Place to go for pc components but I am now a huge fan of the power spec pc's. I used to build my own until I realized they use top stock components and offer for cheaper than if you bought yourself and put together.

I'm honestly torn about this place. This place works for me when I need something quickly and don't want to wait for a delivery.
[Update] Pro: I had a very helpful sales guy find a perfect gift. Con: I was told they would price match, but they didn't. Thinking they just simply forgot, I attempted to both email and call about it. I never received any response. When I went back, the sale online for the item had ended, and they refused to price match.
In terms of pros you have: -Staff that are knowledgeable on products and most tech needs you may have. - return policy is fair - You can price match with other stores - You can reserve items online and pick them up/purchase them when it's convenient for you.
Now we get to the cons: - Staff are hawks that prey on customers. They're here for the sales and bonus. If you look lost, they will descend on you. And if you ask for suggestions, they aren't crazy by selling you the most expensive thing, but they will sell you something unnecessary for your needs. - Everything is so disorganized. There are always clutters of things littered everywhere or on the wrong rack or hooks. No one really seems to care to clean things up. - Pricing is mediocre. If you don't price match, you're paying more.
If you're decently tech savvy or have done research and your homework, this place is great. Just walk in, get your stuff, and walk out. But if you're looking for people to walk you through the process of making a new pc for your gaming, since you're new...better to stay away.
Found cables here that I couldn't find on Amazon or at Best Buy. Bought them online with in store pickup. Smooth transaction online and at pick up. I even got advice on my wifi while I was there. A+
If you try and return a defective device and they are out of stock in the store, Micro Center will refuse to send you a replacement. You can only do a return. Even if they are in stock at other locations, the customer is SOL. Manager told me directly "No, it costs us too much to ship." Glad to see how much customers are valued.
Nerds paradise. Everything you need for electronics, computers, audio and video and great projects for kids. Pricing very competitive. Parking is tight.
The store has a tremendous selection of products at reasonable prices. The staff is hit or miss in being attentive and knowledgeable. If you are purchasing a laptop someone is almost too willing to assist, but if you are buying a mouse then it can be almost impossible to find someone to answer a simple question. It seems like most of the staff are on some sort of commission and how much you spend will determine the level of help you get.
Always my backup plan when I need PC parts quickly and don t want to wait for them to come in from an online order.
Micro center has maintained their focus on the PC enthusiast which makes me exceptionally happy, I always know I can find great PC components here. And in many cases the deals they offer on motherboards and CPUs even beat out online prices. I ll drive down from NH, pay MA tax and still get a better deal than online.
I always recommend their replacement plans on big ticket items. The few times over the years I ve actually needed to use a plan it has always been a seamless hassle free experience.
I just love coming here. Some things are priced right, others aren't. You'll usually be able to pick up computer parts without shopping around too much if that's what you're going for. Bathrooms always really clean.
DO NOT USE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. Their motivation is to sell you a new computer, not fix your old one. I brought in my laptop to have the data backed up because the motherboard died. The service department did not back up the data correctly and so it was not usable. They refunded the ridiculous $180 fee for the expedited service, but I still wasted 3 days dealing with their incompetence. They told me my $1000 laptop was not worth repairing, that instead I should buy a $800 new laptop even though it has a smaller screen. I went to my local computer repair shop, and they ordered and replaced the motherboard and keyboard for $424, including tax. AND A PROPER DATA BACKUP. No where near the $800 rough guess I received from Micro Center's service department.
tl;dr DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. VISIT YOUR LOCAL COMPUTER REPAIR SHOP.
There's simply no better place to get computer parts... Partly because there are no other places to get computer parts! At first it may seem daunting to find what you need, but after a few visits you will acclimate. Prices can be hit or miss, with some parts being way more expensive and others being great steals. Web checkout / in-store pickup is a HUGE timesaver!
Best place to go for all of your computer needs. Optical mouse starts at $1.99 and a keyboard $3.99. The staff is very knowledgeable. They have desktops, laptops, tablets and all in one. Get on the mailing list and every couple of months they send coupons for free SD cards!!
Slightly painful to get in and out of, but a great selection of products. I actually overheard a salesman suggesting a cheaper graphics option to a customer who didn't need the more expensive card.
When it comes to anything related to electronics, Micro center is definitely the place to go. Although it may be a little hard to find some of the things your are looking for in the many rows of shelves, what you do find is very cheap though - cheaper than any Best Buy in the area. Micro center also has a wide array of computer equipment and always keeps hardware that isn't brand new at a low and affordable price. The service once you are in-store is very helpful but it is hard to reach who you are looking for by phone. All in all, Micro Center is a great source for all of your electronics needs if you are looking for a great deal every day of the year.
Everything I looked at was cheaper than Amazon. Huge selection of Windows and Mac computers, parts and accessories, as well as TVs and some interesting, budget-priced phones. Helpful, knowledgeable and available staff, without being too pushy.
This place is awesome buy cheap affordable tablets there all day, lots of floor workers Walking up to u assisting u on what u need, great costumer service, they even gotta Repair Center
Brought in a broken, prebuilt PC for a return and was given full store credit despite not having the warranty. Staff was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. 10/10 would recommend.
There is literally nothing wrong with this place. I first went a few years ago with a good friend, not knowing what to expect, and was immediately transferred to a state of mind equal to that of a child walking into a Toys R' Us. I'm really not sure why the hell anyone was trying to call this place, rather than just find the hours of operation and go there when they had the time. I went this past week to purchase a new GPU and upon arriving at that portion of the floor and assuming the "can I help you stance" was greeted by the tallest man I have ever met and made my girlfriend extremely jealous at how hard we were nerding out with each other. Simply put, the staff here knows their stuff. They don't try to upsell you gear, they're certainly not pejorative to those who may not know a lot, and they're always looking to help you make the best rig possible. The only people I've seen have a problem in this store are those who are a) Under the age of 6. b) Already impatient assholes, or c) Looking to buy a Mac. (Honestly, if you're going to the mecca of computer parts and looking to buy an already over-priced and under-powered piece of Jobsian worship, you're in the wrong place.) Micro Center for life.
I came in a few weeks ago looking for Raspberry Pi components. I have to agree with one of the other reviews that I felt ignored. I was in the same section for a good amount of time looking around and not once did anyone come up to ask me whether I needed help. This is despite the fact that there were two sales associates constantly chatting with each other just a few feet away. After having to ask one of them to check the price on a product since it wasn't marked anywhere, they insisted on putting a sticker with their name on it as if they had helped me find it in the first place.
However, I can forgive all of that for the most part. What truly made me angry were the repair services. I brought in an Intel CPU that had some of the motherboard's pins partially melted onto its pads and wanted to know whether it was salvageable. Mind you, I specifically came to Micro Center as I felt that this was one of the few places around Boston that could help me with this. The employee that I spoke to (a larger Asian guy with glasses) clearly sounded like he didn't want to be there and knew nothing whatsoever about computers. He first asked me what model the CPU was, as if that was at all relevant to my question. Afterwards, the only other thing he told me was that they could "run diagnostic tests" on it for $40. Absolutely genius he asked me to pay money to have my CPU fried for good when I could just as well do that myself. This again proves that he wasn't even listening to what I said. I would also like to mention that he did the very same thing (i.e. attempted to upsell the $40 diagnostics package) to the two people in front of me instead of doing any basic thinking or work.
While I can appreciate that they have a decent selection and competitive prices compared to online stores, I will not be coming back here unless it is absolutely necessary.
They have very helpful and mostly knowledgeable sales staff. Their prices are competitive and in the mix with online retailers. They also maintain stock of computer components that may have already disappeared from other online retail outlets.
Selection is wide, though may not have everything you want, but this is to be expected.
It was a pleasure to shop here and my wife and I have definitively added this as one of our vendors for our computer building needs.
I purchased my son's MacBook Pro here 3 years ago and paid over two grand. The store manager called me a few days later and thanked me for my business. I was impressed. When my son dropped it and needed the screen replaced, we brought it back. The person working on it tried to coerce him into paying more than the replacement value, because "something had spilled on the keyboard" and it needed to be replaced as well. We paid the $40 "diagnostic fee", I bought a new display assembly on eBay for $300, and I replaced it myself in less than an hour. Needless to say, I found no trace of liquid damage anywhere. Microcenter has lost a customer of almost 25 years. Good job, guys!
If you have apple products that are no longer supported by Apple, don't bother doing any business here! I walked all the way from central square just to have 1 part fixed but due to apples policy and certification, any apple products that are no longer supported they will not work on. Congrats MC, you've just lost a loyal customer!
I went there to have a PC built by them. I already bought the parts online. They told me the case was not large enough for the motherboard. I cam back home and was able to install the motherboard in the case. And I'm not an IT professional. That sums up their expertise.
Went in to build my own PC from individual components purchased. Sales associate that helped us, Steven F., could not have been more patient and helpful. I couldn't give any sales associate or any business any higher rating than I give Micro Center in Cambridge. It was probably the best sales customer service experience I've ever had.
Had a great time here. Cairo was awesome and really helped me pick the proper parts for my sick new gaming pc. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Micro Center in Cambridge had all the parts I needed while everywhere else had everything out of stock.
The employees by and large are not knowledgeable, many of them are outright idiots. They have a DIY electronics retail section which is awesome, but not one employee has any idea what the hell is going on.
When I asked for help, I was told "that's why it's called the Do-It-Yourself section" -- pretty hilarious, but not a great business model, as he really didn't have any clue what to do in response to basic questions.
Also the sales & repair guys are con-men. Watched them lie up and down to a woman that her iPad was forever killed, when in reality all she had was a faulty power cable! This comes with the territory.
I was going to give two, then three, then two, then finally one star, as I wrote this. I realized it's hard to imagine them actually being any worse
Lots of electronics. Hard to find items all under one roof. Computer build components to finished computers. Drones, raspberry pi, Arduino, replacement laptop batteries, cables adapters.
Very good prices, found exactly what I needed pretty easily. Staff can be a little overbearing, I had 4 employees ask me if I needed help in under a minute. Could have been a weird coincidence but it is what it is.
Honestly, I only shop here when I have to because I can't wait for shipping or when there's a can't be beat deal, which there sometimes are. Usually super slow, long checkout lines with many empty registers, while various employees wander around seemingly aimlessly and amused by the long line. Also, don't get suckered into buying a plastic bag by mistake!
They misdiagnosed my laptop and I spent a month with out it for no reason. They tried to sell me a $100 OS re installation even though I personally couldnt even install an OS on it myself let alone get the CD drive to be recognized in BIOS!!! I was scammed out of $40 to misdiagnose my laptop and I now have to drive 30 minutes just to ask for my money back since their phone service is so bad and I get disconnected every time I call. The lady at the checkout who didn't know what she was talking about said it was probably a driver issue and offered no further help, the cashier register woman was probably plug and play like my CD drive. I think the $40 is payment to not deal with you guys again.
