This was a family weekend with kids and toddlers. We originally thought about spending the weekend at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Glad, we did not.

Muze restaurant experience was terrible. Slow service and food came out almost cold. Noodles soggy due to waiting too long before serving.

Long wait...food came almost cold. If this happens to you, complain little, and they will give free food, so hope that helps. The free food saved this review from being one-star.

Also, we tried their concierge service, almost no help and "busy" on the phone.

We do not recommend Mandarin Oriental or their Muze restaurant. Recommend highly that you run FAST away and look for another restaurant/hotel.

Check in was easy, room super clean, spacious and with a very comfortable bed.

However, I checked in at 3am after a red eye flight and had my DO NOT DISTURB on...got a phone call at 7am asking if I wanted the room cleaned!!! I was very upset.

Due to covid there's no refreshments, drinks, or snacks in the room...everything has to be ordered through room service which other people in my group warned me the food from room service was not good.

Another annoying thing was there was no vanity kit in my room, I took a shower and wanted a shower cap, q tips and cotton pads to remove my makeup and there was nothing, I needed to get to sleep and didn't have the time to wait for anything to be delivered. First time I've stayed at a 5* hotel that did not have a vanity kit! Luckily, they did have 2 small bottles of water in the cupboard.

Also, ALL shower gel, shampoo and conditioner have methylisothiazione in them which I'm highly allergic to; It is a well known dermatological sensitizer and allergen; some of its side effects include flaky or scaly skin, breakouts, redness or itchiness, and moderate to severe swelling in the eye area. The American Contact Dermatitis Society named Methylchloroisothiazolinone the Contact Allergen of the Year for 2013.

The Mandarin Oriental is located within a short walking distance to the Washington Mall, has beautiful and grand accommodations and a wonderful and energetic staff. The hotel boasts a large lap pool and modern gym and an ample lobby entertainment space.

An absolutely spectacular hotel. It's rare to find an expensive hotel that also seems to be worth the money, but there were a lot of small touches between both the staff and the little extras like a hot pot of tea at the front desk, or turn-down service leaving macaroons or cupcakes in your room for you. Also very nice to see bottles of water left in the room at no cost, as opposed to the typical $10 bottle of Fiji.

On the other hand, a little disappointed to see a mini-bar instead of a fridge. I thought we were largely done with those in hotels but perhaps not.

On the whole though, very happy with my stay. The staff is fantastic and the room was very comfortable.

Stayed there. The room was very clean and updated. Near a lot of good restaurants, but most of them close very early. Walking distance from the monuments., museums and river. The food was good. Can improve the gluten free menu to include desserts. Would stay again.

Classy and luxurious but definitely needs to be updated. The property feels like something from a 80s early 90s Harrison Ford political thriller movie. The staff is very nice and helpful. Their breakfast buff is worth the 30 bucks they charge, great spread and variety. Their lobby bar also could also do with some updating, selection of spirits is unimpressive (much rather have a drink at the Ritz Carlton's lobby bar or the Watergate's). If you can find a room for sub 300 bucks a night it's worth it, wouldn't pay more then that however (at least until they update / modernize the place).

Bit of an odd location but nice property with large, well-appointed rooms. Gym is spacious but badly in need of an upgrade, cheap cardio machines from the 90s. Amity & Commerce restaurant was very good and not your typical hotel ripoff pricing, quite reasonable with very good service.

This was a little staycation for us in the midst of the pandemic. Service was excellent as usual. You must be screened for temperature with each entrance of the hotel. Masks are required in all common areas. The room was nice, but the furnishings could stand to be updated. Due to the pandemic, all meals are served in the room. Thank you, COVID-19. Their breakfast was delicious. We had eggs, bacon pork & chicken sausage, toast, home fries, coffee, & juice. Dinners were good, especially the Mandarin burger. We also had the Afternoon High Tea, something my wife has been dying to do. There was a little misstep with the scheduling, so the hotel included Champagne to make up for it. Quality. The tea service was fabulously prepared and delicious. Highly recommended. We didn't partake in the pool, jacuzzi, or spa this trip due to COVID. But have in the past, it's so worth it. If you're going to stay in DC and budget for it, you cannot go wrong with the Mandarin Oriental. Also, we brought our Firestick and it worked perfectly with the TV. Just an extra taste of home.

Great hotel with nice breakfast, many kinds of fruit, not many options for hot food for breakfast tho. Simple gym and pool area. Locationwise, only Starbucks and CVS at the opposite side of hotel, 20-30 min walk to Lincoln memorial and those landmark.

Great rooms, nice staff and good gym. The overpriced breakfast was a turnoff, but the realization of overpaying for this breakfast and to be served the same powdered eggs from a Super 8 is enough for me to never come back. So I won't.

After tending my granddaughter's wedding we went to their ballroom for dinner and dancing. It was beautiful just gorgeous! I couldn't have planned a better wedding reception if I had done it myself!

The location is great and the hotel's atmosphere makes guests feel comfortable. The Empress Lounge offers great champagne, refreshing a day. I recommend the afternoon tea which you have to book a day before.

Extremely nice venue. Was there for a reception and dinner for my industry. Very good food and strong drinks. Only downside was the bar upstairs was kinda small for all the people we had coming up. But service was fast and excellent.

Excellent hotel! They have excellent staff. When I checked into my room, I didn't like the view. So, I asked to change room and their staff was very willing to accommodate. No ugly faces or negative body language at all. Another example, at that time, they just put in a new system with Chromecast but it didn't work for me. The IT staff for the hotel work after hours trying to get it working for me. It did work but I appreciate the extra work he put in. Lastly, I have sometime after checkout before my flight. So, I wanted to get a seat at their lounge, but the staff would allow me to sit at the main lounge for a legitimate reason that I forgot now. I eventually found a seat on the side. The staff felt bad that she complimented the pot of tea that I ordered. I appreciate that. The only thing I would complain about the hotel is the view. Their city view is pretty crappy.

Parked next door and stopped at the Mandarin for breakfast prior to visiting the Jefferson Memorial nearby. There was a choice to order off the menu or serve yourself from the buffet. Friendly service and good food. We were seated next to a window with a view of the tidal basin with boats moored, the Jefferson Memorial in the distance and several Cherry Blossom trees in bloom. Great experience.

We were at the bar area. We got service pretty fast and they checked on us regularly. Food was good. Also had very good free chips and nuts to eat while waiting for the food. One of our nicer hotel bar experiences.

Quiet luxury. The lobby is open and airy. Lots of gleaming wood and unobtrusive employees. You feel the difference from other chain hotels. The workers are polished and professional, but warm and welcoming. The rooms are nicely appointed.

My expectations of this hotel were good going into it then they were surpassed when I got there to check in. The young lady that was working the evening shift on labor day weekend with Ms.Luv was very cordial with us making great conversation. While checking in I was upgraded to a room even better than the one I booked it made our weekend one to remember. I would rate my experience 10 stars but that's not a choice on here. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I will be back.

Fantastic hotel-beautiful rooms and the staff could not be more accommodating. They really went above and beyond to take care of our family starting from the minute we checked in. Just fabulous and we cannot WAIT to come back!!!!!!!!!!

the hotel staff was very friendly and more than willing to accommodate each of our requests. Our room was very nice. The bed is very comfortable and the night time turn down service was just what we needed after a long day touring DC. Definitely would stay again. Only complaint would be having to pay per day to park our vehicle.

Even if the theme and name seems weird and culturally out of touch (ever heard of a hotel called the "English Occidental"?).. Well wow its efficient, tidy, thoughtful, sparing. Strongly recommend it.

This review is for the Empress Lounge in Mandarin ...

This review is for the Empress Lounge in Mandarin Oriental.

Pinkies up! In my book, tea is always a good idea. And when it's afternoon tea at the Empress Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental, how could it not be? I made reservations on OpenTable for my friend and I about a week prior to our scheduled date. There were plenty of open reservations available then, no problem getting a reservation. I even had to change the reservation and make it a little earlier, and it wasn't a problem.

The Empress Lounge is located in the lobby of the Mandarin Oriental. You basically enter the hotel and go straight and there's a lounge/bar area for tea and cocktails. All the tables that have been reserved have little Reserved cards on them. When you think of Mandarin Oriental afternoon tea, you're probably thinking - stuffy, super dressy, snooty. But that is not the case at all. You don't need a ballgown to have tea here. And the service and environment are far from stodgy; everyone is super friendly and accommodating, making this afternoon tea experience a true gem.

I selected the flowering osmanthus, a green tea, and my friend selected the lychee red, a black tea. Teas come in the cutest mini teapots and there's a separate glass teapot warmer and glass teapot with hot water, so you can replenish hot water into your mini teapot at your convenience. This is brilliant! At home, I'm always struggling with having a full pot of tea and having it to drink it fairly quickly so the water doesn't turn cold. I love these mini teapots, and now I'm going to hunt for some to purchase!

You could always get supplements:
Tier replenishment - $5
Champagne pairing - $10
Cocktail pairing - $5

A total of $41 before tip. Honestly for afternoon tea at the Mandarin Oriental, the price is very reasonable. I had afternoon tea at the Grille at Morrison House in Old Town Alexandria and it was $45, although granted they offer all-you-can-eat but the quality of the teas, sandwiches, and sweets are definitely not on par with Empress Lounge. Fantastic service, of course. I would definitely come back and recommend this tea lounge.

Dreamy. Romantic. Indulgent. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect celebratory getaway.

I love splurging for luxury travels and when it comes to hotels, I stay with the best. Mandarin Oriental is one of Asia's premium luxury hotel brands and I try to stay in one whenever possible, but most especially for birthdays and anniversary, which was exactly the reason for our celebratory getaway.

From the moment we walked in the lobby last Friday evening, Justin at the Front Desk was warm and welcoming. He checked us in and told us that we were given the best possible room and we were upgraded to the Club Floor, with Club Lounge access as well. Such an incredible start to our stay.

We got into our room and there was a welcome note/card wishing me a Happy Birthday and a Happy Anniversary for us. That and chocolate covered strawberries. Which went perfect with the champagne. Loved everything about our room, from the design, to the master light settings, to the incredible and heavenly King bed, and the very spacious bathroom. The bathroom amenity kit was by Atelier, an excellent French brand. Of course, I also loved the bathrobes, so soft and cozy.

We enjoyed our Club Lounge access where we could just drop in to get drinks or small bites during the Happy Hour. We also ended up befriending Addham, the Club Lounge bartender who was so sweet and friendly, we actually dropped by during our last night just to give him a hug and say bye. During mornings, we preferred having our breakfast at Amity & Commerce and the staff was always so attentive and very customer oriented. Every morning they would remember us and say, "Welcome back!" Always ready to bring me a fresh pot of coffee and pour fresh orange juice for me and my husband. Service at its finest. We opted for the food which were part of the buffet since it was quick and ready. We loved that we could have our eggs made and enjoyed the bacon which were perfectly cooked. I also tried to Apricot Danish & Chocolate Croissant and both were sinfully delicious.

As for the amenities, we loved the Spa and Fitness Center, and the beautiful indoor pool. My only wish was that we had more time to enjoy the amenities and reserved a spa treatment ahead of time. We vowed to prioritize that next time.

Location wise, I actually preferred its location. It felt tranquil and relaxing and a decent walk to like the Jefferson Memorial etc. Loved how it was the right balance of seeing the sights of DC and going back to enjoy our room, the club lounge, and the incredible amenities.

The Concierge Team was also fantastic. I did send an inquiry about restaurant recommendations ahead of time and literally upon getting to our room, Tracy from the Concierge Team sent me an excellent list of recommended restaurants and activities. Phillip also was able to get us a great table at Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab on Sunday evening for our special dinner. Boy that was one of our best meals this lifetime and that deserves its own review shortly. Thanks again, Phillip!

Definitely one of our most favorite getaways. Thank you Mandarin Oriental DC Team for treating us like VIPs, and for being our home away from home. We honestly cannot wait to make another trip soon.

You set the bar pretty high and for that, #imafan.

Wonderful hotel just a few blocks from the National Mall. You can walk to the mall, or do like we did and rent electric scooters to cover more ground (also recommended on a swealtering hot July afternoon) The suite was excellent and room service suprisingly quick. Showers were roomy and even the bathtub fills quickly. King size bed was very comfortable and the rooms were very spacious. We had a mixup in our reservation which caused some friction with Management, but was ultimately remedied fairly.
