This place was shown to us while on our way to a food a d culture tour of Brooklyn. My wife and I came back the next evening to try it out.
More than anything, the experience was very fun and unique. The line was out the door, which is usually a good sign!
The food was good. We shared the pastrami sandwich on rye. I would have given it five stars, but nyc or not, $24 for a sandwich is expensive!
Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

This is THE BEST DELI in all of NYC. They do all the deli meats aged incredibly over much longer than normal times. U need to keep your paper ticket throughout. But no matter what, the wait is worth it!

The best sandwiches ever. Although each sandwich will cost you roughly $20, they are huge and well worth it. I got a corned beef and brisket combo with cheese and it was heaven between two slices of bread. It doesn't get 5 stars because initially ordering was very confusing - there were hundreds of people in the store and no one explaining the system of how and what to order.

This place is amazing, the food is beyond incredible. The hot pastrami sandwich was so delicious, I would even say it was moderately priced at $15 a sandwich considering how tasty it was. The service was pretty good by New York's standards. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. I'm not in New York often, but I know every time I'm in the area I will definitely stop at Katz. Strongly recommend this restaurant.

The place is legendary for a reason. I tried their most popular pastrami sandwhich and it was the best sandwhich that I ate in my US trip. Probably the best meat also.
The place is full of people probably all the time, but it's not a problem because there are so many cashiers(cutters) and a large seating area. They also give you some delicious pickles on the side.
If you are not so hungry, you can order half or share half of your sandwhich with your friend.

I had heard of this place before coming to NY, but wasn't sure if I wanted to go since it was located bit far for me. I'm so satisfied that I went there after all. Definetly worth of going!

We had about a 15 minute wait to be seated but it was well worth it, the flavours of the meats they make has to be tasted to be believed. We tried many of the menu items and they were all very large servings and tasted amazing. The place was always busy, very busy but there were ample staff behind the counter and wait staff for the tables and nobody was neglected. There s great memorabilia on the walls too. It was a great experience and well worth the trip

Great experience! Not only the pastrami sandwiches are awesome. The complete place is amazing. Ok, it s crowded almost every time. But you don t have to wait very long. Don t lose the voucher you get at the entrance
It s authentic and honest. And Harry and Sally is definitely the last thing you ll think about. Enjoy your time at the Katz.

If you don't know. I'm here to tell you great famous NY Deli where the locals and celebs all go. Grab you ticket, go to a cutter and pick you pleasure. The food is the best I have meat being shipped to my house in Denver. Must go if your in Manhattan.....and don't let the line turn you away because Nobody eats where Nobody eats.

I can not begin to describe how heartbroken I am from my last visit to Katz's. The atmosphere was chillingly dull and the service was not friendly or welcoming at all. It has lost all of it's charm, turning into some cartel run tourist trap. Thankfully the meat is still tasty, but for the value, I'd say go to any other deli in the city and you won't be as disappointed. The only thing still Jewish in this deli is the rye bread.

I've been making frequent visits here w/ family, friends, co-workers, but mostly on my own. The foods nothing short of amazing. Make sure to pop in & grab a pastrami sandwich if you have yet and enjoy.

First time I was here it was for the experience. Second time was for the food. This place is fkn delicious. It s not a tourist trap. It is a THIRST TRAP . You ll be back.
Get a reuben. Get extra pickles. Get some matzo ball soup. Don t let the scary deli guys intimidate you, they re sweeties! Enjoy this pic of me and my rubie.

I grew up in NY, but have lived in SC for the last few decades. Every time I go back (most every year) I make sure to go to Katz's. If I don't have time to stop and eat there, I'll get a whole 5 or 6lb pastrami to take with me (and some knishes). The pastrami is so good, it'll make you weak in the knees at the first taste. If I can't get to NY, I'll have it shipped to me in SC. Yeah - it's that good!

Katz is one of those New York institutions that is often imitated but never duplicated. We were there on a Friday late morning. They were serving breakfast and lunch. You re given a ticket when you enter and you need to hold in to it so they can track what you order. The counter is intimidating and overwhelming for first timers. It s easy to find yourself waiting in the wrong line. They have a variety of typical deli fare. Sandwiches can be shared. Try the latkes! If you re really trying to get the full experience, order a Dr. Brown s Cel-Ray soda. Rating four stars because it is a bit overpriced for some items.

Hands down some of the best sandwhiched I've had. Some of the best beef too. My only gripe is the really high tourist price at $18-$22 per sandwhich on top of it being a cash only establishment.

The hot pastrami sandwich was amazing and a must try. The matzo ball soup and the chocolate egg cream were also tasty. The decor is great too. However it is an expensive sandwich but worth trying at least once.

Best Pastrami sandwich!! Don't expect a cheap sandwich, but the price is worth it - so much meat, so juicy. This place is all about expectations - an american deli with the best pastrami sandwich for a quite high price

Busy with tourists on a Saturday. Pastrami and corned beef was pretty good. Celery soda also very good, except for the HFCS. A little on the pricey side, but seemingly part of the NYC character.

Kosher style (not actually kosher) deli food that rocks! Can't get enough of this place.

If you go at the wrong time (if there ever is a wrong time) expect to wait for a while as the queue gets long especially if waiting to sit. But by Joe it's worth it!

Staff are friendly enough and the atmosphere is great. Sit and soak it all in.

Get the pastrami. Get the corn beef. Get a knish. Get a hot-dog. Get the french fries. There is literally not a single thing you CANNOT get that won't be amazing. It's the oldest deli in NYC for a reason.

This place is so overrated. Food was gross and had a funny smell to it. Very overpriced for a sandwich. As for the service, the workers looked like they didn t even want to be there. One time only place.

What can I say about Katz Delicatessen it is historical the meets are to die for you get the best of the best quality when it comes to the meat that they serve you never find any Delicatessen that can stand up to Katz. They give you large quantities of food which two people can or three people can eat off of one sandwich but trust me you're not going to want to share make them get their own

The pastrami is life-changing. Seriously, I now have a completely different expectation for how good pastrami can be.

Two of us split one sandwich and some cole slaw and it was still plenty of food. The cutter made the sandwich with a very generous portion of meat.

A fun experience and an exceptional sandwich.

Best corned beef on the planet! This place is so worth the wait. Once inside, you are given a ticket, and you get in one of the cutter lines. There, they slice your choice of meat and assemble your sandwich. The corned beef was fabulous. I will definitely go back next time I visit NYC!

It was like walking on set of a movie! The staff has so much personality you can't help but smile. Took my mom for the first time and sat at a table rather than counter service and she loved it she wants me to bring her back. Thank you to everyone there amazing team!

A true NYC landmark...order at the counter and get a little treat while you wait for some of the best cured meat you have ever had... Walls adorned with photos of well-known figures and the "When Harry Met Sally" table clearly marked, a fun and tasty visit....
