The food here is very pretty and average. Good tastes throughout but not particularly outstanding. The space is certainly ambient as it is very photographic with its flowers hanging from the columns. Had the Ferrero Rocher toast, ocean trout gravlax, Croque Monsieur, polenta chips and tuna tartare. The cold drip coffee here is good.

The food was not as amazing as I thought it would be. it was mediocre really. The salmon had a weird taste to it in my opinion abd so I felt kind of turned off. the french toast tasted a lil eggy. HOWEVER Thai place is super cute and would be a great place to have coffee. The service is amazing. One of the staff members was askedby customer to take photos and he dedicated his time an dout so much energy into it. The place also has great ambiance so although I wasn't fan of the food Thai place was still super cute
Loved the truffle croque monsieur, was definitely worth the wait (keep in mind there can be a bit of a wait on weekends as it gets busy!) Friendly service and pretty decor.
Mayflower s opening comes with a refreshed menu and a whole new look. We tried the ocean trout gravlax which I highly recommend - melt in your mouth fresh! The tart was light yet rich in flavour, went down a treat. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. Do yourself a favour, grab some friends and give the caviar tasting a go! Great service & beautiful, thoughtful decor.
We were excited to try the menu out here after reading about the chef and seeing the instagram hype. We had read good reviews of the food and had hoped we d be able to enjoy a lovely Sunday brunch. We booked well ahead of time for an 11 am seating and arrived a few minutes early. We were told that our table was being prepared and we d have to wait a few minutes outside - not an issue. Ten minutes go by and we see other smaller parties who had arrived after us getting their seats. Still, not a problem. After fifteen minutes of waiting and nobody checking on us, we finally decided to check on the ETA ourselves. The waiter told us the table was still being prepared and to keep on waiting, a small annoyance now considering we had booked ahead of time.
Finally after almost a half hour of waiting and nobody even bothering to check in on us, we asked the manager directly - the story changed from our table being prepared to the party sitting there now deciding on ordering desserts. Maybe 5 to ten minutes, I don t know was what we were told. No apologies, no efforts given to try and compensate negligence, nothing. The manager really couldn t have cared less. We realized that we clearly weren t valued as customers and the awful service would probably continue, ruining our meal, so we decided to go somewhere else.
Will not go back here and cannot recommend this place out of principle, poorly managed and the worst service I ve ever had in Sydney.
Good coffee, friendly guys. The outside tables are great unless it's windy. Downstairs is nice and quiet. I haven't tried the rolls, but the ham and gruyere toastie is THE BOMB! I kind of want to make it 4.5 stars as I would love it if they had wifi. Update: there's wifi! 5 stars all the way!
Good coffee, average food. Trying a little bit too hard to be trendy as well. There are better options all over Darlinghurst, but if you live close by it's a good option
This is one of my favourite cafe's. Hidden away in the streets of Darlinghurst, has great coffee, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Thanks for providing an awesome place to enjoy my coffee!
Went to this beautiful cafe today, seeing it on Instagram previously I was excited to see what it was about knowing it just opened. Absolutely amazing interior downstairs and the food was so well presented and AMAZING. I had the fig and buratta which was such a treat, so awesome. The only reason I gave 4 stars as the service was quite slow (understandable tho as they only just opened). So We waited a little longer then expected for our food. But overall great venue.
Would not recommend this place. Both my friend and I thought it was a rip-off, we love to explore brunch places in Sydney, and saw some people posted this place with nice decoration and nice photos of food, so we went there, firstly the dinning was downstairs with no AC, no window, it's stuffy and smelly and it's a very small area, Covid restriction definitely doesn't apply here, probably that's why it's in the basement. Secondly, the food was definitely a rip-off, the Lobster roll with a bit chips, the size is smaller than my palm and I have very small hands, but it was over $30 if I didn't remember wrong. I also ordered Guava juice, it's not fresh, not tasty, not even cool, it's warm! And the Granola, there's only one single spoonful of yoghurt underneath that thick, dry, and strange roasted oats, i only had a few spoons and couldn't have it anymore. I can guarantee you that this was the worst brunch I've ever had. Would never go back whatsoever.
This place was an experience within its self.. The decorum was lovely, best croque Moncier I have ever had, everyone needs to Order it!!! Lobster roll was good but not amazing. Could have been a bit more juicy imo. Polenta fries were good but a little bit dry! Over all great time!!! Highly recommend
I ve been coming here for a while now and their coffees are really good especially Vietnamese iced coffee. It saved me during this heatwave. ohhh and the food is amazing too like the chicken banh mi, definitely will come back for more!!
Fabulous new cafe in darlo with the cutest decor both upstairs and in the downstairs dining space. Definitely try the truffle Croque monsieur! Also, coffee is consistently fantastic. Will definitely be back in a couple days
Had lunch here this afternoon. They were extremely unorganized and moved us to different tables 3 times despite us having a booking?? We also weren't given menus until we asked for them and the food was below average. Overall pretty disappointed, would not recommend this place.
Very original and yummy. Try the cauliflower side and the black pork katsu (the juiciest and tastiest katsu I ve tasted). The Tooth Fish is also extremely creamy and tasty the taste lingers a long time on the tongue. Also very romantic with an unbeatable ambience.
Delicious colourful creative food, great for those who love truffle. Friendly service, lovely atmosphere and decor. And fyi, the marble stools downstairs around the communal marble table are not stuck to the floor, they just weigh 100kg each!
Ok the decor, the atmosphere, the staff and service are AMAZING. I would give them five stars. But the food was a little underwhelming; I got the pork burger and was salivating thinking of the crisp apple and crunchy slaw to go with it, but was disappointed to get a few tiny slivers of salad compared to a whopping chunk of pork (tasty though) and a bun that is too soft (brioche, not a great choice) which becomes flattened as soon as you take a bite. For $24 I kind of expect a decent balance of flavours and textures, sorry.
Shocker. Had read the reviews and was keen to try the Croque Monsieur with truffle. We ordered two and they came out wet and soggy (kinda like a used sports sock) with zero truffle. It's the kind of place you'd go to photograph the food but not bother actually eating it! Also the downstairs area is like an armpit, no AC and jammed in like sardines.
Terrible service. It is an unclean kitchen. The service is the worst cafe I have ever experienced. Coffee is not good, food is not good. I will never go again. Don't be fooled by Instagram.
We were attracted by Instagram. This location is really inconvenient because we drove over from a long distance. We were arranged in the basement near the stairs. The whole room was filled with a strange smell. The ventilation was very, very bad. Especially during Covid-19, I felt very unsafe.
They put the fridge at the door of the toilet. I doubt their hygiene is up to standard. The whole toilet smelled of fish.
The food's ok, I have to say it's very ordinary, not amazing. The coffee is very ordinary, tasteless, very watery, and not worth the price. The service is good, but the check-out speed is way too slow, it takes a long time to pay.
Amazing fresh dishes that aren't crazy high Sydney cafe prices , a healthy menu inspired by Vietnamese ingredients and lots of vegeterian options , run by such a lovely owner and team of staff. Mushroom bowl was the dish I tried and it was made in under 5 mins and tasted incredible.
The gravlax that isn't lax but trout is an incredible dish. So well balanced and tasty. Really eats as beautifully as it it looks. And the truffle croque monsieur is so decadent and rich. Pastries and coffee are also excellent. Decor, music, service and chill vibes are all on point. Can't wait to try more from the menu.
We had a bad experience here. Ordered two cheese toasties, they gave the order to the wrong table. Then it took them 15 more minutes to bring us the right order. Not a big deal, but you'll expect a bit more attention and detail
Mayflower is a place of great coffee and food. It s not only about the taste, but the look and feel. The amount of photos people make every time they get their dish is enormous! The place gets a little disorganized when it s busy, but it s not worth worrying about. The atmosphere enables one to enjoy themselves and their time in a cafe.
Very nice coffee and croissants, chilled vibe even at peak hours, it s a sure caffeine pit-stop whenever in the hood - even with my two hyper toddlers who are always welcome and treated very friendly by the staff. Thumbs up!
An absolute beautiful place! The decor is so elegant and clean. I can t fault the food it was delicious, ordered the ocean trout gravlax with the truffle shavings add on, croque monsieur and truffle hot chocolate. Thank goodness for truffle season because it added that extra melt in your mouth deliciousness. The staff are attentive and so friendly. The owner Kevin is a gem and very caring. My little nephew couldn t getting his eyes off the array of gorgeous flowers and they kindly provided a high chair too. I will be returning for sure! Don t miss out on this place!!!
Really nice place, service attentive, expensive end of brunch. The croque monsieur was yummy But very heavy. The 2 of us split it and we still found it heavy. Gravlax and meringue were both beautifully presented and delicious. Sitting outside on a slope and tiny table was a bit tricky to eat (cutlery sliding off 3 times).
Decided to try this place out with friends and we were all far from impressed. Decor is great, but they're really capitalising on the 'social media influencer trend' and they've neglected to focus on their customer service skills. We'd booked well in advance, however two couples were waiting for tables when we arrived, one had obviously arrived earlier than the other, and the table was unknowingly given to the other couple who had arrived later (resulting in customers who gave up and walked away). The food is ridiculously overpriced and there is no alternative for those who choose not to eat caviar. For example, their eggs benedict is $32 (which includes caviar), but there is no option at a reduced price for anyone not wishing to eat the caviar. There are only two options for sides, which include iceberg lettuce for $12 and chips, instead of your usual sides like eggs, bacon etc. so the menu is very limiting, particularly if you don't eat caviar.
We were then 'politely' moved on after one hour, as there were other people waiting, even though we'd booked well in advance and there was no mention of a timed sitting. One hour is no where near long enough for a group booking of four on a Sunday morning. The food that we did receive was okay, but I wouldn't put it anywhere on par with their competitors in the area and certainly won't be wasting my time or money returning.
Very disappointing experience. We went there not long after they opened after reading the reviews online. Went there and was told that there would be a wait of about 10 minutes. We waited. 25 minutes later, nothing happened. Someone came over and said that there would be a table very soon. So we kept waiting. After 40 minutes, still nothing. Eventually about 50 minutes later, they sat us at the counter near the entrance. Ordered food. No cutlery provided and we had to ask for them. Very average food with limited creation for the price it asks for. One dish was missing from the order and we had to remind them when we paid. Was extremely disappointed at the service. Would not recommend and would not go back.
Came here based on the enticing photos online. We knew it would be packed and hadn t book in advance so I called in the morning and was told walk-ins were allowed. We arrived, put our names down and were told 15-30min wait. It was raining so we waited in our car outside. At the 40min mark there was still no update so I called the cafe as it was pouring and I didn t want to step out. The guy on the phone said he doesn t even work physically at the cafe (??) and that he s simply the point of contact for bookings so he had to hang up on me then call the co-owner then call me back. Sounded so inefficient I could ve just gone to the cafe myself if I knew the phone line was useless. We finally got seated at the 45min mark then it took ANOTHER 40mins for our food to arrive during which time I couldn t even flag down staff members. There was a loud table of women next to us dining on caviar and champagne and it seemed the owner only had time to serve them. Clearly the rest of us meant nothing simply because we didn t spend the money. Only reason I m giving 2 stars is for the food - it was lovely - but the service lost me. Plenty of places in Sydney to go to instead.
I love the Mayflower! The food is incredible, with each element perfectly balanced and tasty. The coffee is really good too, plus the whole place is beautiful. I love how you can go for a simple but delicious eggs on toast, a bit lush with the trout gravlex or all out with the lobster roll and cavier. Really suits all tastes and budgets, with always friendly staff.
I would highly recommend the king prawns with uni butter and Ferrero Rocher french toast.
This place looks pretty and 'instagram worthy', but don't let that fool you - they focus on the quality of the food on their menu and the hatted chefs certainly deliver. I thoroughly enjoyed the truffle croque monsieur with 3 types of cheese and prosciutto and the caviar taster. My wife had the lobster roll, also served with caviar and I'm pleased to say she enjoyed her first caviar experience. Between the two of us, she's the pastry addict and she mentioned that the glazed French toast with berries, ricotta and jam was the best she's ever had. Highly recommend this place and I can't wait to go back for their caviar menu.
Love this cafe... consistent 10/10 customer service from Kev, Steve and the team, great coffee and a brilliant spot to sit, relax and people watch... Do yourself a favour and call in!
If you re looking for a cafe to which you can enjoy the atmosphere and hella good food. Look no further, I do however recommend you make a booking where possible to ensure your place.
The service is friendly and professional and there is BYO available where they will provide you with glasses
If you ve never liked caviar and think it tastes fishy, the beluga here will change your mind. Melts with flavour with no gamey after-taste with the additions of their sides which I found enticing (usually I hate fishy dishes).
I d also recommend the truffle toast (bigger portion than the photo I found) and the ocean trout. Especially their coffee as well!!
Seriously one of the only places in Sydney I d have my coffee without sugar and will feel absolutely safe with the quality every-time ! I asked and it s because their compressor is automated and consisted by machine and their coffee machine times to ensure it comes out just right !
Photos are credited to their Instagram as I m not much of a photographer... ENJOY !!
