Great Service from Deric and Zack Hurst Olds at Midwest Power Equipment in Okemos mi 48864
Great customer service. And very skilled technicians.
Brought my equipment in for repair like everybody else does this time of year. I was told about a two week backlog. I wasn't shocked, that seemed about the norm, but I asked, "why so long", the gentleman at the counter who was very pleasant said "come with me, I will show you..." He took me into the back service area where 7 technicians were all at benches working on various equipment, air hoses blowing, pneumatic tools chattering away and said "here, look outside..." I peeked out the back door and have never in my life seen so much equipment! Unbelieveable amount of service work. I had always heard that they were very good at what they did but like many read some of these reviews about slower service and poor customer service. Well, let me tell you...13 days later my equipment was finished, I actually got a chance to meet almost all of the people who worked there..12 if I remember correctly and not a one was rude or abrubt with me. The mower looked like new, started and ran well and the price was very reasonable. I asked to speak to the owner when I picked up my machine, he came out (younger man actually) and politely intoduced himself and asked what he could do to assist. I thanked him for a job well done and thanked him for providing the service they have. Until you see what this company actually does for you behind the scenes, it is easy to complain about slow service. Amazing job Midwest, simply Amazing.
Midwest has always been good to me in terms of responsively caring for my equipment. They are honest and will give you their opinion but let you decide when it comes to repair. My $200 lawnmower needed $200 in repairs... So they let me decide. I gave the mower another chance and they fixed it, probably one last time:)
One of the best service outfit I have dealt with (and I used to work at one). Always professional, very direct and when they say "2 weeks" you can set you clock on it. Will continue bringing my stuff there for service and buy there when I need to. Top notch!
We decided to purchase a self-propelled push mower as we have been putting it off for a few years and decided this year was the right time. Emailed Jon asking what he suggested given our budget and needs and he was prompt and quick to reply with a Toro 21385 be his suggestion. The specs and warranty for the price are unbeatable. Jon is the absolute best to deal with and would recommend anybody looking for power equipment to at least give Midwest a look. A+!!!
I've called this place roughly 30 times and not once have they answered the phone. Left a message or two to have their retail sales call me and still nothing. Oh well, plenty of other Stihl dealers in Michigan.
Always great service and really good advise (use pure gas in your small engines!) that has saved me money.
TORO POWER CLEAR R-TEK 2 CYCLE 141cc ENGINE SNOWBLOWER (purchased by my dad from Midwest before his death)
Blower sent in for a checkup to prepare for the snow. The jiggling choker & broken electric start button weren't even noticed. It is a $500 machine that I can't use because the crucial choker and electric starter weren't checked in the CHECKUP! I paid for a checkup! I would have paid for the repairs and given more $$!
I am 48. At 46, I had a massive stroke was in a coma for a month in 2018. At age 47 in 2019, I had 2 cancer surgeries & chemo.
Midwest, remember you never know the circumstances of your clients so you have to take care of their machines bought from you as if they were your own.
* The owner's response to any bad review seems to be that there's no record in their system and the customer may have gotten them confused with another company. I am not just spewing forth reviews on the internet. I have a receipt and a business card from Derek Hurst with this store on it.* My husband put a deposit down on a used lawn mower, was told it would be ready in a week. They gave him the run around for a month. 1st they had to order some parts for then engine, then it was a flywheel then it was over heating. He ended up paying an extra $100 for a different mower. The least they could have done was give it to him for the same price as the orginal one they couldn't fix after telling him it wouldn't be more than $1600. I would have just got my money back and went elsewhere. He had to drive there twice and its a 3 hr round trip. * Update* mower is now leaking fluid and of course they cant find the purchase in their computer system. I do still have the receipt but I'm sure it won't do any good as there was no warranty.
I purchased an Automower 450x from Jon and his team last September and will be purchasing a snow thrower from them soon. I have 2 acres that it mows without issue. If you are debating joining the club, call Jon and he will walk you through the best decision of your life. Their customer service is the best I ve dealt with from a local company. I could very easily purchase from a store in my area ( I live an hour and a half away), but Midwest has earned a customer for life. Thank you for your expertise!
I just want to give a shout out to the guys and gals at Midwest Power. I've dealt with them for years and they have always just been so awesome. I had a small problem with my self propelled push mower yesterday. Today I called and Sherry walked me through some troubleshooting and my mower is now working. She helped a 68 year old lady fix her own lawn mower. Thank you so much. YAY!
Impressive inventory and very fair prices on good used equipment. Jon is a straightforward guy to deal with. I would definitely go back for any future needs.
The crew at Midwest Power Equipment are awesome. I bought an electric mower from them. I love it, and they have been super responsive with assistance. I will definitely keep using them for Husqvarna equipment.
Needed nonethanol fuel and they filled my cans and carried them all the way back out to the parking lot and loaded them in my truck. Thats what i call service, and with a smile
This place is expensive and will put your mower outside, unlocked to get rained on while it is in for service. The staff can also be persnickety. That being said, they have good inventory and are unfortunately the best Toro dealer around.
Went in knowing what I wanted got a lot of good info and friendly conversation, no up sale or pushy people
I am in service business myself and know how hard to find a company with customer service, these guys will be there for you 24/7. They weill respond to emails right away, if you want a phone call they will call you. They are awesome, i live in Houston but will only buy from these guys from now on! Thanks Jon
Awesome service and although its not fast they did an excellent job and I am very happy with the repair and their customer service. I would recommend them to anyone. Just make sure you give them time to repair it.
They always have good answers to my questions about lawn care, mowers and they take great care of their customers. If you're looking for a reliable mower retailer, repairer and source of information Midwest Power is the place.
Excellent place to do business. Helpful and knowledgeable. Fair priced.
Personal Attention To Your Needs and Professional Service
I am in my 60's and began mowing my lawn about 5 years ago. I told the owner that I have some arthritis and needed something that wasn't too heavy so I wouldn't hurt myself. John and his staff worked patiently with me to find a mower that fit my needs. Anytime I had a question, the staff was happy to assist me. One of the staff members even made a video for me because I couldn't remember how to use my edger/trimmer. THAT is the level of customer care that is typical for Midwest Power.
I also started snow blowing in my 60's. Again, I had the same issues and once again, a very positive experience.
I've had to replace both pieces of equipment because I didn't service them as I was advised. I'm completely responsible for that decision and have replaced my equipment and am a happy returning customer.
Midwest Power makes it easy to service the equipment by picking it up and dropping it off to me for no charge. In this day and age, I really welcome that type of service.
Whether you are a professional landscaper or someone like me, Midwest Power caters to everyone's needs in the lawn mowing and snowblowing department. Their prices are competitive and they stand behind their products. I would give them 5 million stars if that was an option!
Guy I talked to over the phone was nice. Don't have the part in stock and can't give out part numbers. Ill take my business else where when I get the part number.
Nice people. Very helpful. I tend to stay away from box stores for purchases like this for the sole reason get service after the sale. Price was better than the box stores as well.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff and great products
Ok I was there yesterday twice after over two weeks I picked up my saw that was in for repair. When I got home I realized that none of the parts I paid for were on the saw. I went back now it's like 20 miles one way, not to happy the sales person talked to his boss and told me it would be fixed today. 40 more miles and 3 hours and they returned my saw with old parts plus a new chain and a big discount, thank you for making things right. I've bought parts there for a while but never any service. I hope next time it will be better. I didn't have a problem with the original time to repair or the price. But the work has to be done and correct.
This is a great company, I have dealt with them for over 30 yrs. John & his staff are very professional. They will take care of your needs many years after the sale, or even if its just parts or advise. Call them & stop by you will be glad you did.
I was looking for an automower online and came across Midwest. They took the time to explain the features and helped me decide what was the best option for my lot. I choose the Husqvarna 430XH.
My questions were answered in a timely manner. I felt like I was a regular customer. Now if I need parts for any of my equipment I will be calling Midwest. I would definitely recommend midwest power equipment.
Midwest is absolutely the best from sales to service. My brother had bought a Toro Titan last year and he has been blown away by its performance and quality. So this year I decided to get a bigger and better mower then my old Husqvarna Zero Turn and went with the Toro 2000 series 60" Zero Turn. This was the best decision the power and overall setup on this mower is truly a beast of a mower. Jon is the best to work with as he is just a down to earth great business man. I will definitely trust Midwest for all my other power equipment needs. We need more Small Businesses like this one that truly value there customers and go above and beyond, Keep up the great work!
Might help if they actually answered the phone instead of sending you to voice mail and never returning your call. Poor service in my opinion.
Super friendly sales reps, and great customer support. It was an absolute pleasure to do business with them. They really helped me out with my husqvarna automower. I will recommend this place to all my friends and family even though its 45 mins away. Sometimes you have to drive a bit for that great service.
This shop will go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied. Mower runs great now!
All my interactions have been very positive. Everyone of the repairs done there have lived up to the promises. The owner has always supported the local schools with advertising purchases for various events.
Fast, Friendly, clean and professional. My snow blower was up and running the same day!! Highly recommend them!
The crew here are incredible. Great to work with, reasonable and helpful!!!
Friendly, professional and knowledgeable very happy with my purchase and now my maintenance.
This place is awesome from customer service to great deals on equipment. I was originally browsing just looking at pricing and found two different lawn mowers and had emailed asking the cost out the door price and the next day I got an email which turned out it was straight from the owner Jon and he quoted those two lawn mowers cheaper then what I was thinking so then I went ahead and asked a price on the more advance Toro Titan Zero Turn Mower again got a quick reply with a price that was better than the big box stores which was awesome. Jon even offered to deliver the mower, needless to say dealing with Midwest was the best and easiest mower purchase we have ever made, and we defiantly will be recommending them and going back to them for all of our power equipment needs. Thanks again Jon for everything!
Well since I paid more to fix the chain saw then it cost to buy new one of the same brand I dont think I would recommend. This is why it's a throw away society now. 40 dollars for them to look it it then 72 an hour
The place has probably everything you need.and reasonable prices.they started selling propane so love that
I had issues similar to those listed below at the start. I brought in 2 Stihl Saws, a chop saw and a Chain saw for service. The chop saw was a mess, bad bearings and carb. The chain saw ran poorly and had a broken choke. The chain saw came back to me in a box and I was told poor compression and needed new pistons. The chop saw sat for seven weeks and complications arose. Bad bearings.
I have been buying Stihl saws from this place for 25+ years. Service was always a bit slow but it always came back in top shape. This time was different. Saw in a box with BAD diagnostics (chain saw) so my trust was broken. I went to pick up the Chop saw and was told it had bad bearings. I blew a gasket and the clerk called the owner
JON.
He bent over backwards to make it right, much farther than I would have and I also own a small business.
He told me to return the saw in a box and the chop saw would be done at cost.
Well it was all handled immediately, my saw reassembled with a new choke lever and my chop saw runs like a dream.
That was above and beyond. The old mechanic was fired and the new one is top notch. Five stars for Jon and his new mechanic.
Just recently purchased a new SnowBlower from Midwest. What a great experience! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the equipment they carry is great. My new Toro Snowblower has been a dream for the snow storms we have received so far. Wet snow, dry snow, no problem. Jon (the store owner) showed me everything I needed to know to run this machine and it has been a pleasure. What a savings over having someone plow our driveway every year.
I have had my equipment serviced here for the last few years always honest on what needs to be done and great service great staff.
Melissa made buying my lawnmower a simple, pleasant experience. She found a mower that met my criteria and set up delivery quickly and I was out the door in 30 minutes.
Serviced a lawn mower. Very professional and great service. Thank you Derek.
This is a customer oriented business. They are driven to help you get the proper equipment for your use, not just to get a sale. Service of your equipment is excellent, a huge reason why I am a repeat customer.
Bought a TracVac pull behind Lawn Vac which had to be ordered from the vendor. Was keep informed of the process and when it arrived it was assembled quickly (no easy task). A damaged jack stand on the unit was fixed quickly by Midwest and then promptly delivered. Good experience all around.
Always very helpful. I've bought a snowblower there and repair service is great. Better than the box stores.
Melissa is a Gem! Her knowledge is very trustworthy and her explanations are easily understood. I like Midwest Power!!
Ordered a part o couldn't get any where else around here in the area
Thanks for all the help guys
Walked in and was greeted right away, he recognized what I needed before I said anything, walked back and picked it off the shelve, rung me up and I was out the door. It was less expensive then online.
Had a tree fall over a week or two ago during that wind storm we had. Of course all my chains are dull as dull and my saw wasn't running all that great. Brought the saw in, explained I had a tree down, they got the saw fixed in about a day and the chains were razors through the downed tree. Thank you Midwest, Job well done!
Very friendly people,,they know what you need to about anything that is about lawn equipment.
Our snowblower quit working properly. My husband called to speak with John and within an hour or so he sent a guy out to check it out. They even brought us another one just in case. The guy checked it out and got it running right away.
Thank you to Midwest for great customer service!!!
Great place friendly group of people stop in. And check them out
If you need something that's got a motor a very good place to visit the owner is very awesome and very good sales people there knowledgeable they want you to walk away very happy and satisfied with the product they sold you a very good home town business
Great service they know there business but hire a different actor for your commercials he makes you look like idiots.
Bought a carb kit online from them and when it came it was missing a part. Called this morning and explained the issue and the missing part is being shipped today from them, no questions asked really. Good Job righting a wrong that really they wouldn't have known anything about as box was sealed.
Will return for parts in future. Fast shipping to Minnesota too!
Bought my Husqvarna zero turn from them last year,Great people to do business with.I dealt directly with the owner, told him what I wanted and he directed me to a great deal,he actually talked me out of spending more money, how many times do you here that! Will continue to do business with them from now on and tell everyone I know about them!
You have to wait a bit for the parts department sometimes but the quality of service, suggestions and parts is amazing.
I went to Midwest Power Equipment this afternoon looking for parts to repair the starter on a 40 year old lawn tractor. I took in the broken parts and the original manual. Martha looked online for me for several minutes to no avail. She was awesome to work with and fun to talk with.
She called John, the owner, over to help out. He looked at the broken parts asked a couple of quick questions and then went directly to a shelf where the need repair kit was located. He even told me how to complete the repair.
Thanks, Martha. Thanks, John.

Great service, great experience. Busy place and I can see why, they know their stuff. Lots of product to look at all displayed in a manner in which one can see and investigate. Went in for a snowblower and I pretty much knew what I wanted. I was offered free setup, free delivery and all at a price less than what I had seen online and at other stores. Great job guys (and gals)!
Friendly, knowledgeable people with wide selection of great equipment and accessories!
I went here today to look at and buy a new snowblower. I was in the store for 10-15 minutes looking closely at them while being ignored by 3 people at the counter and another on the phone. They could easily see I was looking at new snowblowers but yet not one person asked if I needed help. I would have even been happy if they noticed me and said they were busy and would be with me when they could.
I've had this happen here before. I would prefer to give my business to a smaller local company rather than a big box store, but in this case I think I would have had better luck at Home Depot. I cannot endorse this company, unless of course you like being ignored.
Slow service. Plan to spend 15 minutes to half hour just to pick up a part.
Been doing business with this company for years and so has my Father I'd recommend them highly the sales women is the nicest person you could ever ask for and john is a great person as well love the service and respectfulness you receive when in this store always let you decide and never push anything on to you or make you feel the need to buy something you don't want
The reason for 3 star review: I went to the store with one of my friends who gave a snow blower for repair but it could not be repaired. We have to wait for a long time as the receptionist at the desk had to go through the system but could not find it but finally found the paperwork. It took even more time for the equipment to be brought from the back. We were told somebody will bring the equipment to the front but it did not happen for a long while we were just waiting there clueless. But while waiting there I see several customers who seem to be pretty comfortable and getting a good service.
AMAZING Customer Service! When our power was out for 4 days from this last winter storm, my husband was at work and I was tasked with getting us power ASAP. I called Midwest Power Equipment and Jon Brown (the owner) took time to talk me through exactly what kind of generator I needed! I'm not very good with mechanical/electrical terminology...so when I would say "I'm not sure", "I have no clue", and "What is that"...Jon took the time to describe what to look for, how I could describe what he needed to know and then how to help me analyze what kind of wattage I would need to supply me the amount of power I really needed and what fit my budget! I never felt embarrassed by my lack of knowledge or intimidate by the unknown...it was truly the best customer service experience I've had!
Thank you again to Midwest Power Equipment for giving my family the security we need with a our new Honda generator to weather any storm!
Supplied what I was looking for without trying to sell me additional items.
Fabulous experience. I, like the rest of the world last Tuesday, needed a snowblower to dig out of the massive amount of snow we had. Everywhere was sold out, including Midwest. The owner had access to order one model from toro but it wouldn t be there for a few days. I placed the order and was on my way out when he ran after me asking if I would like to borrow one until my order came in. I couldn t believe it! During a busy time like a snowstorm, he let me take a used unit he could have probably sold, home to use. That is just service you don t find anymore. Thank you Midwest, I am a customer for life!
Great place. I brought in broken riding lawn mower (it would not engage in gears anymore). Owner came out and, instead of putting me on the 2 week waiting list, he fixed mower on the spot (30min). No charge for quick fix or parts he installed! Mower works great now. It is priceless to find family owned places these days that care more about strong costumers base then a quick few $. If my mower ever breaks again, this is the place I will go to. I recommend you do the same. No doubt.
Friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff. I brought my mower in for repairs. And could clearly see a plethora of alternatives for my mower, both new and used. Glad I came in, because I'll be back!
I would not recommend buying or taking anything here for service. After 4 months of trying to get some equipment fixed, and calling every two weeks, Being told not to call them - they would call when it was fixed. I finally had to call the manufacturer who lists them as a serivce center to complain. Only then did I get it fixed - and at that it took another 1 1/2 weeks.
Do not depend on them to answer your calls when you leave a message. I waited two long days + . I finally sent an Email and AFTER they closed on a Saturday I got a response. What a way to run a business, wow !
Just recently bought a new Husqvarna lawn tractor with dozer blade and I am very happy with my purchase! Everyone was friendly and helpful with any questions I had. I did have a issue with a piece on the dozer blade breaking, I contacted them right away and they helped me to resolve the issues quickly. If you are looking for parts, repairs or even a new mower I would recommend checking this small family owned business out over the big box stores!!!
I bought a used Toro diesel 6ft. z-mower with no waranty and bought as is. Had a problem shortly after purchase and expected to pay for the repair. Talked to the owner and was quoted a very reasonable price for fixing the problem. I brought it in for the repair and was
kept informed on the progress. I would say they went beyond what I expected and would recommend them for any service work or purchase of new or used equipment.
The repair was completed in a very professional manner.
Thanks again Jon for a GREAT mower and super service.
I have spent a LOT of money there over the years. Went in today to have my $4,000 Honda EU6500is generator serviced (no hurry) (nothing wrong with it, just service) and buy a new $1,000 Sthil chainsaw they have on the shelf. The man at the counter, Derek Hurst, asked if I bought the generator there. I said I had not and he said, can't help you if you didn't buy it here. They will never see me again and I will do everything in my power to relay what they are like. I spent a lot of money in that place over the years but never again. Superior Saw here I come.
I recommend Midwest to everyone looking for outdoor equipment if you are looking for quality and professionalism. The best place I ve been at in a long time. I will do all my business with them for a long time.
Always enjoy doing business with them. Very knowledgeable parts department.
