This is a Marriott flagged hotel located at 1077 Ashford Ave, San Juan, 00907, Puerto Rico. Its in the Coronado Beach section of San Juan. We were there for a short (four day) vacation.

We made the reservation shortly before the recent earthquakes in Puerto Rico. If we hadn't made the reservation we might not have gone to Puerto Rico. However, the earthquakes were on the other side of the Island and we saw no damage from it either in the hotel itself or the surrounding properties .

I loved the hotel. There are several pools, some designated for adults and some families. You are right next to a beach that is not very large but is certainly sufficient. Each day we were there, the tides were really strong and there were red flags out that indicate swimming is not permitted. Some people (myself included) did go in but never very far. I don't know if this is typical or we just were unlucky. Also be aware, there are no lifeguards either at the beach or the pool.

The hotel seemed to have lots of college kids on the weekend and was kind of loud and crazy in the lobby. However most of the time it was more sedate and seemed to have a nice, friendly, diverse clientele. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

There are several restaurants at the hotel. As you would expect of an upscale resort hotel the restaurants are on the expensive side. There are many reasonably priced restaurants on Ashford Avenue and the streets near there . We ended up eating one meal in the hotel and the others in the restaurants nearby. There is also a CVS nearby as well as reasonably priced souvenir shops We felt safe walking around after dark.

There is a casino at the hotel but its small and not too lively. There is a larger fancier casino in the other Marriott Hotel a short distance down Ashford Avenue.

In summary we loved the hotel. It was fancy but not overly formal . We definitely might come there again

Standing 15 minutes trying to check in behind one person at the elite desk. In the meantime 10-15 people have been helped on the other line. Forget about status at this hotel. It's worthless.

La Concha was the best hotel I've ever stayed in! Plush, beyond friendly, and ready to help in every way. It was a crowning event of our ten day anniversary vacation in Puerto Rico. Every worker greeted us every time they saw us, even if it was across the atrium on the other side from our room. I had a close call with the ocean and jetty rocks that left some scratches on my body, but no bruises or broken bones. The Assistant Manager, Jose Sterling, heard about it and came out on the beach to check me out and administer first aid. Three other times during the day he looked for me to be sure I was alright. I received a hand written note expressing gratitude that I was not injured worse for my experience from the "La Concha Family." Mr. Sterling invited my wife and I to a complementary meal the next evening. We thankfully splurged on the menu with appetizers as well as desert! I can't say enough good about the staff and facilities. We would love to return in the future (May 11-12, 2015). Excellent location.

Our stay at the hotel was good. However upon checkout there was a $270 charge on our room from La Perla restaurant, which is attached to the hotel. This charge was not authorized by me or anyone in my room as we never went to the restaurant. Unfortunatley it seemed someone charged our room. We disputed the charge at checkout and were told my credit card would not be charged. The following day my credit card was charged $270. I called the hotel multiple times and left voicemails as well as wrote emails with no reply. My credit card company tried to contact the hotel and they were unresponsive. So I had no choice but to declare fraud. I've never had a bad experience at a Marriott prior and found other reviews online of people also experiencing unauthroized charges on their rooms at La Concha Hotel. The hotel is great to stay at but the fact that management on all levels was unresponsive, even to a credit card company, leaves me wondering how many other people they are scamming and taken advantage of.

Very very loud construction noise right across the street. The first problem was that there is a nightclub right across the street playing loud music until 2am. The second problem was the construction noise starting around 7am. I was even on the 10th floor but there is some sort of echo effect in this building. I just think people should be warned about this.

I would rate this lower if given the option.

The hotel was extremely clean and well maintained. The overall ambiance was well decorated and located in a nice area. However, the pool staff was very rude and stated that "we did not belong," "they need to keep bad people out of the hotel" and implied that I was a local and did not have capability to afford such a "luxury" hotel. This was not only disheartening but it continued throughout the my four day stay. After providing my ID, room key and proof of stay, the pool staff continued to downgrade and belittle me. I alerted the front desk supervisor who informed me that the pool staff was "contract employees" and he repeatedly apologized for my experience. He even granted a $150 credit for our troubles. However, this continued and by the end of my stay, the $150 wasn't merely enough to make up for the horrible customer service I experienced nor lack of responsibility from La Concha. The contract employees keep a list of all guest at the hotel and when approached, you are to tell them your last name and room number. However, the list was NEVER updated during the duration of my stay.

We left the hotel on 5/1, and 3 days later I received an alert on my credit statement informing me that La Concha has now overcharged me by double the room amount. I have called regarding this and every time I am given the same response, "we're sorry but our computers are down, please call back."

I would highly recommend caution before staying at this resort. I typically frequent the Ritz and or Hilton but after hearing reviews from La Concha I decided to try this resort. This was a MISTAKE!

Overall we had a really great stay at La Concha. We were here for four nights over a holiday period, so it was very busy, but the staff was attentive and did a great job.

Pros-
- they accept Marriott Suite Night Awards if space is available, which a lot of resorts don t.
- adult only pool
- the amenities offered were actually useable and beneficial to have (towel service, chairs on the beach, bottle service, bikes on property, free club entrance)
- the food on site was phenomenal. We had many great meals.
- the view from the hotel was incredible.
- rooms clean, spacious suite, and balcony
- the resort was authentic; compared to the Marriott Resort down the beach, I think I only saw the Marriott logo once at La Concha.

Cons-
- 18% resort fee is too steep in my opinion.
- as with any resort, the drink/food is way overpriced.
- the rooms/property need a little TLC. Given, the island is still recovering from the hurricane, but having the lights flickering and ceiling falling apart in an operating elevator is unacceptable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will likely stay at La Concha again, especially because the beach was very nice, we could always get a seat on the beach, and it was a quick Uber drive around the island.
