Insurance companies use this company to deceive people into believing the prices they wanted to payout for a claim was accurate. Buyer beware, they identified a laminate floor that could not be purchased at the price they claimed. They evaluated the thickness of the floor and failed to identify the unique handscraped designs which increased the cost of the product. One more thing....It is illegal for an insurance company to set pricing. They do it all the time and claim they are using guidelines. The true guideline is what the retailer says the cost is. Don't fall into the Xactimate trap.

I DON'T TRUST ITEL. THEY MIS-IDENTIFIED MY SAMPLE THREE TIMES!

I sent a full shingle into Itel Labs to confirm it was a heavy shingle. Itel had their clerk verbally report back to me that it was a 30. I insisted they re-test.
Second time: Clerk told me was looking at the photos where the analyst again measured the sample and used gauge on it. I asked, are they simply using a tape measure and a Haag gauge on these samples? She didn't answer. I asked again, do you mean to tell me they aren't weighing this sample? She said no, they don't.
I said this time I want a different analyst using a new gauge to test my sample. I said I want to know the analyst watches the Haag Training video on the Haag site on how to properly use the gauge.
Third time: Analyst said shingle is still a 30 year. Wow. I wasted that $120 and a week. I didn't know Itel was using such primitive methods at a "lab". I told them it was impossible to be a 30 that the lightest weight would be a 40.

Settlement: In order to resolve the issue I sent another sample to a real laboratory also in Florida equipped with an engineer and instruments. That lab performed an intake weight analysis and extrapolated that a square of this shingle weighed at least 256 lbs. even though it had weathered for 11 years. The weight was determined to be a heavy weight range and I got credit for it at my appraisal with the insurance carrier since the 2-page report bore an engineer's stamp.

The insurance industry is basing their decisions on a company that brags something like the "science of fair settlement". I asked for Itel for science and they gave me something else. How old and worn are their Haag gauges? That piece of aluminum is worn down each time it is slid across the granules of each new sample. How many times each day is the analyst using the same gauge. I don't trust Itel for grade analysis anymore. I'll pay a little extra and get the engineer's stamp on a real report from now on for weight class analysis.

Phones are going down faster and longer. iTel seems unable to find the problem other than blaming our IT company. The DDos is external and as a provider I would think there should be firewalls in place and the ability to find the problem has been left to us. I am so discouraged we have our life savings on the line and iTel does not seem to care. I have called the person involved only to receive a voicemail.

They I believe work in direct with insurnace companies when you send in a siding match half the time their matches r false or trash. Which in return makes the process of working with the insurnace more of a pain because they argue that "well if itel says its a match its a match" they dont of no credibility what so ever its the perfect fraud

ITEL Laboratories claims to be an independent labo...

ITEL Laboratories claims to be an independent laboratory for evaluating the value of your floor covering for insurance reimbursement. However, they consistently price flooring as coming from Home Depot. Not other big box stores...just HD. They will claim that the material can be bought for say, $1.00. When you go into the store it is priced between $1.30 and $2.00. So why does this matter? Because, you don't want your new floor to be lower quality than your old floor. As the old adage goes, "you get what you pay for." Especially with Floor covering. ITEL always chooses the lowest denominator....as if they are looking out for the insurance companies best interest....not the consumer! If possible, search through your receipts for the floor covering you installed and submit that to your insurance company. This amount per square foot should be adjusted for inflation. The other option would be to take your material and find something at a floor covering store that is the same color, quality, fiber..... Determine how much it would cost to buy your floor covering now. Then you will be ready for a discussion with your insurance company about the value of your floor.

They used to provide accurate pricing and took the stress out of giving homeowners a budget but the past 2 years have succumbed to the insurance carriors pressure and driven the prices below what we can source locally.

I ve used ITEL hundreds of times over the past 7 years. They ve always been prompt, courteous, and thorough in their evaluations.

I continue to use their sample evaluation service and their on site app with 30 minute turnaround time is great for basic materials evaluation.

I ll continue to use them for years to come.
