Nice place to sit there and see pedestrain walking around
Love the festivals. Weekend all day parking now at $16. Not the cheapest around but very convenient
Although this Building is polarising in design, I love it! Works great as a Urban Hub and meeting spot. Many great events run through here too.
An 'interesting' precinct opposite the iconic Flinders Street Station with a variety of restaurants on its perimeter. Some good, some not so good & overpriced.
One of Melbourne's best landmarks and hang out spaces
I visited the location in December and being from the Northern Hemisphere the Christmas celebration at Federation Sqaure was truly a unique experience.

Great square always full of people, giving it a fantastic vibe. From here you can easily access surrounding museums, galleries and restaurants.
Always something to do here.
check out the free exhibitions around Fed Square, there's a big TV screen there that often shows some cool movies and there are deck chairs provided. If there's a special event on like watching a sports game get there early. There're also some magicians which you can enjoy but that occurs on wekkends and occasionally can be any time.
A chaotic mix of architecture....enough to have to sit and absorb the ambience with a pint of craft beer an $12 cocktails!!
I would say it's over rated, to be it's just an own space for cultural activities in the middle of city. But still good for meeting people and passing few hours
Great actually but there was a project when I'm there.
Absolutely fascinating to watch the match from anywhere here. Just make yourself comfortable anywhere. Lie on the makeshift lawn, sit down on the stones, connect your phone's to anyone anywhere, have food and watch the life like screens More
This has to be one of my favourite public squares in the world. There's always something happening here. If you're in Melbourne and have nothing to do on a nice day you can always go to Federation Square and find something to amuse yourself or, if nothing else, a place to sit and enjoy the bustle of the people.
A good open area near the river where lots of outdoor entertainment takes place. Be sure to visit at Chinese New Years and White Night!
I was enjoying my experience in this square when I made the mistake of looking up at the giant screen they have over the stage. I was presented with an image of the most horribly disfigured person I have ever seen, feeling sick I resolved to go and complain to someone about appropriate images to display in a public place until I noticed a nearby camera and realised that the screen was just a live feed of the square and I was looking at myself
Lots of diners and galleries. And there is a very big park nearby
good place to chill with friends or family, should make appoitment at weekend as its very busy.
It is a nice place to chill and relax. It was a shame that there was no events on the day we went.
Lovely setting with pretty people 24/7 and the beautiful yarra river. Old station, shops.
Federation Square is a must see whilst in Melbourne's CBD. Centrally located it has various exhibitions and galleries including a focus on Australian Art and Colonialism. There are free guided tours that tell you about the Federation of Australia. A variety of restaurants as well more casual food places.
I love this place. Just to sit around and enjoy the day
Big, modern, unique. Must see. Also close to other Melbourne highlights - Flinders station and St Paul's Cathedral.
I love taking my kids into Federation Square. it is easy to get to by public transport and there is always something going on. The Footy activities were great in the lead up to the grand final and we loved the Helix tree. Great food and atmosphere. ACME is a family favourite.
Awesome place. There're performances and events sometimes.
This is a 'must see' place, especially for the first time visitors of Melbourne. An ideal spot to meet friends and also to dine, relax and spend quality time roaming around. There is a good scope to shop for souvenirs, eat a wide variety of delicious food and to visit many historical land marks in and around the place, show-casing the pulse and vibrancy of Australia's ever increasing multiple attractions and amazing culture. A visit to the nearby church may be a fulfilling spiritual/peaceful experience.
Was a really nice place but then all the security guards made a circle around me and started throwing donuts at me and calling me Mr fatty fat boomba
Amazing place located opposite to Flinders Street Railway Station. Big screen live matches telecasted for public. Also cultural events take place over here. One of the always most happening places.
I really wanted to spend time in Federations Square, especially to see the statue "Defiant Girl", a replica of the famous New York one. Unfortunately it was a hot day and the square faces west - getting the full heat of the day, even in the late afternoon. We eventually found a place to sit and cool down.
Restaurants are really expensive and the square lacks a community feel.
They built this place before the world was ready. People used to be aghast with the architectural imposition. Now it's loved and accepted. Like all the greats, you've got to break some rules. It's a great place to sit, rest, meet up with friends. All sorts of events are held here. It's a real piazza, albeit modern, it brings people to people.
A must see in Melbourne.
Plenty of food & drink choices around the square. Occasionally hosts live events along with sports on the huge screen they ve got.
Love it! Forget the restaurants. The space really works.
We had a Diwali celebration here today with a lot of indian bands performing on stage the entire day. It was a magical performance evening.
Good place to hang out, nice and wide and open, water fountains and toilets are convenient as well.
This is one of my favourite public spaces in the city with always something different happening. This is a great places to take the family with amenities on site and close to public transport both tram and train. Easy access to Flinders Street station and home to the ACMI theatre. Recommended for locals and visitors.
Arrived in Melbourne on Monday evening, after relocating from WA. Wednesday was our first proper day out in the CBD and, while we were in ACMI, my eldest daughter discovered she'd lost her Myki. So we headed into Melbourne Visitor Centre on Federation Square and bought another.
On our way out, my youngest daughter's lunch reappeared- twice! First on the floor of the Visitor Centre and then in a bucket provided by one of the staff members (whose name has, unfortunately escaped me).
I cannot thank the staff of Melbourne Visitor Centre enough - they made no fuss about my daughter's illness, offered us us of their tearoom and looked after us wonderfully while my youngest daughter was incapacitated.
Thank you guys, really appreciated your help on Wednesday
Over crowded with wannabes. Otherwise nice architecture
Ahhhhh... This is where you can see the beauty of Melbourne... good place to hangout with your GF and friends.. sometimes you can see free show from the local people. People are always enjoying here.
Terrific activities and atmosphere, juxtaposed by horrendous architecture.
Make it easy to find what you are looking for and choose new places to visit
If you are stopping in melbourne for a couple of days i would recommend having a look here
A must-visit for tourists if only to tick it off the to-do list.
You can love it or hate it - but it is a great cultural site for melbourne - lots of events and great meeting point, enjoy the melbourne buzz or eat drink and be merry at the many food outlets - if you want something more cultured vist ACMI
Here meets modern and old. Looks totally great :) the construction of the building absolutely awesome
Great cafes - food - building design. Must see for travellers
An icon with many activities here. Don't forget to visit the tourist centre underground if you are visiting.
If you are visiting the city, start here! Loved the architecture, the space, the people and the atmosphere. Every city needs a place like this.
Favorite place to get some beautiful pictures and watch normal life. In front of the Federation Square, there is a information center where we can get information for the trip while we can watch movies and listen to live music in here.
I stopped by the rain
Melbourne Cup Tennis Open Square
A large screen is installed
The grandstand was also set
Unfortunately, no one was there.
I don't like tennis
Enough to sit on a rainy chair
It was good.
If you get the time right
You can meet the same emotions as me
Absolutely beautiful. Excellent service. Highly recommend.
Amazing Place, definitely a must see for Melbourne. I take all my overseas visitors here. Futuristic designed building ahead of its time. Most people don't like it at first, but when they walk around, see the atmosphere and vibe, they fall in love.
This is one of the lost over rated places in Melbourne! The one great place here is beer deluxe other than that I wouldn t bother coming here. I am a local resident who has lived in the city most my life. It s a giant tourist trap
I was never the biggest fan of the general vibe of Fed Square until I had some insight in to the design. I was told that the people who created fed square were big fans of Quake (the FPS computer game from the 90s) and then everything clicked. Whether it is true or not doesn't really matter because every time I walk through it I am filled with quad damage nostalgia.
Symbolic of Melbourne, it isn't about what the place means to other people, it is about what it means to you.
A good meeting point. Has nice view of flinders st station
Best place to sit and watch some street shows if it s weekend
I have never really spent time at Federation Square honestly since it was built, but that changed. Through an opportunity that came my way I have spent a considerable amount of time mostly at night. I have come to like it,at night mainly because of the colours that the buildings change to when the big screen is on. And at night especially over the weekend it can be very busy. Being that they are building the new train tunnel and what I think will be an entrance to the tunnel, unfortunately the view of St Patrick's cathedral is blocked temporarily but that can be for a long period of time. During the day the place will be full of people watching the big screen TV showing the Australian open and it's a fantastic atmosphere that's if the weather permitting. Unfortunately for this year's Australian open its raining but will not last and the hit weather will be back. At night now that's a different place all together. The unfortunate for that place is that the best places in that square are the one's that unfortunately are occupied by the SBS TV station. It's hard to believe that they would give the best view of the area to something that will not be utilised to showcase this beautiful City and the view of the Yarra River. So while that area is blocked and there is no life what's so ever there is only one bar down at road level which doesn't do justice to that space. Not because there is anything wrong with the bar but because the square at night attracts more than its fair share of people unfortunately some off them are there and behave like morons. That should not stop people who would like to enjoy Fed square at night should not be disheartened from going there. There is security and police to keep people safe. The one thing that stops fed square from being what it can and should be a place for the people who live or are here to visit is to have a meal ,a drink is to allow the whole place to be the entertainment area which is incorporating street performances music outdoors cinema and definitely absolutely no Apple HQ or Google or any big company. Unfortunately I don't think the people in charge have the courage or the imagination to go and start something like that. But nothing is impossible
Great place to visit. There's usually something free to look at, so make the most of the free exhibitions or displays. There are cafes/restaurants for those who want to eat.
If you are in Melbourne, you cannot miss Federation Square. There are all sorts of events happening everyday and the great thing is, most of them are for free.
There are plenty of pubs, restaurants and food courts around and yaara river is flowing just beside it.
Since I met that place I can't get it out of my head, it's magic! total relax! by God how I wish to return there!
Impressive view despite the traffic and crow along the road. They are what describes Melbourne rather than regular interferences.
