Friendly neighborhood joint. Serving sizes ranged from generous (grilled fish) to big enough for two (ribeye steak). Food was nice but not exceptional. Our server was friendly, attentive and efficient. Prices were a little high, but I'd go back.

Not very impressed. The shrimp had a chlorine like taste and smell. The catfish was fried to perfection but had no flavor. The upside was that the service was excellent
Mandinas used to be one of my favorite places. This last visit, I got a grilled shrimp po-boy. It was okay, nothing spectacular. Two other people in our party got the bruceloni and it was awful. The meat was extremely dry. We will of course go back again hoping that they were just having a bad day. It was very busy and we were there late.
This place a has a wonderful true New Orleans atmosphere and friendly servers. The soft shell crab is a must order if you get the chance and of course the bbq shrimp po-boy was an absolute winner! If you get the chance to stop in while in NOLA, you won t be disappointed.
Mandina's is a loud, crowded, neighborhood restaurant. One must stand at the bar, because there is no room in its tight quarters for stools. Once we were seated (20-minute wait)I ordered the Grilled Shrimp Salad ($13.50), which was huge and delicious (no negatives), and the couple that joined me ordered a Seafood Platter ($24.95), which did NOT come with a salad, but did come with French Fries. It was loaded with Catfish, Oysters, Shrimp, and a large Crab Ball (which I sampled and thought was extremely good). The lady said she thought the platter was "average", but the husband said he thought it was "very good". I would recommend this restaurant. RJT
Classic nola restaraunt. Seriously loud at times so not a good place if you're looking for a romantic or personable dinner. Lunch is more quiet. Turtle soup is on point.
Waited 30 minutes to be seated and they put us is the crappiest table they have. It was pushed up against a pole and was being braced with a piece of cardboard under one of the legs because the leg was short, making the table tilt. Then we waited another 2 hours to get our food and when asked if we could speak to a manager, they told us there were no supervisors or managers on duty at the time. Are you serious? Don't waste your money here.
I have been coming here since 1973- I have never had anything but great food and good service. It really seems incredible. For the price better than Antoine's and Commander's. For desert walk over to Brocato's if you want two great new orleans experiences at one meal.
The food is fresh and well seasoned. I loved the atmosphere and the staff was excellent. The only reason for 3 stars is the preparation of the shrimp. They do not devein the shrimp which I can't understand in such a nice restaurant.
Food was good, not perfect. Great onion rings but shrimp was too cold when it was brought out. Waitress was busy and we had to ask for things more than once.
Creole Magic!! Have made this a regular stop in every trip to NOLA. Was referred here by a local and have never looked back. I have yet to be disappointed by any dish here, but I'm especially keen on the catfish and the GUMBO. Outstanding!!
Food tasted good, but the use of some bottom shelf ingredients was evident in the finished product. Shrimp was excellent, so was the veal, but the pasta tasted like Dollar General pasta
I don't understand the 5 star reviews. Canned peas? Canned green beans? The portions are healthy but the flavors are nothing notable. There's so much great food in New Orleans, why spend a meal here?
I don't think you'd be dissapointed with any of the food here. We had the crawfish cakes, turtle soup, gumbo, and shrimp poboy and they were all amazing! The service was very friendly and prompt, food came right out. Would definitely recommend
This is a good option away from the FQ and CBD that always has great food and service! We had a group of 8 there during the Essence Fest and everyone enjoy their meal. I went with the waiters rec on the fresh gulf fish topped off with crawfish etouffe that was amazing! But I have been here several times and always walked out full and happy! It's def worth a try!
Had the catch of the day pontchartrain and it wasn t so good. Small portion of fish over dark dressing like substance that was supposed to contain crab - yuck! In back room and extremely loud. Hard to hear anyone speak.
a very rude waitress. we were not greeted or felt welcomed from the beginning. if tourist are not welcomed. why be open on Mardi gras weekend. prices seemed high for the horrible service.
We visited Mandinas on a Sunday afternoon at 12-big mistake. The place was busy and we were told it was a 25 minute wait so we gladly put our name on the list and went to sit on the benches out front. Finally after 40 min the hostess realized that she had skipped us and we were seated in a relativity empty back section.
On Sunday there is a special menu that basically consists of home-cookin for an outrageous price $18-25 for fried chicken and peas.
The food was too salty and was nothing to write home about. Then when our bill for 2 came in over $50 we were told that it was cash only which of course led to an ATM fee at the in house ATM.
I love Mandina's and have been going there for years! That being said, the last 4 times that I went for dinner they were out of softshell crab which is one of their main specials. 3 out of those 4 times they were also out of oysters. I realize theres a seafood shortage right now, but you wouldn't expect them to consistently run out by 6 o'clock in the evening at a popular dinner spot! Their food is delicious, when you can get it!
Great Italian restaurant with traditional plates and seafood offerings. They have been around for a long time and it is easy to taste why. Solid restaurant with old time appeal, not noisy for the size crowd. A definite staple of New Orleans dining experience.
Mandina's is a local restaurant for locals that cooks local-inspired food. The trout almandine is probably the signature, but everything is tasty. However, don't plan on doing anything bold after, because the meal is serious, and it's a bit heavy if you are not ready for all the deliciousness that makes its way to your plate.
Not knowing quite what to expect, my daughter, wife and I went to Mandina's early afternoon this Sunday, 5/31. We were pleasantly surprised to find the old place was just as wonderful as ever.
We were seated without delay in the main dining room, which had most of its tables removed, to honor the 6-foot spacing requirement. Attendance was modest in the early afternoon -- a little past 2 PM. The service was up to its usual high standard; Melissa waited on our party hand and foot, bless her.
My wife had only a light appetite, and she went with the crab claws in wine sauce. My daughter ordered the chicken parmesan, while I had a cup of seafood gumbo and the Gulf fish amandine. All were excellently prepared, with generous portions and were thoroughly delicious. Melissa was most attentive during our meal, and saw to our every want.
All in all, our visit made for a very pleasant afternoon -- a brief return to the new normal, which still includes many of the delights of the old normal. Mandina regulars should not tarry -- but hurry back to enjoy this quintessential New Orleans dining experience. You will not be disappointed.
