Makimoto Review

Have been trying out sushi places in the area since we moved, and this is by far my favorite. Great quality, inventive rolls, and reasonable prices!

I was hired by DoorDash to photograph this fine restaurant's dishes.
As you can see, the pictures cannot do justice for the taste. Very fresh! The atmosphere is inviting and the manager staff care about you and the dishes they prepare. I am a sushi connoisseur and had the opportunity to have a taste of their sashimi and sushi rolls. Incredibly delicious! I highly recommend stopping in and seeing/tasting for yourself. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Great spot to stop in and grab some sushi, tons of options including large amount on non-sushi options. Soy/rice paper is available as a Nori substitute upon request with a small up charge.

They really know how to put together a sushi boat. Wonderful food great presentation even with it being to go.

If you want to have sushi for the first time, you should start from this place. You are going to fall in love with sushi!

My favorite sushi place in Michigan. The staff is friendly and the sushi chefs are happy to customize your order.

This company over charges your credit card they re receipt will say the price they say to you but when your card is charged it adds extra gratuity of 18% and then tell you it s the card company I get instant alerts as soon as the money comes off my bill was $71.60 but the charged my card $85.90 I called the card company who told what the charge was for right in front on the people and they still denied it they stole an extra $14.30 I give cash tips so I never tip on my card so basically my money is gone and these people get over on people all day it adds up they re robbing us stop spending your money here where they steal from us

Got bimbibap, it definitely lacked some flavor. The food was really bland. For a 12+ dish it needed more vegetables and a lot less rice.

Ordered from here through Door Dash. Took over 1 hour for the food to arrive due to the restaurant being backed up. When the food arrived it was not good. Presentation was poor, they didn t include sides we requested and it didn t taste good. Usually when you re starving even cardboard is appealing but the food was a major miss.

I strongly recommend that if you sign up to be a part of Door Dash; make sure you have the capacity and staff to do so. Some of us didn t even have time to eat the meals because the food took so long and they had to go to meetings.

Nope. Never again.

Really good place for rolls, sushi, etc. They also have more "western-friendly" options. The only current drawback is the ongoing construction in the parking lot as of July 2018.

Quite surprised by this little place!

Clean restaurant, quick service, carried Asahi beer (required with sushi), and the food was outstanding.

I had the pan fried wontons, tuna tartare (which came with some little chips to scoop it up with), and the spider roll. All three were top-notch.

This restaurant is classic, elegant, and overall amazing. The food was perfect and our waiter was VERY prompt, precise, and personable. You'll definitely get your money's worth here!

Used to live near Makimoto and we miss this place. Second best sushi restaurant my husband and I have ever been to. They have the same few sushi chefs always their, all who are very consistent. Excellent sushi, comparable pricing and always very clean. My favorite roll is their mango crunch(?) Roll that has jalapeno yellow tail and mango...a great mix of flavors! We no longer live near Makimoto and miss this place very much

Good, fresh, and well presented sushi with great service. Our server was super helpful in ordering (especially helpful for a novice like me).

Makimoto is a great place to eat sushi, the food was very delicious and fresh. The service was very friendly, attentive, and refreshing.

Best sushi place in Auburn Hills. Reasonable prices and very fresh food.

Nice and comfy restaurant. It was quite empty for dinner. We had some sushi and soup and the usual kids meal. The sushi was very light and fresh. I will be back for more sushi. The service was nice and quick too.

I ordered Chicken Yaki Udon at lunch time. The dish came out from the kitchen 15 minutes after. It was NOT "Yaki" udon but dipped in very strong and salty miso based source though "Yaki" udon should be stair fried in lightly salt or soy source. I could not eat and left 80% of my lunch the first time in my life. The lady came to me and asked what's wrong. I explained that this was totally not something I was hoping to taste. The lady's excuse was that it is more Americanized (I strongly doubt). Then she offered me if I like teriyaki chicken (that's only nice part) but I did not want another 15 minutes so did not accept.

Best sushi and service in town. A real family favorite of ours!

Never picks up the call for take out order. I have tried calling them for 4 consecutive days.

Absolutely amazing food, always fresh. The service is awesome, and the environment is clean and really appealing. I recommend the spider rolls!

I come here about once every couple months or so, and I have yet to be disappointed. I'll usually get a miso soup, ginger (house) salad, spicy salmon roll, and california roll. From time to time, I'll mix up the rolls and try something new. In each case, I feel that the sushi quality for $5-8 rolls is better here than most places. The service has also been top notch. I've also ordered to-go before, and I was impressed with the careful packaging of each item. I highly recommend this place - dining in or out - to local sushi lovers.

Excellent spicy tuna and spicy California roll. Delicious green tea. Great service. No wait! Sushi comes with miso soup.

Great little sushi bar, excellent chefs and nice atmosphere. If you want to try something different I highly recommend this place.

Forgot to bring one of the three dishes ordered, did not have soy sauce or silverware on the table, could not get a lid for my to-go cup (was told they normally don't allow it at all). Pretty decent sushi but overall not very impressed.

Yesterday was our first time we came to that magnificent restaurant. But It is obviously not the last. We enjoyed the evening very much with the courteous service, with the exceptional food and fine drinks and with the honest payment. We will absolutely come back in a short time.

Makimoto has my favorite sushi roll, the mango crunch roll. Great sushi chef's ALWAYS consistent, always clean

The sushi here is very good. The ingredients are fresh, and the combinations are delightful. I've never had a bad roll in any of my trips, and make an effort to come here even though there are closer options.

A great place to come with friends for any meal of the day. Staff give you the attention and the sushi is great at very good prices.

Nice place with a great sushi selection but very confusing menu and ordering takes forever especially during lunch times. I tried the udon noodles which didn't have enough sauce to it and the chicken felt under cooked.

BEST sushi around. The menu is better than most. The quality is great, you'll definitely get what you pay for every time. The staff is affable and timely. Most importantly, their business hours are ideal.

I like their sushi and rice bowl, over several years I was never disappointed.

Drove 40 mins and they were not open. Google, their website and the sign in the front said they were open. Annoyed! I guess you have to call ahead to make sure they decided to show up for work that day.

This is my absolute favorite sushi place ever! My friends and I absolutely love going here and are sooo happy that they have reopened!! The staff is always very nice and the food is absolutely delicious. The salmon teriyaki rolls are a personal favorite, but I also love their veggie spring rolls, cucumber salad, miso soup, and lots more :)

Sushi is great but I'm super upset that they no longer serve Sake/alcohol until dinner time...

Delicious sushi at a decent price. The atmosphere was surprisingly upscale considering the surroundings. The sushi chefs were friendly.

The food was delicious!! I tried Sushi to start and it was very good!! I also had the teriyaki chicken which was great too. I would definitely eat there again!

The people here are really nice and i love chilling here after a good day of work or if i need to to work they have wifi and a wide selection i love it

Lunch - October 18 2016

Met a colleague for lunch today at Makimoto. It came highly recommended.

The service was great. No issue here.

We ordered the Kogi Tempura...looked great, but the was a definite lack of flavor.
Eel avocado roll...pretty good flavor here, but nothing spectacular. And the East Roll...again...nothing special.

Sadly, the miso soup was the big disappointment. COMPLETELY bland.

There are better places in town, but this will do if you're in a hurry or just in the area.

The sushi here was absolutely delicious and everyone in the group I was with was extremely happy with their food. Highly recommended. However, 4 stars because it was a bit pricey compared to similar places I frequent and the restaurant itself is a bit cramped. In spite of those comments, I would really recommend the food here.

This is the best Sushi in the north. Service was excellent, food was fast, high quality and done to perfection. I wish I lived near this location.

Have been their twice now. Everyone is friendly and the 8 different rolls we have tried have all been great!

Nice staff, started a conversation with me about the difference between korean and japanese sushi while i waited for my take out order. LOVE the kalbi roll! prices are reasonable, atmosphere is nice, love this place equally as much as take sushi but i go to take more because it's closer.

I am not a big "sushi" guy however the group I was with is. They raved about the sushi. I raved about the bibimbap! Hard to see location but a good, good place. Service is so-so - its a slower place. But it is a eat and relax vibe.

The sushivwas delicious. Even the specialty rolls (tempura, etc.) were fairly inexpensive and tasty. The place got a lot of light and had a nice chill atmosphere. Sushi chefs and wait staff were all super friendly.

Not terrible but not great. I might be a snob for Japanese food but I couldn't belive they didn't have japanese white rice.

A great selection of rolls, you can pretty much get whatever you like. They don't skimp on the fish, I order sashimi style and get a nice thick piece. The quality is decent, not the worst but not the best. In the end a very good place for sushi.
