Lovely place with lots of history and the opportunity for entertainment for all ages
It was a bit horrible and I would never go there again, but the quality of the acting was great. I came there because of my class trip and I participated in the viking camp area. We did a lot of activities, however the tents were not sealed and the rain could come in. Also, horrible weather. They gave us warm clothes for the weather, but I would still never go there again.
We loved to go there last year, this time the activities were limited because of the COVID-19 precautions. We missed the weapon demo and playing in the huts with all the viking "tools". On the other hand, there was a new performance at the king's hall, and the animals were out, so our kids had a lot of fun anyways.
Very exciting to experience the different ages. very real to walk around the small villages. Definitely a place I will visit again.
Fairly limited of houses etc. , but interesting nevertheless. Several workshops. The kids loved it
Big experience. Something for everyone. Great activities and an absolutely fantastic hall. It made a big impression. Room for many visitors, but the queue for food and drink - do something about it.
And now do something about the pre-ordered tickets. 6x scanning seems idiotic when followed. And time consuming for the staff.
An amazing experience for the whole family. Great commitment from the employees and contributing volunteers. We look forward to the next time we go to the past.
The new viking hall is absolutely fantastic, and definitely a visit each, luckily there was half the entrance price.
The rest was fine enough, but hold on, how could it be done many 100 percent better if there were more employees / volunteers who acted past people, who could show how everything went and who could tell about it all.
It is as if we in Denmark are afraid of something like this, as if it is not cultural enough, but it would make a day in camps much more interesting.
Fantastic place. As visitors there is plenty to see, but the experience of staying in one of the available ages for a week is a very great experience. A break in a busy everyday life many could learn a lot from!
A must for historically enthusiastic people who are hungry for knowledge and who want to delight their children on vacation. an incredible museum, worth every entry. Bring time, look, be amazed, enjoy the day and recharge your batteries. let yourself be captured mystically in the spiral and commemorate the old gods and rethink the nailed god.
Lacks a few worked workshops where you can try your hand at the craft ...
Delicious place for the whole family, which is being rebuilt with the Vikings house and added places here and there, new listening records are listed at the sites and renovations have been underway for a while. Play with clay, color wool and low bonfires, chop stems and search with metal detector, something for the whole family.
Interesting and exciting place spread over a large hilly area.
Very nice large area and the staff were also very friendly and helpful. However, due to the coronavirus, some "attractions" were closed but otherwise top
It is simply so exciting to be in Camps. And we always have too little time
Time goes on in the good way. Exciting fun and educational
Great place, many activities during the summer holidays
A super place for those interested in history. Denmark from antiquity to the Middle Ages and you go around buildings etc. instead of being in a museum. Really good.
An immersion in the life of the ordinary danes hundreds of years ago. Different experience options. Both as a visitor and during a camp.
Lovely past area where duck can have a long time to walk.
A great place. A lot to see, a lot to join in / try for yourself. Especially for children. Carving from the spoon, archery, boating, making fireworks or weaving your own friendship ribbon. It was really an experience. If we go back in the area we will come back here. The terrain is also very beautiful landscape.
A great, spacious area with many enchanted corners. Interesting insights into past ways of life and handicrafts. Some opportunities to try it out.
Must do when visiting Denmark and interested in history
A really cool place to explore! The great hall is impressive and beautiful! The campus is massive and there are tons of activities for people of all ages. Unfortunately, due to Covid, many of them were closed. But you can literally walk back in history from the stone age to the 19th century and take part in activities that would be common in that time period.
Exciting and enlightening. Beautiful and lovely. Incredible royal hall.
Exciting place, entertainment, history, learning, what more could you want
Great place for kids and young people, and anyone who wants to explore the old times
We came to see the royal hall, we drove from Funen paid for 4 people, then we came to the royal hall and then it was closed, but you could book a guided tour the next day. What the hell is that for some cheating, why did we not get to know that the royal hall was closed when we bought tickets for 4 adults.
A lot of activities for both children and adults, and opportunities to talk to knowledgeable people about the different periods
Interesting park to visit, discovery of old Danish dwellings with thatched roof, crafts, pottery, weaving. Beautiful wooden construction of an overturned drakkar, housing rooms with beautiful wooden decorations.
Delicious place and really talented intermediaries.
Nice place for the family to visit and it doesn't cost anywhere. So if you want to see some beautiful scenery and have a good experience then it is recommended. The volunteers are also really pleasant and helpful.
Super good place for all young and old and with small and big handicaps a place where you can use all your senses together with that you can experience something the history of Denmark.
Love this place - take a trip back in time! The Kings Hall is still under construction but it is already impressive!
A place where you can get in close contact with the way our ancestors live
Great concept. Experience life in the viking era on your own body and mind. You can even live there for a while to get the full experience, but remember to book in advance as it's very popular.
The place is large and there a lots to do. Workshops, events, animal feeding and the like. Easily enough for a full day of entertainment.
Great for families and kids of all ages.
If you are in or around Roskilde and interested in history or culture this place is a must visit.
Always a good experience, despite it was MANY years since I was last there
We were there in 30 degree heat.and still it was a party and see how our ancestors have lived and survived. We were very very impressed with the new king castle. HUGE. Regards Torben Porst thank you again.
It is an exciting place to visit. One can sense to go far back in time, thanks to the great enthusiasm of the people who help run the place. Many thanks to the volunteers who help make the place alive.
A large beautiful area with workshops, settlements and villages from different ages. The past is brought to life through fun activities for children and adults.
Totally lovely experience. Every time we pass by, so much good news is made. A pleasure. Nice with new food initiatives. It was much needed.
Beautiful area - very suitable for family picnics. Informative and vividly brought closer to archeology
We have been there several times. In the high season almost unbeatable and simply a "must". Quite stripped down in low season. Find out offers on the Internet in good time and it will be just GREAT - The kids can fight daddies, cook food, do handicrafts ... great !!!!
Old love does not rust - and yet!
An Iron Age sword does not have much resistance after about 2000 years in the soil - the same applies to woodwork in post holes, woolen clothes etc.
In the Legendary Land of Camps, something is really being done about this problem; one recreates, resurrects and brings to life in a very knowledgeable way 2000 years - yes, even further back the re-creation of everyday life from the past goes to our latitudes.
Currently, the highlight is the impressive newly inaugurated "Kongehal", which can take your breath away when you visit it.
For 40 years I have been inspired by this place that can inspire both children and adults.
We visited this unfortunately on a calm day when there were not so many demonstrations, but we found it a very interesting experience. Still confronting how great the contrast is between how we live today and how it used to be.
Marvelous place! We went with our 2 kids and we all loved the experience. During the long walk through the park, we could find several constructions of different ages. Some of them had inhabitants, happy to share with the visitors their food (my kids tried Neolithic porridge and 1800's pancakes). We tried the viking canoe and baked biscuits, with flour we made.
First of all, an actual nature and very beautiful. A big disappointment that almost all Viking houses were closed down and the few left were locked and instead there is by being built a huge impressive Viking royal house, would clearly displace the old Viking houses, and when we know it then the old boat bridge and ax shaft was now also to be preferred, even if horse carriage was missing.
All in all, a good but too expensive experience again
Incredibly worth visiting and lovely area. The Viking Hall is fantastically executed and incredibly beautiful, especially inside.
Exciting place for children and adults. Funny that you can live there for a week and live like in the Iron Age
Lovely nature beautiful area, good space, fun that children can grind grain into flour, long queues at most
It is an amazing experience to walk around and see how our ancestors lived and lived. The Royal Hall is impressively beautiful. A fantastic building. You can easily spend 4-5 hours walking around and having a food basket with you
Lejre Experimental Centre/ Lejre Forsøgscenter: A Journey Through Time
If you are looking for a unique and exciting destination that offers an immersive experience of Denmark's rich cultural heritage, then look no further than the Lejre Experimental Centre/ Lejre Forsøgscenter. Located in the heart of Zealand, this center is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, archaeology, and experimental archaeology.
The center is part of Sagnlandet Lejre, which translates to "the Land of Legends at Lejre." It is an open-air museum that showcases houses and environments from different periods in Danish history. Visitors can explore the Stone Age, Iron Age, Viking Age, and 19th century Denmark through reconstructed buildings and interactive exhibits.
One of the unique features of the center is its focus on experimental archaeology. This means that visitors can not only see how people lived during different periods but also participate in activities such as flint knapping or weaving using traditional techniques. The aim is to provide a hands-on experience that allows visitors to understand how people lived in the past.
The Stone Age section features a reconstructed village with houses made from timber frames covered with clay walls and roofs made from straw or reeds. Visitors can try their hand at making fire using flint stones or making pottery using clay dug up from nearby fields.
Moving on to the Iron Age section takes visitors back to around 500 BC when iron was first introduced into Denmark. Here you will find reconstructed longhouses where families would have lived together with their animals during winter months. You can learn about iron smelting techniques or try your hand at spinning wool into yarn using a spindle.
The Viking Age section brings visitors closer to more familiar images of Vikings raiding across Europe but also shows what life was like for ordinary people living in villages across Scandinavia during this period. You can visit a chieftain's hall where feasts were held or take part in archery competitions just like Vikings did centuries ago.
Finally, moving onto 19th century Denmark shows how life changed dramatically over time as industrialization took hold across Europe. Here you will find examples of traditional Danish farmhouses alongside more modern buildings such as schools or post offices.
In addition to these permanent exhibits, there are also seasonal events throughout the year such as markets selling traditional crafts or festivals celebrating specific periods such as Midsummer celebrations held every June.
Overall if you are looking for an immersive experience that takes you back through time then visiting Sagnlandet Lejre should be high on your list! With its focus on experimental archaeology combined with interactive exhibits it provides something truly unique compared to other museums around Europe while still being accessible enough for all ages!
