Great friendly service and the best Seafood Gumbo in New Orleans.
Potatoe Salad and Brunswick stew was good. Rest was lack-luster. Employees were very friendly.
The spaghetti and meatballs is a simple dish but something about it is really comforting and I went back for it. I should try the seafood next!
Good Portions of Great Food! Our First Choice every Friday Night when We get to NOLA!
Gumbo FTW!
I ate at Mandina s in New Year s Day, as a lot of places we re closed. What a gift that turned out to be. I closed my eyes and gave thanks for the special of the day, which was soup and sandwich, which in NOLA can translate into gumbo + oyster poboy.
My god. Both were delicious! The gumbo flavor was rich, just amazing. And the half oyster poboy could have been its own full meal. NOLA brings out a greediness in me that is not pretty, as in, the gumbo filled me up, but the oysters (with slaw on crusty bread) were so good, I ate everything. The food was so delicious.
On this day, the kitchen was sending out sample-size portions of black-eyed peas for the new year, and they were savory and rich as well. Definitely, go to Mandinas!
My server was friendly and attentive too.
The best friend oysters and truly the best onion rings in the world - yes, the world!
Fantastic seafood options, very generous portions, amazing service, and cozy ambience!
Hadn't been to NO in about 20 years, but I am from southwest La. We came from New Mexico to visit family in April 2016 and had the best seafood platter I have ever tasted. Everything was cooked just right. I shared with my 5 year old granddaughter, who can put away some shrimp! and then passed food around to the whole table. We don't get good seafood here in Albuquerque area, so I was looking forward to enjoying dining in NO. Certainly was not disappointed. Thanks!
Everything was DEEElicious! Service was outstanding! King Cake Cheesecake was da bomb!
If you're looking foroverpriced, worse than average cafeteria food, this place is for you!! Our local hostess recommended Mandina's, but it was a miserable failure! We ordered the calamari (absolutely flavorless, unquestionably without one drop of seasoning, not even the pinchiest pinch of salt); the cup of custard (embarrassing lump of gelatin); the "open faced roast beef with French fried potatoes" (S.O.S. from my high school cafeteria) assembled of pre-made, canned beef gravy-stuff & fries from a bag from Costco; gag-worthy bread pudding; and a most mostly-undercooked half boneless chicken (with bones) that was stated as being "with potatoes & vegetable"... The potatoes were the same Costco bag French fries & they did open a can of green beans, so I guess that's considered a vegetable. Those things totaled $58.13 and we ate less than 10% that meal.
I do not recommend this for anyone expecting authentic, local food. It was garbage.
I wish I could rate a zero.
Horrible experience the management was very rude, we will never eat there again.
Did not get a great experience. Just has a reputation of being special. Menue could be gotten at any seafood restaurant.
Great ambience and fantastic selection of food. The onion rings and crawfish pies are awesome.
Thank you so much for this warm welcome to New Orleans! The gumbo is perfect in this weather. I really enjoyed the family atmosphere and I am appreciative of the attentive service from everyone. I will pass along the good word at my hostel and return for a proper meal.
I returned for a spice cake cheesecake. :) Thank you for your hospitality.
Crowded, over-priced yet a wonderful restaurant. Great staff and good food.
Best meatballs anywhere open for takeout no outdoor tables seating so 4 stars!
I was taken there when I was way younger with family that lived in the area. But 2 things are paramount in that BUSINESS in that area, to have your name remembered; Great tasting food and a comfortable local, safe atmosphere. They have it, at a value
Amazing staff, great food, handled our large group without a problem.
The seafood gumbo was amazing, the staff was friendly but service was a bit slow in the end. I waited 15 minutes to get my check, but to be fair, the place was packed.
We really enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere here. It's just far enough from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter so that you can breathe a bit. Everything was delicious and the portions were hearty.
After Katrina, I thought this gem was lost forever. We recently went back to Nawlins and I looked it up just in case. It's back and better then ever. The only restaurant I will order turtle soup and for good reason...it is sincerely the best. We had already eaten when we arrived but I didn't hesitate to order the soup and crab claws. The servers are all awesome. The portions, especially sandwiches, are enough to share hands down. The "must go to" place in the big easy.
Eggplant Parm was excellent. Service was great. Nice menu selection. I'll be back again!
Food was great service great would highly recommend
Enjoyed lunch...had the Monday special...red beans and rice
I had mine with a pork chop and my friend had sausage . It was mobbed. Like the old time atmosphere and food good
Very pleasant environment, tables and chairs are not packed too close together. The only negative is the conversational volume got loud and made it difficult to hear others at pur table.
A great menu selection- The food came surprisingly fast and it was fantastic when it came. 5 Stars :)
Italian spaghetti sauce is awesome. Offers several variety lunch specials daily. Great portion. With soup and appetizers, 2 people can split 1 entre. Consistent good food each time we went. Eggplant dish is outstanding. Cannot go wrong with any poboy choices. Italian salad can be split 4 ways.
My husband and I go there quite often always delicious and atmosphere is great
Full of life with great history. Food was really good.
Some of the best food in New Orleans. And the portions are huge. 2 Could easily split their entrees. I have been eating here over 50 years.
This place was recommended to us by a NOLA resident, so we were quite disappointed. Rather than bread after ordering there were just pre-packaged crackers. The food was quite overpriced for pretty bland food. I ordered pasta with Bordelaise sauce and just got plain spaghetti.
This was my 1st time at this restaurant and the dish (creole eggplant) was awesome. It was soooooo good
First time there I had the stuffed shrimp and mashed potatoes, but I left just stuffed.
No words! The food is delicious every single visit and the service is great!
Great food and service, but bring a jacket (kind of cold)
Brought the wife for her Birthday Lunch. As usual the service was great, the food was excellent. Will definitely be returning.
Was delicious. I had the fried shrimp and fries. Lots of shrimp.
WOW! This place is a hidden gem. Portion sizes are very large and the food is downright delicious. We can highly recommend the Crab Fingers appetizer, gumbo (the bowl is HUGE) and Red Beans and Rice on Monday night (that's when it's a special).
My wife got the grilled shrimp salad and it was certainly enough to share. Tomatoes, asparagus, eggs, purple cabbage: the works!
Additionally, the service is incredibly nice and helpful, especially our guy Torrey. I couldn't make up my mind exactly what I should order and he gave me some guidance on what may hit the spot. He was absolutely right.
This place is a short Uber ride from the French Quarter - a straight shot down Canal.
Nothing's changed even with the horrors of Katrina the food in the staff or top notch old New Orleans
My most favorite restaurant for my entire life. -Chef A
Always good but kinda pricey. Great for out of town guests or when your mom has just got to have that turtle soup.
Moderate price and delicious food. Got calamari and eggplant dish, both were excellent.
Excellent lunch of soft-shelled crabs with a bowl of gumbo that was top notch. Nice historic building with excellent service. Cool little place.
A large group of us had a beautiful dinner in the courtyard. Our server suggested a family style approach that allowed us to try a number of different things.
Crab finger appetizer was brilliant! Service was fast and friendly. Local restaurant!
Prepares some of New Orleans favorite dishes you don't have to go downtown for it!
Decent service. Safe parking
Love this place! Great food and great service, they have such a variety but everything is so good. Plus their desserts are to die for.
One of the best restaurants in New Orleans. Always go there when visiting N.O.
So sad to give this place less than five stars. Let me be clear it wasn't the food. If I was reviewing only the food it would surely earn five stars.
I've been coming here since I was a kid and have never received such poor service as I did yesterday evening. I asked a question about a dish prior to ordering and the server looked at me like I was crazy for even asking the question. Seriously? I just wanted to know if the BBQ shrimp had cheese grits or regular grits. I don't think that to be an unreasonable question.
After the meal, our server basically ignored us. A rather large table had come in and our server proceeded to take their drink order and serve it without getting us our check. I had to walk to the bar and ask him for our check. He proceeded to slam down the pen and curtly tell me to have a nice evening.
I have never received such rude treatment at this wonderful restaurant ever. New Orleans has too many great restaurants with servers who get it right. Don't waste your time coming here and receiving poor treatment. Go to Katie's down the street instead, I know I will be.
Great food reasonable attentive service staff great cocktails
Terrible shrimp salad. Iceburg and romaine lettuce were in huge pieces, not even torn. Hardboiled eggs green. Asparagus mushy.
Dirty floor, lousy attention to service, waited 10 minutes for a beer before I ordered food, never got it. I left. Never going back.
Great place to eat with great food. If visiting new orleans and want great food with authentic new orleans atmosphere Mandenia's is the place to go.
My out of town guests enjoyed the turtle soup, fried oysters and shrimp, pasta and shrimp and bread pudding. Large dining room with tables for 4. Large groups of families. Casual atmosphere. Good service. Noisy and up beat. A good example of local cuisine.
An OK experience.
I m surprised. The place was quickly packed. And is very highly rated! Almost perfect at what, 4.5 stars?
I ordered the catfish poboy. I do so because I believe if a LA cuisine place can t get a catfish poboy or it s red beans right, it s literally not worth it s salt. ...A CATFISH POBOY. You know the cheapest poboy option?, that, if any, should be FLOODED with extra meat. No. It was lovingly topped with half of a half of a half of a filet worth. Sad. Shredded iceberg. Terrible. No mayo. Ugh. Tomatoes were decent. Unsweet tea also decent.
Their sherry turtle soup was like a gelatinous slop. That was recklessly slammed into the soup bowl as it leaked over the edge onto the saucer. Not even trying for presentation there. The Flavor wasn t too bad. It Did not hold a candle to Mandeville s Nuvolari s Chef Tom Smith s mock-turtle soup. (And Chef Tom s was a mock version!)
Pretty pricey place. 6$ Milky Way cheesecake tastes like a Burger King dessert special. (Ordered from a frozen truck that drove in last week)
Our waiter loved his cigarettes more than us. (I know this because as I pulled out he was running across the street to light up another cigarette again... at least attempt discretion, people.) Truly a shame. If a restaurant should be able to help anything it s their wait staff. Horrible. Please train your workers better. He was the run-off type. Never shows up and when he does he s leaving your table as fast as he could.
I really hoped for more. Try it out. Maybe at least once. The bus boys did bring us extra napkins. That should count for something?
