Medcan Clinic Review

For those wanting to get an antibody test here, go through Dynacare instead. It's $230 cheaper, and their turnaround times are faster (feel so foolish for not knowing better & getting ripped off like that!). It's now been 10 days since my appointment here and still no word - the nurse gave me an estimate of 3 days, the clinic said within 7 days. Why even pay for private healthcare with those timelines?

Excellent medical services with state of the art equipment. Staff are super nice and friendly and waiting times are almost non-existence.

Worth every penny. Dr. Bernstein and his team were top notch. They are not a diagnostic facility but a wellness centre, however I told him of a few issues I was having and him and his team referred me to a few specialists right away and things are moving a long great now.

It's very chaotic place. Yes they wear nice clothes and high hills but the service is the same or much worse than regular hospital. You are wasting your money.

My experiences with Medcan have been excellent. I initially came for a full physical in January 2020 and subsequently signed on to use their personal training service. I was out of shape and a little wary of what I was getting myself in for. However, my experiences with my trainer Simon Lim and the program he has put me through have been extraordinary. Simon tailored a program that has progressively gotten me in the best shape I've been in for the last 20 years. Every two weeks he has revised the program to build on core strength, flexibility and cardio - taking into account my age and addressing the muscle groups that needed more work than others. In the process my health has dramatically improved and I've lost 48 pounds. This has been a very worthwhile investment and I highly recommend Medcan and Simon.

Inconsistent - some doctors in their year round care clinic are amazing, some are not. Perhaps they got too big for their own good. My experience with the dermatologists have been great, but I would avoid the travel medicine clinic. The travel services are overpriced and not that thorough. I ended up going to another clinic as I didn't have confidence in what they told me.

I have been working with Simon Lim at Medcan since the start of the year with the aim of improving my general conditioning and flexibility. I also wanted to get a bit more out of my cycling. Simon put together a series of exercises that are demanding but transformative. I m eight months or so into the program Simon is supervising and I m very happy with the results. All round strength and conditioning has improved greatly while I have seen a noticeable improvement on the bike in terms of my speed and power. Both average speed and average power readings over courses I have ridden for many years have improved significantly in the past few months. I m cycling further and faster than I have in my life. Thanks Simon - look forward to more hard work!

Super expensive private medical clinic, and probably the only Canadian one in Toronto. Staff are helpful. Service is great and efficient. You can complete the entire health assessment in a few hours and the doctor would review everything with you on the same day. If you're lucky to use your corporate rate, it's worth it, otherwise too expensive! be aware!

The staff respond very quick and everything advertised as is. The service you receive at a walk in clinic is none comparable with the service you receive at Medcan. Thats why you are paying $2000. I had a great five star experience. I would have given them 5 stars however unfortunately I had a very bad experience with one of the staff who was extremely rude. I regret not reporting him.

There is no better clinic anywhere!

Medcan is one-of-its-kind, classy, comfortable and ever changing for the better. The medical team, including the founder Dr. Robert W. Francis, is out of this world.

Having been in their capable hands for a long time, we could not have choosen better when we did. All of our interests have been looked after in a timely and professional way. The care and patience we received and still do is truly remarkable.

Medcan is a gorgeous space with fine furniture and unique artwork. Just sitting their, enjoying the delicious and healthy offerings... is a treat.

Whenever I visit Medcan, I see other patients who seem to enjoy the care and professional approach. You can see in their faces that they feel truly being looked after and cared for.

Medcan never failed us. Gentle smiles await us already when we enter the Valet Parking. And now you even receive a bottle of Medcan water when you leave. It is truly an amazing experience.

Slashed our commissions to under the minimum wage which was illegal. Fired people for questioning HR. The Ministry of Labour were involved and made them pay back what was owed. Minimum wage job and getting $12 per CHA, when they cost $2,400 at the time. Dont work here. HR is brutal

I would give 0 stars if I could. UNLESS YOU LIVE IN TORONTO, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR MEDCAN! They say that if you are in another province, you can still use the online appointment option and get referrals, prescriptions, etc. just the same as if you lived near the physical location. THIS IS NOT TRUE! Time and time again they have not been able to refer me to specialists in B.C. because they are an out of province referral. I specifically asked about this multiple times before signing up, and I was reassured it would not be an issue. The service itself is terrible. Out of 3 doctors I spoke with at Medcan, only 1 took the time to listen to me and ask questions. One of the doctors even lectured me about not having a family doctor.... as if I would use this service if I had one. They do not grow on trees here in Victoria. Terrible service, I would never recommend and even actively dissuade people from using this service.

Really grateful to Medcan could not get a Dermatologist in the Cambridge Kitchener Waterloo area. Now travel to Toronto

Dr. Andrew Miners (chiropractor) is amazing. I had a two year issue with both my ankles that made walking in the morning extremely difficult and painful. I was skeptical that anyone could fix the problem, and figured it was something I'd be living with forever. Four appointments with Dr. Miners and some home exercise for 9 weeks, and I'm 99% healed. Thank you.

Thorough and efficient. I have been coming here for 5 years and though it is not without flaw, the staff, all the way from the doctors to the janitors are always eager to help and make it the best possible experience!

If I could give this place a zero star, I would. I worked here for a year and this place drained me physically and destroyed me mentally. Low wages, sub par benefits, absolutely ATROCIOUS management, extremely disorganized. Can't say anything good about Medcan unfortunately. The dollars is all they care for

World class medical facility. My annual health assessments for the past 18 years have been extremely thorough (5hrs) and Dr Aw is outstanding.

Use medcan if you like to pay $2000 a year to be told to go to a walk-in clinic if you want faster results. Call medcan if you like being transferred around to 5 different departments before finding the right person. Request a specialty doctor with medcan if you enjoy being told that they are understaffed due to covid. (Which would be understandable if each patient wasn't paying $2000 a year just to be a member). Not cute.

Too slow on results turn-around. I think I paid for the fanciness not the good service

I have been to Medcan twice and I enjoyed the experience. Quick, Efficient and Pleasant. The staff were all friendly.

Their food gave food poisoning never eat from there.

Medcan consists on a mainly a multitude of general family doctors looking to see you as quickly as possible to maximize their patients seems aka billing. Each time the doctors has no recollection to your medical history. They will prescribe a bunch of things for each scenario of what you may have; without taking the time to figure it out. There will be no follow up appointment made nor will you see the same doctor again. You can pay more for a sole doctor but they are so busy as generally inexperienced it still doesn't help the situation. The doctors are either in retirement or getting into the practice. If you care about your health think before you assume spending a premium will get you better health care. I can afford it, and know better than to re explain my situation every time and have no solution. Beware!

Thank you to Dr. Axler and staff at Medcan for making our recent and first visit to Medcan a memorable one. From the moment we arrived to our departure we were treated with warmth and compassion. We have never experienced such a professional, clean and well organized health facility before and it made a lasting impression. This is definitely a first class operation and deserves a 5 star rating.

Medcan-If you are offered a job at Medcan, think twice about taking it. Their turnover is insane. In the 3 years I was employed there, I must have seen over 200 people start and stop or get fired. Now I am hearing from ex employees that they are not getting holiday pay owed to them, some are not getting their notice pay. This organization is terrible.

They are very disorganized and unresponsive. Don't waste your money or time, much better clinics and doctors in the city.

I felt like it was a glorified GP visit with a free sandwich. The diagnostic methods used were nothing groundbreaking. Spent $3,500 and the Dr didn't even review my past medical records. This place is all show.

Definitely wouldn't recommend this Clinic. After paying for year round care, health assessments and then dedicated care for myself and my boys, I was abruptly dropped as a patient mid contract.

I hadn't violated any contract policies. Service was ended because I needed medical investigation and Medcan did not want to pursue that. They can refuse in person visits, requests for specialist follow up and do not have to cooperate with John's Hopkins referral as advertised. It is within their discretion. This isn't even in the fine print. I ended up being properly diagnosed four months later at another facility and travelling to Cleveland Clinic for follow up.

I absolutely would not have trusted them with my family's health care needs had I been aware they could walk away when things got difficult. The worst time to be abandoned as a patient. For anyone looking at Medcan as an affordable solution to socialized health care when struggling with a health issue - think twice! You can find yourself out of pocket a lot of money with no answers and back to socialized system at their discretion. Their focus is preventative care. There is no $ to be made on certain patients...they lose interest fast.

Good clinic for some - but you are paying for a fitness membership, not health care. If you need medical care, spend the extra $ and travel south of the border Or just stay in the socialized system and demand answers.. Buyer beware with this clinic for sure!

Medcan is good in concept, but they are really another money making machine. They will sell you things you don't need (genome testing for example) and other vaccines and tests that they can charge extra for whether you need it or not.
In another word, they are really good at getting you tested and processed for your annual exam but don't make a mistake and assume that they are better than your family doctor or other institutions. Be prepared to pay lot of money on lot of gimmicks.
What's great? you are a healthy young person looking to do a preventative and thorough review quickly and efficiently. Place is fancy and nice. You feel like you are in a spa. They are a machine in processing you through their clinic.
What's good? the results are provided on the same day. You leave the clinic after few hours with your test complete and your mind at ease.
What's poor? you are relatively healthy with some issues that needs follow-ups and review. You don't always get follow-up report.
What's bad? If you have a chronic issue. That's where they lose money and they pretty much blow you off even if you have been going to their clinic for 10 years. By then they have all your records and you get caught in the switching cost. You don't want to go somewhere else because they have EVERYTHING (your tests, your history, your life), yet they blow you off.
They are not for you when you need them most and that's coming from a long experience...

A very professional team delivering great care and services. Their proactive care detected my cancer early, they identified treatment options, guided me through a complex care regimen and cured me.

From start to finish had a great experience at Medcan. Which is not an easy thing to say when you are going to the doctor's office, BUT this is no regular doctor visit!!! The staff are great, and completely focused on you having a great experience, even after you leave that day. What I liked best - Get the most comprehensive physical done all in a half day! Most important, you are not forced to go back just so they can tell you all your blood work is fine! If you are super busy and value your time, this is the place for you.

I wish I had something positive to say here, but after my very poor experience here, I cannot recommend this clinic to anyone. I was kept waiting over an hour for an appointment made 3 months ago, only for them to tell me once I was in with the doctor that they did not have the proper tools to complete the procedure I was scheduled for. Complete waste of time over the last few months planning this appointment. And not a sincere apology from the doctor either. They need to get their office better organized & communicate to patients in a more proactive way to avoid this in the future. I'll never return here. Unbelievably bad experience.

Just finished my first appointment at Medcan. From the day I called them I experienced exceptional customer service. Dr. Cara Sterling is a wonderful doctor. She patiently listened to my complete medical history and gave me a plan to follow to help me resolve the issues. I understand it might be too early to review their service completely, but I truly believe they will live up to the standards they have mentioned in their website. They have surpassed all my expectation until now. I am hoping to continue under their care for many more years.

If you are seeking an alternative to Socialist Health Care family doctors, do not come here. The service is almost worse. The referral process is terrible. You cannot be guaranteed the same family doctor each time you visit. The doctors here actually convinced me to leave because I lived "too far" from downtown. I am so disappointed in this company. It is a waste of my time. Free bottles of waters!

I would not sign up here. They do not deliver what their advertised package claim to offer. Appointments are hard to get and their staff do not respond on a timely basis. Going to a walk in clinic or a regular family physician is a lot faster than overpaying this company.

False information on Google. They were not open on Sunday when I got there. The security guard in the lobby confirmed it too.

Pros: Big, spacious environment that tends to not feel like a medical facility and professional staff. Nice selection of food while you wait. Do feel they give you the 5 star treatment ( which they should bc of the cost)
Same day results and thorough meeting with the Doctor where you can ask all the question you want. No rushing. Loved that.
Cons: referrals to specialists take forever!! I waited 6 months with no luck, found out THEY DIDNT EVEN SEND THE REFERRAL on time.
So, for a few thousands, is it worth it? Yes its nice the day of but being referred is the se process of seeing your GP/emerg for free...

Listen, this place is a very love it or hate it place. I personally love it for the good service that I have gotten with doctors, their efficiency, and more. If you dislike them, it s probably for the price, but if you don t mind that it s pretty good.
