Very posh, but expensive! Nice view from the penthouse suite though.
My wife and I spent last weekend in NYC. We were there to attend a cello competion at Carnegie Hall organized by piano virtuoso Julian Gargiulo.
Arriving relatively early by train from Washington DC our room was ready upon arrival and we could move straight in.
The hotel rooms have been renovated and look fresh and stylish. The shower is great and the bed, pillows and bedlinen super comfortable. The breakfast buffet is one of the best I have seen. Great variety of breads, danish, yogurts and fresh fruits. Good selection of different style of ommelettes and scrambled eggs and lets not forget the smoked salmon! The bacon really nice and crispy.
The Bar Lounge has a great selection of Gins for those who like a good martini cocktail.
Overall the service was friendly and the Exceptional Service Button on the room phone does work effectively. We enjoyed our comfortable stay very much and will return for sure.
Very nice place with awesome staff. Some of my customers swear by this place. #sankofatafari #kingofcoffeenyc #durambessa #lionofthebx
Very nice hotel, but the rooms are a bit small and a view of concrete....
You could've planted some flowers in pots or something
Central location. Friendly staff, very nice gym. Room is clean and comfortable.
Place is a real classic, good location, clean, timeless style if not modern, and rooms are a good size and functional. Only minus is there aren t really views of much.
Very comfortable and quiet.Spotlessly clean. Nicely appointed.
Great food and service for a work conference. The staff was attentive and the hotel was very nice.
The night before, the receptionist told us we had a free $25 credit to use before 12am within the hotel. When checking out the next morning, another front desk receptionist wanted to charge us an extra $30 each for the credit we didn't even use. No one told us.
A couple of iffy things here and there but overall great
Staff were friendly
The room was good
The location was perfect and walking distance from many attractions
One of the classic bars of New York. Expansive but good. Stop for a drink if in the area.
Just spent a week in NY. Our first visit there. We chose this hotel because we did our homework. Researching lots of hotels. This one had a good price for a room with a king bed. We were careful with the "upgrade" offered as this is always offered. Ended up on the 8th floor. Thumbs up there. Staff were great. Our room was clean and neat every day. Concierge gave us a crash course on subway use! we r now seasoned pros! lol
Be warned that the meals in the hotel are a little pricey, as expected. We just did not expect this much of a bump in price. But food was worth it. Breakfast buffet was an incredible spread.
Location, another reason why we chose this place. Close to times square, rockefeller center, grand center terminal and a subway station is 2 blocks away.
we will stay here again when we return.
Btw, bathroom was large enough spacious shower...wish there was a tub..but oh well.
the only thing I can say negative was that we were not asked about our stay when we checked out No questions if we enjoyed our stay or anything like that. He was surprised we were checking out so early. 3:30 cos we had an early flight back to Toronto, and we allowed plenty of time for travel and check in.
The only things I can question...the a/c was not the best and I think they restrict it through the night..I guess saves on hydro demand. And the toilet paper...high end facility but low grade toilet paper. Strange.
Despite those this is our choice to stay again
My favorite hotel in NYC.
But my bedframe was so shabby & chipped.
NO EXCUSE FOR THIS.
LOOKS 2ND HAND.
Needs repainting & attention NOW!
My room was nice, facing the streets yet felt pretty calm and quiet. Breakfast was really good. I liked the variety of fine choices and quality of food & coffee. I think the room service food can be improved. Room was small but it was comfy. I think there was no tub just shower. Close to shopping and a few minutes to Central Park. I had an amazing time in NYC. Use a Tricycle Taxi while there to get the most & best of your time. It's a lot of fun.
Lousy customer experience. (1) Hair dryer didn't work, took 30 minutes and 2 phone calls to have it replaced. (2) Porter missed my delivered items (I had to show all tracking details, at the porter's desk, to find it) and refused to help me deliver it to my room (yes, I have tipped them. They still said no).
We recently stayed at the Intercontinental Barclay for our honeymoon and had a FANTASTIC time thanks to Christa Indiviglio. Christa really made the difference between a good and exceptional honeymoon for us! She welcomed us warmly when we arrived and enthusiastically answered our questions. We ve stayed at hotels around the U.S. and abroad and Christa s care and hard work set the tone for an amazingly special time! We are grateful for her thoughtfulness and know that if not for Christa, our honeymoon would not have been what it was. We would give Christa 10 stars if we could, she s the best!! The hotel was spotless and the staff were extremely attentive!
Amazing hotel with lovely staff and incredibly helpful staff making it an overall excellent stay. Will definitely return
Was here for the first won't in the updated ballroom which was beautiful. However on our way here and durring check in the hotel was not very accommodating at all one individual even put us on hold and never came back (waited 15 minutes) these things happen with an update hopefully they just become more consistent in the future.
Down side is you have to eat breakfast at the bar - the up side is you get to eat breakfast at the bar!
Beautiful hotel, classy, lovely standards of room, clean, friendly service and not too busy...
Amazing location, Incredible Staff, Restrooms are wonderful
Every detail is as you expect the old guard and gentry, of the New Americans intended- and even the things one suspect you may have asked for or engendered was already planned to your anticipated desire long before you arrived or even thought of it. Don't ask what they can do for you, they have already thought of it and have it waiting. Thus one can be late on arrival. The quitesennatial and essential parxelance--forgive my euridte parlance-- must be what's in the air and around here.
A gorgeous hotel to be sure but be ready for THE MOST CONFUSING BILL YOU'VE EVER SEEN IN YOUR LIFE. The hotel staff can't explain it, you'll get different stories/offers/excuses depending on the day and who's on staff. Ultimately caused so much confusion that I can't even get into it here. It all stems from their resort fee aka built-in "daily credit" which is mandatory and yet not included in original selling price. We figured out that its purpose is to lure people into eating at the hotel establishment. And it's a good way to ensure this too, seeing how many innumerable options there are in NYC. Having said that, the breakfasts were good and the service during our meals was impeccable. The ambiance is also beautiful. However, not worth it I think if you're in town for an events outside the hotel. If you have a busy itinerary & just need a place to crash more or less, no need to splurge here. I think this is a good place if you are traveling for a special occasion and need to impress your new love or are hosting in-laws or clients or something like that. It's also pretty far from the theater district. Still in a nice area though.
Beautiful decor, comfortable accommodations and warm, helpful staff. Alfredo at The Gin Parlour is a gem of a bartender! I will stay here again if opportunity allows.
Great place to visit but I still think Roma is better for sights and pure culture
Very nice hotel in an upmarket area of Manhattan. Rooms are quiet, no noise from the busy streets outside. temperature controlled floors in the bathrooms. PS# Don't touch the mini bar unless you mean to drink it. lol
I got free rooms, it was definitely worth it. I had a really nice time.
The most amazing Gin & Tonic I have ever had!! The bartender took the time to describe the process of how they make their very own tonic water. Incredible!
Not a great experience. Post booking called to ensure we have double bed as we had kids, we show up and to our surprise we are offered king bed in a cramped room. After protest, we are given a bigger room with a roller bed with extra $50 . No water to drink, no help to move your baggages to your room. Didn't expect poor service and have experienced better at similar rated hotels for the price.
We travelled to New York for my 40th birthday and stayed at the Barclay for 11 nights in June. The hotel is very well located - a 5 minute walk to 51st subway, short walk to 5th Ave and lots of restaurants nearby on 2nd Ave.
Our room (Superior Queen) was clean, comfortable and spacious for NY standards with ample wardrobe space and drawers. The bathroom was very clean with a large shower and excellent lighting. The interior styling is in keeping with the building's heritage and is a pleasant change from standard, generic hotel interiors. A small cake was in the room on arrival and we received 2 drinks vouchers which was nice touch in acknowledgement of my birthday.
We were on the 10th floor, near the lift lobby, but didn't find that we were bothered too much by lift noise or traffic noise.
The gin parlour was great for a drink at the end of a long day of walking and the gym is small, but functional and offers towels, headphones and iced water.
Staff were pleasant throughout our stay and quick to resolve issues (we had a faulty power socket in bathroom). There is no kettle in the room, but staff delivered one to the room for the duration of our stay. From an environmental perspective, I was a little surprised to see takeaway coffee cups, rather than crockery in the rooms, but I noticed that this is very common to NY - everything was in disposable containers and very little recycling.
My only criticism is that we booked 7 months in advance and, upon arrival, were told a daily destination fee would be added to our bill. We had not been informed of this and after bringing this up with Front Office, they kindly agreed to waive it due to not being notified.
Overall, we were really pleased we chose the Barclay as our home for 11 nights and would definitely return in the future.
A really nice hotel in midtown. No complaints at all.
Nonsense USD30/day "destination fee" which supposedly you can spend around the hotel but spending conditions are super restrictive. So basically this is just a way of them extorting money. Also USD20 "restocking fee" if you use the mini bar.
Lovely hotel...Staff very friendly and accommodating...Great service...Rooms exceptionally clean with fresh bed linen and towels daily
Be sure to include your Breakfast, it's a great start to the day with a fabulous choice
Would definitely recommend and use this hotel again when in New York
The rooms were gorgeous, the beds were very comfortable and staff was very helpful. I would definitely stay again.
This was our first time visiting New York and we truly enjoyed everything the city had to offer. At first we were planning to book the Intercontinental hotel located in Times Square although we only found out that we had booked the wrong hotel when we got there. Once we had arrived to The Barclay location we had asked a lady at the front desk if it was possible for any way to switch hotels noting that they were both under the same company Intercontinental . The very nice lady at the front took time to go and ask the manager if anything was possible and she clearly explained that the hotels were two different properties and there was nothing they could do - totally understandable. Our first night at this hotel was amazing from the service at check-in to housekeeping, everything was top notch. The reason why I am giving this hotel a 3 star rating is solely due to that of our neighbor next door who kept knocking on our walls for no reason! The neighbor then complained to front desk (as if we were having some kind of party) in which they came up to check on our room to find out everything was okay and we were doing nothing wrong. Although, every night this lady kept knocking on our walls even though we were using our quietist voices when talking - we could even hear her shower on at 3 in the morning! Upon checkout, the service was not very good as usually people at the front desk ask How was your stay? - although the lady that was checking us out did not even greet us, she just looked at us and was trying to get us to check out as soon as possible. When we told the lady about our complaint of the lady next door she just replied with a simple Ok , as if she didn t care! Therefore, the start of this trip with this hotel was amazing, although upon the end of our trip it went downhill.
Incredible hotel, complete with all the luxury you expect with the Intercontinental name. The Gin parlour is top notch, as is the service throughout the experience of staying here. Conveniently located, you will be able to reach many of the top destinations in the city with a short walk.... but you may not want to go out at all, as the rooms and furnishings (and the beds!)will likely swallow you up into a state of pure relaxation.
A classic that has undergone a great remodel. Excellent service, wonderful hotel, had be great time there recently. I like the diverse clientele at this hotel and the relaxed but upbeat vibe of the place.
The place was nice and spacious abd staff was friendly and helpful
Really beautiful hotel with a great location. Great cocktails at the bar too.
It's a nice IHG hotel but Ambassador extras seem a little weak. Elevators are slow. These are minor as the property is very good otherwise.
Hotel was nice, bar was great, but check in ladies weren't that friendly.
Everything was as good as could be expected. Keep up the good work y all!
Very nice "business style" room. Staff is constantly doing everything they can to accommodate.
Wonderful staff, excellent location, good prices. It's a good deal, can't beat it
Close to Grand Central Penn and Port Authority. Clean, nice.
Great place, close to everything and the lobby bar is excellent
The Barclay is an incredible option for your stay in NYC. Location was great, staff was accommodating, and the decor and furnishings were beautiful.
I stay in NYC in business usually for one or two nights at a time. I find it hard to find a consistently good hotel in NYC. For me it's noise. After a day of meetings and dinners the last thing you want is a New York trash truck waking you up at 3am. The refurbished Barclay is a must for someone (especially on business) looking for a property to escape to after a long day.
Nice place great location pleasant Room. Breakfast was the most amazing one I've ever eaten but for $50 it should be.
Visited the hotel lobby waiting for friends. The lobby is grand and the staff friendly. I almost stayed in a room there, but did not due to it being slightly more pricey for a suite than Marriott, but the hotel seems overall of higher caliber.
Nice Hotel, Nice lobby, Nice rooms, Good location. Food in hotel is way overpriced. They do charge some silly taxes or surcharges and act like they are compensating those with coupons for hotel food and laundry but those are way ridiculously over priced. Bottle of water which is 99c outside its $12 there.
The hotel is almost 100 years old, so the rooms are quite small. But the location is fantastic and it is within walking distance to everything that we wanted to visit.
Great historic Manhattan hotel, great service, staff and rooms
Great service, and clean, classy environment.. def would recommend again
Rooms with comfortable beds and a very good breakfast
Very nice staff, extreme quiet rooms, centrally located, close to sub, good value for money!
An amazing hotel with a beautiful lobby in Midtown. The lobby bar is great and the breakfast buffet is worth a stop even if not staying a the hotel. Corner rooms are nice for the price.
We enjoyed our stay very much. Very clean and comfortable
Perfect location. Very helpful staff. Room was spotless and comfortable
