If you like giant pastrami sandwiches then you will be in heaven, however expect to pay around $20 for the experience. Advice would be to share a sandwich between 2 if you are not a big eater.

Best pastrami sandwich! Eating here is a must when visiting the city. You won't enjoy the service and the food as much if you get it to go. Check out all the classic pictures and vintage artifacts.

The line is long most of the time but it moves fast. Once you get in you have to wait in another line about 15-20 to place your order. They are famous for their pastrami sandwich today s price is $22.95 (Pastrami on rye) I always just eat half. The sandwich is big enough for 2 people. Enjoy the food and the experience...it s so New York

My family and I each ate a different sandwich and I d be hard pressed to pin down a favorite meat between the pastrami, corned beef, beef brisket, and roast beef...they were all amazing! I ordered the half Rueben (corned beef) and a matzo ball soup, and they were delicious!! We loved Katz s and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of eating there!

Upon entering Katz's, every patron receives a meal ticket. Everything you order gets marked on the ticket and you surrender the ticket when you leave to tally your total cost. They enforce a penalty for any lost tickets, so try your best to hold onto it. If you leave it on your food tray, there's a good chance it might be accidentally thrown out, so be careful! You can get table service where they will seat you, or you can choose to have self service where you will need to find your own table, or share with others. With a group of 6 or more people, it will probably be very difficult to find somewhere to sit all together. The food lines look pretty long, but surprisingly they move fairly quick. Everything was delicious, but definitely get the pastrami on rye.

The pastrami on Rye is the way to go. Don't get stuck in line when you first enter, there are lots of lines. Move past the first few and get into a shorter one. Sandwiches aren't cheap but you'll want to go back.

I once lived across the street from katzs
For 20 odd years I watched out of my bedroom the crowds frequenting this historic establishment. Is it worth it,are the sandwiches really mile high, wellyou have to be in it to win it so if you're in ny and you miss katzs you have missed a little slice of n.y.

Food was nice but all the staff there had attitudes, especially the the girls at the register. Cash only was really annoying, like what establishment doesn't take card these days? Very expensive considering what it is.

It was ok. I heard so much about it. Unfortunately, it does not live up to the hype. A bit pricy for a sandwich. I have been to delis elsewhere with better pastrami sandwiches for a much more reasonable price. You go for the name and for the location. I was not impressed.

I heard Katz's for my boss, she said that it's a good place where the sandwiches are the best. So, I tried and she was right. Pastrami sandwich is juicy and more than delicious, also I tried the hot dog, ufff excellent. But the fact hat I really liked more was that all the food is kosher. Recommended!!!

Pastrami was ok, I personally like Pastrami Queen more. Pastrami queen serves much softer pastrami that melts in your mouth, but its drier than Katz.

Reason I give it 2 stars is service. First, it has those stupid tickets with confusing writings of price. They tried to overcharge me because it was written very poorly in that ticket. There is no line, just a mob without any order. Employees are slow and have extremely unhappy expression on their faces in addition they act very unprofessional. And why the hell you wouldn't take credit cards in the middle of Manhattan?

There's a reason this place has been in business for 131 years! We flew into NYC on a Friday afternoon, dropped our luggage at the hotel and headed for Katz's. We got there about 2:00. The line was out the door, but not too bad. It went fast and was worth the wait. I ordered a full Pastrami Reuben (over the corned beef). The sandwich was huge! I could only eat half. And didn't order any sides. I recommend watching their video about how to visit and order. There are different lines. Next time, I will have my boyfriend get in the sandwich line and order just one sandwich to split. I will get in the sides line and try the fries. They looked yummy.

Katz was a beautiful chaotic scene of people which felt like it was straight out of movie. My son and i ate 2 hot dogs and grilled cheese because truthfully i was not prepared to pay 22.00 for a pastrami sandwich, which is whar i really wanted lol. The water was 2.95 which was i guess part of the experience but ibwas glad to visit this historic establishment.

What an institution. Don t wait for a table service table; go straight to the cutters and get the pastrami on rye. Enough for two adults. Heaven on a plate. Sit with strangers if the place is full. We only order that. It d be sacrilegious to do anything else but people do; go figure. If you must have dessert go up the street to Yonah Schimmel for a cherry cheese knish. The world changes but Katz endures.

The hard part was walking few extra city blocks towards east, in the cold! But it was worth! Katz's large dining place was very welcoming, colorful buzzing with customers enjoying the classic, long time known pastrami sandwiches. Service is very prompt either if you choose one of the many carving stations and then head to the table along the center of the room or if you choose to seat at the tables along the wall which have a full table service.
Pastrami was prepared to perfection which requires a lot of work of preparation (days) to achieve tenderness and flavour. Suggest to start sharing one pastrami sandwich before ordering more. Their size is generous for the average appetite.

I didn't like the food (had to wait 6 min for them to microwave my frozen spinach knish). The food (sandwiches) way over priced (corned beef was greasy & fatty). I got a better pastrami & corned beef sub upstate. If you are going for the experience, which is organized chaos, order the "hot dog", fries, and a drink, they were good.

Katz's is a great late night dining option. The sandwiches are made with great quality meat and are a NYC staple. Make sure you keep your ticket that you get when you arrive, you need to hand it back when you leave. Also great for take out!

I've been coming to Katz's for years. People whine that the sandwiches are smaller, the sandwiches are too expensive, they're not as good as they used to be...and that's their right to complain. But the complaints don't overrule the one essential truth you need to understand when you come here.

You're eating the singular best pastrami sandwich on the planet at Katz's Deli on Houston.

Pastrami Queen? Ha. Gottlieb's? It might be Kosher, but it ain't better. Liebman's? It'll do if you're in the Bronx. 2nd Avenue Deli? Not even close.

Juicy. Bursting with flavor. Peppery. Mustard in every bite. Hot, but not too hot. Just right.

It's gotta be Katz's. You come here, you get a nice sandwich on good rye bread, you pick up a plate of fries, you get your sweet and sour pickles, you crack open a cold cream soda, and that's all there is to it. Life does not get any better than it does at one of those tables. Preferably at 3 or 4AM.

So let them complain about the prices while they simultaneously frequent the hipster BBQ places that are causing the price increases. You're here for quality.

You'll get quality. Now eat.

I have been here 3-4 times since i came to united states. I haven t tried pastrami at other places, so i can say it is so delicious.

But i wanna give 2 stars because of the guy at the door. I didn t have issue with him, but a guy front of me when he entered to deli, this waitress was like hey don t lose your ticket!!! you will pay there, don t forget!!
he treated him as a child. And the way he said was not appropriate.

Thanks

Not as good as Montreal Smoked Meat from Schwartz or Smoked Keat Pete's; but still amazing! Just very "Get you in and get you out" and dont lose that ticket they give you! It's like $50 for losing it...

Katz's Deli, and their Pastrami sandwich (among other items) came highly recommended from numerous trusted sources. We grabbed a ride and headed there. While the "process" with the Yellow tickets were a bit confusing at first, any confusion was beaten down by the friendly and generous "Cutters". Not too mention the Pastrami is to die for! Unless you want to gain a few pounds, I highly recommend sharing the sandwich with your spouse. Or in my case, eat the whole thing!

Get their earlier, rather than later, to avoid the lines.

overrated. Why? the Dry Sandwhich. Bad service. Slow. Pastrami was good but More salty than normal. I prefer other places. It was a Big let down for a first visit. . Brisket was pretty good. More disappointed from my high expectations. Other delis in the past have had better food.

I went at 11 am on a weekday and there was no line. Very friendly and fast service. Don t forget to tip. The best pastrami sandwich ever. It s $$, but worth trying. The sandwich is huge and they give you a side of pickles with it. Yum.

You can always turn I pastrami on right into a hoagie and also for an additional charge add some quotes on to your sandwich. And, there is always deli mustard at the table, but if you want them to put it on your sandwich just ask them to schmear some mustard before they serve it to you. And, don't forget whether you eat something or not you always have to turn the yellow ticket back in so don't lose it or you pay to leave. I go here at least once a month or every other month, this is my ultimate favorite place to go to get pastrami; trust me the delis on the corner, huh they have nothing on Katz's Delicatessen. For all you LA people this is comparable to Langer's; but in my opinion as a California girl, I think Katz's is better than Langer's.

Not the worst Rueben I've ever had, but definitely not the best by far. Maybe I over hyped the "world famous, best deli in NYC" but I really was disappointed. Ordered a Reuben sandwich that came with bread that was not toasted, which I thought was odd but I was ok with it. When taking a bite I was surprised to find that the corned beef was a bit rubbery in consistency. After swallowing my bite I picked up a piece of meat from the pile that fell out after taking a bite and I could LITERALLY stretch it!? It was a very weird experience and I wanted to think that it was just a bad batch the first time I came in and was a bit disappointed to find that it hadn't changed since then... but all that being said it wasn't bad enough for me to power through the consistency of the corned beef to get my $24 dollars worth of this sandwich. WAAAAY over priced for the quality of what you get. Although if you don't mind spending the money, I feel like this restaurant is more about the experience and being able to say that you have been the the world famous Katz deli. But if you're looking for a good deli to go to you could easily find a better one

OMG....had the meals for 4 sent to my son in Nevada for a special treat and the treat was on me!!! He called after opening up everything and TOTALLY loved everything!!! I use to visit Katz's twice a year with my Dad and going there always brought the best memories to this day and that was over 50 years ago!!! Dr. Brown Celery was my Dad's favorite drink and Katz's ALWAYS had it!!! So I wanted to have a little nostalgia by sending the "goodies" to my son since he wasn't feeling well. The shipping was FREE and everything came to him in perfect condition....my mouth is watering just writing this....So glad the "the more things change the more things stay the same"...... THANK YOU KATZ'S DELICATESSEN for not changing. <3 <3 <3

Disappointed! 25 dollars for a small sandwich is taking advantage. If a ticketing system needs to be explained to every customer then it is not simple! I had the corned beef which was slightly cold but tried some friends' brisket and pastrami which was warm and very tasty. In summary would not got there again or recommend to others as it is way overpriced for what you get.
