Lake louise is even within walking distance with shopping opportunities, although not much more.
We met caribous and even a coyote on the campground, unfortunately the weather was bad, so we traveled on.

We stayed three nights because we had electricity here and the heating was essential. Not idyllic but functional.
Beginning of September without reservation still enough places available. (09/2014)

If you can get in, this is a near perfect campsite. Peak season needs a reservation but it's safe, gorgeous, quiet, and decently private.

Tip: If you plan on visiting Moraine lake while you're here, the parking lot fills up QUICK, so make sure to get an early start or bring shuttle bus fare (6$/adult, half price senior & child)

It was ok, pretty loud(guests from the other tents). Not to many cooking shelters, many toilets out of service, big line to the showers. around 10 min walking distance to the Lake Louise Town center...not sure if I would stay again.

Other campground was closed, so I stayed here. There are two sides. One for rvs, one for tents. I was on the tent side. Which is protected by electric fence, just in case bears make their way to the site. The spots were small, but spacious enough for a large tent. It was clean and had all the facilities. Firewood is provided. Although not covered so it may be wet depending on conditions. My only complaint is the firepits are extremely small. Enough to fit 2 small logs.

Great prices and private tent sites, this is one of the best campgrounds I've been to period. The showers are nice and as the campground is situated along a grizzly bear highway the electric fence that surrounds the tent sites makes it a little easier to fall asleep.

There are also communal buildings located throughout the campground with space for fires, which are a great way to get to know people from all over the world.

Close access to the highway, and well maintained washrooms.
Only 4 stars because I arrived just after 10pm, and there was no one working the front office. I wasn t aware they closed at that time (nothing in any emails from the reservation), so I had to wander in the dark to find my camp site. Also, the speed bumps over cables running across the road were too high for my car (which is not lowered at all) so I bottomed out multiple times trying to get in and out of the camp grounds.

First, the good news. Campground was clean, with clean washrooms. It s also very convenient to Lake Louise, Yoho and other hiking/biking trails. On the hard-sided trailer grounds, the sites are generally doubles but they are spaced from neighboring double sites.
The bad news. The hard-sided grounds are about 50 yards from the Canadian Pacific railroad. This is not a lightly used rail line. Long, multi-engine trains pass the campground many tines day and night. I ve counted as many as six overnight trains. Trains blow the horn 4-5 times as they pass the campground (sound intensity is approximately 100 Db. Think loud motorcycle). Annoying in daytime, sleep disrupting at night.
Not many other options if you want to stay at Lake Louise, but be prepared for some disrupted sleep.

Perfect location in terms of proximity to lake Louise and lake Moraine. However, overall experience was rather disappointing, there was only single showers at the very end of the camping and the wood they offer for $8 a night was a freshly chopped tree, therefore it was hard to get fire with primative tools. Also make sure you book well in advance, because it fills pretty quick.

Great base for exploring the area by Lake Louise. Paddling Lake Louise and Moraine Lake is must do to really take in the whole experience while not having to rub shoulders with other tourists packed on the trails around these beautiful lakes! The trail right the campsite is gorgeous too.

I really liked staying here! I love that it is surrounded by an electric fence (makes me feel safer). The spots are tough to squeeze two cars into. And the construction happening all around the Lake Louise area is kind of a bummer. Word of the wise, they are raaaaaally strict on you leaving anything out while you re away. If you do it twice you ll receive a fine. All in all though, we enjoyed our stay!

We pulled up hoping they might have an opening during Peak Season, and they did! We were very pleased, and we pulled into our spot which was right next to the bathrooms (which was actually very nice as we were close to the wash station and the garbage bins, and it did not smell at all) and then left for a days adventure up at Lake Louise. We drove to the Lake and waited for a parking spot (only took 5 minutes). We then went back to the campsite and noticed someone had taken our towels that we left hanging to dry. I went to take a shower and there was a massive line, and the water was FREEZING! I hopped in and out really quick. When I got back to the site my boyfriend informed me that a nice man had taken our towels thinking we had abandoned them and then brought them back to us (after he used them to wash dishes). We had dinner, had easy access to the washing station (which had a line), and my boyfriend went to take a shower later (he had hot water of course). We would stay here again, and we did not hear the trains at all (I sleep very lightly and I did not hear one, but maybe we were lucky that night).

If you enjoy being woken up every few hours all throughout the night by trains rolling through and not being able to have a campfire, this is the place for you. If not, there are SO many other nearby campsites that put you close to the lakes without all the hassle and BS. Very much NOT recommended.

Asked and paid for a full hookup site.

But when we got to our spot...only electrical hookup. No water or sewer.

Washroom closest to us was out of order and appeared to have been that way for quite some time.

Showers were a kilometer away. And too few stalls for size of the campground. Always busy!

Our sight was so unlevel that our leveling jacks could not correct and failed because of excess slope !

And right next (100m away) to a busy 24 hour train track which sounded their horn 4 times when passing and there were 4 trains per hour - 24 hours a day!

Would NOT STAY HERE AGAIN!

Would NOT RECOMMEND IT!

Could live with 1or 2 negatives but the constant train horn was unbearable !

unluckily the only campground in winter. they charged me the price of a camp site with electricity altough I didn't use any! never again!!! I rather drive to banff than staying here again in winter

This campground is a big one. We lived in the J section, and it was very far away from the shower room. The washroom was nearby, but not very clean. It was extremely cold the night I spent here right before the Canada Day. Please keep yourself warm at night.
Each camping site was fairly small compared to what other provincial park provides. The picnic table was movable. Otherwise, it would be very tight to fit in an 8-people tent.

Smell was a little off putting, they need another shower house, but other than that it was a very relaxing stay and the shuttle pick up and drop off for the campground was very convenient! Glad I chose to stay here!

It's good for the location and easy to find the only thing no hot or worm water if you want to Wash your face in the morning at site B and the washroom need little bit cleaning, at the end is beautiful campground and nice staff.

Been to Lake Louise many times and it is starting to show its age. The dump station had no potable water so there was a RV traffic jam at the shower station much of the time. Not the best situation.

The sites are dual sites, built before the larger units with slides galore so if you r the second unit in , it can be a squeeze. Late time big unit arrivals not recommended if you cannot see well in the dark. The turns are tight.

You definitely need to like trains to stay there (I do). The trains blow the horns in a large part to warn the bears who often frequent the tracks looking for spilt grain.

Folks need to remember that this is a national park and preservation of wildlife is a critical component of park management.

If quiet is priority 1, best consider staying in Banff.

Large campsite for tents and campers. Spacious places. Convenient to reserve here in advance because of the nearby Lake Louise, which attracts many people.
PS. Tents are fenced with a fence with electricity on them to scare off bears, no Wi-Fi.

A huge camper place, where there are always two parking spaces without air in between, then a few trees and the same one from the front. For the trees, the toilets and friendly staff there's the star. For the smelly, old SaniDump, the noisy trains that blow their horns right on the square (you're in bed! And we've been extra further away from the railroad tracks on the river) and drive until at least midnight, and the lack of privacy and showers only on the At the beginning of the campground (you need a car from the other end!) There's the star deduction. Unfortunately there are hardly any alternatives, especially for the preseason.

You have 2 rvs in one campsite, like sardines without oil, only electricity no water, only one shower for the whole campsite and and it could be a 1/2 mile away from your campsite ( not good) also for campers who don t have water or bathrooms in their trailers they have to wash their dishes in the sinks at the bathrooms ( which you aren t supposed to do) but cause there are no water faucets available in the RV and trailer section that s what they have to do.. this campground needs faucets for campers to do their dishes and more shower facilities .. not coming back .. it was woodsey but cramped

When staying at the Lake Louise campground, there ...

When staying at the Lake Louise campground, there are 2 parts to it: one for RV s (or hard sided trailers) and one for tents. We stayed in the one for RVs so that is what this review is based on.

Overall nice campground but I m giving it only a 3 star review for the following 3 reasons. Firstly, most of the sites are double sites so they are shared with other RVs. Secondly, none of the sites are full hook up. Power only but some do have fire pits. Finally, and this is the most annoying part, it is extremely close to the train track and the train goes all the time. Day and night and it constantly blows its horn. Woke me up ever time.

The proximity to the village is good but it was still 5 km or so from Lake Louise itself, all uphill. So, one has to drive and here s the kicker, there is limited parking at the lake. What they don t tell you is that when you drive up, if parking is full, they loop you all the way back down to the TransCanada 1 highway and you have to park in overflow parking and take a shuttle up. It s free of charge but the whole process can take up to 45 minutes. It would make more sense at the entrance to the village to have signs saying parking full and re-route you at that point rather than making you drive all the way up and then all the way back down. So get there early, and I would say in peak season, by at least 8:30 am.

All in all, stay in Banff and day trip it to Lake Louise for the sheer fact of the trains going by at all hours of the day and night blowing their horns.

Wow, I did not expect this place to be as busy as it was! Book your campsite ahead of time. Really good amenities for a campground; shower, bathrooms, washout sinks and a little hangout cabin. Yes, the train is loud during the day, but maybe it was just the night that we were there but I didn't hear the train again until 9ish the next morning. The train also just rolls by, it didn't blow its horn or anything. The unfortunate part is the place is a tourist trap and they make it really difficult to not have to take a shuttle in to see the lake. We got so frustrated with the crowds and parking that we just bailed on it and went and saw some of the other beautiful glacier lakes. We will check it out next time we are up since we now know what to expect.

Nice campground. Depending on your location you'll hear the train which can be annoying.
Fire permit is 8.8 CAD per day but it's worth it.
We've been there twice and the last time was a not that satisfying. Nearby showers where closed so we had to take the car to get to the only showers available at the whole camp site. First visit was more convenient.
If you leave early they refund the fee.

Great location, central to Lake Louise village. Hot showers, restrooms could use more hooks for towels, bags, etc. Train runs day and night, sounding horn, might be a problem for light sleepers.

Based on the so-so reviews, we were worried. Well it turns out that we preferred LL campground (tent side) to others we visited during our trip (e.g. Two Jack Lakeside). Even the whole train thing is not such a big deal; if you are worried, spend 50 cents on some earplugs!

PROS
- Good location to visit the area (e.g. to wake up at 5am and drive to the Moraine Lake parking lot... yikes)
- Nice, big, shaded campsites. We were on site J4, which was great: very private, close enough to the bathroom, quiet. Only caveat was that it was a bit of a walk to the shower building.
- Good rangers' talks
- Renovated shower building, very clean

CONS
- For very light sleepers, the trains could be bothersome. But use earplugs or do like us and get a site as far away from the tracks as possible. None of us ever got woken up by the train.
- Not enough dishwashing sinks
- There could be a pretty long line at the ladies' showers

Campsite is decent but it could use more washroom and shower facilities. The tent area is surrounded by electric fence due to the abundant wildlife nearby. The big downsite is the close proximity to the rail tracks and the trains would pass through frequently even at night. So prepare some earplugs to get a better sleep.

This was one of the worst campgrounds that I've ever camped in. Very crowded, no privacy, and the train noise furing night and day was horrible. It was more like sleeping under the bridge ...!

I'm really sad and disappointed to write this bad review especially this year of Canada's 150th birthday. I'm on a bicycle tour so cyclist and hikers be prepared!
The staff at the entrance was unfriendly and they are sending you away late in the evening. There is NO! walk in campsite like in Jasper so you have to reserve, even though there is no spot available during the whole summer and as a cyclist or hiker you cannot plan so long in advance. There is no other option in Lake Louise that this or the expensive Hostel. They barely get any cancellation and people are not showing up. There were empty campsites and people can check in all night. So don't believe to get any of those empty spots after a certain time.

Sending cyclists or hiker away is great Banff Nationalpark! Where should we go? Better think of what you are there for. People experiencing nature. Who else does this better than hiker or cyclist? It's a disappointing experience and it looks like Banff Nationalpark just wants to make the best profit. Take a look at Jasper and make some walk ins available. Otherwise you will have more people staying overnight somewhere out of town. Or make sure that people with reservations are checking in till 10 pm or so and give the empty spots to those who need them.

Despite of this, the washrooms and showers need some updating. The showers were hot but old fashioned and your clothes get wet while taking the shower because the water just runs out of it. The campground itself was clean.

Great place. It's a full campground, it has everything you need. The only problem we had it was with the electricity. Because the only power source was near the showers and we weren't really close to them. It better to ask about it if you'd need it.

Excellent place to stay! Staff was very friendly. Nice shower(free) and bathroom facilities. Firewood (free)is also available to those sites with fire pits. Convenient location to town with walking paths to and from.

We liked being so close to Lake Louise and the small town but, as previous reviews say, the trains were just to much.
Clean bathrooms - clean sites - you do share a driveway with another camper but don't have to face each other - $32 for electric sites with no extra frills.
I know they can't help the train noise just want others to know.
Not sure if I'd stay again.

A big campground which is busy, but it didn't bother too much. You have sanitary blocks with toilets, but showers are grouped at the outside. Not that close. We took car and left immediately after. Wood for fires is available, but not stored on dry location.

The surroundings are beautiful, but that s a given since you re in a national park.

We re not usually worried about wildlife, but the electric fence surrounding the tent part of the campground gives some nice peace of mind. The spots are fairly well spaced out, and the facilities are top-notch (again, not surprising as you re in a campground run by the federal government). Our only complaint is that the trains, which are less than a kilometre from the campground can be loud enough at times to interrupt conversations and wake you up in the night.
