Love this place always a friendly smile and good company
We hosted the first British expats of Wellington meet up group here last week with no issues. It was a good place to have a meet up, great beers and tasty fried snacks!
Just made three stars. Just a little down at heel. Beers good. Food menu looked good but didn't try.
Bit if a dive, but then I quite like that. Cheap enough beer options
Nice little pub, friendly staff and good outside area. Looked a little dindgey at first but was nice
Amazing place and atmosphere , the staff are so welcoming and make you feel like you have known them for yrs . Jonesy and hannah and all the rest of you well done for making a little bit of NZ feel like home. Hope to see you next year . Wayne and Denise Hamilton x
Great place great hospitality good place for a good drink
Love the place I think it is owned by Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey
Great pub in the heart of Wellington! Lovely place to pop in for a drink and a bite to eat (my wife especially loved the bangers and mash). Great pub! It was a good time and good atmosphere, my Wife enjoying the right bangers and mash.
Nice atmosphere, good beer. Had a lot of great night's here.
Best pub in Wellington. Always a warm welcome, great atmosphere and friendly regulars. Best quiz in town too
Four stars for being different, passionate and staying loyal. Made the decision to cross the road to the bar literally built on an island in the middle of the road. Nice and relaxed, laid back and casual. If you weren't sure it was Welsh before you walked in you will be absolutely sure once you walk in and look at the numerous items and articles the adorn the walls. Staff are friendly and you might even see some true Welsh. Various seating options both indoors and outdoors. New Zealand's only Welsh bar and a title I'm sure will be difficult to take.
A bit rough but Best Night Ever in a pub in Wellington. The landlord was great Penderyn Whiskey oh yea!
Charming place. Lovely environment. Nice watering hole for when I'm feeling homesick! Iechyd Da!
Great atmosphere, staff and excellent Sunday roast!!
Was a good bar and quiet enough to have a chat with friends
I still visit here any time I'm in Wellington, more for nostalgia than anything else. Whenever I've been there recently, it hasn't had the same atmosphere as a few years back.
A honest pub that keeps simple right in the heart of Wellington.
None of the staff actually spoke Welsh but it was nice to pop in and speak Welsh to some of the other customers. Good atmosphere and good quality alcohol.
Amazeballs. Has lost some character with the revamp
Had a lovely afternoon until Welsh Bar served an earwig in my drink. They refused to accept responsibility for this. Very disappointing and made me suspicious about the rest of their hygiene...
Entertaining place. Full of characters. Mental nights out here. Expat heaven.
Any vote below 5 stars is a travesty. Best pub in Wellington.
Warm and welcoming just like a typical Welsh bar which feels like a home from home.
Warm people and great place for a drink and a chat.. Fun music and quiz night too
Hmmmm. I was brought up in Llanelli and this was a bit like Llanelli pubs... and they weren t very good. Needs some serious attention... new paint etc ...it has some serious competition locally
Live music, beer, great outdoor seating area. What more could you ask?
Very cozy atmosphere. They had live music or kareoke. We enjoyed cocktails. The burger was not wow but was ok :)
A cool wee place. Choice full of Welsh dragon flags :)
Had a great Monday night here friendly people great night overall
What can I say .... a little bit of the home land :) Fantastic. A must every time I'm in Wellington
One bar you have to visit. Don't worrying you aren't welsh they welcome you with open arms
After calling beforehand to ask about the Sunday roast dinner and told to just show up after 5pm, we were told that it was booked out and its unlikely we could order. But if we wait for an hour it's likely we might be able to get food. Almost two hours later they still aren't sure if we can eat. DON'T GO HERE.
Used to be a set of public toilets. No matter. This place is dope.
Great little pub in the heart of Wellington, with a garden area to relax in.
Great
Hard case but comfortable set up
Classic Welsh pub ran by a Welshman! You feel like heading to chippy lane after a few drinks here!
Vegetarian bangers and mash, quirky welsh Nik naks and awesome open mic night. Located in the poshest old public Loos
Great Atmosphere, enthusiastic care of new Wellingtonians
Thought they were closing but welsh bar still going strong. Better menu with Noel the chef back. Long live the Welsh bar.
Another Longstanding Wellington watering hole to wet one's whistle
Really old school pub. Very friendly, always lots of welsh people there plus lots of other British travellers and locals. Cozy in winter with fireplace. Good for watching rugby.
Despite this having previously been a public toilet, it was alright. The layout of the place is a bit odd, and I imagine attributed to the aforementioned toilet remark. It's quite small and the bar is situated right where there's a doorway, so you feel totally in the way while at the bar. Then there's the room that the doorway leads to, which had like 1 or 2 odd placed tables in the entire room, so I wasn't sure what the purpose of the room was.
If you just want a low-key no frills joint for a quick drink, this might be your spot. However, it wasn't really my cup of tea.
Good location, friendly staff and good drink/food. Pricing good as well. Decor could do with a revamp though along with the tiny toilets.
Love this place. Humble, local and full of character. Recommended for all.
