"Worst place there is for a hospital"
Staff worry more about the people who are dieing then people who are sick and in pain. I've been here since yesterday and still nun the doctors told me I'll go for a MRI and now they tell me it's for today at 6 I HATE THIS HOSPITAL HATE IT
Visited emergency room during afternoon due to severe abdominal pain. Perhaps it was the timing, but I received prompt and excellent care, and felt very much reassured. Having been to saint marys hospital recently it was like night and day, here i got in and was seen and treated in the time it took to even get into st marys. Will definitely use this as my go to in the future, both waterbury hospital and saint marys have been horror shows.
A good hospital to go thay have good doctor,s
5.5 hours waiting with a 70 year old mom in excruciating pain. One brief interrogation by a nurse who never looked up from her computer and spoke in a monotone manner. Neither saw, nor heard from anyone else while we waited in the hall. We had to leave and go elsewhere for emergency care. If your human, don't go there. I'm not sure who or what they're treating but as a human you'll only be treated as an inconvenience and a nusence to their environment.
Went sent to ER for stomach pain and fever by family Dr. So we could find the cause.upon arriving I was greeted by a nurse asking my reason to be here.stated why she checked my temp said I didn't have 1 sent me to check in station. That was quick ,shortly after was taken room 17.
Upon going to room their was a man cleaning the room ,he wasn't wearing gloves mask etc.he was mopping the floor with dirty water from other areas ,the floor was soaking wet and smelled dirty. I was taken in .the bed rails++ tv remote ++and oxygen device all still had blood on them ..told the tech he apologized and cleaned it ...
I was so grossed out..
It wasn't busy he didn't have to rush and I feel it should have been cleaned better especially with all the craziness going on right now....
All the medical staff members I saw all were very nice, kind and professional......kudos to you all.
i was assaulted i.e. threatened by a guard for waiting in the lobby when it was raining as i was leaving this place. the guard called me a racial slur and made moves towards me as if to tackle or punch me. what kind of place is this?
Always have good experience, doctors and nurses are great.
Stay away from this place. My primary care doctor referred me to one of their offices. I went for a consultation and later a procedure with a urologist there. The consultation visit was expensive. The receptionist and staff were confused, irritable and cranky. The receptionist stated out loud in a public office the exact nature of my urology visit while other patients were in office-what about HPPA laws? On my first visit I asked what my total cost incurred was and used my debit card to pay the total. Three weeks later I got an additional bill for more money owed due to a mistake one of the staff had made in the billing procedures. They refused to deal with their mistake and are trying to get me to pay. The urology procedure itself was very uncomfortable for reasons too lengthy to get into here. Stay away from these crooks.
Great place if you every have to end up in the hospital. The nurses and entire team are extremely caring. Place is always clean...
shouldn t even call themselves an emergency room. my sister fell at work and clearly tore something in her knee, upon arrival they rolled up her pants to see just enough and did xrays to see if it was a break- mind you, my sister is a nurse and a tear cannot he seen through an x-ray. she was in excruciating pain and they sent her home with a prescription... for IBUPROFEN. at that point we could ve saved the trip and the money and gone to cvs and picked up some extra strength tylenol. I m not sure if you find your medical staff on the streets or if you just hire anyone with credentials but you guys need to seriously reevaluate you re emergency room service and doctors. pandemic or not medical care should never be rushed. Don t even waste your time at this excuse for a medical center.
Bad experience having chronic problems and felt like I was poisoned from mono gas they check my xrays to find bronchitis and they also said smoke inhalation and I dont even know if you can spot that through chest xrays.. I wanted blood work done to double check and make sure that I wasnt poisoned for it and they said it wasnt neccessary at that point after the chest xrays, and I find it unprofessional that I was denied on that for that process.. dont even know if they are allowed to do that.. only reason why I'm giving a 2 star is because the nurse and doctor were nice even tho it was a bad experience..
Came here by ambulance and the er staff immediately tended to my needs the dr was very nice and concerned about my body going into shock. I m still here and will be for next couple of days and I love the care here, I am in the medical field and worked over 10yrs in hospitals and it doesn t get better than the care you get here at mid state, MIDDLESEX IS THE WORSE!!! Their nurse put her hands on me and pushed me out the door and St Francis is sad too, I d recommend midstate medical center before any other hospital. I love the staff and environment, clean, respectful, and attentive to all your needs.
HORRIBLE!!! My mother was having a stroke in the e.r. was misdiagnosed!!! I spent 8 hours waiting in excruciating pain with my own health problem. HORRIBLE PLACE they have no right to claim they are a hospital. Not fit to treat animals nevermind people. HATE IT!!! THE WORST!!!!
Cane in thru the emergency section they ran a bunch a test found nothing wrong but still prescribed me medication, called 2 days later to tell them the meds arent working the nurse wouldn't let me speak to the doctor of the nurse that cared for me so I could tell them the meds arent working, instead she wanted me to come in again and sit in the ER for another 5 hrs while I'm already tired and irritable
The staff could stand to be a little nicer and more prompt expecially in emergency situations...but it may have just been a bad day. The previous times I have been I have had no problem.
Some crazy psychiatrist wrote a Physicians' Emergency Certificate when there was NO emergency. I wasn't evaluated. Dr. Anderson lacks the brain capacity to comprehend that relaxation isn't "paranoia", nobody gets "paranoid" from a relaxing medicinal herb. The first medical necessity will always prevent paranoia because it'll always be relaxing. I currently have the license. There's no legal justification to accuse me of "abusing" the safest and most effective medical necessity.
Dr. Anderson illegally sent me to New Britain General Hospital knowing I'd been tortured there.
No "advocacy" occured, the alleged "advocates" don't respond.
Nobody who's relaxed is also "paranoid". Nobody who's motivated is also "lazy and apathetic". The first medical necessity will never "impair concentration" or "cause depression". All of those claims are backwards.
I had to spend about 5 days in their care, and I must say they took great care of me. The staff was friendly. Everyone from transporters, housekeeping, Nurses Aides, Nurses, and the various doctors (specialists) did whatever they needed to get me on the mend. I have a great amount of appreciation for the good people of Pavilion C and Pavilion D (where I resided).
My wife also had great experiences there during the time she birthed both of our children. The maternity ward was top notch. I both of cases, I noticed that the staff all seemed to enjoy their job and took it seriously at the same time. That says a lot to me about Midstate Medical Center.
If I have one complaint, it would be the release orders in regards to the prescriptions needed. They were not easy to locate and get filled, especially in the time frame from release to acquiring said meds.. Also, the communication between MMC and my personal physician seems to be lacking, but I understand that will soon be rectified in a few years. Hopefully these both will be addressed.
Thanks again to you all for the care you have recently provided me.

This place is terrible. Had to take my grandmother into the ER after she fell in the bathroom. Arrived at roughly 9AM. Wish I took her anywhere else. It took them until 6:30PM to xray 3 areas of her body and find any injuries. In that time, she peed the bed twice because nobody was paying attention, despite being told she had to use the bathroom multiple times. In the 9.5 hours that I stayed there for, she was not once given any food or water. The thing that got me downright angry was when the PA in charge of her care was going to discharge her without xraying her right wrist, because it was the only thing that she was actually complaining about and the only thing on her body that was actually swollen, but i guess taking a look at the most obvious injury on her body was too difficult for her PA to comprehend. So, I have to give this guy big balls about that, and he finally has it xrayed. She has a small fracture in her wrist, but because we don t know that for 9.5 hours, there are now no longer and Physical Therapists to evaluate her wrist on duty, so she has to stay overnight for a hairline fracture in the wrist after being in the ER for 9.5 hours. This PA started giving me a lot of attitude, as if his incompetence was my fault. I also mentioned to 4 different people, including the PA, that she has food consistency restrictions due to dysphagia. But, judging by how her day went, I half expect to find out my grandmother choked when they tried to feed her a whole piece of chicken.
Midstate Medical Center has grown into a major, multi-speciality resource. Improvements & additions to the campus have made the place look like a large, cutting edge health care facility. But make no mistake, it is the STAFF that has actually brought about these wonderful changes.
I ve had close family members visit for everything from simple stitches to major surgeries. Each patient I ve visited has spoken glowingly about the care provided by the interns, nurses and doctors.
Can I give a negative star? The place is absolutely awful. My dad and I spent 3 hours in the emergency room just for them to tell us the diagnosis we already know. They refused to do anything for his leg!! If you re dying don t go to midstate, they will just tell you the same things that you already know and ignore the problem that you re actually in there for. Absolutely appalled by the care given to my dad under the supervision of Dr. Stanley Stutz. Stutz came in to loosely examine my dad s leg. The solution given to him by Stutz... A PAPERTOWEL. One single paper towel for his leg that was draining so much it looked like he jumped into a puddle. A ton of time was wasted on Stutz part. Over 2 hours went by before Stutz return. Upon his return he criticized my dad for his personal decision of refusing dialysis. A bunch of tests were run on my dad AGAIN when if they did their job and ACTUALLY checked his records they would see that all those tests were done less than a month ago. Stutz came back in the room like he had a problem doing his job, like he was mad because he didn t check my dads records and just started running tests. Worst emergency room experience of my life.
Sat in the emergency department for 2hrs before being seen say and waiting another hour just for discharge papers. RIDICULOUS!!!! MIDSTATE HAS TO DO BETTER
Rediculas. Been here at 3am for 2 hours now with serious infection and in excruciating pain and have not even been seen yet!!!!!! This pain is unbearable and no one can even see me quick and give me something for this pain!!!!!! Not 1 person has came in to see me not once besides to bring me in room and check my vitals!!! BS
My wife and I took our daughter here for a chest x-ray after being referred by her Doctor. She had a 105 degree fever, vomiting and diarrhea, and chest congestion for 5 days. Someone new was behind the desk and did not know the computer system. It took her over 2 hours to enter her into the system just to schedule an appointment for the X-ray. This was on a Sunday in an empty hospital with no patients ahead of us. While I hold no fault with the receptionist (she was very apologetic and accommodating), I question what leadership puts someone in a position with no training. Upon further talking with the receptionist, she mentioned that the computer system had been updated and that no one in the building would help her. She ultimately had to call a friend who works nights to get support. I wish this was my first negative experience here, but I ve experienced similar issues in the past including apathetic staff, issues with computer systems and communication, and general attitudes of sorry, I just work here. Admin has some serious work to do here. Based on the other comments on here I can likely expect some canned response like, sorry for your experience, we strive for quality yadayada b.s. save it and fix the issues.
My ER Nurse Mat was the best!!!! And Dr. Lombino was amazing!! Punctual as well! Entrance Nurse was very welcoming as well... Thank you! Continue to be of great service! Its important..... As we know health is so important!! So having a great team is necessary!!! Julianna in the ultrasound department!! you rock!!!! Keep up the awesome work!! My PCT Myra Thank you as well!! All very wonderful!
Horrible hospital my nephew had a baby they wouldn t even let me go in and see him, because I m not his sibling dumbest and most ridiculous thing I have ever heard and by the way the nurses rude I would never recommend this place complete junk! Only reason they got a star from me it s because I couldn t give them zero very disappointed!!
The very worst emergency room visit I ever experienced... I would highly recommend going to ANY area hospital other than Midstate Medical Center. I have never seen such unprofessional and rude nurses! I wouldn t send my pets to the medical professionals at that hospital.
Because you have to select at least 1 star to leave a comment I rate this one star. But if I had the option it would have received a 0. After 5.5 hours there (1am to 6:30am) with my daughter, and STILL not having seen a doctor, we left to seek professional medical care elsewhere. Clearly, we weren't going to get it there. The nurse, friendly and capable enough, came into the room about 4 times during our wait and 2 of those times were because we buzzed for her. She never offered a pillow or blanket, and never came in to ask how things were going. The floor manager who we called in to inquire about the wait was apologetic enough but couldn't help us either. Her job seems to be going room to room apologizing for the long waits and lack of care. Both explaining it is the practice of midstate to have only one physician on duty through the night, and patients often experience such long waits. When we asked at the beginning how long we could expect to be there Miss friendly and seemingly capable said she couldn't give an estimate. We should ask the doctor ( who we never saw even after 5.5 hours). When talking with the floor supervisor she informed us that MidState made it a policy not to tell patients wait times because, in essence, they were too long and too often patients were not treated within the wait time expected. We went there because it was closest to where we were. We know now that we could have driven to at least 18 other hospitals within a slightly longer drive. My advice - Google first, and choose another place for 'emergency' care.
Terrible place I was brought in on Wednesday for excruciating pain for my head and neck I was put in a room for 3 hours no one ever came in to check the nurse was god aweful she said she give me an IV. She never came back in the room. Never saw a doctor. This is the second time they have screwed me. I will never be back. They should be reported. They have. I compassion or feelings. Just people walking around chit chatting
I went to Midstate Medical for ankle/foot surgery. On the way there we hit a deer and totaled our vehicle. My sister was injured but thankfully I wasn't. They took her to the ER and I went over to the OR. Was met by the best of staff from the beginning at the door until I was brought out after my surgery. Every single nurse, anesthesiologists & most especially my wonderful surgeon, Dr Yardan, I give everyone above a 5 rating!!! Thank you. Marsha Morann
Amazing service hospitality and awesome doctors. Nurses went above and beyond. I stayed on floor 3 pavilion e. I stayed almost 2 nights and I was always comfortable. Thanks again.
My son fell and tore a chunk out of his ear yesterday. He was in excruciating pain. We went to Mid-State Emergency room and the people seemed like they didn't even care. They told us we would need to wait for at least an hour. There was another little girl in the waiting area who had been there for over an hour who couldn't even breathe. I asked if my son was going to be seen quickly and the woman in front shrugged her shoulders and rolled her eyes at me. She told me that I should expect to wait when coming to an emergency room.... NO I expect emergencies to be treated as emergencies in an emergency room. We left and went to CT Children's Hospital in Hartford and he was immediately seen and and brought to surgery. I will NEVER bring my kids to Mid-State again. They are horrible.
I just want to say thanks to Dr Benbrahim and his staff,The ER doctors and nurses and the MMC hospital nurses and their assistants in recovery that taken care of me on this emergency 2 day visit on Feb 2nd and 3rd ...Food was great.Only complaint was the TV had no built in radio .Or I could not find the button.TV stinks today since it has any good programming any more...Except for CBS's The Price Is Right...LOL..........
I'm healing and feel great. Thanks to all of you.....
MidState is the place to go instead of dealing with the New Haven traffic and parking at the hospitals there...Most of my doctors offices are at MidState and they work there too.
My experience with meredith assistant nurse was so much comfort she was very friendly awesome person..Alphonso the nurse on the other hand smart mouth but want to say he's just kinding not good when someone is very nervous. I suggest someone talk to him. He needs to think before he speak. Physician assistant was great. Buy the that was my first there.
mid state medical doesn't care about privacy. people were able to call in and get information on my mother with out even being on the call list. ill do anything I can from keeping my mother from going to mid state medical again id give zero stars but sadly google wants us to give something
I recently had my son at Midstate. What a hidden gem. I could not be more pleased with the treatment we received. The staff was knowledgeable and more than accommodating. I cannot thank the entire maternity unit enough for making my stay as comfortable as they did. Five stars to Midstate!
Doctor was 1 hour late to my appointment.Im really upset because I traveled far to get here. Not only are they not punctual they are not organized and the doctors seem to come to work to get paid not to actually do there job to the best of the abilities.Leaving this place as soon as possible !!!
The hospital nurses did write by me after back surgery I'm very happy I went there
Falsifying medical records is illegal, the authories just don't care. It's not difficult to comprehend that a relaxing medicinal herb still prevents paranoia because it's still relaxing. Without classism and racism, everybody would know medicinal cannabis saves lives. Bigots will sing a different tune when they're about to die from disease.
Jazz musicians and Mexicans don't "conspire against white people", and the 1930's are over. This archaic ignorance has got to go. If I recall correctly, the racist bufoon was Dr. Anderson. His licence should be revoked at the very least.
There was no evaluation. Dr. Andersen jumped to conclusions. The bigkt doesn't know medicinal herb prevents paranoia because it's relaxing, he presumed otherwise. He wrote a Physician's Emergency Certificate when there was no emergency. If he let me leave, I wouldn't have been agitated. He sent me to New Britain General Hospital where I was kept inside for months, deprived of medical necessity.
P.S. The "advocates" don't respond to my emails.
Absolutely incompetent and negligent.
I wish I could rate this hospital with negative stars. My father came to the ER complaining of chest pain that s radiated to his arm and jaw as well as trouble breathing. Any lay person could tell you these are signs of a heart attack. He waited over an hour to be seen. He was seen an received no medication as he had taken aspirin at home. He did receive an EKG and blood work. He was sent home with no treatment and referred to a cardiologist.
Two days later he went to the cardiologist. This Dr took one look at his EKG and sent him by ambulance to Yale new haven, a hospital with competent doctors. He was having a heart attack and was sent to the cath lab where he had a stent placed. He was then given new meds, medication adjustments, and stayed several days for follow up tests.
The difference between midstate and literally any other hospital is night and day. Please, if you or a loved one is seriously sick or injured seek care at another hospital. It could save your life.
One final thought, the American heart association has a saying time is tissue meaning that the more delayed treatment is for a heart attack or stroke, the more tissue is damged and the more cells die. How much of my fathers heart tissue died because he was misdiagnosed at midstate? This potentially took years off his life.
been here a year in Meriden Ct so far so good love all my docs nothing bad to say
Came at 12am, still waiting at 4 for bloodwork to come back, saw a nurse once, still havent seen a doctor, when I asked, they said, theres only one Dr on call
I went to the emergency room almost 2 hours wait shaking feeling like passing out and no help . No one was waiting but me and nurses talking about food . So I left because they were talking about me
This place is worst then the very fire pits of hell and the staff are worst then Lucifer Angels. They lack compassion and genteelness and professionalism. The government need to step in and investigate all the staff and I mean all of the staff of this God forsaken place.. I hope they shut down this hospital... Or at least fired most of the staff and hired people who do care and not helping just for a pay check...
The er nurse we saw was very rude to my 12yr old who was upset and trying to console his father, who was having chest pains and kidney stone pain excruciating. My 12yr old lost his dad 4x from a heart attack thankfully he's still with us,but there was no need to be so rude. I will never go back there again
They didn't even attempt to properly diagnosis my left side adonimal pain with bleeding, just took blood sample and released me with prescription for heavy pain killer which I refused, with follow-up with my primary. Primary immediately diagnosised as diverticulitis which the last thing you are supposed to do is prescribe painkiller to mask symptom. I ended up needing catscan seek later to confirm instead of getting it at the hospital when I went in with pain and bleeding. My primary was very upset at their course of action. I left then honest review in their survey.
Second issue was with my three year daughter who needed care one night after 9pm. They couldn't figure out diagnosis yet again. Instead choosing to discharge her with motrin and wait for pediatrician referral in daytime hours. Her condition was scary enough to warrant a hospital trip otherwise we would have waited ourselves for next day pediatrician. This hospital is useless, and even with insurance what they end up charging is ridiculous. I will go the extra mile to Hartford hospital from now on instead of this place in our own town. Do not recommend.
I received awesome care today starting with radiology and ending with Dr Wilson. Everyone was professional and courteous!
Worst ER Ever, I went in with pain in my kidneys witch i have history of kidney problems and these people did not even ran 1 test in me, The Staff were rude and the doctor even worst, I waited more than 3 hours to not get any test done and had the doctor told me i looked in good health so he send me home, long story short i went to another ER and came back with a Bad Kidney Infection i was admitted for 2 days else where. If you can go somewhere else do it, let me not forget when i got send to the room there was still someone elses piss all over with no ned in it and garbage all over. I took a picture too bad i cant post it
Horrible, never go here if you have anything major wrong with you. Slowest hospital on the planet and DR's literally don't give a crap. Wife went here for a very large lump behind her ear and could barely move her neck. They did a CT scan and also blood work that both came back negative. This all took 5 hours to complete and wife was still in a ton of pain but all they did was send her home and gave us no clues as to what was going on. No we are going to wait it it until morning and we will need to visit another hospital if it worsens.
We have heard all kinds of stories from other family and friends, don't go here...
The worst experience. Waited over 3 hours in emergency room. Best part was the initial admissions. Dont go here unless you absolutely have no other choice
Would like to defend other departments at MidState Medical Center. To the reviews below me...the ER is a completely differant " part" of the hospital. Infact, some the people that work there arent Midstate employees. they are under the company EMP.
When you come to the Operating room, its a completely DIFFERANT experience. From start to finish, it was a great place. Well, with a few minor details about my stay on the floor but they are irrelevant at this point.
I had back surgery AND I WORK THERE...and let me tell you...I wasnt treated any differant than anyone else that comes through the Surgical Services Department, We were all treated with incredible attention and amazing kind care. Thank you Midstate for a great experience and job
This place is a nightmare! I was completely misdiagnosed. I have tried to reach out to patient advocacy and they do nothing. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! You will not be treated properly. It is amazing that this place is still licensed.
Midstate hospital is the worst hospital in this world The rooms are so nasty the doctors are rude and disrespectful and the nurses are never focused on there patients and they are never focused
And they are never on point there bathrooms are disgusting and it feels like ur a Deli when u walk in the emergency room they are never focused
And they are so rude and mean not helpful bedside mannerS are rude and disrespectful and I don't like how they can't help me with anything I didint like how they poked me hard with the needles it was the worst thing I ever experienced and the nurses are eating at there stations fooling around and they are so annoying and they throw hand sanitizer and they take so long to assist you I don't like this hospital at all they should be ashamed of them selves
I am dissapointed In the manner that they treated me they are the rudest people ever they are no good they are no good I think they are no good as a hospital I don't like how they treat these poor patients that are sick they are fooling around with food throwing it at each other I don't like it at all they are never focused on anything and you have to tell them if you are in pain
It's ridiculous how u have to tell them
What to do its stupid and dumb
They are Rude no manners they don't say anything about nothing I don't like how lazy they are
Worst hospital ever I had a seizure and I was rushed by ambulance to the hospital no one was there to help out the nurse kept asking questions no matter how I hit my head no doctor knows what s going on and it was just disappointing that midstate is a worst place ever they said there was nothing really wrong with me and and they didint do no cat scan no mri nothing no hospital admissions nurses were rude and no helping it s redicilous
An absolutely wonderful place to have surgery. The orthopedic center is new and extremely nice. They have a monitor for those waiting showing what stage of the operation you are in. They have a wonderful waiting room like an airport lounge with places to work and plug in. and to top it off they gave my wife $5 coupon for the nice cafeteria there.
Horrible experience I've been sick vomiting a week sitting In waiting room the damn nurses are to busy texting I have a short temper for stupid people .. If I had a vehicle I'd go to St.Francis ....6 people come in after me and I'm still waiting smh
This place is horrible I waited for hours here and the people don t even check on you to see if ur ok. Don t go to this hospital
Digestive Health Services Yes Pain and Spine Institute No
Any hospital is the sum of its parts, some good others in dire need of attention. At MidState The Digestive Center is top notch. You'll find a compassionate and highly competent time.
But where the Pain and Spine Institute is concerned, my advice? If the need comes up, stay away from MidState and go find one of the men or women who still hold the value of compassion, who are on top of their field, are dedicated to reducing or eliminating pain, and who. . .will give you an appointment.
As Paul Harvey would say and now the rest of the story:
Stopped up in Meriden to get my medical records. The Institute had made me send information from four different physicians offices. I have a great team of M.D.s to turn to, and it is these professionals who recommended I see a Pain Management Specialist. Having mobility issues, in one day I wanted to a) get back the materials I had sent to the institute (it was an ordeal for me to get all that done the first time) and b) I wanted to see the notes of the Dr. at MidState who flat out refused to see me. Medical Records couldn t find anything (not their fault, the person that helped me is terrific but nothing had been sent up to her from the Pain Institute one floor down. I went directly to the first floor and ask at the front desk for my information. I was told they cannot give me things that I had another hospital send them. I picked it up and sent it to them myself. A letter or call to the agency that manages HIPPA should resolve the issue. The second part is extremely important the M.D. at MidState supposedly evaluated all my material, his assistant told me, and then he concluded not to see me. There s nothing else he can do for you, is what she said. If one of the 150 people you want to know (CT Magazine?) cannot come up with a diagnose and treatment plan it s hard to know who could. He didn t even give me the courtesy of a referral. If I don t get my medical records and the written evaluation that led to my being denied medical help, truth is I don t even know for sure that he read those materials. Over three months the Institute did nothing to inspire confidence; their only contribution to the process what to keep me stalled, undiagnosed and in pain So, I post a Yelp review and click on the write a review icon for the MidState taking small satisfaction in having done something, at least until the time comes when I can get the matter thoroughly vetted. I have so many important things to do but here I am penning this complaint. It seems fair that I let others know, indeed something morally mandated. I gave months of my faith and time to the Institute only achieving a steady stream of frustration.
Myself, I m not an M.D. but I know what it takes to get an M.S. and PhD from two of the best schools in the nation. A person with the education and mind of the doctor who handled my case would have been able to make a decision in an hour more likely a matter of minutes. I hope the notes show why I was such a low priority and why a man in chronic pain was met with an absolute absence of concern.
Excellent experience here. My daughter developed a severe reaction to an improperly dosed medication. She had all the symptoms of a severe reaction, and the med was clearly indicated. We went to Waterbury Hospital the previous evening and it was abysmal. They ignored every symptom, and she worsened while she was sitting in a hall for 5 hours, and they blew off the new symptoms, and discharged her with an antihistamine.
Fast forward 7 hours, she worsened significantly, and a friend recommended Mid State. They got her inside in seconds... We walked in, and two nurses whisked her away before we got a few steps in the door. They carefully listened, did not dismiss her symptoms, the med she was on, and ensured she would get the proper treatment, which was to transfer her to the Connecticut Burn Center (the reaction was so bad, it necessitates treatment in a burn center). We are grateful and thankful to the doctors and nurses there and my only regret is that I didn't go to this ER first.
"Fast Track" they said. Slowest hospital, in the history of hospitals. They need new management and workers.
man this place really suucks been waiting for 2 hours with my baby girl and they just past by check her and left and 1 hour more and she said the doctor will be there shortly, 4 hours here and still nothing pass by and this place is freaking empty and why i had to wait so much no emergency and like 7 people sick here with a full stack of nurses
Terrible place.. you wait forever to get any kind of scan and then wait hours to get the results! MY 72 YEAR OLD GRANDMOTHER BROKE HER HIP AND HAS BEEN LYING IN THE HOSPITAL BED SINCE 10 THIS MORNING AND IS SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY AT 4:30...HER BONE IS STABBING THE INSIDE OF HER PELVIS AND THEY JUST DRUGGED HER UP AND PUT HER ON HOLD FOR SOMETHING IN NEED OF SERIOUS ATTENTION!! And then after you finally get your results it takes another 2-4 hours to get cleared to go home and another hour or so to get paperwork signed to actually leave this place! **You are better off going to Hartford Hospital Instead. you will be admitted and attended to right away!**
Have been in the ER,couple of time, have some nurses that go step further to take care of you and make you comfortable and some that they dont have the touch. Special the young ones look that they need to develop that personal touch.,but mist of the time is good
the security guard "assaulted me" i.e. threatened me with violence when i was sheltering in the lobby from the rain while waiting for a ride. this was a pretty bad experience and i think the meriden and local police should stop detaining kids and dumping them here, perhaps they should try to prevent actual crimes, also maybe the security people at the mall and hospital could be classy people who arent poor people who basically have a criminal record that would be great, keep connecticut classy and keep medical billing a profitable industry and stuff guys, our state's emergency response teams are a bunch of wannabes and posers hopped up on the amphetamines and white supremacist war mongering ideas theyve been taking for two decades.. our entire state is a race war between pale puerto ricans, italians, and the state government is run by some italian mobsters that dont even do real crime or have money.. everyone who works at the dmv and in state government has a below average level of intelligence and they act like they are federal employees or somebody with priveleges. its sickening how we've let our government and health services pivot to the lowest possible denominator.
Midstate Medical Center Maternity Dept or Pregnancy Center (can't recall the exact name) is EXCELLENT! I couldn't ask for a better birthing experience. The nurses, pca's, Dr, food attendants all treated me, my husband and our new baby with so much care. Nurse Lace, Amber and PCA Yolanda went over and beyond! I was pleasantly surprised how good the service was. Thank you for giving 110%. I was nervous delivering my 1st baby but they made the process all the better!
The staff have always been very kind and understanding to me. I cannot under-state how important the doctors and nurses have been in saving my life. They get a lot of hate from things I've heard locally; I, however, will never have anything negative to say. But every hospital (and especially emergency departments) have their shortcomings. I trust my health and life to the oncology department without hesitation. The Medical Hematology and Oncology suite are my saviors.
I am a Type I diabetic who experienced hypoglycemia while I was driving. EMT's arrived and started an IV and administered glucose to bring my blood sugar back to normal , success. I was brought to the Midstate ER, and treated with food to further keep my blood sugar from dropping low again. The problem was no one was keeping track of how much food they were forcing me to eat which now caused a seriously high blood sugar, around 500. They solved the first problem which was the low blood sugar, but now created a new problem by over treating causing a high blood sugar. This need not have happened if someone could have kept track of the food amounts and checked my blood sugars appropriately to see where they were going. I felt my care was mismanaged. I checked myself out because I felt I could do a better job fixing the high blood sugar on my own.
I've read alot of bad reviews for MidState emergency room, maybe people were stressed when they wrote them? Maybe the ER is run totally different than the hospital???
I went to MidState Medical Center May 13th (yes in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic) for a total knee replacement. From the time I entered to the time I left I was treated like a queen. The staff is exceptional, friendly and courteous. They made me comfortable in a time where I was extremely stressed. I am 60 years old and have never stayed in a hospital, plus the extra uncertainty of the virus. From the people at registration the the food servers, and everyone in between was kind and caring.
I cannot say enough about the medical staff, they were very kind & took the time to talk to me. I know they must have had other patients, but they made me feel as if I was the only person on the floor. I know I must have been talking nonsense after the surgery due to the pain meds, but never once did I feel like I was wasting their time. I wish I could remember each persons name to thank them individually, but like I said I was on a lot of pain meds :)
I took my mom to MidState last year for surgery. She received the same caring, personal treatment as I did-so my visit was not an exception.
I've been to Yale/St. Ray's in New Haven for family members who had surgery. While the staff was friendly enough, it was nothing compared to the treatment I received. The food was also good-I never thought I'd say that about hospital food! They even gave me a voucher for free food in the cafeteria while my mother was having surgery.
Also parking is FREE, something you never see at Yale. They even offer a FREE ride service to and from your home to the hospital. I could go on and on about the excellent experience I had at Midstate, but I think I gave you an idea.
If you need surgery, please check and see if your surgeon uses MidState you'll be happy you did.
My father has been at Midstate several times for treatment of his COPD. He's currently there recovering from abdominal surgery. Treatment in the ER has been slow at times, but in my experience that's also been true of other hospitals. Otherwise, the care is good and the facility itself is impeccable.
My stay was not bad. But I'm trying to join the military, Army to be exact. I had a surgery Two years ago with my lung. I'm trying to get cleared to join the military and the one that did my surgery will not clear me as we speak. He's not doubting his work, he wants me to give him consent to do another procedure on the other side of my body in order to clear me even though he said the problem might never happen two years ago, he's still sticking to the procedure deal this very moment. One star because my life is being played with by a doctor, I will not say the name but he's a thoracic surgeon.
Worst hospital ever! Dont get here they dont care you at all. Our insurance pay for their pay checks and they still at like they dont care. Drs just sit back and do nothing. Never coming back again. Bradley Memorial Hospital is WAY better. They care about their patients, unlike here.
I'm truly blessed by this hospital that saved my mother from cancer! They helped her so much, and I couldn't be more happier with great customer service and assistance! A+!!! THUMBS UPS!!
What a terrible hospital. My wife had a broken ankle and was taken there by ambulance. Aside from one awesome nurse named Aubrey the doctors have no personality. The Orthopedic doc couldn't be bothered to see us and they never went over the scans with us.
The staff at this facility abused my dying mother. Avoid at all costs!
Nurse Sean & Dr Tinkler was great with information & attentiveness to our questions & needs. Give them a gold star for me lol
Midstate is the WORST hospital ever, the Doctors seem to be does who were rejected by all the other hospitals in the country; they know nothing. I've been there a couple of times and all the times have been a complete waste. DONT even think about bringing children to the ER. They are not equip for them and know nothing about how to treat children. I prefer to drive 30-35 minutes to other hospitals then to go to Midstate. The sad thing is that it is not only the ER but every department in there. Trust me not worth it. Very Crappy Hospital.
Nope, why would anyone come here when there s Yale and St Raphael s? Waited endlessly for supervisor to answer page and attend to my issue with nursing care or lack of that this evening. She s not responding and my next move has to be to transfer my loved one out of here to another facility before they kill her at this dismal excuse for a hospital!
For example: how about a tums for sudden burning chest pain an hour after the fact?!!!
Would you come here?
Neurologist had zero bedside manner. Stay away from Dr Justin Montanya
I had a major back operation, a total disk antroplasty on my lumbar spine, on July 21, 2017, led by Dr. James Yue. Dr. Yue and Connecticut Orthopedic Group worked tirelessly to get approval from Blue Cross who denied my operation three times summarily.
From the moment I arrived at the hospital, I was treated with the upmost respect and was provided the very best in care. I will undertake to write a much more comprehensive review as I start to feel better. What I can say, however, is I went through almost five years of pure agony, pursuing conservative care with some really great doctors, whom I respect. As it turned out, my only real option was to fix my back. I stayed in the hospital until Sunday the 23rd. The care I received from the entire surgical team was superb. Vasant Khachane, did a great job on the anterior incision, which is healing perfectly. Dr. Yue operated with the very best in surgical procedure and skill. He is undoubtedly one of the top ten back doctors in the country; certainly, he is the finest spine surgeon in the Northeast.
After the three hour surgery, I was transfer to A6, where I guess the Connecticut Orthopedic Group patients go to recover.
The facility was immaculate, and downright really nice. I was walking the very next day, albeit in pain, which the entire staff minimized. They made my stay a great experience. My nurse, Bill, was superb, as were all the nurses whom I would like to thank personally. My PA, Thomas Mangano, was also excellent. Even the young lady who was my dietary consultant was outstanding. Forget hospital food - once I was able to eat this was really good food, period.
The entire staff was caring, genuine, gentle, understanding, kind, knowledgeable, accommodating, concerned, efficient, friendly - the list of adjectives could go on and on, but it was an outstanding distinguished experience.
They took care of every single need and arranged aftercare too. I can't say enough great things about this place. To them, and to Dr. James Yue, I owe a debt of gratitude. I am walking about a mile a day - just two and a half days after discharge (I could barely move going into surgery) and can feel my leg, move the toes on my feet, and for the first time in five years feel great without intense sciatic pain that was dehabilitating and crippling. That is not to say it was an easy operation, nor will it be an easy recovery. It is to say that they did everything possible to ensure I get as well as impossible can and have placed me in a position to do so and resume living as contrasted to merely surviving on pain pills.
I would also personally like to thank the RN's, Sarah S., Bill K., Ronald L., Katrina R., Jordan M. And Anna K. They are the very finest in the medical profession and true professionals. I would also like the thank the nurse's aides - Ken M., Brianna S. and Phyllis G., as well as the folks at physical therapy.
I came from Rhode Island to Meridan to get this operation and perhaps passed over 20 other hospitals. It was well worth the trip.
If you need surgery, don't go anywhere else. If you need back surgery after exhausting your conservative care options, don't call anyone but Dr. Yue.
If I could, I would give the hospital, its staff, my doctors, the nurses , the aides, the physical therapists and the dietitian ten stars out of five!
Thank you for everything. I know I still have a bit to go to recover, but I couldn't have chosen a finer hospital or staff of true caring experts to get a great jump start to recovery. Thank you so very much!
The surgical center horrible you feel like while your waiting in your jonny coat on bed like your in a cafeteria. the nures speaking loudly about their personal life extremly unprofessional ..I was nervous about my procedure a heart implant and one of the nurses said it's so easy she could do it in her gragage. ...I won't go back ....they had no empathy HORRIBLE
Took mother to orthopedic center...very friendly, attentive and not just to patient, but also family. Beautiful and clean
Do NOT go to Midstate for emergency care. Their ER is a joke, most of the nurses are rude and doctors do not care at all. Definitely not a place for children to be seen, my son broke his arm and we waited 3 hours in the middle of the night just to get in a room, then another 2 hours for a doctor to see him. Drive to Yale or Hartford . It's worth it.
My sister fell from a 2nd story buiding. Had an open TBI, inflamed lungs, fractured zygomatic process and a fractured nose. they barley covered any information with her about her injuries and how she would recover. The team saw the nose fracture didnt tell us until we went to Bradley ER the next day and they showed us the fracture. Didnt give her a chest XR after complaining of symptoms it being hard to breathe. only look at her head for a few minutes and told she would be fine. Bradley said she was lucky to be alive and looked at her entire body! was 10x more in depth. someone should cut their funding or teach them how to be real doctors.
Beware - this hospital does not provide a pump for self-controlled pain relief after surgery. Pain relief is "controlled" in pill form, which needs at least 45 minutes to take effect. If there are surgical complications such as nerve damage, the patient suffers twice the pain, both from the surgery and the nerve damage. At best this is insensitive treatment of their patients; it borders on abuse if the pain is intense.
Worst experience I have ever had. Laid in the emergency room for 10 hours without being attended to. My vitals weren't even taken until nearly six hours after my arrival. It was nothing less then neglect. They attempted to apologize by offering a $10 Stop and Shop gift card for the inconvenience. They administered so much pain medications but failed to take vitals that my oxygen level had declined. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this hospital, the care, compassion, and professionalism was shameful.
