Nice little airport. Immigration gates is a bit unorganized but the processing speed is fine. Arrival and collecting luggage area is small, also toilet is very small. It needs to improve quickly. If you visit Budapest as a tourist, Budapest card is the best option. You can choose from card valid from 24h up to 120h. It covers all public transportation buses, trains, metro, trams. Great value. Also you will have free or discounted entries to many museums, city tours, public attractions etc. Also you will have free first entry to Lukas thermal bath. It's amazing and must try. You can buy Budapest card online or simply just buy it at the airport. After getting out of the baggage collecting area the Budapest card sale counter is on your left. There is a main counter which is quite slow but if you go to the train ticket counter at the back (just few steps away) you will be served much faster. You will get a booklet with all good information about the card. You can start using public transport to go to Budapest for free. Take a left as you get out of the terminal, the bus 200E will take you to line 3 metro. This metro will take you right in to Budapest centre. It's very convenient. There are so many great value restaurant with exceptional good in Budapest to discover. Remember to stay away from center touristy restaurants. Amazing city.

Airport not abnormal in size, but very functional and well modernized. There is also free Wi-Fi. There are also excellent connections to the center of Budapest, with the 200E you get direct to the M3 subway and with that you have all the interchanges! The vehicles are not new but they work very well, frequent and punctual, both trams and metro. I made the weekly pass at 4950 huf;)

I am absolutely surprised how much they don't care...

I am absolutely surprised how much they don't care about this airport. You can clearly see everything that has been built is very poor quality, very boring design (basically concrete and white walls, nothing else), very poor facilities (e.g.: no e-gates for immigration control at all, not even in the new block that has just been opened), dirty toilets and very rude staff. All in all, this airport is light years behind other similar airports, but I think it is getting more and more behind as it is clear that people are literally don't care they just do what they have to but no more, so do not expect too much from this airport, just get on the airplane and fly away.

Airport service leaves a lot to be desired. My hand luggage fits easily into the indicated compartment of the metal basket. Despite this, you stubbornly repeated that it was too big - it was obvious that I would pay extra. Eventually I was allowed on board the plane without additional payment, but ... without checking my ticket and document ..
I do not know how to allow this situation.
The small airport is easy to find. This is unfortunately the only plus.

I don't even know where to start. I've been flying from here for 10 years. I have witnessed a steady decline in standards over the past 4 years. Especially when it comes to managing low cost airlines. In the past, even the 70-person focal plane, which was relatively far from the terminal, was provided with a bus. I do not understand why low-cost airlines offer worse conditions to passengers. A separate "tin terminal" has been set up for approx. With 4 outsourced benches - let the crowd stand - which can only be approached on foot, from the outside (!) And is not close to the boarding gate (if I can call it that). That's something I find outrageous. I only came across such a solution in Rome, but there I didn't have to be covered in the open air at 40 degrees, in snow, frost, rain, wind, (like in Pest) but built as a supplement to the airport, I didn't have to go outside in the open . Nowhere else have I come across a solution that passengers should have taken on a smaller type of hike to the plane and back in the open air. It was already stolen from my suitcase, I had already exceeded it, thankfully not much value (I don't even put one in it), but it was still terribly uncomfortable. The behavior of the staff is very hectic. Some are normal, but more woody. Budapest Airport shakes responsibility in EVERYTHING, I experienced in making a complaint. Not only are they not treated, but they are even covertly lying. They can't handle the crowd, our resulting inconvenience (we missed the machine) was compounded by the phlegmatic, manipulative, jerk behavior of their employee. The information is 0! Of course, they refused to complain about everything. In my eyes, the airport slides down year by year, I'm sorry about that because I'm Hungarian and it's bad to see that things have slipped so far. I don't even know what an impression this makes on foreigners ... one thing is for sure: not good!

Waiting more than 1 hour to receive our checked in luggage, we received 1 out of 2 after one hour and then we waited another 15 minutes for the second one, apparently there was just one guy unloading and loading them

Horrible place, can't cope with the passenger numbers due to the rapid expansion of people visiting. Huge queues at security even off peak as its understaffed and the staff and REALLY inefficient, huge queues at check in, long queues at passport control. Staff are extremely miserable, no urgency in any process, no attempts to make anything more efficient or the systems in place any better. Arriving here is just as bad, often takes 40 minutes plus to wait for luggage to arrive on the belt (there have been recent issues of staff stealing from luggage), then always a long time to go through passport control as its so badly laid out. I travel through at least twice per month and its horrible. Generic overpriced shops (even for an airport), no real hat tip to Hungarian culture unless its trying to capture the essence of its communist past.

I do not recommend ... We slept on a hard floor because of the lack of chairs / rest areas. Wild queues for check-in and security. It waits a long time in queues that do not know where they end. Then, before the flight, the long one will stand in the metal hangar waiting for the entrance to the airfield. Ugly bathrooms.

A real mess. We arrived well in advance but we shouldn't have. The small size of the airport makes it impossible to travel. The crowding of people in a confined space is truly uncomfortable. Not counting the reluctance of the information employees. Chaos.

Everything there is very chaotic. We were waiting in line just to wait in another line. We were stuck in a airport bus with a huge crowd during summer for over 20 min. Toilets were dirty, flies everywhere, no soap. And have you seen gates A12-19? It is just old barack outside the main building.

Never had any problems here. Clean toilets, free drinking water available, clear signs to direct you to your gate. Recently they also constructed a new building to better serve budget airlines. The only negative thing I experienced is that they are usually very strict on carry-on baggage regulations (especially wizzair since Budapest is their hub) so make sure to follow the instructions of your airline or be prepared to pay.

terrible airport-do not fly out of here! It is far too small for the number of tourists and just cannot cope. The queues to check baggage in were long and extremely slow, and to make matters worse the baggage conveyor kept clogging up with cases getting jammed so the staff had to leave check in desks and free it up. Must have taken about an hour or more to check in the baggage then queued to get through security and then queued again for passport control. By that time it was time to board the plane-totally stressed and exhausted by the whole process not a great way to end a holiday

Incompetent luggage handling: 50 minutes and still waiting for our luggage, which at other airports takes 10 minutes, no matter how far away the plane is grounded. And here it s about 300 meters away, but they are not even able to get the luggage out and to the conveyer belts in a reasonable amount of time

Useless at making lines
No respect for passengers

Just landed with my wife and we went to the EU line for passport control as I have an EU passport and my wife has an EU residence card however we were rudely told to go to the all passports line. We have been to many EU countries and always gone to the EU line.

The staff member was extremely rude saying "I don't care, you need to leave this line" with an expression on his face that showed he was pissed off.

Unfortunately when you come to Budapest you have to go through this airport. If I could fly to a different airport, I really would!

I have got only bad experience with that airport. Extremely rude and arrogant staff! The lady at the information desk was literally laughing at us , when we miss our flight because the long check in process however we was on time at the airport. I was also talk bad with the lady because I found it so rude what she did.
Security check line I can compere with the Chinese Wall, there are no words how crowdy that airport is.
Between the gates are kilometers, you should run a lot! Staff not helpful when you asking information about your gate! Find yourself they think!
Free wifi is ridiculously slow!
Only positive place here the shops and the cafe's.
Its stressful and long journey to be here before even begin your flight!
Luckyli we have another solution to fly to Romania where airport staff much friendlier, doesn't make people feel they are worthless animals.
Even one single star is a lot for that airport!
Never again!

Good airport and good service. They have everything, restaurants, bars, shops ... Organized and with good service. The only downside is that there are boarding gates that you have to go through the street, that is, you leave the building and you have to wait outdoors, I guess because it is under construction or fixing it but it is not comfortable to walk around that is a good piece there is sun , rain or let's be below zero. Removing this, everything else is correct and good service.

Nice, small airport. Check-in was quick as well as the security check. I can understand some complaints, but they are related the budget airlines. Lines for check-in for those were much longer, but still not terribly long. You will find all the usual shops which are all absolutely modern and clean. My experience is positive. I would understand if people would complain about the bus to the airport as it is a 35 - 40 minutes trip from the center and if you are unlucky and don't get a seat the ride isn't very pleasant.

Really? Summer time peak time, 2 officer checking passport in the capitals only one airport? Extremely slow.... they should hire experts how to manage an airport on a respectable quality level.
Lost one of our baggage. With 2 weeks worth of children clothing for 2. Nice. Let's start our holiday with shopping and spend our pocket money for clothes instead of ice cream.....

The washbasins were terrible, and I was out of control. There is no toilet paper or hand wash soap in the dispensers. The housekeeper just came in to the bathroom and signed a wall-hung cleaning sheet, but did not make the room clean, did not wc paper, nothing.
The foreground is too small. There is a very long line at the check-in counters, only one employee has dealt with 4 airline's economy luggage dispatches. I was standing in line for 35 minutes, because in the meantime 2 more colleagues arrived, so they got faster, but they love to chat with each other.
Security checks took place very quickly.

Budapest Airport + Wizzair is probably the worst travel combination. We were at the gate 20 minutes before our flight time and the people from the airport told us we missed our flight seeming almost happy about it with their smug faces. When we asked what we should do they said they dont know.

But I faced an issue transit visa for London via British airways boarding point they are not good customer service representative. I feel very bad at that time. Even I have European residence permit for Euro traveller option. That's only I feel bad for British airways in this Airport.

The only vending machine in the arrival area is selling water.. This is like a time travel back into the uddsr.. I will never transit on this airport nor will I visit this damn country

Fairly efficient security, but they took away a personal safety device that has traveled with me through multiple European airports. It s always put in a clear bag and staff at some airports even checked it for a second, but always let me carry it without any problem. So it s not like it slipped under the radar before this time. A bit hard to convince me that this airport is so special

The strangest airport in which we were, or rather the work of the staff. Departure was at 6.35. arrived two hours before departure, in the hope of quietly still like shopping to buy souvenirs. This was a new one for me. After traveling to 35 countries, I have not seen a more messed up airport like this one. Omg where do I begin? Minimum chat check-in get out of my face style. Super slow security check where everyone has to take off their shoes was a big wow. I heard you can pay 5 to get express security check so you don't miss your flight, epic way to make money. Cleanliness of the place was below standard. All restaurants and shops were closed 25 mins before closing time which was 9pm (unreal) so I got denied coffee everywhere. After a long uncomfortable wait for our plane we got escorted to a place outside of the airport which literally made me feel like - oh, now I know how people in Auschwitz felt. It was like a cattle hangar. I couldnt believe it! Have in mind that you might have to wait here for an hour and there are no bathrooms here so get it done before this. Airport staff was generally rude, they really didn't feel like being there. I really hope I don't have to visit this airport again. Here's a pic so you can see the best airport feature - The Hangar!
