Great spot for the kids. Be sure to bring extra clothes for when you get soaked on the water rides. If you are a pass holder, get the cup that gives you free refills all summer it is definitely worth it!

Went for free because my boyfriends parents got free tickets. Our pass for a meal, snack, entry, and parking and thank god it did. We went on a Saturday in late June so we expected to wait in a few lines. In the entire 7 1/2 hours we only got to ride 6 rides. It was packed and kings dominion is not prepared for the thousands of people. The rides were pretty fun but not worth the wait. The staff seemed like they would rather be anywhere else ( except that guy doing the alpine slide he was cool). The food was pretty terrible and so over priced it was in believable( $14 for a slice of pizza and breadstick?) Went to the gravity show and it was okay. The best part was looking at the crazy amount of overweight trash people who were there. Like what a museum. KD also tried selling stuff left and right, you can t walk 10 feet without passing a gift shop or game . The park was also really hard to navigate with the map and made no logistical sense. Bathrooms were nasty, people were half dressed because the water park is literally part of the park. 3/10( plus one for the fireworks on the way out) go to bush gardens instead or just stay home.
Kings Dominion will likely always be my fave amusement park due to growing up near it so it has many good memories even if I don t get to go very often anymore. Their ADA is good, though I m hoping for some changes post CoVID just to further work on making things better.
By far, my favorite event is the winter lights show. The park is mostly closed, but there s a couple of thrill rides, loads of lights, holiday food, cocoa with no artificial sweeteners (this is getting harder to find so worth mentioning for those like me who are allergic), and loads of festive fun. I would go every night for the winter holiday show if I could!!!
Thrill rides are top notch for those who love them, like me. For ADA, you go up the exit lane and get a signature on a piece of paper to come back in about 15 minutes. The problem with this is sometimes that s a long walk you end up doing multiple times and sometimes there s not seating, plus that s a lot of hands touching a piece of paper that is hard to keep track of if you are a woman with limited pockets (not hardly Cedar Fair Parks fault but something to be aware of...). You can only have one wait at a time which is fair enough. This is one of the better parks for ADA that I ve been to, with limited hassle/good respect when getting your ADA paperwork which I appreciate.
I love the shows as someone with an extensive background in performing arts, so if you are a shows person this can be a lot of fun, especially since there s different seasonal shows, too.
Growing up everything was more Hannah Barbara themed but now it is currently Peanuts. Kids will love the peanuts themed kid area a lot!
Winter fest is fantastic, (cold) outstanding lights and decorations! Ice skating and machines to blow light snow effect. But the best was the dance show on Snoopy stage with holiday skit dancers with Santa, and the Crepes shop was fantastic for food they prepared outstanding. And their gracious maners & I loved the hot soup from a big pot. There were holiday dressed employees throughout that would stop and take their photo with you or family and their maners were so gracious! They definitely shared some welcome holiday cheer and come back spirit! Great job ya'all! We can't wait to come back for some more!
Rides we're mostly great but several of the food service areas were closed and the ones that were open had poor quality food. For the prices they make you pay for food in the park this was simply unacceptable.
THE LINESSSSSS I know it's something you have to be ready for at an amusement park but I believe with better coordination the lines can move faster. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. Everything else was good.
We have been coming to Kings Dominion for many years and in the last two years have seen a steady decline in the cleanliness of the park and it is heartbreaking. I know the bathrooms are used by many people (and people can be gross) but you should not have to hold your breath to get your business done. Also some of the rides are in need of paint and hopefully just cosmetic repair. The log flume ride had boards missing from the side and places where holes had sprung water and none of the water barrel shooters worked so you could get folks wet. It's just so sad to see a park that was once a great family place to turn in to the park it has become with ridiculously priced food, unclean bathrooms, and run down looking rides. Good luck Kings Dominion.
My family always seems to pick days that have incoming bad weather which means smaller crowds and lots of shopping time while it rains. We have a blast every time we come.
Expensive period. The kids liked it but be warned this is a money pit. Plan appropriately. Best to pack a lunch. Kids will want everything but will add up. Several rides were also additional money. It's already pricey to go to park but if you play any additional games will always be $5 . Trust me they also add up. It would be best to inform your kids of this prior to going to park. You can have fun but easily break budget here.
With KD you come for the large number of rides and concessuons available. There is plenty to do, and both kids and adults have lots of choices. Having been a patron since the 80s I have to wonder why KD can't seem to keep their water clean like other theme parks.
I had a fun time going here with my family. It's what you expect, a fun amusement park with rides for any age. They have a lovely new app that allows you to see the wait times of each ride and other cool tricks. Also you should always check if they have a deal going on online when you buy your tickets. It's better to pay a lower price for the same things.
Was only there for Winterfest and they pulled it off great. Only two coasters open though I would have liked to seen more coasters open. Overall great winterfest
Always a great park, but might be time to take down the "Grizzly" Usually I want a ride to end because it's fast, but I'm having a great time. I wanted Grizzly to end because it physically hurt. Most others on the rode agreed it was just a painful experience that left riders unable to enjoy the thrill of the ride itself
I lived in VA for many years but this was my first time going to Kings Dominion. I went with family and friends during labor day weekend, and because of a storm threat the park was very empty at first. We got a chance to ride most of the rides without a long line. The Intimidator is my favorite, I must admit I was a bit intimidated from the stories of people blacking out. Either way is was conquered and I can't wait to go again, the volcano, and even the indoor alien rides were great too. The boardwalk fries were yummy.
Great fun! No long waiting lines during the week. My kids and I were able to do everything before 8pm even came around. Great food pass option. I was able to keep feeding my teens all day for a cheap on flat price paid once.
Fun place to go with the family. Like all other theme/amusement parks I've been to the concessions are waaay over priced! People walking around with their pants down to their knees and you call this a kids place? Other than that a great place to have good fun. The Holloween season is great time to visit. They really do a great job.
We love This place! We have gone here for as long as I can remember. Every year we get seasons passes. I love how it has everything in one park. The little kids ride the water park and all the shows it s always a great time. I am so sad they took out the dinosaurs. I love how you can get season passes on a payment plan for a family of 7 it s great because we can actually afford passes. We love the Halloween stuff and the Christmas was beautiful this year!
The only thing I wish they did was when you buy the refill cups I wish they could attach it to your pass because every year someone steals our cups!
Went today for the first time in years. I was really surprised. I wasn't sure what state it would be in, but it's much nicer than the last time I went. Most of the staff seem like miserable robots, but we came across several that were awesome.
The rides are great. Like the kind "coaster enthusiasts" come check out. They need to retire the Grizzly and the Rebel Yell (now called Racer 75). They are so rough it's hard to pay attention to the ride itself. I rode the Grizzly with my daughter and I had to hold her the whole time to keep her from just getting slung around.
Of course, concessions are expensive, but the free refill cup ended up being totally worth it. I noticed there's also a Subway and a chik-fil-a on premises now. So I imagine they're probably a good way to avoid the $9 hot dog.
I'm looking forward to going again soon. We had a great time.
Such a great park! The day we went the coasters were only running one train, so we were only able to get on like 3 rides because each coaster had minimum an hour wait. The coaster we wanted to ride the most was nearly 3hrs! But we were there for halloween and it was great. Definitely a summer visit.
I very much disliked the park during Winter wonderland due to the fact that the workers walking around were rude and had a problem with me taking a picture with them and my son. I should have gone to Bush Gardens .
Employees at the rides don't know what to do if you use the disabled entrance. Making it stressful when you are told your next and they changed their mind to give you a wait time when you already waited 30 minutes.
Had a great time here, even with the pouring down rain for at least half of the visit! Bad weather meant the park was nearly empty, so lines were non-existent! Bad part was that because of the bad weather we missed out on the majority of the rides. Still a great experience! The staff that we encountered were all friendly and welcoming. The gift shops were all really nice with an excellent variety of items at different price points to suit every budget. There is a huge variety of restaurants within the park as well, which is great for picky eaters. The admission and parking prices were very reasonable. I will definitely come back here again, hopefully on a day with better weather!!
Definitely a must-see if you're ever in the area. But never go on a humid day because it is really hard to get around dripping with sweat but definitely a five-star establishment and recommend it to anyone who goes in this area
I love Kings Dominion, a little upset they got rid of the Nickelodeon characters and people in costumes. However they still put on good shows. Also don't like the new rules of having too put things in a locker to ride twisted timbers it's a cool ride, but feels like it might just be a money grab.
Great time! Our 3rd visit. Prices are reasonable. Your lunch or dinner will cost 10-15$ on average. But servings are generous and food options are abundant. It s a nice Amusement Park.. stick to your local carnival if you expect a $5 lunch. The all day dining is the way to go if spending the whole day. Definitely opt for the refillable cup option. Well worth the $13. Park is clean and all rides were up and running. Went on a Thursday and never waited for rides. See you next year!
Many fun rides. Sad to see some of the older coasters are not kept up, or gone altogether. But still had a fantastic time. Customer service was really awesome. Everyone was so nice and happy. Also, unfortunately, one of their wave pools is gone, as it formed a crack in its foundation. But really, the only true complaint I have is about the changing rooms in Soak City. They were disgusting. I used to swim competitively, then on to teaching swimming, then lifeguarding. So, countless pools and changing rooms for about 20 years. Never been in one as disgusting as theirs. Please, douse your changing rooms in bleach, King's Dominion staff!!!
The holiday park celebration at Kings Dominion is spectacular. There are so many lights, and music throughout the park. That combined with the snow machines makes it feel like a winter wonderland. The rides are available to ride and there are plenty of shows to see. They also bring on special food vendors and have VIP treatment options during this time of year.
I have been going to Kings Dominion since I was little and love it every time! I have taken my best friend who had never been there before a while back and I took my new boyfriend who had never been there this year for the Halloween Haunt event. We had a BLAST! He got us season passes for 2016!
Only complaints are: super long lines. We waited for 4 hours to ride the VOLCANO. It was worth it but that's not a new coaster so it should not be that kind of wait. A couple of summers ago my daughter and I rode the DOMINATOR and we didn't have much of a wait at all and that was a new coaster.
Second the food, drinks and the items to buy in the shops and additional games or whatnot are way to expensive after what it costs to get there, park and admission. They could lower those prices just a little...
Lastly for the HAUNT event there was so much smoke that you couldn't see or breathe or anything. Also you could buy a glowing pumpkin if you preferred not to be "spooked" which we both bought and we were supposed to be left alone and some of the employees doing the HAUNT didn't even pay attention and did it anyway. That wasn't cool. We paid to stay until it closed at midnight but the smoke was so thick and we couldn't see anything and kept getting turned around so bad we only rode 2 rides after they did that and we gave up and left at like 8pm and went on to the hotel. So that was a waste of the extra money to be there until midnight and it was non refundable.
Awesome place with a good feel. Went during Halloween season special and was surprised by the atmosphere as it was super good. Will definitely recommend this place to everyone. Will come back next Halloween for sure.
