Friendly staff. The snow making team puts a lot of work into making snow. Very family friendly.

They are not following their own guidance on Covid precautions. Was there this morning and I have never seen it so busy, full parking lot, absolutely packed! The "reservation" ticket sales is a joke if there are no limits. People on the lifts not wearing masks as well. Save some time and don't go this season.
This review is for Octoberfest and the Colors in the Catskills 4x4 guided tour. The Color in the Catskills 4x4 guided tour was amazing! Your are led on trails around, up, and down Hunter Mountain by guides from Northeast Off Road Adventures. Perfect for those who want to see what their 4x4 can do off road, and the views and foliage are spectacular. I was able to navigate all the obstacles with a stock Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with stock tires; the trails are just challenging enough to be fun. With your VIP pass you get a ticket for the Hunter Mountain Skyride, a 20+minute chairlift ride to the summit with some beautiful views.
Octoberfest was fun, plenty of vendors, German brats, craft beer, with live rock and German music. Plenty of vendors to peruse, and the fall foliage is spectacular.
Good variety of trails. Very organized rental facility. A resort on site. It can get quite busy. Wish there was a separate area for those taking lessons. The lower lifts gets too crowded and those taking lessons get priority on the lifts. Well worth the trip and would definitely go again but never again during the holiday week.
Probably the best snow option within driving distance from New York City. There are plenty of varied runs although none that are overly challenging for skiiers or boarders with reasonable experience. Still good fun for a day on the slopes. The biggest downside is that rental gear is somewhat dated (ie, snowboarding boots are still lace-up versions).
The place was very empty when we came. All the trails were nicely groomed. No complaints from me
Amazing mountain with friendly staff. Highly recommend
My favorite mountain short of VT. Best skiing close to NYC
Taste of country was most excellent. Great line up, some great people and a gorgeous slice of mother nature.
WORST skiing experience I ve ever had. The icy blue square and black diamond trails were overcrowded with inexperienced and DRUNK skiers/snowboarders who should have been on the bunny slope or off the mountain completely. I saw at least 30 people who couldn t even get off the chairlift without wiping out. I am an expert skier and was terrified of a collision the whole time.
In addition, my skis were STOLEN. This has never happened in my 25 years of skiing at dozens of resorts. Hunter officials acted as if this was a normal occurrence for them and it wasn t a big deal. They even have a huge binder full of lost item reports.
If you have the choice, ski elsewhere. The trails were extremely dangerous and you may get your equipment stolen. I d highly recommend Killington, Stowe, Jay Peak, Sunday River, Cranmore, Loon, or Attitash.
went snowboarding always very kind workers and guests never had a problem
Beautiful countryside driving. Great for music venues too
We had a good time but we stay at a lot of ski resorts. The bed seemed small and old. The door in our room had gaps that let a constant stream of lady bugs in. This place needs updating. With Vail resorts recently purchasing Hunter, this should be soon.
been goin for my entire life. its the best spot near nyc forreal. don't go near wyndham its a wast of time and money if your a real shredder!
Best place in the Catskills to go for a ski and get a beer nearby afterwards
Worst ski experience ever
Lift lines out of control
No limit of people on mtn
Which they said would be limited
12/18/20
It's a skiers' mountain. The instructors at the ski school for the kids are great.
Word on the street has it that the are expanding this place 25%. You can say they are back in the "hunt" for the best resort in New York with this addition. More intermediate terrain is the cat's meow. Kill as always Hunter!
As many others state, the lift lines give priority to the ski schoolers and will hold the line up and not alternate for those with regular day passes. This mountain has zero amenities at the base, no trash cans, no fireplaces, no music, and not enough space for all the skis and snowboards as many people placed them on the ground instead of on a rack like most mountains supply. This has to be one of the worst mountains to visit because of how close it is to NYC is my guess. There are no parking lot attendants so expect for a crazy arrival if you come when the mountain is opening..children running in between cars and people trying to park in impossible spots. Honestly try any other mountain and you will notice a massive difference.
Hands Down one of

Can't wait to return to the mountain for this weekend
Went to Tap New York festival 4/24/16 at Hunter. Had an amazing day. The grounds were surprising clean for the crowd, and the mountain staff seemed helpful and friendly.
This review is for the bar.
Sat at the bar waited 20 minutes so we moved to the other side of the bar. There during another 20 minute wait we were ignored, mind you we were sitting at the bar and every other person who approached the bar were served. We weren't even acknowledged, we were seated at the middle of the bar and there weren't that many people. However they served everyone else but us. Not sure if they are just incompetent or if they don't serve people of color.
We won't be returning here.
Four of us went to skii to Hunter Mountains. It was a great experience. Three of us were doing it for the first and we could fairly well though we fell a lot.
Great place to go to outside the hustle of the city.
I came to Hunter Mountain for the first this Sunday with a group of 5. The snow was nice and fresh and we had many great runs! However, I have never met so many RUDE and unpleasant staff members working the lifts. Particularly, there was this one man on Lift B screaming and speaking so rudely to individuals and families. He made our experience very rememberable, but not in a good way. One of my party members believe that his name is Russ, but we cannot say with certainty. Although we enjoyed Hunter Mountain, there are many other mountains in the area that are worth my time.
Friendly people, so lively, many things to do, and skyride!
Decent mountain but still falls victim to the 'ice coast' phenomenon
Favorite New York place, the only issue is that the really food black diamonds get very icy at the end of the day but other then that it s a great place
Second time here love it if not a bit pricey but you can rent in other places nearbu
Best place I've been to for skiing all year! The food at the lodge isn't that great, but for the low crowd levels and great conditions, well worth the 2+ hour drive!
Great mountain just dont go during presidents day weekend
One of my favorite mountains. Plenty of black diamond trails to choose from. The lodge also has a lot to offer from the Sushi restaurant and the cafeteria and bar. Able to avoid some of the NYC crowd here as well.
A true stepping stone to Vermont! I have skied here a handful of times and always had a great experience!
(Midweek)
Parking was quick, free and easy.
Hunter offers alot of space to dress and put your gea on with plenty of locker space. Bathrooms were surprisingly pretty clean and kept. The mountain is huge with 2 peaks ( expanding soon ) one peak dedicated to easy/ moderate and the other advanced.
The staff were pleasant to deal with inside and on the slopes!
The views are breathtaking and the slopes are of good length! Being midweek and slower in business suprisingly the food was hot and appeared freshly cooked! The lodge looked clean and well kept with alot of tables and eating space. Gift shop was decent but priced a bit high compared to local shops.
I recommend purchasing season passes, this year we bought multi mountain passes good at 7 or 8 mountains including Hunter a few mountains in PA, VT and NH (check their site for more information). Much better then a single mountain season pass and for only a few bucks more . I signed up in April 2017 and payed $100 down and 3 or 4 installments of $50 per month, a small price to pay for weekly sking in the entire north eastern part of the country.
Overall a great experience, much higher, longer and more difficult compared to poconos, pa or mountain creek. Looking forward to many more visits
With barely any snow I'm not sure how Hunter Mountain advertises all this snow on it's website. Barely trained lift operators, curt staff at the entrance it's operations are anything but comforting.
Will you take a 3 hour drive from NYC to ski on ice with large patches of grass showing.
Extremely fun place! The instructor we're very helpful for our ski training.
Crazy lines like usual and a LOT of beginners on the mountain. This normally wouldn't be an issue but most of the advanced trails are closed so there's no avoiding them.
The best mountain within a couple hours of New York City
This is my place to skiing. I love the atmosphere around the place. When I am up the mountain, the freedom of space becomes magic. The employees are very helpful and friendly. You must go to visit this place.
Awesome mountain. Food is very expensive so pack a lunch!
The sky ride is really unsafe for kids as there are no seatbelts. A child can easily slide through the rod across your lap. The skyride goes at a height of say 6 floors. The minimum eligible height of 36 in. is totally misleading. Please address this before an unthinkable happens.
Great place to ride, especially if you like crowds! And people from Jersey, fogettaboutit
Great trails, usually gets very crowded on the weekends.
I came here with my family for the extreme zip lining experience! The longest and fastest in North America (might I add safest) It was an Absolutely incredible experience! Our tour guides Amanda, Tom and Mickey were great guides. They were professional, kind, courteous and certainly knew exactly what they were doing, which kept myself and the whole group at ease. We did the sky rider tour and why wouldn t you? Would certainly recommend even for any first timers. This was my first time and it was well worth every penny.
One of my go-to mountains in the area. My son (6) took a lesson here; there was plenty of staff on hand and they seemed to have a good handle on everything. We'll be back for future lessons.
Great day at hunter mountain. Rented equipment and bought lift tickets online with no problem. Staff was friendly and extremely helpful with everything.
Great trails, great bartenders, family fun, awesome waffles and ice cream
Been coming here with my family for the hunter mountain festival for the past 14 years now. Love to see it grow every year. Fun for everyone.
Great place to go in the summer you can hike to the fire tower amazing views the katskill lift is great
Skied here many times over the years on day-trips up from NYC. Weekends are often very busy almost regardless of whether conditions are good or not. Hunter does offer probably the best terrain within day-trip distance of NYC. I also really like the summit lodge, such a cools building, and very good food.
Frequent the hunter mountain oktoberfest. A good time always.
My husband and i came there to snowboarding for a day.
Its amazing place with a plenty variations of trails, lifts, foodcourt, hotel. BUT why does it work only until 4 pm?!
As I found out it's a good way to have a different options of active weekends during the whole year!
Great mountain, great slopes. Well groomed. They have snow all winter long.
It was great. There were not a lot of people there.
I came here on Sunday 3/10/19 I knew a winter storm was supposed to hit the mountains that day. The plan was nearly foiled by high wind gusts throughout much of the day. The sales/marketing/management team did make it a point to let any patron buying a ticket know that the summit was closed indefinitely. As a courtesy, they gave everyone a $30 voucher towards the next ticket purchase, which is good until April 2020. The day turned out even better when the lifts going to the summit turned on in the afternoon. Excellent customer service and excellent day on the mountain. What more could you ask for?
Great mountain near NYC. I love this place
A lot of fun and adventures.
Huntaah gets better every year. Best snowmaking ever! Quiet down Westerners...
It is good, but when you have been coming here for 12+ years its gets boring. I love the views and the snow making ability is incredible. I wish they had more glads, that wold make the mountain more interesting.
Nice mountain. Sometimes a little too new yorkish if you know what I mean
We love Hunter Mountain! We have a condo and come up app the time, there is always something to do beyond skiing!
The slopes are great. Lift tickets are a little pricy, but I got mine discounted at a ski and board shop. The lifts close around 4/5 so you need to be there early.
Lift lines are reasonable. The longest wait I had was 20 minutes, and that was mid day.
I had a great time snowboarding at hunter, and I'll be back in a week or two to get in a few more runs before the end of the season.
Great place to freeze! Other than that, it's a really great place for families to have fun and enjoy the snow. Snow tubing was my first experience here. I can't wait to come back and do skiing and snowboarding. Oh! There's also Zip-lining. 5 stars well deserved.
We've rented a house for after New Years to celebrate and ski/snowboard when everybody else is drunk after the celebrations.
The good. The house is literally across the parking lot from the mountain. Ten minute walk to a lift.
The bad. When we went for a check in (we had the house from 3 pm), they told that it's not ready and they'll call us when it is. An hour later we drove by the house just to see piles of garbage from previous house guests. Two hours later (!), housekeeping arrives. All together, we could only get into the house 3+ hours later. We got a round of drinks on the house "for keeping us waiting".
Here's more bad. We live in twenty first century, with free internet (wired or wireless) in the cheapest hotels. This house has (and, according to the manager, never had) no internet connection what so ever. Couldn't even tether through my phone - data connection is very spotty and limited. When I've asked the manager how come (no, I will not drive/walk to hotel at 4 am in the morning drunk), I was told that if I'm not happy, I can get my money back and get out of the house.
Best big mountain within a couple of hours drive of NYC. New Hunter North expansion is great with new 6 chair lift. Second parking lot and another lodge to come next year. Always more snow than most people expect for an ski resort so close to the city.
