A lovely place to visit for 30 seconds, taking in the unique architecture of the building surrounds, but then go on with your life. There's literally nothing to do here at all - sure, if someone was performing on the stage it would be good, but outside of that it;s just a big empty park with a museum that's closed for renovation (and sounds quite boring) and a cafe that's only open for about 2 hours every other day. Walk in, walk out, and do nothing more.

One of the icons in Melbourne nowadays I reckon. Just opposite the flinders Street station. The location is perfect for any day meeting point. Close to anywhere and you can get trams to just on the main intersection.

Melbourne Writers Festival at Deakin Edge. Wonderful to hear Tracy Chevalier and Hannah Kent discuss their work. The only faults were that the wooden seats were very hard, and although the glass permits wonderful views, it was also makes this venue very hot. I wouldn't want to be present at a function during summer

Federation Square is a venue for arts, culture and public events on the edge of the CBD of Melbourne. It built above busy railway lines and across the road from Flinders Street station. It incorporates major cultural institutions such as the Ian Potter Centre and ACMI and Koorie Heritage Trust as well as cafes and bars in a series of buildings centred around a large paved square, and a glass walled atrium. The corner is occupied by a glass walled pavilion that provides access to the underground Melbourne Visitor Centre.
A great place to spend an afternoon with friends and family.

So if you want to make friends hang out here.

Always something to do here.

Always something to do here.
check out the free ACMI exhibitions or just wander around Fed Square, there's a big TV screen there that often shows some cool movies and there are deck chairs provided. If there's a special event on like watching a sports game get there early because it fills up fast! The bar is also really great.
Only bad bit is how uneven the surface is - there are inclines and its almost like cobblestone paving, so be careful!

Amazing place to enjoy and relax as lot of cultural and group activities go on here. People come from different origins and cultural background and celebrate together. On few occasions, public screenplay for footy matches would be displayed.

It's a nice place just near the train station. You can stroll and see beautiful buildings around, the city circle tram and busy shoppers. Best thing is that you can get all tourist information there at their Info centre at the square.

Another exciting for kids is that it has live camera with a huge screen where you can see you self live...we saw that event in the evening. You can check the time.

On the side of the Flinder Street station, it is suitable for leisure and rest. It is surrounded by tourist attractions and beautiful buildings, as well as some cafes and wineries.

Superb location adjacent to Flinder Street Station and very nice public space to rest, relax or meet. Surrounded by many attractions and awesome architectures, with a number of nice cafes and beer garden.

There is lots going on in the Square. Train station, galleries to get too little shops to visit and small restaurants and cafes, plus the water front. Grab a coffee or wine and watch the world go by or arrange to meet friends there. Good place to start your Melbourne visit.

The artistic design choice makes it formidable and astonishingly beautiful. It has definitely accomplished a grounded design, with no negative qualities. The abstract exterior makes it all-the-more admiring. I have not been so satisfied in my life to see a structure. I wish for Melbourne to proceed its artistic abilities.

The square is across the road from Flinders Street Station's main entrance. After heading up a set of shallow stone stairs, you end up in the large plaza, which included a stage. I was there when it was empty and was able to look at the design on the floor. There were really interesting looking buildings lining the edge of the square, both in colour and shape. There are also a few dining areas around including Niska, the robot ice cream bar.
I quite liked the games scattered around the square, as well as umbrellas and seating so you can just relax for a bit there. There is also a set of stairs that take you down towards the river side for a nice stroll.
