I looked up a used Mazda 6 on Joe Machen's website, and decided to go in to take a look at it. I immediately expressed interest in the used car, stating I had a certain budget, and they were more than "understanding".They said it was currently at their other dealership, but would let me test drive a newer version of the same vehicle to see what it feels like. Not a problem, so we took the test run. Afterwards, the salesman sits me down to talk numbers. I again expressed my budget, yet he continues to insist on the new car rather than the original used one that I wanted. He then gets irritated when I wasn't happy with the numbers that he came back with, even though they were 3 grand more than the absolute most I wanted to spend. The sales manager then comes over, trying to pull a technicality, saying that "well your budget was only for used cars, you haven't considered new cars yet". Great way to make a sale right there. So they lower the numbers and offer me a "steal".. so a brand new 2016 Mazda 6 on their website was listed for $21,585. They offered me $21,500, which supposedly included a $1,200 trade-in value for my truck... so in reality, they offered me $85 for my truck. Math isn't rocket science. They insisted "oh what's a few more grand for a brand new car?". Well, sir.. that's a few thousand dollars that I don't have. Moving on, I also expressed interest in a used Mazda CX-5. The salesman began to insist that a used Mazda CX-5 for under 20 grand just would not be possible unless it had about 80k miles. Laughing to myself, as I had been doing research on these vehicles for months and knew how stupid he sounded and how horribly wrong he was. Needless to say, I did not purchase a vehicle from them, and left with both parties feeling annoyed. I am now the proud owner of a 2014 Mazda CX-5 with 41k miles, which I purchased in Chicago, for $18,500. Will I ever purchase a vehicle from Joe Machens? Not a chance, nor would I recommend them. Salesmen lacking of knowledge, managers lacking of personable marketing skills, all just looking to take as much money from you as possible. Take the time to do some research on a vehicle you want, and realize that Joe Machens is nothing more than a monopoly in the middle of Missouri. Don't buy into their bs about how they sell so many vehicles that they only look to take a little bit of money from each person and sell them cheap, because it's a joke. Spend a weekend and go to KC, STL, or any major city/suburban area where there is dealership competition, do a little bit of research, and you will indeed find much better deals.
