That Reuben tho... so worth the hype. Wait was not long in the late evening and the food prepared to order, quickly. There is plenty of seating in the homey dining area.
Long wait at times. Meat portions was beyond normal. They give samples from the slab of meat to make sure you are okay with it. Pastrami was amazing. Corn beef was good as well.
Each bite is a taste of New York history and a celebration of how immigrants have made (and continue to make) this country. 130 years of being unabashedly New York City.
I go to Katz's for the pastrami, for the hot dogs, for the fries, and for the Dr. brown's Cel-Ray soda. I'm sure the rest of the food is good, but for over 50 years I eat A Pastrami on rye, fries ( or sometimes potato salad), a hot dog and a soda.Katz's cn not be compared to anywhere else. it's a one of a kind deli!
Truly amazing. This has been the first food place I've been to whether there for has exceeded my expectations. I've been meaning to go for over x6 years (didn't manage to go over my last two trips to nyc). We arrived early to beat the crowds, and ordered x1 pastrami and x1 salt beef, both on rye. Take my advice, as good as the salt beef is..forget it, forego it for two pastrami. Honestly, one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. Transcendent, juicy, fatty, spicy. The best sandwich I've had in my life!
Food is great. Prices are exorbitant. Service was great at the table. What's up with the $50 fine for lost ticket? Curious if they really enforce it. I guess you go to Katz's once and cross it off the bucket list.
Along with the Second Avenue Deli, Katz's dominates the New York Jewish deli scene. The formula at Katz's is slightly different, providing diners with tickets that facilitate counter ordering (there is still plenty of tabletop seating). In the end, the products are equally delicious and you can't go wrong with either. The pastrami on rye will melt your brain and bring you back to the 1880s when Katz's first opened. Prices, of course, are solidly in the 21st century -- but well worth it for the best (along with 2nd Ave) pastrami in NYC. Get yourself a cream soda and a square knish and you're back in Old New York.
Sandwiches are amazing. It gets quite busy at times but it is worth the waiting. Service could be a bit nicer, but I get that people are overloaded with customers.
Kate's is a NYC Landmark, sandwiches too big to get in your mouth with an average cost of $20, a little high but considering there is more than a pound of meat worth it. Can be extremely crowded on weekends and around the Holidays especially at lunch time.
Classic old Jewish deli that you should do when you visit New York at least once. Service is good atmosphere is old school, aged and a bit hectic, but in keeping with that style of Deli. Sandwiches are super pastrami on rye is exactly how it should be, they really pile on the meat. Even my two teenage Sons couldn't finish their sandwiches.
I never heard of this place until I had a Postmates delivery pick-up here. Love the setting and love the history. Though I haven't dined here yet, from what I see, it looks like a highly reputable spot.
Wow, all the good things you read about Katz's are actually true. It's not over-hyped like so many other "iconic" New York spots. The pastrami is to die for. It's not cheap at $25 a sandwich. Bring cash.
Amazing as always!!! If you're visiting NY make sure you make your way to Katz's! Great service, great food and great pictures on the walls of the people who have visited Katz's through the years.
The food is good, but the security is suffocating to the point that the atmosphere is not a welcome one. if you're looking for a friendly neighborhood experience, go to Sammy's or Russ and Daughters. Their food is good AND they know how to treat their customers.
They food is on point and they sandwich is finger licking good ...I mean good I had two pastrami sandwiches with Pickles on the side....it's worth the money everything is fresh
As a historical spot this is definitely worth going to once. The hot pastrami is their specialty and they slice it fresh and make it everyday. Once of the best hot pastrami sandwiches you will have. Nothing fancy. You get to stand a counter while the sandwich maker makes it in front of you while you get to sample a small amount of the meat. Definitely worth going once. There can be a long line at times but it moves fast. Credit card accepted at end of line. Quite pricey for a $20 sandwich but you can taste the quality and easily can be split in 2 but can be finished on a hungry appetite especially goes well with a cold beer.
Excellent pastrami sandwich. The meat was so tender & melted in your mouth. Lightly smoky flavour which was amazing! Came here at 11am and there was plenty of space. Had their half sandwich & Matzo ball which was a real experience!
I finally did it, and I wasn't shocked. More than $30 for a pastrami sandwich with a side of slaw and a club soda. Tasted mediocre, and there was way too much meat on the sandwich. Just my take as someone who wanted a tasty sandwich and not a tourist experience. I was not impressed. Better local options abound.
We decided to stop there and have a bite to eat for an early lunch. The line is always pretty long but we went on an off time so it was only about 10 minutes for us. The wait was worth it. I had the best pastrami sandwich I have ever had in my life here. The meat was perfectly juicy and the bread was phenomenal. While you are waiting in line to order, you can watch all of the employees cutting the meats and preparing the sandwiches. One thing to note about Katz, is that the sandwiches are absolutely humongous. It's a struggle to eat the entire sandwich by yourself, so if you are somebody that likes smaller portions, ask for a to go box. The service was okay, pretty typical of what you would get at a New York restaurant and you might get the New York attitude. You order in line and just pick a seat after you order, so there are no waiters or waitresses serving you. We personally liked this because it seemed to speed the entire process up and the line moved faster than we thought it would. All in all, Katz is a classic NYC staple and a must visit for first time NYC visitors.
Katz's Deli has been around from ages, so long you might remember it from "When Harry Met Sally". If not there is a sign to remind you. Besides that they have some of the most killer pastrami sandwiches known to man.
They are pricey and lines can get long but its worth the price of admission. Also to pay that admission is CASH ONLY so hit the ATM before you go.
I can see why people love this spot, but it's a bit over the top for my tastes. Check it out once though, because it's just a fun and energetic place! But if you're looking for a place to get a reliable lunch in Manhattan, this is going to take too long and fall a little short of perfection. Still worth a visit and the meats are quality, you'll enjoy it, but the mystique wears off quickly.
It's a classic! You have to go here if you are visiting NYC. Typical New York deli style food with real New Yorkers. The Rueben is a good one, sauerkraut you have to have and pickles. The place is also famous for the "When Harry Met Sally" orgasm scene. :p
If you are into old school European deli, this is the place! This is everybody's fave deli spot. What's so fun here is eating anything and all your orders are being written down in your ticket(this is given at the entrance (DONT LOSE IT because you can't leave without it!). And the staff will charge you based on what's written on your ticket.
The food here is exceptional! Best ever is the Pastrami! You have to try it when you visit this spot.
Absolutely incredible. I tried three sandwiches here, and they were all delicious, the meat is truly top notch. The environment is chaotic but unique, you get a ticket upon entering and everything you order gets added to the ticket for checkout at the end. They have a few beer and wine options to go with your food, and deli meat to go.
It is very pricy, but definitely worth it. I highly recommend the pastrami.
. Yummy deli. Absolutely an awesome New York City experience. Service may not be the best part of the meal although it is authentic. Pastrami is to die for. And the latkes aren't bad. Go for the deli and stay for the experience.
Ordered the Rueben and oh my goodness, what a feast for the senses. Tender meat topped with gorgeous melted cheese and a sauce that I would kill to buy.
They offer beer on tap if you fancy a drink and the Katz lemon tea is so good.
One word of advice. The place is hectic at lunch time so trying to get in before lunch or after would be a good idea if you don't want to wait in huge queues. At 11am it was easy to walk right in and grab a table
I am totally over being served by arrogant unsmiling males who behave as though they're doing you a favour by preparing a rather ordinary tasting but overpriced sandwich. The table staff were pleasant and the 3 stars are for them.
The food was decent, but better at other Delis. It was an hour long wait to get food - not even close to worth it. More of a tourist trap than anything else. I'd say go elsewhere if you're not interested in seeing where Harry Met Sally.
Authentic old school NYC joint! Cornbeef piled on fresh rye. Fresh pickles. Community seating and counter service is fastest. Wait service was about an hour wait.
Absolutely superb! When I saw the prices I thought it was a madness but after eat a pastrami sandwich I knew it was totally worthy of. This is THE PLACE to eat pastrami.
Excellent pastrami!! It was the best I have ever had. Very traditional sandwiches (Ruben, pastrami, etc). Can't go wrong with whatever your choice is. Also you can pick up large quantities and take them home.
This is a tradition. It super popular so you'll wait outside and down the block during the day or a short line inside at night. Meats are high quality. Not a cheap place but a sandwich will be very filling. Only thing I'd prefer is they start toasting the bread
Go for the Reuben!! The pastrami is great. A lot of hustle bustle happening in this beautiful restaurant. Classic well managed restaurant with delicious food. Dont miss it
Fantastic Deli. You can also chose toppings for your sandwich. Coffee and other drinks are available as well!
Don't get fooled by the long line. The wait is usually shot but there may be limited seatings. It is so crowded inside so be assertive about your place so you don't get cut off by some jerks.
Wow! This place is like something out of a tv show. The place is ridiculously busy BUT they are super fast in serving people so it didn t matter. You get a number and then are dealing 1:1 with a deli guy and the portions they serve up are out of this world. Their pea soup too is fantastic. It is loud there, busy, and fast paced, but it s all part of the experience.
The food here is always amazing! Pastrami on rye with mustard will put most other sandwiches to shame. This is an NYC landmark so the lines are a bit rough, but why're open late so go have a bite after dark. Oh, and don't forget the extra pickles!
I always eat too much when I come to Katz's. Got to have one of those huge pastrami on rye with a lot of deli mustard. Potato knish and one of those crunchy skined hotdogs with sauerkraut. I spend a lot of money here but boy is it worth it.
retro, schmetro katz's hasn't even changed its signs for 40 years! but the food is freshly made and absolutely the best pastrami in the us. waiters are a hoot, and hyper-efficient.
Iconic place in New York city. Famous for their mountain high pastrami sandwich (and also for a particular scene in "when Harry met Sally"). They have a cutting station where u meet the guy who's making your sandwich. While engaging in a small conversation,he will also give you tasting of the meat. I was lucky enough to sit on the same exact table where the movie scene was shot..Everything tasted so good..The pastrami was amazing. It was fun to look at the pictures of whoever famous ate there. My only problem is the staff that works there (aside from the cutters) they are rude and expect you to eat and leave right away..They literally came to my table right after I finished chewing my last piece asking me if I was ready to leave. But based only on the food, this place deserve all the success they are having. P.s don't lose the ticket they give when u enter or you will pay a pricey fee (I believe $50)
Got the roast beef, not bad. Pastrami is where it's at. They are open super last night. Almost $20 for a sandwich is pretty steep though, in my opinion. Yes, they are huge, but that's an expensive sandwich.
Really busy but that was expected. All a bit manic and chaotic. There was no queue when we went in but when we came out it was all the along the block. Find a table fitst then study the menu. You are given a ticket on the way in. Find a table Decide on what you want to eat. Queue up behind a server number and give your order. The server then may give you taster of what is ordered. Server prepares your order and writes it on your ticket.Enjoy your meal and pay at the booth on the way out. Remember to hand all the tickets given to your party or there will be a payment required. The food was great and we shared one order between us. There was ample. It was a little more pricey than other places around town but I think you pay for the name and atmosphere. Glad we did it.
We were there a few weeks ago and I don't know what's was wrong, we thought the place was sold the food was terrible even the pickles were missing. The meat (pastrami) was not juicy and flavorful it was really bad. We won't be going back anytime soon unfortunately. When you pay on the high end you expect to get good quality food but this trip that didn't happen.
