prices are a little steep, good liquor selection and helpful staff. Portion sizes are appropriate for the price.

Our waitress was wonderful and the food was excellent! I had the short rib special and the combination of grits and butternut squash was unforgettable! I didn't even like grits before! Ha
If I could deduct a half star for the hostess I would. We could see several tables open and she said there was a wait, then when we asked about the open tables another hostest stepped in and said we could be seated at one of the empty tables.

Great staff and amazing food. There were a few snobby people visiting, but that didn't rain on our parade. I would definitely reccomend their chicken and waffles. It was so good. They have a great selection of happy hour drinks and their popcorn appetizers is on point.

Great food and service. Ate here 3 times while on my trip. All 3 visits were excellent food and staff was very friendly. The Sunday brunch while $$$$$ was great. Tuesday night special was a steak and chicken combo to die for. I will be back to this place if I get back to Austin.

Not! I don't do buffet style eating and that's all they offered for brunch on Sunday. It was dark, crowded and folks were climbing all over each other. Not my idea of a good time. I left without eating. Not my thing.

Had their brunch... Been waiting years to go and finally the Stars lined up and I was able to get their when they opened. Just not very impressive to me. Lines were to long and food wasn't what I expected.

NOW their dinner is great and much better than their brunch!

The petite filet, chicken fried chicken and fried green tomatoes were amazing. The sauces made all of the dishes and ryan (our server) was amazing. He knew his dishes made lots of recommendations and was right on.

This was the best food we've had since arriving in TX a month ago. We waited less than 5 minutes for a table and the staff were all very friendly. My husband and 3 yr old overindulged on the popcorn given to start but still had room for delicious mains. My husband had the bourbon peach chop cooked to perfection and i had the stuffed rainbow trout which was absolutely delicious. We had fresh green beans mac and cheese and grits for sides and all were divine. Highly recommend!

It was an EARLY Sunday morning and we were hankering for some good old fashioned brunch food. Down to two choices, we landed on our trusty Moonshine. Having been here a few times before, I knew I was going to enjoy it, but it had been too long. I needed a reminder and it was a perfect day to be reminded.

We arrived without a reservation and were seated very promptly. I guess waking up too early for our own good had its benefits. Nevertheless, we were seated by a beautiful almost antique window against a wonderful stone wall. The interior was better than I had remembered and created a welcoming comfort.

The instructions were simple enough. Being UT graduates, the both of us, we were able to catch on very quickly. A buffet line. We meandered through the two rooms, picking from savory and sweet, heavy and light. The spread was just right. A little bit of everything to satiate your appetite. And some really amazing bread pudding to quell your sweeter side. It's fine, you can start with that if you want. You're free here, nobody's going to judge you for taking a plate with just bread pudding, finishing it quickly, and going back for more. At least I hoped they hadn't.

A bloody mary later with a good amount of kick to wake up the engines and we were back in line. The food never ran low and was always hot. With so many decisions, it was difficult to pick a favorite, but the King Ranch Casserole took a close second to the bread pudding. And a simple but delicious plate of fresh fruit was just what I needed to finish it off.

One day I have to try the real lunch or dinner menu as I'm sure it would be great, but for now, brunch has promised me deliciousness, and has not failed to deliver.

Very unique high end Americans.

Long wait for tables suck, no reservations. With it if you get bar seat, but i wouldn't wait more then 30 min... too many other places available.

In place of bread, Moonshine serves popcorn. It was "ok" popcorn but one would think if you are going to serve popcorn as a starter a.k.a the first thing your guests taste at your place, it better be damn good popcorn...in my opinion. This popcorn was a plain butter flavor with some cayenne pepper sprinkled about.

My husband is the connoisseur of the Old Fashion and makes a point to try one most everywhere we go. Especially places that claim to have the best..because, per my husband, they are usually wrong! This Old Fashioned received a 5 out of 10 stars. The really good Old Fashions are darker and the flavors more rich. This was sort of "watery".

They offer a White Lightning shot of their homemade moonshine for $5. I am not sure it was worth the price but it was good! For $5 I certainly wasn't going to "chug" or "shoot" so I sipped and savored my shot and I am glad I did. It wasn't too boozy like other moonshines..

We ordered the Moonshine Corn Dog Shrimp and Berkeley House Salad with extra avocado.

The corn dogs were fun and tasty. A large shrimp that was skewered, battered and fried just like a corn dog. The dipping sauce was good although the "blueberry swirl" was totally over powered by the honey mustard which makes me think it was more about the "look" than the taste. The Berkeley salad was just a salad and shame on me for picking salads based on whether they have avocado or not. The "simple lemon vinaigrette" was just as it reads..simple..

I had a really good experience here, even though Ive only been once. I went with a few friends so I was able to try a few things. The atmosphere was a little noisy, this is probably not a great date place but for a gathering of a few friends its a lot of fun. The food was all spectacular.

Fried green tomatoes are great! If you get a side with your meal, I highly recommend the green chile cheese grits; they are heaven!!! Michael was a fantastic waiter and made great suggestions. Overall, eat here at least once in your life.

Delicious food, amazing service, and laid back atmosphere! We had the fried green tomatoes, pork chops, and hanger steak and we were in a delectable part of heaven! The salty seasoned popcorn when we first sat down was delicious to snack on along with the refreshing strawberry spiked lemonade and pomegranate mimosas. Our waiter was knowledgeable and sweet! His recommendations were in point as well. We were happy and will return!!

Moonshine Patio was the perfect place for grabbing drinks and dinner with my friends who were visiting Austin this past weekend. The restaurant is huge with a number of outdoor patios, bars, and inside seating. We ordered some delicious southern cocktails and old fashions on the outdoor bar and then moved to the back patio for dinner. My only complaint is that the restaurant would not seat my friends and me without having our entire party here, even though the restaurant was quite empty. 2 of our friends were stuck in traffic and we didn't want to order appetizers and spoil our dinner, so we waiting hangrily (hungry and angrily) in the front room after our first drinks. Luckily the food made up for this small annoyance, My boyfriend and I split the apple glazed pork chop, side of macaroni, and friend chicken avocado salad. Seasoned popcorn and corn bread are also brought to the table. It was a delicious southern meal and everyone enjoyed themselves. I'm planning to return for brunch, although I've heard the wait can be long.

This place is pretty cool and historical. I got the chicken sandwich which was pretty good. My boyfriend got a burger that first came out cold, but when we told the waiter he immediately took it back and brought out a fresh one that my boyfriend loved.
We also got that street corn queso.. which was.. DELICIOUS. I can't even describe how amazing it was. I will definitely be going back, especially for that queso and their drinks.

I had the cornflake chicken salad and loved every darn bite. It had great flavor and was very filling. Kevin the waiter was great and oh the popcorn... yum!! No one at my table had a bad meal.

Food is really tast and love the biscuits and chicken and waffles. Tried their moonshine mule and surprisingly could not even taste the moonshine at all, and it went down very smooth!

I've never been for the brunch that everyone raves about, but I love this place for lunch and dinner. Great adaptations of Americana and 'home cookin' classics in a historic and comfy atmosphere. Classic cocktails are available from the inside or patio bars while you wait (and you will probably end up waiting).

This place was very disappointing for the price and location. The staff was mediocre at best and the food was bland. The drinks were even lousy. I would not wait in line for this place ever again.

We were in Austin for the iHeart Country Music Festival, our friends (who are locals) recommended that we grab a cocktail and dinner here. Great choice! Food was great. Service was great. Atmosphere was so cool, my friend and I both bought a tee shirt. Will definitely go back next time we are in town. The Moonshine & cocktails were delicious too!!!

Nice cozy spot downtown! The outdoor eating space on the patio was unexpectedly charming and cool even in the middle of the day. Parking valet only. Food was very good, but pricey even for lunch. I had the steak and eggs and steak was a bit tough. But everyone else in the table loved their food. Atmosphere very cool. Our server was awesome.

Their description is comfort country food and thas definitely accurate. They give you a free basket of yummy seasoned popcorn. Loved the decor, service was good. I got the blackened catfish and my husband got the chicken sandwich. Both were good and we shared their pretzels

The chicken alamondine with artichokes in a lemon butter sauce was very good. I was told by others in our party the chicken fried steak only got flavor from the sauce and it was ok. The kale and cheese dip was really good. Overall experience was enjoyable.

Best chicken fried steak I've ever consumed. With Chipotle cream gravy and green chile grits. Corn dog shrimp? Oh yeah....with a blueberry mustard swirl. And banana puddin' in a jar. Outstanding.
