Had a pipe break above our apartment and flood us with 100+ gallons of water. Took a week to fix and they left a huge mess after "fixing" the issue. We were not compensated in anyway for this issue. Bad customer service.

Nice apartments, but much too expensive. Looking to move to Minot and we saw prices upwards of $905 for a single bed in their older property (Southpoint). We found a comparable three bed for $865 with a cheaper pet policy through IMM. If you can afford IRET, they have decent customer service, and have prompt maintenance. Apartments are nice, but nothing too amazing. They are maintained well, but none seemed like they were built to match the price they're asking.
My recommendation is to shop around before considering IRET; finding a better deal is not difficult.
Update: we settled on a one bedroom from SMC for $750, vs IRETs @ 905.
Awful management, they are very strict and picky at the end of your lease . They will do a full-blown investigation if you had a pet and They will look for anything to try and keep your security deposit ..
On the apartment itself, the Apt has minor issues however the walls are not thin at all very little can be heard once your door is shut, you can hear hallway noise that is about it. The lights are ok, although they paired my breaker to anothers. With every renters company you can find flaws, however as long as the CSR is decent the company should be looked at as being good. I would reccomend to anyone looking to rent, IRET is by far one of the best companies in Minot.
The townhouse was very nice, we lived there 3.5 yrs. and would have stayed but bought a townhouse. Construction was very good, very quiet never heard a neighbor, everything work as it should and if there was any maintenance, which was once, it was taken care of within the hour. Staff was always very nice, responsible and accommodating.
If I could give ZERO stars I definitely would. Hands down the worst experience I've ever had with any apartment. They're crooks and I would NEVER recommend renting from them.
I lived in this community for 3 years. Great place! Clean and convenient. Shuttle service to Mayo is a huge plus specially in winter. Maintenance are timely and very good when needed. Parking garage is clean, heated and the extra storage room is useful. Management office are friendly and nice. I also loved my view on the lake. Worth the rent!
Walls are to thin you can hear people having sex, playing video games, and using the rest rooms through the walls all from your bedroom. The cooling / heating unit never works or takes forever to heat had it replaced two times. None of the trim work matches in the unit it's a patch work appartment. sloppy paint job, lights not working need replacing or rewiring. Chelsea Parizek worst community Manager ever, and a total let down from the start. stole deposit and avoids calls by saying she's not in and calls you back private or from block numbers. Toilet not working constant running water, and pressure too low to flush....
Staff is super friendly. When they did a lock change they didn't give my household enough keys even though there are two people on the lease and they got snippy when we told them we needed another key. Very hard to get a dog dna test from.
Rented a property in the Minot area with IRET. Stay far away from this place. My former property manager Chelsea is real sleazy, unethical, no morals. She will honestly scam you out of your security deposit. After moving out settling with everything. Later she wants to all the sudden claim I didn't send in a 30day written notice of not renewing my lease. Now she is forcing me to pay another full months rent even though I had already moved out weeks long before. She has no issue lying straight to your face in order to find some way to punish you.
We had problems with one of their properties. When we called them they really took care of us and were excellent to work with. They took a lot of stress off of us.
Don't rent from these people. They are a joke. I've been trying to find out from them for weeks how much my rent will be month to month, and they can't figure it out. Not even the district manager can tell me what my rent is. No wonder I'm not renewing my lease. And then I get this ridiculous response from the owner. I did call you and left a voicemail, and you never returned my call. Finally figured out how much my rent is going to be. Didn't realize that would be so hard to figure out.
I am dealing with Sonja in Bismarck. They REFUSE to give me back my $100 deposit! She said they would return the money but have they? No. Also took $135 in app fees when the only apartment we really wanted was gone. Refused to reply to emails, or pick up their phones. Naomi said I'd get the regional manager and HE would be in contact with me, but nope. I got another property manager with an attitude. AVOID.
The apartment is very nice. Except for the fact that the walls are PAPER THIN. If you're a peeping tom this might be a great place to live. You'll hear your neighbors fighting, crying, having sex, playing guitar, watching law and order etc. ALSO the people who work at the office are essentially useless. We'd been overpaying rent for months and no one mentioned that. Also if you call they're often rude and unhelpful.
One of the best companies I have ever rented from. Always quick to help, and if you call for maintenance, a lot of times they will be out there in the next few hours if not right away the next day. Polite office staff.
Shelbie S was my leasing agent, very professional and valued person to work with. Was always very respectable and responsive to questions asked. Highly recommend to work with her if looking to rent.
Went for 0 stars, but that isn't allowed. For starters, management is nice when you first move in. Have been with IRET in Minot at 2 different locations. When it comes time to move out it is total disrespect from the management as they don't like losing the money. Also, if the property you are trying to rent is listed as "dog friendly" good luck! They do allow dogs as long as it's not a husky, shepherd, Rottweiler, great dane, etc. I called and asked what types of dogs aren't allowed and the lady went on for about 30 seconds listing nearly 15-20 "aggressive" breeds. Meanwhile, the majority of other companies that rent out in Minot and allow dogs allow ALL dogs (except pit bulls---it is illegal in city limits to own). I would NEVER recommend IRET properties to ANYONE, EVER.
Just moved out of the chateau II in April. It is not in a very good area. It's located right next to a bar, so you'd hear obnoxious people constantly coming and going. I was woken all hours of the night by snow plows, by garbage trucks, traffic etc.. The entrance has a very steep incline so most vehicles bottomed out when they entered the parking lot. It made an extremely loud noise. Could hear my upstairs neighbors footsteps constantly. The place always smelled like weed. (I didn't mind, but when you have family and friends over it can be a little un-comfortable.) I paid over $1700 a month for a three bedroom. Which is basically the mortgage on a home. Extremely over priced. The apartments were new when we moved in however the appliances were cheap, we had issues with the washer from the start. Lower outlets didn't work in the whole living area. Showers sucked. Low water pressure and little hot water. Spike strips in the carpet were sticking through the carpet so any time you stepped on the transition from carpet to hardwood floors you would get spiked in your foot. Most of the equipment in the gym was broken and our keys never worked for the entrance in separate gym for the 6 months we lived there. I was told the door would be replaced so we could access it, it probably still hasn't been, same with the broken equipment. The pool was always cold and the pool room smelled like garbage. No hot tub. The Cardio Theater is a neat concept but they literally have three different pieces of equipment, just a bunch of the same pieces posted out in the theater.
Positives: The community room was neat, however there is only one grill for everyone to use and the area is rather small so it gets extrmeley crowded fairly quickly. There is an outdoor play area for kids near the community room. Garage space was an added plus. Central air in each unit is a plus.
To sum it all up: Their motto is "this is home" but really it is just another apartment complex. If that is what you're looking for then great. While I thought IRET would be different I was wrong. You're going to run in to the same issues you would renting from any other housing power house. The price isn't so great. If you're splitting rent with a few people, it's somewhat affordable. If you're moving in with a family, I'd suggest looking in to a home to rent or purchasing your own home.
Also, don't be late with rent because they will not work with you and they slam you with some pretty healthy late fees.
Be very careful with this rental company. Before I moved in we did a quick walk through and everything looked fine. As I was moving in and had a chance to better inspect there were two noticeable carpet stains that I reported. I move out at the lease end and have a walk through and I am told everything was OK. They with held the security deposit to replace the carpet with the two stains that I reported the day I moved in. I know your choices are very limited in a Minot but check and photograph and document ALL defects BEFORE moving in.
Big corporation=poor flexibility. Let me start off by saying that I understand fully that I signed a lease contract with IRET. I understand that that gives them the right to legally hold me to that contract no matter what. I have rented from them since January of 2014. Never paid late and never had any complaints from neighbors. I consider myself and my family to be excellent renters and we take pride in it. I was recently laid off from my job and have burned through most of our savings account in order to pay the bills. We decided to ask IRET if it would be possible to get out of our lease 2 months early. The answer was a stern "no". The exception to this being that we could pay a full months rent as a lease break fee and then we would have to pay the remaining months until the apartment was rented out. This potentially would end up costing us a large amount more than if we just paid the rent for 2 more months. The issue in the first place is that we are out of money. The community manager straight up told me that they would rather evict us and mess up our credit as well as our pristine rental history instead of having a little compassion and letting us out of our lease early. The apartment is extremely nice and we have never had any maintenance issues, but my advice to anybody looking to rent that has even the slightest possibility of losing their job, do not rent from this money hungry corporation. They will not work with you for any reason if you end up in a time of need. After our lease is up, we will be moving and never renting from IRET again.
I would not recommend this place if you want to have a pet of any kind. They only allow certain dogs but don't tell you. They change there pet policies all the time but don't act on there changes with existing residents who I know for a fact have dogs that are not allowed at this apartment. They will not work with you on your rent payment when you have a medical issue keeping you from being able to work. I got sick and was out of work for a month and got told they would evicted us if we didn't pay are rent when it was due even though I called and let them know my situation and would be more then happy to work out some kind of arrangement to get them there rent for that month plus the next months rent but got shut down right away. i also had to put my dog down cause of cancer and was wanting to get another dog but got told I have to pay 200$ for the DNA test that iret wants so they have it on file and fine us if we don't pick up after are pet wich is not right. not my fault people don't pick up after there dogs. Then want75$ for something else plus 30$ a month for the dog. They give you a parking permit but dont enforce it. People park without permits in the parking lot and in the no parking all the time and iret does nothing about it . Its also supposed to be a secured building ya right most the locking doors don't lock and the key pads dont work. people put rocks In the doors to keep them from locking them out.this place isn't worth what you pay that's for sure.
I live in Plaza 16th in Minot. My toilet is leaking and not flushing well for over a week. I call maintenance multiple time and left several messages for them to come and fix my toilet but no one showed up or even call me back.
What a joke, this company is nothing but hounds trying to fine you. I've lived at their property and they fine me for almost anything they act pet friendly THEY ARE NOT. NEVER RENT FROM THEM. Find a company with a little compassion not just a corporate business
Apartments are affordable. The staff is professional and nice. The maintenance staff work on anything you need efficiently. I lived there for a year. Very quiet neighborhood. Safe neighborhood. Grocery store just 2 mins away from apartment, and multiple shopping within 5-10 min drive. It's like a hidden gem. The pool is clean, and is always full of your neighbors. The apartments are very spacious. If you are looking for you and your family, the location is perfect.
I was pretty happy with IRET for about 2 years. They responded promptly with my concerns and complaints. I really had no complaints at all, except that the person in the office assigned to my building never seemed to be available. I didn't realize that there would be a need to be "away from the office" so much!! LOL Anyway, my complaint now is the downsizing of IRET. We were given TWO DAYS notice that our building would be taken over by IMM. If I have to give you 30 days notice to vacate, don't I deserve the same notice when you vacate responsibility??? I don't know who to blame here. . . IRET or IMM. Seems a bit illegal to me to abandon a legal agreement such as a lease is without proper notice. Now I'm lost and confused as to what to do now. Fortunately, my lease is up anyway in 42 days. IRET seems a bit unstable to me now though they still retain properties here in Minot.
Had my car hit and run and then hit by neighbors twice due to a lack of even the slightest parking policing. Random non-tenants park in my assigned space which I paid for, and in the "No Parking" space adjacent to mine. Changes in lease agreement in the middle of leasing periods and no alerts, texts, or notice of maintainance other than parking lot repaving. Maintainance crew is impressively punctual and effective though! Friendly staff as well.
Absolutely terrible. Have had nothing but bad experiences since our first meeting. Shown wrong apartment. Leasing agent didn't know who I was and I was moving from Michigan. Was stood up for an appointment. Didn't have paperwork ready when they said they would. Two week delay on moving in that they didn't tell me about. Accused twice of smoking in the apartment when I am highly asthmatic and do not smoke period. As soon as lease is up I will never again rent from this terrible company nor would I recommend my worst enemy to rent from IRET. STAY AWAY.
