I was in town w/my daughter for the day when a known cardiac arrhythmia started, & I developed symptoms that were far worse than ever before; because it wouldn t resolve like usual.
When my daughter got me to the ER, I was very close to passing out & had some other scary symptoms occurring. The staff immediately came to my side & took me back.
I was admitted overnight for observation & I have to say that I had the absolute best care I could have imagined. I was not an ICU patient, but went there because the med/surg beds were full at that moment. Every single person from ED staff & docs, to ICU staff (Cory, Curt, & Holden to name a few) were so kind & caring, staff for blood draws & echocardiogram, aides, cardiologist, both hospitalists...all so caring, attentive & took the time to really listen. Dietary/ housekeeping kind & courteous as well. I m quite surprised by the negative reviews, as our experience was far different. There is not one thing I would have changed. It was a very scary time & I m so thankful to have had such an amazing group of professionals looking out for me. Their knowledge, concern & support made me feel supported/safe & in great hands. Wish I had gotten everyone s names for personal shout outs. Rare to find a situation where everyone exceeded standards, but this was it.

Terribly rude nurses and doctor (Dr. Dull)... only exception was the first nurse who initially checked me into the ER. Staff was unprofessional, discussing drinking and recreational pill use for all patients to hear. I've been to many ER's and I am usually very understanding of the stress the staff are under but there is no excuse for the attitude and lack of care at this place. They tried to rush me out of there as quickly as possible (understandable) but I proceeded to lose consciousness again during the discharge process so they finally took my case a little seriously. Will not be back here if I can help it, although there usually isn't an option unfortunately. Future patients beware.

Showed up early, they sent me to the wrong building and it took them 10 minutes to figure out that the doctor I was supposed to see is working in another building. Then at the desk they took another 15 minutes putting irrelevant information into the system that no other medical service ever asked for. And after all that, I was about 10 minutes late for my appointment and the lazy doctor decided that was too late when all I needed was some paperwork done. Probably decided he wanted a coffee break at my expense. Then they had the audacity to tell me it was my fault, the staff all snickered about it. Horrible service, will not be going back. Holzer had me in my appointment 5 minutes after I got there.

They have no idea how much things cost, their knowledge is little about actual healthcare, and they don t seem to want to actually listen to what your situation is. I have been there twice to see a doctor and each time I have had to seek follow up care from another doctor(s) making me spend more and more money.

You can be rest assured knowing your IV will always have plenty of air pockets waiting for you, with in my case being just below a lethal amount. I basically had an attempted assassination and dodged an air embolism bullet. I feel more heroic than a WW2 vet coming out of there without flatlining. Thank you for making my blood vessels more durable than ever but I don t think I ll be back.

I was in ICU wouldn't let me get out of bed becaus...

I was in ICU wouldn't let me get out of bed because I had a chest tube, said if I pulled it out it'd be bad I'm assuming that meant death idk. Then after a week they sent me home remember I couldn't be out of bed or moved out of ICU but sent home?
With the chest tube still inserted the Dr put a surgical glove on the end with a rubber band to catch the yuck & gave me gloves to change them it had to have a slice in the glove so it wouldn't bust open so it didn't work all that yuck got all over me, my clothes, bedding you get it everything. They didn't have a proper piece on the end to cap it off they couldn't find anything when they put it in. After being home two days my lung became so infected I had a temp of 104.7 returned to the ER and they couldn't get the temp down. They were going to admit me and I said no your not send me to another hospital I was immediately transferred to Riverside and received excellent care they were successful in getting my temp down I was pretty out of it but I think I was there 7-10 days. Riverside didn't let me out of bed either and I'm not so sure there the greatest hospital but I lived and I think if I had stayed at Obleness I may not have. Also when the chest tube was inserted something went wrong they said it was called reexpansion pulmonary edema and was rare, but my heart was the only thing keeping me alive I wasn't getting any oxygen I was awake during the insertion of the chest tube and could see everything until that happened I couldn't see anymore nor talk that's very hard to do when your not breathing I could hear everything everyone has told me your hearing is the last thing to go before you die I could hear the Dr he wanted to insert a ventilator to breathe for me. I was thinking in my head NO I don't want a ventilator and they allowed my friend back into the room just as this happened I didn't know it but she said they were looking at her to say they could vent me and she said I was shaking my head NO she told them look at her she doesn't want it. I heard the Dr saying over & over we need to vent her or we could try bipap maybe bicap don't know if that's the correct name it's a mask over your nose & mouth very tight that feels like a wind tunnel blowing up your nose if it gets loose on your face it blows your cheeks more than sticking your head out a car window at 60 mph I don't know any way to explain how hard it's blowing air. But thank God it worked or I wouldn't be typing this review. Needless to say I will not step one foot in the door of that hospital no matter what they call it Obleness, Ohio health, etc. My friend said as long as I went without oxygen I'm very lucky there's no brain damage neither her nor I have any idea how long this was but it seemed like at least 10 minutes to me I'm sure it wasn't or again no typing from me. Please if you don't just have a cold or need stitched up. I wouldn't even trust them to be able to read an x-ray for a broken bone go to another hospital any hospital!!

When visiting the ER for an ortho injury that occurred while ice skating, I was provided a knee immobilizer and crutches. They refused to give any instructions even when I told them that I have never used crutches and live on the third floor of my dorm. They did not tell me a diagnosis but provided paperwork that indicated a diagnosis and that I should resume normal activities. They also did not provide information regarding weight bearing status. So apparently this hospital feels that wearing ice skates, while wearing a knee immobilizer and using crutches is appropriate.

Operating under the ownership / management of Ohio Health and having the OU Osteopathic Medical College somehow intertwined has been quite good for the hospital. General care has improved greatly and I am certain it will continue on that path. Perhaps the best development is the intimate relationship with numerous advanced Ohio Health facilities in Columbus, while attracting many medical specialists to Athens is a remarkable accomplishment !

Absolutely terrible hospital. Considering so many of these reviews keep complaining about a lot of the same things, that should tell you a lot.
My bf was in this hospital overnight earlier this year, and this place was pretty useless. They barely provided any actual care, would go a couple hours at a time with no nurses or doctor checking on our room, one particular nurse was rude and talked openly about my bf and his mental illness in the hallway. I could carry on.
Deserves zero stars, really.

All bias aside, they shouldn t even be allowed to call themselves doctors or nurses here. Every employee is rude and will literally talk bad about you in the hallway while you wait hours to be treated. I would rather amputate my own arm then have to go back to this hospital .

My daughter & 2 granddaughters & I drove 3 hours to get here yesterday for a family wedding today. We have never been here. When my daughter came down with a fast & furious case of food poisoning she was severely dehydrated after just a few hours of being so sick. I googled closest hospitals to me & OH O Blennes popped up. I was horrified by the horrible reviews so I called the front desk at our hotel to get a locals input. She told me that she has been to this hospital 3 times without any problems whatsoever. This calmed my nerves so away we went. The staff from beginning to end, no matter what level of education could not have been any nicer, and or professional. The hospital from the waiting room to the ER room was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. I m sorry so many others had not so favorable experiences. I hope that this helps someone else possibly from OOT to know it was not at ALL horrible for us. We were honestly in & out in under 2 hours & after a saline IV along with anti nausea meds & some much needed sleep we are going to make our wedding this evening after all. I CANNOT THANK THE STAFF ENOUGH!!

I'm only reviewing one star because zero is not an option. I went in for a "crisis evaluation" as was recommended by a social worker. I sat for five hours and had a rude woman basically hand me a packet of information I could've found in a Google search. No doctor helped with my medication needs. No therapist talked to me. A nurse took my vitals and made sit for five hours for abso-god-forsaken-NOTHING! I could've stayed at home and continued being depressed and at least saved whatever copay they're going to gouge me and been as equally screwed as I am now. I can't speak as to their other standards, but their mental health standards are non-existent. It's called a CRISIS evaluation, not a slightly bad mood eval. WASTE OF TIME.

Yeah, no thank you, ill take the 2 years I probably have left, and stay away from this place, what a circus. I thought thats what Barnum and Bailey was, but now they've apparently moved here and opened the O'bleness/Wringling Brothers, Barnum, and Bailey Circus with Segfried and Roy, and a special appearance by Shamoo. Thank Cthulu I never got inside far enough to see the actual show.

Nurses were extremely rude, hostile, and disrespectful. Did not give me any information about what tests they ran on my mom who was admitted to the emergency room, or follow up instructions. Cannot stress how rude these nurses are. I would rather go to a hospital over an hour away than ever go here again.

I took my 92 year old mom to O'Bleness for a blood test for anemia because her doctor was out of town. After 3 1/2 hours, the doctor informed me she should be hospitalized for irregular heartbeat. When I told him no because she has been doctoring for that and taking medicine, he became irate and yelled at me. I told him if he had a 92 year old relative in there, he would have a different attitude. He wanted to cure her, we wanted care. He informed me loudly and rudely that I didn't know him and it was very presumptuous of me to know how he'd think. The doctor was rude but other things were wrong too. They put an IV port in her arm but never gave her an IV. No one came to check on her either until I went into the hallway and someone asked if everything was ok. Don't you think they should have asked if she was cold, comfortable, needed anything? I was not happy.

Was there 6 hours, and the doctor came in once, I left my room to go look for my doctor after waiting 2 hours for him to come back and could not find him or even a single person, for that matter. So I left. I was in a different part of the ER and most of the lights were off, there was nobody to be found. Terrible experience, won't be going there again.

Charges for services at O'Bleness (blood work, ultrasounds, MRIs, etc.) are always significantly higher than those from Holzer Clinic, Holzer Medical Center, or Athens Medical Lab. You get nickel-and-dimed to death on "Hospital Services." You can request that your doctor order tests from another facility, and I recommend that you do so.

I was taken in by ambulance for a massive bleed 2 weeks post partum, for starters the ems drivers were rude and nasty. They made me feel like I was a drug addict because I was crying, I never complained of pain and never asked for drugs. When we got to the hospital they wheeled me in on the gurney and left me in a hallway without telling me anything, just walked away. Finally a nurse came and pushed me into a room and left, also didn't say a word to me, the only response I got was a nod when I asked if I could have a sanitary napkin. She never brought it and it was also 20 minutes before someone a nurse came back, thank God I hadn't been dying! It took them 2 hours to figure out what was wrong, another hour for them to bring me discharge paper work, then Another hour for someone to come take my iv out. Then as I was leaving the nurse stopped me and asked for my insurance card and that she'd be right back with it. 45 minutes later she finally brought it back. All of that and they ended up not even billing my insurance and I've had to call them 4 times trying to get them to bill it!

The administrative staff (or at least the secretaries) are extremely rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. In the future I will do what I can to avoid this institution. Literally the worst hospital ever. One time I went...

Literally the worst hospital ever. One time I went in to the ER because I had mono and my throat was bleeding and I couldn't even swallow my own spit. Not only did they take FOREVER to get to me, they made me take a pee test and when the results came back, they told me I had a UTI (I thought this was strange because I hadn't had any symptoms of a UTI) they then proceeded to give me antibiotics. I took them because I trusted what the doctor said. They gave me AWFUL side effects. So, I went to campus care on OU campus about the side effects I was getting from the antibiotics. Only then did I discover that the UTI test CAME BACK NEGATIVE. I LITERALLY NEVER HAD A UTI BUT THEY GAVE ME MEDICINE FOR IT AND TOLD ME TO TAKE IT ANYWAYS. I was furious when I found out. But oh wait there's more. I have a very serious chronic pain disease in my left leg called CRPS, I have had to explain to the doctors in there every single time I go what CRPS is. A DOCTOR SHOULD KNOW. So, a couple of months ago I sprained my left ankle. Since this chronic pain disease is in my left leg, the pain was horrific. I go to the ER and they actually got me back to a room kind of fast, then the doctor took at least an hour to come back and tell me that my ankle was sprained after looking at x-rays. I was in obvious pain, I had tears flowing down my face. So he asked if I wanted something for the pain (keep in mind I absolutely hate pain killers I will only take them very rarely if I'm in unbearable pain) so I said yes. He told me he would be right back. HE NEVER CAME BACK. I was laying there in agony for almost 2 more hours before I stopped a nurse passing by and tried to explain to her that the doctor said he was going to bring me something for the pain but never came back. She then proceeded to go up to another doctor and tell him that I was acting weird and that I was demanding pain killers she said "why does she want it so bad?" BECAUSE I'M IN AGONIZING PAIN. Ever think of that? It's not like I was asking for a prescription. I was asking for one single pill. They could have given me a Tylenol extra strength and j wouldn't have cared. I just needed something I couldn't lay there in that much pain any longer. My doctor never came back either. I had to ask a different doctor to discharge me. Honestly, if it's not a super urgent problem/emergency, do yourself a favor and just drive to Columbus or even Lancaster to get far better medical care. O'Bleness is a joke.

Sent my daughter home with no diagnosis she had to return same same day with worsening symptoms. They made her wait until late and she had no way to get back to her dorm so she had to leave without results. Her symptoms were consistent with a bacterial blood infection. They dont value human life. Now I have to drive for 3 hours tomorrow and take her to a real hospital. Can anyway let me know how to file an official complaint with an outside agency for failure to provide proper medical attention. They show zero concern or empathy. Awful place and either the medical staff doesnt care or they dont know what they are doing. Wish I could have had her home were my local hospitals would have helped her. This place has a two star rating. I have never seen a hospital with such a low rating.

Went to the ER Monday around 11:30 for sutures to close laceration of left hand. There were three others waiting in the reception area. I was given a ice pack and told to wait. A nurse advised she needed an x-ray before they would do ANYTHING. After waiting till 1:00 pm 1.5 hours and still setting in the reception area I advised I was going to another provider to receive treatment. Was advised ok but if you wait we will get you in. I was driven to a competitors location within 1 hour I had 15 sutures ALL BLEEDING STOPPED AND WAS HEADED HOME WITH MEDICATION. Very disappointed in the ER and their lack of urgency or interest in patient needs THIS IS MY OPINION BASED ON MY VISIT TO THIS PROVIDER. YOUR VISIT MAY BE BETTER OR WORSE

The emergency room is absolutely horrendous. The doctors and nurses don't care either way about you. My doctor had no problem misdiagnosing me with pneumonia and a pulled stomach muscle. He prescribed an antibiotic and a muscle relaxer. Once the narcotics from the visit wore off, and the muscle relaxer didn't work, the pain came back tenfold. Once back in the ER to hey charged me for a second visit, ran a cat scan, and REALIZED I had appendicitis. If I had stayed at home it could have ruptured- causing serious complications. While waiting for surgery - and the pain was intolerable- the nurses wouldn't bring any pain medication no matter how many times I asked. Finally, I asked a male nurse and he checked with a female nurse who blatantly lied about giving me any pain medication. Once out of the ER and upstairs, I had a a great experience. Dr. Nesbitt, the nurses Tiffany, Brandon, and Steve were amazing.

This place is so slow!!!! Come in here at any time any day of the week and you are here for hours. Been here almost 3 hours and all they want to do is keep drawing blood but when asked what test it's for they say they don't know. 4 different times. Still haven't seen a Dr only a nurse and the nurse is no help at all just keeps saying "shouldn't be much longer" and I have to push the nurse call button for them to even come in the room to talk to me. Do not recommend this er to anyone for anything. Not unless you have all day/night to spend

I went to the emergency room because of a referral from my primary care physician, for a severe concussion that was making me go in and out of consciousness. I handed the nurse at the front desk my referral that said "emergency CT scan needed" and the nurse said "I don't know what to do with this, hold on" and she called in another nurse who looked at my referral and said "I'm sorry, you're going to have to call back in the morning and schedule an appointment." She handed me back my referral and they turned their backs and started talking to each other. They did not give me a number to call or any further instructions.

This is as current as it gets, because I was just released from O'Bleness Hospital.
I went in by ambulance, with pneumonia. I was scary-sick, and being elderly, in this age of COVID-19, made it even dicier.
And some of the Reviews here were NOT reassuring!
FORGET THEM. I worked in Patient care, and Stuff Happens. Hospitals are not Resort Hotels. The goal is to get you well - not stroke your ego.
The people at O'Bleness were AWEsome: caring, helpful, reassuring and friendly.
And they got me back home feeling much better, and with the knowledge, meds and equip I need to manage my health issues for a better quality of life.
I thank the O'Bleness staff for all they give - and thank God for providing them, when I needed them!

OBLENESS Hospital says it accepts United Health care. Don't believe them!!! They will tell you they accept United Healthcare, but when you get your bill, it will all be billed OUT OF NETWORK. This is because many of the doctors at Obleness DO NOT accept United Healthcare. It is very very misleading to have a patient come in and tell them Obleness has a contract with United Healthcare when the actual docs that bill you DO NOT accept this coverage. I will be taking this up with CMS and the hospital to change this tactic!

I needed some x-rays and called to ask if they accepted my insurance as I was told to do by my primary care physician. The woman on the phone was completely rude and unprofessional and first said that I had to ask my insurance company. No, I need to know if YOUR hospital accepts my insurance. I tried to explain what I was asking and she snapped "We accept all insurances, okay? We'll accept all of them." She couldn't be bothered to give me an answer to my question or even to hand me off to someone who could.
Obviously this was not convincing so I got ahold of someone at my insurance company and asked. He spent 30 minutes looking into it and calling them and tracking down someone that would actually answer the question. Turns out, NO, they do NOT accept my insurance. Cue shock and surprise (not). At least the guy at my insurance company was awesome about doing all of this and helping me. The people at the hospital not so much. If they can't even bother to answer a question, I wouldn't trust any of them with my medical care.

Giving birth to 4 children at this hospital, I have witness drastic changes! It is now a Baby Friendly hospital and a part of Ohio Health. We recently went to the ER and received TOP NOTCH care and only saw RN's, NPs, and MD's or DO's. Then spent some time on the 3rd floor for a small stay while my son was monitored. The cafeteria and room service has seriously healthy and fresh options. AMAZING. Such a huge difference from 10 years ago when I first became a mother.

It all depends on what you are there for. We couldn't have asked for a better experience in the maternity ward. Having a baby there was a pleasure and all of our needs were seen to immediately. That said, going to the ER is a nightmare. It is the kind of place you go into with one broken leg and come out with two broken legs. Having a baby- highly recommend. Need stitches- go to Holzer Urgent Care.

I was in town for a wedding last Saturday and got food poisoning Friday night. Up throwing up all night until about 5am when my mom took me to this ER. It was the closest to our hotel. First I d like to say that EVERYONE was nice and helpful! Second we were in and out in under 2 hours. They checked my blood and urine. Concluded it was just food poisoning and gave me IV fluids and some nausea meds. I went from feeling like COMPLETE TRASH to feeling like I could do a cartwheel. Lol. I went back to the hotel got some much needed sleep and actually made it to the wedding! Thank you so much!!

O'bleness is filled with incompetent, irresponsibl...

O'bleness is filled with incompetent, irresponsible doctors that have no idea what they're doing. My roommate was sick (she had major chest pains for two days), and we finally decided to go to the ER to get her checked out because everywhere else was closed. When we got there we were checked in, she was given an EKG, and we sat in the waiting room. It took 2 and a half hours for her to finally get called back after I had walked up to reception and asked them how long the wait would be. They had beds open all morning but had not called anyone back. After she got into her room, they took her blood pressure and left. Two hours later the doctor finally comes in and asks her a couple questions, and then says shes going to have an X-ray done, and that the doctor was going to look at her EKG's. My roommate has the X-ray done, comes back, and it's another hour before someone else comes in. After she is given a GI cocktail, there is a Code Blue (cardiac arrest) that comes in and apparently it takes all the doctors and nurses to stabilize him for 3 hours because we didn't see our doctor until after I reminded a nurse that we were still there. (The Code blue guy was stabilized 10-15 minutes after arriving). Five minutes after I talked to the nurse, our doctor comes back in and tells us everything is fine and she gives my roommate two prescriptions to help her chest. We never did see her X-rays or EKG's.

This experience is one of the worst I have ever had. I would rather drive 2 hours home even if I was dying than go back to O'bleness. Horrible service. Horrible doctors. If I could give you 0 stars I would.

I was initially skeptical about going here after reading reviews of terrible visits. I can say without a doubt that my experience was the best I could ever have. I showed up at ER with a massive cyst on my face that my doctor was concerned about and required IV of antibiotics. I was checked in and taken back within 5 minutes. Every single person I interacted with was so incredibly kind to me. They were easy to calm me, they were there every time I needed something, and I was out in a couple hours after continuous and extremely helpful treatment. Please disregard past reviews, because it is clear to me that they turned things around and provide amazing care. Thank you hospital staff!

This is one of the worst hospitals of all time honestly. I had a dislocated finger and it took over 3 hours for me to be seen & when I was seen by a physician it took all of 3 minutes to fix the issue; but it wasn t done properly & my finger is still crooked 2 years later. Fast forward two years later. I m receiving a notice to pay an invoice from a debt collector to pay due medical expense from the physicians who did a terrible job and never reached out to me directly to bill. Don t go to Obleness you re better off making the hour drive to Columbus.

Considering I was at a hospital, this was the worst service I've ever had. They called me into a room after about a half hour and then just let me sit in that room for about 3 hours. Finally, I left and decided that the pain was better than being in the hospital until 2AM because that's where it was headed.

I waited for over 9 hours they did almost nothing. I went in for breathing problems they gave me one breathing treatment after waiting 5 or 6 hours. I even told them that I have asthma and emphysema and that I needed steroids, antibiotics and breathing treatments. When I left my blood pressure was high and my O2 level had not gone up any. They ran a bunch of blood work that I didn't need at all and an EKG. Worst bedside manner ever and almost zero communication. I will never go back there. I will die on my way somewhere else before I ever go back. This hospital should not be open at all. I am new to Athens so I thought I would ask least give them a chance despite what I had heard biggest mistake ever.

Not a place for a loved one to stay, especially if...

Not a place for a loved one to stay, especially if unfortunate enough to be elderly and on medicare/medicaid. Uncaring and neglectful would be how I characterized this place. Between the RN's and the aids, a patient is SUPPOSE to be checked on once every hour........didn't happen! A patient that is not moving, barely opening her eyes, can't eat or drink without someone helping her, was neglected for hours. If not for friends and family stopping in, who knows how long she would have gone without eating or drinking. Family was told she was being discharged and sent to a nursing home immediately and we had to make an uninformed decision about which one to send her to. When they had to delay discharge due to severe anemia and the need for a transfusion, we had time to research on the government website for ratings for the different nursing homes and realized we had chosen one of the poorest rated. Being the weekend and the following Monday a holiday, we could not reach a social worker at the nursing home to arrange a better rated one. The hospital would not delay discharge, even though she is still severely anemic, doesn't move, can't eat or drink on her own. I told them that she'd be even more neglected at the place they were sending her than she was there at O'Bleness! No one cared, they just wanted rid of her. Heartless and uncaring people. I hope the same treatment befalls them some day.

I utilized many of their emergency services last week. The people there are a caring and professional staff. The entire team went above and beyond in tending to my injuries.

They were forthcoming with information, suggestions, and options. I would not hesitate for a second to use those services again.

This place is a complete joke. My dad went in the middle of the day around 2 & they never took him back for like 2 hours so he left & came back home. Then my dad went back late at night when it wasn't busy. He stayed 3 hours & only saw the doctor twice. He still never got any answers. I wouldn't go to this hospital if it was my last option. They need to get people that are willing to do there job instead of the people they have now. They are legitly a joke. If you have a loved one you want to get answers for or get help with don't go there.

Horrible. Zero communication, poor attitude, low quality nearly non-existent treatment, horrendous wait time, and chaotic atmosphere. All with a nurses station full of employees playing on their phones and playing with their hair. Endured an endless round of unnecessary tests that had no relation at all to an asthma attack. They seem to be milking the tests for every penny of insurance money while not actually talking to the patient or treating anything. Why else draw blood 3 times for a battery of tests when the actual problem is an asthma attack? The pop machine even took my money and gave me nothing. That pop machine sums up this place perfectly. The bed was actually a solid hard gurney covered by a thin foam mattress, no pillow, and topped with a sheet tossed on casually, not even made at all. The one star is for the couple of nurses who were at least kind.

I've been in the ER with my son for almost 6 hours. It isn't even crowded. We were finished hours ago and they won't discharge us. There is a patient in each room requesting discharge papers. I overheard the nurse politely ask the doctor for a timeframe and he told her when he was done.
I drove several hours to bring my son here because he attends school at OU and was sick. It is the middle of the night now. Maybe I'm spoiled, but where I am from, doctors don't treat people like this. It's rude and inefficient. I have spent less time in the hospital for a surgery. I don't know how this place stays open.
