I bought a preowned 2015 jetta s in September of 2018. Shortly after buying the car, I had issues with the air conditioning cutting itself off, but making a blowing sound still that sounded like the defrost was on. So in November 2018, I took it to the service dept at the dealership to check on the issue. They didn t find the exact issue, but found that there was a seal not properly sealed on my windshield and THAT was the blowing noise I heard.
After that there weren t any more hot days that required my air conditioner to run for long periods of time, until just this May 2019. I made an appt with the service dept for Tuesday, May 21 at 9:00am.
One or two days later, I received an electronic report of my car s health. This report showed that I would need to pay a total of 5286.22$ for all necessary repairs, which includes the cost of 2842.69$ for fixing the air conditioning issue that they were unable to find last year. The difference between when I brought it in, in November vs. now is that it was still under warranty in November, but now is not. Another attention catching item on the quote was 79.95$ for an oil change. I had JUST taken my car in for an oil change to the same place I ve been going for 12 years. I spoke to the service advisor about this, and she said that my oil change wasn t done properly so it s leaking oil. I asked her to leave that and all other recommended repairs alone because I could take that back to my oil guy and have it corrected for no additional charge. She said ok, no problem .
I told my service advisor that I do not feel like I should pay for the repairs to my ac because I had attempted to get them to fix it while it was under warranty. It just happened to be too cold for the Ac afterward so the issue didn t show itself again until this summer. She got in touch with the warranty dept and got them to agree to pay for half of the repairs. I was dissatisfied still because that is still over 1400$ out of my pocket that I would not have to pay if they d fixed the issue to begin with. So the dealership said they d repair my ac if I could pay 500$. I argued that it was still not fair, so the service manager told me to call vw care dept to open a claim for the remaining 500$.
I called vw care and left a voicemail. My call was returned in about an hour. I plead my case to the care rep and she put me on hold to investigate. When she came back on the line, she let me know that the service manager had called in ahead of me and they would absolutely not waive the final 500$ even if it meant losing my business on future car purchases. I had no choice but to approve the 500$ to fix my ac.
After I picked the car up, and paid the 500$, I drove straight to my oil change place and told them what Bobby Beck s service dept had told me about the oil change being done incorrectly. They took pictures of the cap under the car and checked the oil level and clarity right in front of me. There were no leaks, and no need for an oil change. So why had the dealership quoted me for one?
Lastly, they quoted me 499.95$ to change my front brake pads, and 499.95$ to change the rear brake pads. I just went to autozone and bought BOTH sets of pads for 71$ (and they come with a lifetime warranty), and am having a car friend switch them out at no charge. Um. So there s a 930$ difference between doing them myself or having them done at the dealership. Wow! There s another item on my quote for fixing my fuel door that won t stay closed: 465.93$. I googled the price of the part, and it s in the neighborhood of 30$. There are more items on there at a super marked up price, but you get my point.
I will never return to this dealership, and I hope all other consumers are weary of this place. They are shady, and will attempt to rob you blind
