I did not really enjoy the amenities offered here to be honest. The rooms were not as nice as three or two star hotels I have been at in the past. The hotel staff was personally rude to me and the others I was here with at the hotel. I will not again be staying with this hotel as even the cheapest room you could find here would not be worth the money.

Spent a week in NY with family visiting from Dubai. The hotel is very clean and luxurious and the rooms were up to par and that was important for us. They sent 12 extra pillows to share between 4 of us and we appreciated that so that we can sleep properly. Only issue is the food at the main lobby restaurant was not good at all. For 2 rooms and ~5000$ you d think they d care about the food. Guess not. Also we were ONLY told about our 25$ per day free bar items after we checked out. Who the hell tells you that after you check out and goes on to tell you oh you should have read our site? For that you lose a star.
We had a beautiful stay, all of the staff that we came into contact with were wonderful! The room was nice and kept clean, the bed and pillows were the firmness that we like, and the walk-in shower was delightful! Breakfast was delicious (the only meal that we ate because we were out experiencing New York). We'll be back for sure!!!!!
Newly reopened as of late 2016, the Barclay is a historic property that offers the amenities and service of a high-end chain hotel at a price that bests many of its peers in Midtown. The standard king room is also massive by NYC standards.
The bartender and front desk are great. Housekeeping, bell captain and waitstaff are terrible. Lazy rude and incompetent beyond words. Too many great hotels like the Lexington across the street that are a better value to ever stay there again.
Bar and Food average at best. Expensive and they added a 15% Gratuity, which would go unnoticed for they ran my credit card and handed me a cc slip with a "Gratuity" Line below the total. I found the bill expensive and decided to check, and then found the 15% added to the total before they ran my cc.
Remark: party of 2, so, no excuses here. They should at least have made me aware of that.
3 stars go to the lobby remodeled and hotel appearance. The bar and food deserved a -1 star.
My wife and I and our children stayed at the hotel for 2 1/2 weeks. The accommodation was excellent and the staff are friendly and attentive and the location was very central. We thank the manager and her team for an outstanding experience during our time in New York.
My daughter and I stayed in this lovely hotel for 4 nights from 17th April for an Easter break . We wanted to make our first trip to NY special by staying in a luxury hotel and we weren't disappointed! The entrance hall was beautiful and after a quick check in , arriving after 11pm , we went to our lovely room. The room was decorated tastefully and our large double bed was very comfortable with great pillows and duvet. We loved the bathroom which had a great walk in shower . The hotel is in a wonderful location, near to everywhere we wanted to visit. We never ate in the hotel as we wanted to eat out during our sightseeing. We sat at the bar and had a drink on the last night and enjoyed this. The staff were all friendly and helpful .I hope to stay at this lovely hotel when I visit New York again, my daughter and I loved every moment of our holiday , Thank you
A luxury hotel, with a unique service, gives an amazing attitude to the hotel's customers in all departments, a recently renovated hotel in 2017 tastefully decorated, excellent location, definitely will return again.
The room was clean and the hotel was very nice. The computers in the business center could be updated. Other than that I have no complaints. I wish I could remember the gentleman who assisted me at the front desk. I have been in the hotel business for about a year, and he is the best front desk agent I have ever seen. I was checked in very quickly and he was very kind. I believe his name was Dante, but I am not positive.
My family had not been on vacation in quite a while, so picking a good hotel was extremely important. I have to say from checking in to check out, I was very pleased with the Barclay. We lived on the 7th floor facing the UBS building and didn't face the alleged problem of street noise.
The rooms were very clean and cosy and the bathrooms were well stocked with all the amenities. To be honest we didnt spend much time in the rooms as we spent all day either shopping or visiting sites. The beds were comfortable and allowed for a good night's rest. The staff were also extremely friendly and assisted us promptly with any problems for e.g. fresh towels, extra bed or coffee refills.
As for the WiFi, the $26 fee is pretty steep but this is New York City. There is LITERALLY a Starbucks located withing a 5 minute walk in any direction you wish to walk to. There is one located opposite the street (Lexington & 48th) and another off Madison & 47th (right besides a Mcdonalds which also has free WiFI). Me and my father were both technically still working despite being on vacation and didnt find WiFi to be an issue.
I work for a legal firm as the IT director, there are nights where I`m not getting home. On those days the Intercontinental is where I stay and I have to be honest - I love it!
One of our favorite hotels in NYC. As soon as you step in you can feel that there s history in this building.
The rooms are a comfortable size and the bathroom is very pretty and refined. It s clean and comfy, the location is great as you can walk to many places. Definitely recommend it!
No swimming pool here. The rooms are pretty basic, when checking in, person at the front desk didn't tell us about any amenities. An OK place for a few nights. Nothing to write home about.
I visited this hotel many times in the past (before Covid) because I like the location (very convenient in between Grand Central and Central Park) and the nice rooms and great vibe. This early November, I stayed here again and I have to say, I was IMPRESSED. Not knowing what it would feel like traveling again and staying at hotels for the first time since the start of the pandemic, I can only say I felt extremely welcome, safe and so well taken care of. The staff was very friendly and helpful !!! The cleanliness of both the room and common areas as the large lobby was spotless and excellent. The rooms are nice, spacious and quiet. Even in the current complex circumstances of Corona and the travel restrictions and safety measures, it was a joy to stay at the hotel. Big congrats to the team. The Barclay definitely is and will be my favorite when visiting New York.
Extremely clean rooms great views altogether very nice hotel just one issue I had was the fragrance they is in the lobby we all agreed that it smelt artificial.
The hotel is very fresh and tastefully newly refurbished. The room was very comfortable if just a little.small. the bar was also very pleasant and for New York not overly expensive...
Staff are useless. They have to talk to a manager to answer any questions such as what the extra charge is on the bill. They double booked our room and didn't even attempt to find us somewhere else.
The Intercontinental Barclay is In an excellent location. The rooms are beautiful although lack sound proofing because you can hear the conversation happening in the room next door. The service is what you d expect from a 5 star hotel. I actually really like this hotel.
So why am I only giving 2 stars? The answer is because of the hidden charges that are applied to your room rate. A little bit about me. I have platinum status with 2 major global airlines, and silver with a 3rd. I spend 50+ nights a year staying in hotels and I ve stayed at this hotel a few times. This was the 1st time I ve had a destination fee of $30 (plus tax) per day applied to my bill. The destination fee is NOT applied to corporate room rates.
What is a destination fee? - Currently 100 NYC hotels out of 700+ Apply a destination fee. This is currently $30 (plus tax) which is applied to your bill daily to make your stay more enjoyable....Eg. it allows you to enter the restaurant free of charge - why is a hotel even charging guests a restaurant entry fee? When people can walk in off the street and use the restaurant for free. There isn t any guidelines on what destination fees cover. It s just an amount the hotel can add to your daily rate.
The destination fee is a hidden charge allowing the hotel to offer a lower daily rate when it s really $30 per night higher. You will not see the destination fee as a line item. It s hidden in taxes and service charges . The destination fee is also increasing. The Hotel s General Managers decides what destination fee is applied. It s not applied to corporate rates.
When booking a hotel in NYC you might want to consider a boutique hotel that is more honest and transparent in the actual daily room rate. Check is a hidden charge is going to be applied.
Great location and great hotel. It's a legend. Staff immaculate and very polite. Downstairs bar currently closed for renovations but plenty of other places to go. Some rooms small but all clean and fresh. Also remarkably quiet throughout except for emergency services sirens but it is NYC. Recommend staying here just for the convenience but well worth it
Beautiful hotel. Classy like all intercontinental hotels. The kind of place that let's your guests up without grilling them or demanding ID etc. They mind their business and they mind it well.
