Everything about Mohonk is amazing, but you do pay for it. There is daily newspaper, where the days organised activities, such as archery, hiking and tomahawk throwing as published.

As well as more than enough to do in the grounds, staff are always friendly and happy to help with anything you need.

Mohonk has incredible terrain - stunning - gentle yet rugged. That is the outstanding quality of Mohonk. The beauty of the land and the trails that show it off. We walked a number of easy trails: the Lake Trail, the Lily Pond Trail and the carriage trail to Sky Top.

We loved the trail walks we took with naturalist Mike Ridolfo. He is informative, engaging and entertaining.

The yoga classes and the qi gong, tai chi and meditation classes with instructors whose names we don t recall were very good. Ending our stay with a restful meditation class was perfect.

The buildings themselves are special. Beautiful 19th century wooden structures they remind me of an old Eastern European look of what I would expect of the Czech spas. Lots of that rustic Adirondack cottage look.

The rooms are nice. Beds a little soft.

The staff was helpful. Even though the cost of Mohonk puts the stay in the luxury category, the people who work there are easy going, go out of their way (literally) to help you to create a relaxed, not pretentious feel.

Mohonk is renown for its meals. We loved the breakfast, where they took workaday items like French toast and oatmeal and made them really good. The toppings, berries, nuts, jams were of subtly excellent quality which made this our best meal. Not a huge variety, but sufficient.

We wished dinner was as good. They tried too hard to make each dinner dish complexly special.

The chocolate texture dessert was excellent. Here s where the complexity worked. A few outstanding pieces of chocolate cake, ganache and others made this very good. My dining companion liked the fruit dessert. Different fruit preparations came together well in one dish.

My favorite dish of the four course meal was the risotto. It appears and stays as an airy fluff - a great combination of surprise textures. And it tastes good.

The amuse bouche (a small melted goat cheese preparation) that started the meal did stimulate the taste buds. The precious one scallop second course was good, but not great. These tiny dishes better be good. Their richness is what keeps you from being disappointed by the portion size.

Both of us felt that our main dishes were overly salted. My companion felt that about her small portion of sea bass. The beef that I ordered as medium rare was quite rare. A disappointment. (of course I could have sent it back for a little more fire). It is as not as minute in size as the sea bass.

At the beginning of our meal our waiter extolled the sorbet which would come after the main course. It never came.

We were given Parker House Rolls, in a throwback to the fifties.

With all these criticisms, I must admit we don t like highly complex, overly sauced preparations that go by the moniker gourmet meals. If you do like this type of meal, this might be the place for you.

The waiter exemplified the quality of the staff. Upbeat, outgoing and a nice person.

There is no tipping. You are charged a 15% administrative fee which Mohonk states goes toward paying staff well.

I sense from reviews that this four (actually six) course offering is an improvement over a former three course meal that ended with cheesecake.

Mohonk is a special once in a lifetime experience. If you live in the Northeast it is worth staying one day to have this exposure to the incredible terrain of the Shawgunk Mountains. We are glad we went for everything we did and saw there .

You can get a day use pass for trails only for $21 on weekdays and $26 on weekends. We will definitely return for that.

Only went for a day trip to tour the facilities and eat lunch. Had a great time between going to the barn museum, greenhouse, breath taking views from the house and walking on the trails. Lunch was buffet style with great options.

A breathtaking natural setting, and a hotel that takes you back in time to a gentler time, with today's amenities. Like a Spa with indoor pool for the Winter months, and all the outdoor activities you can fit into a day in other months.

I recently attended a wedding there. The food was great and the scenery is beautiful. That is where the good reviews end. The staff was so disorganized. Nothing happened on time. In fact the wedding was rushed because of this and the guests were practically kicked out because the had to set up for another event. They actually started setting up while the guests were still there.
To get to where the ceremony takes place requires a long walk on a dirt path. Since most of the women are dresses up and in heels, it is difficult and dangerous to walk this path. They had one cart to transport guests but that had to be used for the elderly guests and it wasn't on time.
No one seemed to know what they were doing. I expected so much more from this place because of the reputation.

Beautiful getaway tucked into the Hudson Valley. I went for a day hike plus a massage at the Spa. Love the spa there. It is well maintained with all the amenities- hot spring tub, steam and sauna. Two complaints: you cannot order food sent to the veranda, even though there is a restaurant on the premises. Electronics of ANY TYPE are prohibited and in this day and age, that needs to be modified. 95% of people I know read on e-books. My sister-in-law who was SILENTLY READING was told to put away her book. Meanwhile, a party of five on the other side was having a ridiculously loud conversation that was much more disruptive to the peaceful atmosphere they are attempting to maintain. I understand banning phone conversations, but ebooks?? Other than that, I would recommend and return. Massage and the surroundings well worth the price.

Beautiful and scenic views, very friendly staff, not great food and not great installations. Needs to be polished so the price is equivalent to what you get. There are activities to do but on a schedule that makes it annoying because you'll be with 40 other people doing it. It was a good experience to have once I difficult to come back to this place.

Wonderful hiking and riding trails, perfect for either a pampered stay or a peaceful retreat, appreciate of nature or spiritual rejuvenation. It is truly a one of a kind place. No description truly does it justice.

I have been here during the summer & winter which offers great activities for the whole family. The spa is great for parents and the indoor pool / lake is perfect for the kids. This is ideal for a couple days, but a week here would be a little tough.

Such a nice time with the family here. I am very luck to be able to have stayed here.
There are many fun things to do! I spent a majority of the time running wild with my younger brother! We went hiking, rock scrambling, mountain biking, canoeing, paddle boarding.

Oh and we ate! The breakfast lunch and dinner in the mess hall are awesome! Its like an upscale all you can eat buffet. They were very accommodating to my vegan diet which was nice.

The restaurant was nice as well. We ate there a few times. They made the best cheesecake I've ever had. And it was vegan.

The staff was also very friendly and accommodating.

We had a few issues with the dining situation in the restaurant. We were a party of 15 or so and were told that we could fit everyone for a family dinner at one table. We ran into some trouble and it was rectified which was nice.

Also, one night in the mess hall, we had reservations and it took some time to get seated, which was unfortunate.

Overall, I am glad to have stayed here again. It is a great spot to be with family and I would go back, given the chance

I only went to Mohonk to hike the trail. I found the rock scramble to be challenging enough to be enjoyable. The rock scramble clearly marked and easy to follow. The view at the top was amazing and we'll worth the trek. I did get lost coming back down after the house back to the parking lot so better signs would be appreciated there.

I have told many people many stories about how fantastic Mohonk Mountain House is. I have seen them start to doubt it's as great as I say. After they visit I ask "Was it as good as I described?" They always respond by explaining it was BETTER than I described, but they didn't actually think that was possible. I've never met anyone who didn't want to go back.

This a beautiful place! The grounds and gardens are magnificent. The place is rich with history and the family clearly takes great pains to retain that feeling. The views are gorgeous! If you love hiking this place is for you! The lake is stunning and so clean it's like swimming in a cool refreshing glass of water. There are rowboats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboats and stand up paddle boarding. The spa is also fantastic!! The staff were all polite and attentive. We were treated with little extras for our anniversary.

The reasons I couldn't give 5 stars are the kitchen renovation caused a change to buffet style which was only okay and the Lakeview Victorian room at 900 + a night was small. The view from the balcony was great from the 6th floor but it is a small balcony and it is on top of the next balcony. I would go back only if they drop the buffet style meals for regular menu service with wait service.
Overall, it was a lovely break from the hectic world in a beautiful narural setting.

Went for the day to get a massage. It was the best decision this year! I had a kind man, Greg, as the one to give me the rub down. He was fantastic, filled with so much energy and excitement! He began by coming in with 7 drinks, I never knew someone could handle that much liquid. He then prepared the oil by pouring 4 and a half different oils together to make an original combination, which left my skin pleased for days. He did a new "speed beat" technique, fresh to the massage community; where the therapist quickly tenderizes you. Even though the massage is the same in length, the fast paced rubbing loosens the muscles and quickens blood flow, leading to a full body relaxation. And if your shoulders are born in the problem like mine, you'll definitely need it. We then ended with at 30 minute meditation, complemented with intense and a real Monk. Overall it took 3 hours, but felt like 3 minutes! You go Greg! Can't wait to see you soon.

It is a very nice mountain house and property. It is a bit old but that adds to its charm. I think a day pass is more than necessary and getting a room for a night is a bit too expensive. I would recommend taking the hike up to the lighthouse on the top of the mountain. Make sure you go the easy way though, because the hard way is like rock climbing with no harness.

Very pricey, but offers an amazing experience. The food is one of a kind and included in the room rate. You have access to all the outdoor sports from hiking trails, to skating rink. The indoor pool is huge and you can access for free until 9pm. The spa? One of a kind! Daily pass is $25, that grants you access to the outdoor hot bath, the indoor steam room, sauna, and some free products for facials. Lots of lounge spaces to relax too.

The Monhonk Mountain House takes you back to the late 1800s and early 1900s with beautiful woodwork, fireplaces and very friendly staff. It is amazing to dine in the main dining room and look out the window and see the Catskill Mountains to the west or the grounds of the hotel to the east.

We were day guests, which means we had lunch, afternoon tea and cookies, a tour of the house, and access to the hiking trails and gardens. As well as the big porches and the rocking chairs. We went with a group of seven. Hijed first, visited the gardens, then had tour and lunch. Lunch is buffet style, with different stations. Carving station had roast beef tenderloin and swordfish along with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. There was a ramen bar, a sandwich bar, a made to order pasta bar, a sandwich bar, a salad bar and a dessert bar. Also offered was roast chicken with a garlic veloute. Ice tea, lemonade. All food well prepared and quit delicious. After lunch, we split up. Some hiked, one went to barn museum and one went to draw in the garden. We attended an afternoon performance of singer Lindsay Webster, then had tea and left. A wonderful day.

My boyfriend and I went as a day guest and it was unbelievable great. Absolutely beautiful and relaxing place. People are extremely polite and very nice. Food is delicious. The only thing is that this place is expensive. One drink $15 or $18. Wrap cheese and turkey $20. One bottle of water $2. But it's worthy because it's so relaxing and beautiful.
You should go to the Barn Museum is amazing. They have a lot staff that were used 149 years ago. The sunset is omg love it. I can't wait to go again and have the massage package lol.

Great location and food but had a problem with mice in my room. Problems with WiFi as well. When talked to front desk about it and they said they fixed it then I found another two mice in my room same night.

I was paying $900 a night, feel like they've fallen behind. Unfortunate because the location and place is beautiful.

Unfortunately, we were expecting to be treated like a King and Queen for the price we paid. Upon arrival they knew we were celebrating our anniversary, reviewed the bill and told us they would call when the room was ready. It was lunch time so we asked where we could grab something to eat. We asked around and was told to go to the lounge. We sat down and ordered two drinks and the waiter stated, you know we don t have a cook today ! We have gauc, cheese and hummus ! Which was brought out in to-go containers...so cheese (4 slices) and gauc and two cocktails for the price of $62!!! Okay we would not let this ruin our trip...finally around 3:30 our room was ready and we enjoyed the view. I was expecting a bottle of champagne or something as any decent hotel of this nature would do, but no. Dinner was at 715, we had no idea where to go, asked the front desk and was directed to picnic tables, which is fine, but nobody ever explained that. They asked upon booking indoor or outdoor seating. I m thinking over looking the water??? Um no!

I had a spa appointment the following day at 11:15, but check out is at noon and the showers aren t available due to covid so I called the desk inquiring for a late check out and was told, what are you asking for?, a late check-out? Cause I can t ! Well she gave me until 12:30 which I had to literally run up to from the 5th floor to arrive at my room at 12:28 and no time to shower. That was the biggest waste cause my relaxation went out the door. Not to mention I had to wear my mask throughout the entire treatment. I m all for safety, but c mon. She was less than sweet and courteous.

We walked away spending a small little fortune. The food was nothing special and we were left to figure it out on our own.

A grand old Hotel commenced toward the end of the ...

A grand old Hotel commenced toward the end of the 19th century in the Shawangunk Mountains of New York, being a sort of foothills to the more famous Catskills. But the Shawangunks are interesting and fascinating in their own right.

I have spent many a weekend at Mohonk, and its former sister resort, Minnewaska, in the 1970s to 1990s. I have not been back since, yet am familiar enough to make some observations. Both have beautiful scenery and associated high plateau lakes. And both were founded by relatives, and, if I recall accurately, the Phillips family. Minnewaska itself originally had two hotels, was reduced to one by fire, and then the latter itself burned down, circa early 80s. Minnewaska then became, unfortunately, a State Park...

Mohonk was always the more substantial of the two, as most of it is encased in stone. It also has become somewhat famous after having been filmed in the movies. A massive, beautiful, two floored wood decking overlooks the lake, and which formerly served as the main entrance. As years passed, the entrance for Mohonk was moved to the 'back'... so that visitors had to enter a converted rear, and probably service, entrance. Anyway, speculations aside, this did leave the huge, classic Adirondack decking for strict relaxation purposes: it forms the heart of the structure.

Many delightful, even spectacular, walks, progress directly from the Hotel: some lead up the Mountain that cradles it, other progress out to various overhangs and outlooks, while still others work down to interesting field areas, or out into the woods. Perhaps the most classic walk is that directly up the side of the mountain to Mohonk's tower.

As it has been awhile, I cannot obviously comment on the food. But while I was there, it was uniformly excellent. The rooms are all very different, naturally, and some have working fireplaces. The staff and owners were very pleasant and inviting.... So please do not miss out on one of New York's treasures: the gorgeous Mohonk Mountain House.

It's a great place to to lounge around and read a good book. There are many trails you can walk on and even one that climbs up a mountain to an observation post. Went there for hiking on their pristene paths. Not being an overnight guest really makes you feel like a peasant with not being allowed in the house or even allowed to buy food for some strange reason. But the views were incredible and well worth the cost. The resort is all inclusive from what I could tell which seems for fun for big families so you dont have to plan ahead for visits
