Quite possibly the best spot to hang out in Melbourne. Lovely place to take a photo
Not much here. But it's the centre of a lot of other things. Including the station, the river, river cruises and so of the museums
Wow! Federation Square is in the very heart of the city opposite Flinders Street Station and on the Yarra River. The architecture is also very interesting. A visit is highly recommended.
I just love the energy and experience at this place each time I visit. True good Melbourne spirit. Cheers
Very nice place.Next to Flinders street station and ACMI exhibition center.
Lucky for me I had fantastic winter weather so I got to take a break from walking around Melbourne and just enjoy the Square. Interesting place. Not too crowded
place of serene quality and wonderful atmospheric delightfulness
Clashing with all the victorian building, this postmodern architectural zone is tops
There is like nothing here, one of the most boring place ever. The only good thing is it is next to Flinders Street Train Station.
Federation Square is a venue for arts, culture and public events on the edge of the CBD of Melbourne. It covers an area of 3.2 ha (7.9 acres) at the intersection of Flinders Street and Swanston Street built above busy railway lines and across the road from Flinders Street station. It incorporates major cultural institutions such as the Ian Potter Centre and ACMI and Koorie Heritage Trust as well as cafes and bars in a series of buildings centred around a large paved square, and a glass walled atrium. The corner is occupied by a glass walled pavilion that provides access to the underground Melbourne Visitor Centre.
It s not about the square itself... More about the thousand of activities you can find there everyday you could be surprised
Pretty and lots of cafes near by worth a visit in Melbourne
Lovely and pleasant place in the heart of Melbourne city. Enjoy the music and have fun with your mates.
Federation Square (English: Federation Square) is a large public square in Melbourne, Australia, officially opened in October 2002. The square is full of modernist buildings and many facilities, such as a passenger service center, the new Victorian National Gallery, indoor performance hall, SBS media building, transportation hotel, art gallery, restaurants and shops. Atrium links Flinders Street and Yarra River. The exterior is a geometric figure composed of steel and transparent glass. It is an iconic building around the square. The construction project cost 450 million Australian dollars, can accommodate 10,000 tourists at the same time, and organize about 500 rallies every year. There's always something happening here...one highlight I made it to at Fed Square was the Cadel Evans ceremony. It was cram-packed but well worth it.
Great selection of cafes, good to sit and watch the world go by
Opposite Flinders Street Station. There are many performances in the square. There are many tourists who are feeding pigeons. There is a free round bus going through here. Go down the square and there is a river. Someone is leisurely walking there.
I like the open air performance here, close to the people, casual.
Great public use of space.. great cafes n facilities..
Lots to like about Fed square. Perfect meeting place with heaps on offer for all age groups. National Gallery Victoria and ACME have free displays worth two hours of your attention. There is a great choice of food and drinks available. The Square comes alive with large numbers of people gathering to watch sports and cultural events on the big screen. Definitely a place that will leave great memories.
Good place to catch up with friends and people watch.
Always something happening at Federation Square. Easy access via city trams and trains. Walking distance to city attractions and river. Centrally located. Plenty of nearby restaurants and cafes as well as interesting laneways.
Contemporary and historical architecture side by side. Nice place to hang out and meet locals and tourists.
Too much smoking zones. Suitable place to run events. Not generally a comfortable place for visit. During summer, this place is good for sunshine apart from the beach.
That's the place what makes melbourne seem alive... something's going on every time, never a waste to go there, least minimum you'll love the view of Yarra river n skyscrapers
Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia. Designed by Lab Architecture Studio and Bates Smart. Opened in 2002.
Federation Square is the Heart of the Melbourne city. Its a venue for Art ,Culture n Public events. When u are free u can go n sit there n relax. The atmosphere s good .
Basically from where the whole Victorian tourism begins from here.
It has bars, tourist centre, tourist bus, bike rentals available.
Many events happen here and is the main spot to see fireworks in Melbourne.
It was a lovely place to have a casual breakfast of cappuccino and Lune Croissant
Too good and entertaining, you always find something different or fun to do.
Downright unpleasant on warm days, so bring a hat and sunnies if you must visit this public square that s devoid of shade in summer!
Great meeting point for someone that is not familiar with the melbourne CBD. Getting a little outdated with all the technology at the square.
Excellent place to use as a meetup point. Dont even bother with the WiFi, its unusable.
Nice clean place to sit and take in the atmosphere, usually always some performance going on, and lots of museums and places to visit right on the square.
Always a happening place. Whenever you feel bored, you can spend sometime.
Metro tunnel work is going on at the moment.
Interesting, but does not go with the local architecture of the city specially with the cathedral over the road.
This is a huge square located opposite the main train station, Flinders Street and a tram terminal. There is a tourist centre, public toilets, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and more. On special occasions such as the Grand Final there is a big screen which draws huge crowds to watch events live! It is a short walk to the river and St Paul's Cathedral. A great spot to visit!
A square not so square, one going to to swear (public demonstrations)
Today was the Moomba festival all of Melbourne gets involved they gave carnivals family fun water sports fire works bird man rally etc this happens every March we normally have a king and queen of Moomba it is a fun time for every one lasts 2 days make sure you wear comfortable shoes a lot of walking it was fun if you come to Melbourne at this time of year it is a must the kids will love it
The Melbourne City" or "The CBD" is the central built up area of the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, centered on the Hoddle Grid, the oldest part of the city laid out in 1837, and includes its fringes. It is the larger local government area of the City of Melbourne which includes this area and the inner suburbs around it.
As much a culture and dining hub as it is a business district, the CBD has plenty of clubs, bars and chic eateries on its street art plastered laneways. Shoppers throng the ornate 19th-century arcades and sprawling Queen Victoria Market. Federation Square offers Australian art at the Ian Potter Centre, and art-house films and movies at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.
The City of Melbourne represents the city's regularly grid-planned Central Business District and historical core, located on the north bank of the Yarra River. Being at the center of Melbourne, the CBD is extremely well-serviced by all forms of public transport which is free for all in the area of city. Driving into the CBD is discouraged, due to traffic congestion, limited mobility and parking availability
Melbourne is a mix of old and new city. Exclusive shopping arcades and the bustling Queen Victoria Market, along with historical landmarks from centuries ago, blend in with modern office towers. The Rialto Towers in Collins Street is the central business district's tallest building, rising to a height of 251 meters. Views of Melbourne's city skyline can be enjoyed from the taller Eureka Tower across the Yarra River in neighboring Southbank or the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel at Docklands.
It s exciting to travel Melbourne every time. I prefer all to visit Melbourne.
Had a very tasty toastie from the toasty toastie food stall.
Unique and distinctive landmark of Melbourne, in the heart of the arts precinct.
It's Melbourne's central public space, beautiful. Good food good wine, public cinemas...if you're coming to Melbourne, don't miss it.
Didn't really understand the hype around this place.
Beautiful place to visit. Safe , friendly, and clean. Just don't go there after 2am as its very noisey when the cleaners are operating.
Great vibe and almost always full of people :)
Nice meeting spot with friends!
The hot spot hub for all major events happening in Melbourne. The big screen on the main stage makes it a perfect spot to pay back and watch some awesome events happening, with a bunch of mates. Lots of food and beverages options nearby too. Right next to Flinders station, it's an ideal location for any occasion.
The place is very busy, the city sometimes offers concerts or movies or live sports broadcasts. The cool place of melbourne.
Hot and nice place to hang out, specially during Aus Open
There are a variety of activities that are often held here to visit the visitors, and don't forget to visit the visitor center, where there is a lot of useful Chinese information and free Chinese materials.
Love that place becoz you can see what is happening and what people share their opinion. People are freedom, have right to say anything
Polish Festival 2019... Great place to hangout with family and friends
A cool town square!
This place is a big open space for chillin' at among some cool looking architecture! There's the Australian Centre for the Moving Image located at one end of the plaza, some visitor center, and other kinds of high end retail and offices. The place is wide open, so there was a group practicing their rugby skills, people out having some fresh air, and playing music. There's a large-screen television set up showing advertising, but it seems that they get that thing fired up for sporting events and movies.
There's free wifi here!
This is located right down the way from Flinders Station, right in the heart of the CBD.
Federation square is a fun place for people to meet and enjoy time together. There are occasionally activities and events happening which I am always happy to participate in or watch. It has great places for something to eat and has a great information room for people to go in and ask anything they want or need. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a relaxing time.
Great place to bring the family. It can get busy sometimes but that is fine.
Must do in Melbourne - always alive and full of energy - plenty to explore so take some time.
One of my favourite places to hang out in Melbourne. Sit at the outdoor area of Beer Deluxe right up the back of the Square and watch the sunset down the other end of the Yarra River. Best time is Autumn
Great entertainment park. My kids love that place and we are there every month.
Lots of free public events are held in Federation Square, especially on weekends. There are also exhibitions indoors that are well worth seeing. Check out what's on beforehand or just show me and be surprised. Always a hive of activity.
