SORRY EXCUSE FOR A "VETERANS HOSPITAL" GIVE ME A B...

SORRY EXCUSE FOR A "VETERANS HOSPITAL" GIVE ME A BREAK, THEY COULD CARE LESS, MY FATHER FOUGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY AT 18 IN VIETNAM AND THIS IS HOW THEY TREAT THEIR VETS!? EVERY SINGLE TIME MY FATHER GOES HERE, NURSES, DOCTORS, AND ALMOST EVERY PERSON WORKING HAS A LOUSY ATTITUDE AND I'M SICK OF HIM GETTING TREATED LIKE HE'S SOME TYPE OF BOTHER TO THEM. LEARN HOW TO BE COMPASSIONATE AND THEN MAYBE YOU GUYS CAN GET IT TOGETHER!! I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE BUT UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT.

PS PHONES IN ROOM DONT EVEN WORK, HE HAD TO FIX IT FIRST BEFORE LETTING US KNOW HE SAT IN EMERGENCY ROOM FOR ALMOST 3 HOURS IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN WHILE HE WAS THE ONLY ONE IN ER.

I have worked here for 18 years. It is a privilege to serve the Veterans that have served our country. Our VA is the busiest VA in the top 5 of the country. For those that have had a long wait, unfortunately you are not the only Veteran we are caring for. Some Vets need more time than others....I apologize for the long wait times in all areas, but if you look at the volume of patients we see in a day, I am sure YOU will understand. Also for the person complaining about parking, we have free valet parking at the SCI entrance, and at the main entrance. This is a very nice service for our patients.

Warning this is not a place to go if your really s...

Warning this is not a place to go if your really sick or hurt. If you think it is worse than where you came from then your wrong. There is a small percentage of staff that is very good but far to few. I came down here 13 years ago but due to family and jobs I could not leave. I could walk 2 & 1/4 miles 3 days a week. Not fast but slow. I did water aquatics and could sleep in a regular bed. I also smiled. Life now sucks I keep asking God to help me or bring me home. This VA was given a complete packet from all my outside doctors/clinic's/hospitals. Yes Mayo clinic docs John Hopkins among other seasoned professionals. They came to the Cincinnati VA to come up with a plan just for me and it worked. No I could not run nor pick up heavy things but I did have some quality of life. On arriving this VA took me off all the medicines that worked and put me on theirs and my life went to hell. Therapy's that made a big difference they did not believe in. I now pay out of my pocket being 100% service connected. They have thrown films and records away to hide there blunders. The things I need are in my records yet they are too lazy to read. I was made to take drugs that are known to harm me many times, if you don't your are non-compliant . Known defective medical equipment has been used on me. I spend many thousands of dollars for outside medical help. I have been to the patient advocate many times trying to get help bending over backwards trying to use the system. No luck so sorry see you later or I'll contact you. I have begged God for help or take me home. It is very overwhelming . Last week I had a MRI done I have had many. I even provided them with a copy of the Mylogram showing where my spinal cord is herniated this was the 3rd attempt they still did not read it. The only clinic I can say did a great job was the cardiac clinic. BEWARE before you come down here. We are not street bums and we have already paid for are care no one should have to go through anything like this. By the way I called the MRI clinic and asked why the doctors did not read the important test results that were provided . The clinic supervisor Mario said what do you want me to do and laughed at me.

2nd worst VA I have the displeasure, right behind DC. I have spent 3 weeks trying to get my records transfer from Phoenix. This morning I spent 7 hours walking around the hospital trying to find what office transfers records. One would think records right, but no it ended up being the ER. Also, no one knows anything about their own hospital, except one dear lady who worded in a clinic, and a veteran who happened to be walking to an appointment. Folks thought there was an urgent care clinic, there isn't one buy the way. Pharmacies know nothing about which one does what. There was a very professional nurse in the ER who seemed to try to get things right. The ER waiting room was filthy, hot and very crowned. I pray God I don't die in this place. Its like some kind of ironic hell with all the banners, posters, and pamphlets they must have spent thousands on professing how important vets are, but so very plainly act to the contrary.

Tampa VA is absolutely the worst hospital I have ever dealt with in 57 years. The employee's act like they don't even see you and all they are there for is to collect their pay check. The doctor's won't take the time to listen to you and can't be bothered to read your records either. The ER mixed my records up with another patient... my records show I walked in with a fever and grew three inches and lost a few pounds the day I went to the ER. The nurse put in an IV and I told her something wasn't right but nobody cared, now 5 months later I still can't bend my arm without it hurting from that IV. The only advise I can give is MOVE.

I have used different VA hospitals and clinics in several states and this one is by far the best I've been to. The staff and Doctors have been great. The only reason I can't give it five stars is because of their ER. The staff in there are terrible!

New to the VA having just retired but I have to say the care at Haley is the best! Thoughtful, caring staff and state of the art equipment! Sure, sometimes I have had excessive wait times but I never lose sight of the fact that this care is FREE and I am not the only Veteran at the facility. I've encountered a few Veterans that were incensed at having to wait and criticized the entire VA system because of it. These idiots, in my opinion, need to tuck their collective skirts in and show a little gratitude!
Love the VA! Thanks!

If I could give 0 stars I would. Doctors don't care about you or your well being, if you call your primary care doctor because you feel any sort of pain their response is, "If you're in pain just go to the ER." No? It's your job to TREAT your patient? I don't want to sit in an ER for hours before even being seen. You tell them something hurts and they send you to five other doctors before telling you there's nothing they can do. Customer service here is a joke, they don't care about helping you they only care about clocking out and going home. This is where all of the rejects from real hospitals must come to work. Lodging a formal complaint with the VA system as well. Trust me when I say, ONLY USE THE VA IF ITS YOUR LAST OPTION.

I'm not a patient but a contractor working under ESG. The VA has been good to us and like our work. Working for ESG the last month has been a nightmare. A month or so ago there was an incident, no one was hurt, but Jim Carone of ESG was demoted. This is were ESG messed up. They should have removed him from the site, but instead, they kept him here. Now he's like a Hitler Dictator to all contractors on site. He and his Safety Team go out of their way to make our lives miserable. I've heard that other contractors are thinking about just leaving and canceling their contracts because of him and his Safety Team. They tell you one thing one day then turn around and tell you different the next day, then right up your company, over silly infractions. Jim Carone and his Safety Team are seriously a Safety concern themselves. One day, they will piss off the wrong person and there will be an incident. The VA or ESG needs to remove them from the site. No work is getting done because of them.

My father has been going to James Haley since 1987. I take him to James Haley for his appts. and on more than one occasion to the ER. MY father was discharged from there this past Saturday and supposedly a nurse would come and do daily dressing changes starting today but no call no show. I called Emily Peach who never returned my call call or had anyone call me. My father was also supposed to have a shower bench but on the 15th of Nov. when my father was in the hospital the staff picked it up never mentioned it an here I am just shy of a month and now have a shower bench. My father is a World War ll veteran I feel they deserve better treatment than they get at this hospital Last few times he has been here they tried to discharge him to early.

Rude. Lazy. Repeat. The receptionists behind the desks of the various clinics are rude and lazy and the providers are lazy entitled a-holes. The whole VA government healthcare system should be closed and every vet given a health card to see any private doctor or hospital to take care of the VA related medical issues. Taxpayers will save millions if not billions getting all the VA employee pension/perks/healthcare & bloated unaccountable VA bureaucracy off neck of the taxpayers.

All around the VA doctors and nurses took very good care of me pre and post op on more than one occasion. I am in the medical industry on the business side for 25 years and my whole experience exceeded my expectations. All my other appointments were taken on time with hardly any wait. Parking was a bit of a wait time, but overall I am very thankful of the medical care I have been receiving.

I have never been to a VA hospital that gave such amazing help and care as this hospital did. I had just moved to FL from the west coast. The staff working at the front desk at the ER were so incredibly kind and genuine and didn't treat me like I was a bother. The wait was not to long. That also may be due to the time I was there. There was only one person ahead of me. The nurse was so incredibly kind and treated me very well. The doctor was also kind, informational and really took wonderful care of me. Everyone was just so kind and caring and attentive. I went to the pharmacy there and everything was already for me, I didn't have to wait which is like wow! I have never experienced that before, especially on the west coast. Hands down my husband and I were blown away by the incredible care of the doctors, nurses and staff of this hospital! If I could give them 10 stars I would!

I just left because a cockroach was crawling up my leg in the bed I was assigned to as a admitted patient to the hospital.

Update: They were bedbugs, not cockroaches. I just spoke to Melissa Sundin, the Assistant Director, and she said that "she will look into it.

I also failed to mention that the Environmental Services team that came to my room went through my belongings without my permission. My wallet, phone, laptop and other valuables were in my laptop bag that they rummaged through.

The Supervisor of Environmental Services then threatened to throw my belongings away. Of course, I did NOT let that happen, but this so called Supervisor, Mr. Dorsett, thought it was within his "power" to do so.

President Trump said in his speech last night that the new VA Accountability Act will assure that "Any VA employee that treats a veteran poorly or disresoecfully will be fired!" So we'll see if the Tampa VA executes what the President said. Mr. Dorsett is exactly what is wrong with the VA. Employees that feel entitled, and think their job is so secure that they can treat Veterans any way they want to without any repercussions.

I will be contacting Congressman Gus Billarakis to have a Congressional Inquiry into wether or not Associate Director Melissa Sundin is following through with the President of the United States position on firing VA Employees who treat veterans like dirt.

I am surrounded by medical professionals, physical...

I am surrounded by medical professionals, physical fitness, phycology, motivational diet, recreation therapy, nutritionist, coping counselors, dentist, surgeons, and the best equipment know to the medical field.

As if this wasn t enough, I am connected to other patients that are learning to understand their own afflictions. All branches of the armed forces are being treated here, although I am the one Marine.

I gave my word that I would not be specific about others treatment, keep that in mind when reading my journal.

When I arrived here for treatment my doctor ask me a very personal question: what are your goals?
What do you want to get out of your treatment?

For me this was an easy question, I want to get control of the pain so I can have my life back!

A long silence followed by a crooked smile. Wasn t sure what that meant at the time, but I soon understood.

Breaking the cycle of coping skills:
Feeling great, progressing upward and onward.

Day 3
I m changing the cycle that kept me a prisoner for so many years, today my jail cell was opened. I had the power all along to make the change, although it was the worst pain I have ever experienced so far, I endured.
The power of the mind, while working with the body is the best cure one could hope for. The medicine chest is not the answer, rather it might be the chains of despair.
Knowing that I was surrounded by medical staff, warriors and armed with the knowledge from my new treatment, I pushed the envelope wide open. As my body was shutting down from intense pain and vomiting.

Her I am kneeling in my hospital bed, vomiting, rocking back and forth, , snotty tears running off my face, this mother-f cker doesn t fight fair, my body is terrorized and outnumbered, nothing left to defend, so I prayed

Father, I guess I m not made of steel and obviously I m not bulletproof, I m in need of your life saving grace, unless it s the grave

My Grace is sufficient, trust in those whom I have appointed to care for you. In the heat of the battle I sat up right in the line of Fire, and returned fire. Meditation-standing up instead of lying down, embracing the pain, let it go thru and thru, walk, move Marine you have a life waiting for you, one I created just for you, come and follow me and I will heal you!

I had an extensive 3 hour surgery yesterday and what a GREAT experience I had with the following: Dr. Beth William's, Dr. Navarre, and RN Teresa in 2CNorth. Teresa was quite thorough and I was really impressed with her work ethic, knowledge and attention to detail - She was excellent.
Dr. William's and her assistant put my mind at ease and reassured me that everything would be okay. I arrived not knowing what to expect but left knowing that if I ever had to have surgery again that there was no better place than James A. Haley.
These three were True Professionals and worth being mentioned, thank you for changing my life. You impressed me thoroughly. JOB WELL DONE.

Would give zero stars if possible. Called and talked to some woman to get enrolled and to see a primary care provider. After being on hold for 6 minutes, this moron gets back on and starts giving me social workers phone numbers. I informed her that I did not ask to see a social worker. I NEED A PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER. On hold again. Two minutes later, she is now wanting to schedule me for an orientation. Huh? I've been enrolled at Bay Pines; in Columbus, OH; in Cincinnati; in West Palm Beach; in Lakeland, FL; in Jacksonville, & Tucson, AZ. I've not been required to attend an orientation at any of these.
Besides the fact that this woman is rude and beyond stupid, she made assumptions and was COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL! God help you if you need to go to this VA.

This has to be the most incompetent VA facility I've ever been to. Trying to get labs done is a huge process and a mess. The DR orders labs and an appointment and they can never find them. Or, this is my favorite, they can't do the labs because nobody is there to do the test. They open at 6 am, but the people who draw the blood don't get there until 620 to 630. Then they have to talk for 10 minutes with each other before they can start drawing blood. It takes until after 7 for more than 1 person to come to work. It's no surprise considering they will never be fired. This VA really needs some people who actually know what's going on.

The VA in Tampa has limited space and surprisingly given this drawback the amount of patients they handle is astounding. The James A Haley performs more operations than any other VA hospital in the country. I know there is a wait to see a specialist due to the amount of retirees and ex military but, when you do see a doctor, the care is world class. I am very lucky to have the VA hospital for my care; it is my only source of medical help. I would be mindful of the people who complain about terrible care at Haley they are wanting the McDonald s drive through administer care, when there are others who are just in as much need as they are. I thank the VA and its philosophy of medical care for Military.

My name is David Hall. I'm a 100% disabled veteran with severe and chronic PTSD rated at 70% disabling along type 2 rfetradiabetes (Agent Orange). OPther combat related injuries.
I have been at VA in PA, NC, AZ and FL. James A. Haley is the best I've been too.
Recently, I suffered a mild stroke and both hips broken, all with excellent care.
Unfortunately, I have to report an incident, which is ongoing at present. I am house bound due to the above stroke and hips. My primary care physician, Delta team C, put in a consult to be transferred to Home Based Primary Care due to my inability to get to appointments. I was video interviewed by that team and was accepted. Without my knowledge or information from HBPC, I was discharged without notice and sent to Geriatric Clinic.
The reason; their policy says no guns allowed in the patient home.
Without regard to Cival Rights and second amendment rights to own a legal firearm. As I remember, a policy does not Trump the Constitution I fought and bled for.
I believe there are other veterans in their program who have legal guns in their homes. The only difference between myself and others, was truth. I volunteered I owned a firearm and offered to remove it.

I intend to continue my appeal to protect my Civil and Constitutional rights. Next will be the Head of James A Hailey Hospital and beyond if necessary.

I have said numerous times that this VA hospital is the best, but I shouldn't say that with 100 percent conviction. The reason I say this is I recent had a major surgery there and that was great because how well everything went, however I was not at all happy with the food. Being a Certified Dietary Manager and work in a healthcare facility I really was heart broken when it came to the meals that were served to me. The best meal was the night I came out of my anesthesia (late) and the nurse literally brought me a microwavable lean cuisine meal. Breakfast was horrible.... How do you burn scrambled eggs and still be undercooked in the middle. Lunch was much worse.... A small chunk of meat (pot roast) which was rubbery and instant (yuck) garlic mashed potatoes. Oh yeah and a cup of fruit cocktail. I was not impressed. All that being said clinically I think James Haley VA hospital as no equal, but take a closer look at your support services and demand better from them.

I have been going to the VA for all my health concerns for the last 10 years and have never had a bad experience. They are always courteous and friendly with a ready smile. They do their utmost to give me all the care and advice they can to make me a more healthy person. They provide free blood pressure monitors and many other free health aids. They endevour to do all they can for all of my problems and conduct all the required tests efficiently and professionally. The facility is always clean and sanitary with the latest in equipment and technology. They also have an online service so you can contact your primary care if you have any issues as well as a My Healthy Vet Flyer that has many helpful suggestions to maintain a healthy life and attitude. Based on my experience , private hospitals have a long way to go to be as helpful and efficient for the individual veteran as this facility does for me. And another huge plus. The copay is extremely low relative to any insurance provider. Never understood all the negatives from the press about the VA. The only negative I can say is that it's not fully manned 24hrs. a day for all your emergency needs. If it's an emergency you can opt for the local hospital and they'll foot the bill after your transferred to the local VA hospital if necessary. These guys are great !

This VA Hospital is one of the Worst I ever been too. They have some Great Doctors that really care about the Patient health. There are others that only care about Government regulations, and will do what ever it takes to push the Governments agenda. When you Disrespect a Disabled Veteran who is also a Senior Citizen in front of his wife and Caretaker, how Dishonorable is this. I truly hope that President Trump new Law which can make it possible to fire this Disrespectful Doctors and nurses can bear fruit. Now that not to say that all the Doctors and Nurse are like this, however there are a few Bad apples and it show from time to time. My honest opinion is that if you don't truly love your job, which is a Honorable Job, then get out the VA system. Perhaps you would like to work in Russia, China, North Korea and treat the Veterans there with Dishonor. Now the Mental health Care System is one of the Best there is, these Doctors have given me a chance to live a little better and really show empty towards us. Please understand, I not a out spoken Veteran, I know some of our Comrades can be a bit overwhelming, but please don't put all of us in the same basket. Some of us will never ever Dishonor a Doctor, Nurse or any hospital worker for that matter. I for one Respect and appreciate every thing that is given to me. I don't demand anything, it is wrong. I humbly ask for it, so I give Respect Humbly and ask for it in return. Please stop the Disrespect of our Nations Veterans, those of you who like to be mean and disrespectful, so leave the job to others who really thanks it veterans for their Freedom. I for one will start a petition to get the people fires who disrespect Senior Citizens of any race , Color or Creed. President Trump gave us the Law, lets use it to make the VA better. Yours Truly, Cpl Torres truly bewildered by these awful treatment of me and my wife/caretaker.

The quality of care here is amazing. They pay attention to detail and always check and double check your charts before making a determination. This is a learning hospital for USF students and the quality of care taught at USF shows. These students know as much as a seasoned Dr and are very knowledgeable and versed as if they have been in the field for a long time. I'm glad to come here as I know I'm in good hands. I've never experienced the problems the VA is plagued to have.

I have been receiving my specialist care from James Haley for more than 6 years.
I have nothing but positive things to say about all of my doctors.
Every once in a while you will run in to a lower-level employee who exhibits less than professional behavior, but the higher-level staff are all great in my experience.
It is exciting to see all of the expansions that are taking place to accommodate the influx of veterans in the Tampa Bay Area.
I know the VA gets a bad rap from some; undoubtedly, some of the criticism is warranted. In my experience, I have been well taken care at James Haley....now the Port Richey location is a different story.

Employees passing through the hallways are nice and helpful as far as assisting where to go. However, the ER portion of this hospital is a complete joke. The care is severely lacking and the wait times are BEYOND RIDICULOUS! Every employee at the help desk in the ER that we came in contact with was very, very rude and very short. Not helpful or caring at all. Not just my interactions but my husbands as well as everyone we witnessed them dealing with. It was like they were really bothered to be doing their jobs or to be helping these veterans. Just sad. We will pay out of pocket next time to go to a civilian ER rather than come here.

I've been in Tampa about 5 months now and so far I'm pleased with my experiences at James A. Haley VA hospital. I'm also coming from the ATL VA so that may explain a lot for some. I tend to get lost trying to get to my appointments but the staff has always been helpful and courteous with pointing me in the right direction.

Spent the whole day after a motorcycle accident and was just told this is not a Trauma center so we have to transfer you to Tampa General. Surgeon here is not authorized to make evaluation. VERY EFFICIENT

Not a trauma center but saw me for a motorcycle accident for 8 hours

Guess they really need money and just wanted to waste this veterans time and pain

Also, no food or drink until evaluation is complete! So won't eat or drink today.

THANK YOU! I really appreciate it

This place tries to kill their veterans, not help ...

This place tries to kill their veterans, not help them. You will get a COMPLETE RUN ABOUT on the phone when trying to reach ANYONE, from the various departments to even patient advocacy. Of course they NEVER call back, so you can sit in a 3 hour que to be hung up on or find out they gave you the wrong extension. They are NOT ABOUT the proper and best health care, they instead, want to KILL their patients so that they do not have to up their disability ratings, especially if elderly. The people who work here are for the most part Vets who could not get employment anywhere else. Their social worker dept. is a comedically sad joke as is their transportation dept. We were told to get transport for a wheelchair bound vet he "must be missing both arms and legs and be a drooling idiot." That is an exact quote. IF YOU WANT YOU OR YOUR VET TO LIVE, DO NOT GO HERE, DO NOT CALL HERE, PASS GO and GO STRAIGHT TO CIVILIAN HEALTH CARE! There needs to be a SERIOUS investigation into this place, Govt. needs to step in and turn them inside out! NOW!
