No offense but nothing compared to out west obviously and not quite as big as Vermont but definitely the best when compared with the Poconos. From Jersey I would choose Hunter any day. And it's part of the peak pass which is a huge plus! Lots of fun concerts and events. Great atmosphere and vibe. But... Huge theft problem. Had a board stolen last day of 2018 season- apparently it happens frequently. Just make sure you lock your stuff up or check it even if most people don't, and have a killer day on the slopes!!
Oh and don't forget Taste of Country in the summer!! Such a blast camping on the mountain and seeing the big stars perform.

The mountain is nice, but the management of this resort is awful. A few years ago I decided to become a snowboard instructor at Hunter just for fun, for a break from my regular job. Hunter offered an instructor's course, which took 4 days on two consecutive weekends to complete. Participants had to pay about $100 for the training. I went through the process, as the staff weeded out people they didn't find suitable along the way. I passed all their tests, and on the last day I was told that I was hired to be a snowboard instructor. There had been a big snowstorm the night before, so I was eager to spend time on the slopes, but they kept us inside for over three hours while we watched a boring corporate film pumping up how wonderful Hunter Mountain is. When it was over, various staff members made speeches and threatened people who might break the rules. Finally, the owner's granddaughter, Sarah Slutzky, spoke. By now it was too late to get any runs in on the mountain. She said "at this point a lot of men get up and leave, because this is when we tell you that if you don't cut your hair and shave your beard you are fired." I couldn't believe it. My long hair had been evident the entire time I trained with these people for four days, and no one ever told me there was a policy against men having long hair. Obviously, Sarah Slutzky knew this policy was an issue, but let us all spend money and time taking their training course, without telling us that they discriminate against men based on their hair styles until the very end of the program. I told her off, and she was all apologies, but if she had any decency she would make sure people knew about this stupid rule in advance. Forbidding snowboarders to have long hair is one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard of. I didn't need their measly $8 an hour, and I tore up my papers and walked out of there, disgusted. I learned later that this policy was to 'honor' the former owner, Orville Slutzky, who had died a year before. If the way they honor him is by celebrating his hatred for people based on their looks, you have to wonder what kind of person he was. I think it would be better to honor someone for something nice that they did. I learned from staff members that Orville used to go around threatening men with being fired if their hair got 1 inch lower than their ears. One guy told me Orville had threatened him this way 4 times, and didn't even remember he was the same person he had already threatened. A photographer told me he took a wonderful picture of a long-haired boy but the management wouldn't use the picture because they hate long haired males so much. Subsequently, another company bought Hunter, but when I checked I found out they kept the same staff and were still enforcing the same stupid rule. They'll take your money if you want to snowboard and have long hair, but you are treated like dirt if you want to work there and don't want the management running your life. Absolutely disgraceful.

In regard to Hunter Mountain's response to my review, the matter was never resolved. They did offer to give me a refund of my training fee, but I declined and told them the only thing that mattered to me was that they change their policy of humiliating and discriminating against long-haired males. They refused to do so. I'm not Rosa Parks, but if the bus company offered to give her back her fare after she refused to give up her seat to a white person, would she have accepted that as a "resolution" to the issue? As long as this institution continues to discriminate against people based on their appearance, the matter is never resolved. The fact that Hunter Mountain thinks that returning my fee resolves the matter shows that this company has no clue about the seriousness of their insistence on humiliating people based on their physical appearance.

Awesome ski resort that is relatively accessible from NYC. There are a number of services (ovrride, Urban Sherpa, NYC snow bus) that have very affordable day trips there.

The mountain has a separate mountain/lifts that cater to beginners with a separate intermediate/expert area. Definitely not the most challenging east coast terrain, but a great mountain that'll easily keep most experts entertained for a day or two.

Check their website for snow conditions!

Hunter is a beautiful mountain but my friends and I went this past Monday and the workers there are extremely rude. We had a lesson on the mountain and the instructor was amazing and so kinda and so helpful. But every other worker we encountered was rude, for the prices of the food and lift tickets I would expect a bit better customer service.

The staff are rude and not attentive, the service is bad. The slopes at the bottom were mushy when we were there but the upper slopes made up for that. There is a long and beautiful but crowded ski lift that takes you all the way up to the top of the mountain. The slopes have amazing views and are some of the best in the area.

Great mountain for skiing/snowboarding that you can do in a day trip. It does get packed on weekends so stick to the trails on hunter west if you are able to do so, since they tend to be less crowded.

This is a review for the Hotel, not the ski lodge. The place is nice enough, but they are trying to sell time shares every time you turn around. They also have little warnings on all the items in the room that they will dock you $xxx if you steal it. Seriously? The balconies are nice and private.

Great mountain to ski. But bartender's in lodge very nasty, I loved the comments they keep giving customers about paying with credit card because it was a cash tip. And the nasty guy at the pizza section. I think they need a new lodge manager. I don't need a attitude for over priced drink or pizza, I didn't care how much it cost I was having a fun weekend. Otherwise it would have been 5 Stars.

if you're comparing Mountain to Mountain, Hunter is the most challenging and interesting mountain in the Catskill and Berkshire regions. But it is totally crowded on the weekends and with a lot of crazy jackasses who will injure you. I would never ski there with small children, and I generally would not ski there on the weekend unless there was no other option.

Resort is nice, staff is super welcoming and will accommodate you as best as possible. I wish there were more glades and more advanced skiing paths. And the hot tub should've stayed open, but oh well

Been here twice, once with family and once with friends. It was a good experience for beginners like us, and definitely more forgiving for those of us who learned that they don't enjoy skiing. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the slopes, while my parents and some friends preferred tubing with fewer thrills. Every employee I came across was friendly and helpful, from the beginner ski instructors to the people at the ticket counters. Food options were just okay, and the buildings seemed outdated. Conveniently located not too far from NYC, allowing for a quick weekend trip.

Fun

Love Hunter! Just wish the West Mountain was open more. Every time I go, its closed. The 6 person lift is super fast! Had lunch at the hotel and the food was delicious. Everyone who works at Hunter is very nice and helpful.

I kinda have a bias here cause I grew up going to Hunter every year for 9 years. The air is fresh, the rivers are clean. Beautiful hikes and places to cliff jump. Waterfalls and lakes. Restaurants, bars, farms, fishing spot, etc. It's the ideal Upstate getaway for New Yorkers.

Usually it's too busy on weekends
I won't go
But in super bowl Sunday it's ok

And to there credit they make good efforts to be friendly and efficient

Very problematic on weekends: waited for 45 minutes to get to the parking lot, another 15-20 minutes to get to the lift. You can hardly call it a nice skiing place because of organizational issues: they obviously sell more tickets they can actually serve. Honestly don't want to come back here. Though the slopes are nice and the stuff too...

12 $ for round trip.
I loved it.
Really good employees working here.

I had a good time snowboarding at Hunter last Sunday with a group of about 18 friends. Understanding the pricing structure could have been a little bit easier. There could have been a discount for buying lift tickets online, they only had it for rentals. Staff was friendly and we would definitely go back.
