Very dated and run down hotel. Staff are a bit abrasive but price is reasonable given location and proximity to city center.

I did not stay in any of the rooms but if the lobby and mains area are any indication, I'm sure this location has lovely rooms.
The room is small but has good service and breakfast included. The location is good as it has easy access to other points of the city.
I should have known better. Took my daughter to a concert in Toronto. My daughter's friend and Grandmother accompanied us. The Grandmother had already book them a room so I my daughter in the same hotel.
The lobby dirty and smelled. You have to leave a 100 deposit and watch they might try an pin a smoking in their "Ashtray-stenched" hotel.
Our room wasn't bad. I've seen worse. However, my daughter's friend came back crying because there room stunk and was disgusting. So I let the ladies have my room and I took the stinky room.
The room had two single beds, both looked disgusting. There was a single window that looked out at a fire escape and a large billboard. The air-conditioner was in the window which was the foot of the bed. Without the AC on blowing directly on you there was no circulation.
I would expect a room to be cleaned before a guest enters. I imagine a looking was done; but look a little harder and you might have found a pair of underwear in the washroom and they weren't mine.
The TV remote did not function properly. I informed the front desk. They responded with a "Yes we know".
On another note. If you expect nothing from a hotel, the location is awesome.
The room is looks like it's about 6 by 10. Doesn't look clean at all and I can hear everything that goes on in the hall. Oh almost forgot the hole in the bathroom wall. I know it's only 100$ and you get what you paid for, but I will never come back here again. Only reason it gets 1 star is because I can't give it 0 stars.
Might be a good homeless shelter. Although I have my doubts on whether a bum would stay here.
The room was crowded and had only one light. One filmy little window had a view of industry rooftops and catwalks. The room had a funny disinfectant smell. No chance of airing it out. The window had a noisy window air conditioner mounted in it. No mini fridge, we went to find ice. All the way back down and up.
The neighbourhood is sketchy. Queen St. W. Is a bunch of run down unoccupied store fronts, sleazy bars and junk shops. About two blocks east of the hotel is a safe injection site. That probably accounts for the myriad of panhandlers and the prostitute running down the street shouting out her prices for service.
I can't believe that a name as well known as Howard Johnson would be applied to this place. If this is a typical HoJo I'll give future bookings a second thought when I see that brand. We paid $500 for three nights. Honestly I that's at least double what it was worth. I've been in better places at $60 per night, no lie.
Room was clean service was good. Older building so boiler system was load and rooms are really small but was a nice place to stay.
Clean room and friendly staff. Don't expect too much for breakfast. It takes quite some time go get to the financial district.
No parking! Dumpy tiny rooms. No elevator. One chair. But close to the hospital
A pretty quaiet and quaint place ... Good for overnight stay
I've stayed in all kinds of accomadations and being a Canadian accommodation this was utterly unacceptable. If give it a zeroing I could. We were travelling with our 8 mth old baby and we had checked to see if they had a playpen and when we arrived we were given nothing but a hassle. We finally got the playpen. The room was disgustingly freezing because the air conditioning isnt sealed off properly. The heat is controlled by them and turned off at night so the room is freezing cold. I had to move my baby into the bed with us because it was so cold. The breakfast was nasty and clearly not fresh. The room is small and cave like AND dirty as hell. The floors were disgusting all through the hotel. These people clearly dont care about making your stay comfortable at all. They have zero sense of customer service and should get into another business.
great location , easy to get downtown , lots of restaurants and pubs in the area.
Check in
Room.... So small the double sized bed nearly didn't fit the room. Breakfast? What breakfast! Bagels, chewy waffles, no bread for toast, no milk for cereal, not so fresh fruit (looked to be older fruit). That about sums up your selection other then coffee, tea and juice.
Parking? LMAO 2 whole spots for the entire flop house. Will I ever go back? Not even if you paid me!!! If I could have given less then one star I would have!! Maybe they should give me five stars just for staying the whole night.
The bathroom was very unclean with mold in the bath tub.
Better than expected for a hotel bar experience. We were well taken care of and given time to enjoy our drinks.
one of the guests was drunk and harassing other guests in the hallways. then I saw him down at the front counter arguing with the staff when they tried to get him to stop. the breakfast was all right. make-your-own waffles was fun and pretty delicious...would have liked to see some maple syrup instead of the generic Aunt Jamima stuff. ya win some, ya lose some, amirite? other guests seemed to like the bagels. coffee, tea and a few choices of juices too. rooms were a little bit grungy..more akin to a cheap motel than expected. was definitely a disappointment.
Great location. Loved the neighborhood and having the streetcar right outside the door. Hotel was a bit rundown and room smelled musty but people were very helpful and nice.
In a very good neighbourhood, crazy night life and tons of things to do.
terrible hotel, the worst attention in reception and the rooms are crap
Absolute trash and unprofessional. Checked into the room to find blood splattered on the wall. Brought my concern to the hotel attendant and did not seem concerned at all. Would never come here again.
Well.... It's OK.
But street car's noise so loud.
Clean enough and has the minimum you'd expect from a hotel.
Little sketchy but turned out ok. Parking is not convenient.
The appearance outside is run down so I question what inside is like
Feels very sketchy when you walk in, a/c is super loud and won't turn off, woke up covered in hives and front desk staff wouldn't do anything
bugs infested, small rooms, falling apart furniture feels like your in a jail cell
Decent at best. Breakfast is basic. Rooms are dated and tiny. Clean, close to shops and restaurants.
Horrible!!! Would rate less if I could. Filthy, noisy, NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY and unaccommodating. Avoid this place at all cost!
I stayed one night and was completely freezing. The guy at the front desk informed me that they have a deal with their energy company and do not turn the heat on until the end of October. There are two very thin blankets and a sheet on the bed. Last night was close to zero degrees and I slept with my winter coat on. They have cable but the TV had a fuzzy picture. There was long hair left in the bathtub and the shampoo was half used - no conditioner. Also, there was a beeping in the hallway that went on for hours - probably a dying smoke detector. At one point for at least two hours another guest was knocking on their door shouting to get back in. I had my dog with me an had trouble getting her to stop barking. I had to half hold her the whole night. Don't stay here unless you are really desperate.
Ok place for the price. Great front desk staff. Hotel has seen better days. I found the place ok but would not send family with kids.
Horrible hotel. Location is bad. Rooms outdated parking a nightmare.
It starts with bond $ 100 if have smoked or not after his parking No elevator after it's really disgusting
Do not stay in this place. It truly should be condemned. I arrived in Toronto late and unfortunately this was the first hotel that popped up on my "close to me" location. I booked it not having a clue what it was. I really wasn't overly cheap either. It was $129/ for the night. You would expect some decent quality place for that rate. This place is BAD. I have no clue how a hotel association wouldn't shut them down. Dirtiest place ive ever entered. Didn't seem as it had ever been cleaned. The surroundings of the building are littered in garbage and what seemed to be old broken down abandoned busses and limo's all over. There were cockroaches in the bedroom and bathroom. Room was insanely small. Moldy and musty. Wreaked of smoke and dirt. Needeless to say I B lined it to get the heck outta there. They would not refund my money. No joke you couldn't pay be $50k to stay there one night. Place is horrible and out of a scene of a dirty homeless shelter / junky hang out. Disgusting to say the least.
Excellent place, very well located and the attention of the good staff
Small place, and rather out of the way from the regular tourist beat. It's a pretty poor area too, and you'll meet a lot of people asking for change down Queens St, some of them quite aggressive. The hotel itself is small and obviously not luxury, but it's clean and quiet and has everything you need. Staff are very friendly also.
Might be a good homeless shelter. Although I have my doubts on whether a bum would stay here.

Great service. The concierge treated my parents well and offered them an upgraded room for there stay
Little bit hard to get around to, no parking on-site, paid overnight two blocks ove. nice looking area. Easy to get transit. Never finished cleaning the room. Tiny with no elevator. Cream for coffee in the breakfast lounge had mostly gone bad.
Staff are unfriendly and unwilling to do much to help. I got online confirmation of the charge and late check put only to have them tell me they done offer it. There is no parking and the lobby is pretty much non-existant. The room was small and dirty. Bathroom shower wall falling apart from mold/moisture. Mold even in the shower head... This will be my first and last stay
DO NOT STAY HERE!
From the start we had nothing but hassle and No respect. The room had mold in it and I found pills by the pull out couch. When we were checking out they accused us of smoking in the room and threatened to call the police for disputing it. Just because someone looks young doesnt mean they are.
Clean hotel room, flooring was not finished and moved around between the bedroom and bathroom
Street level signage indicating 'Howard Johnson' would not only be appropriate, but very helpful.
STAY THE HELL AWAY. Worst place i've ever stayed. I thought the hotel commission had standards to follow?. This place is disgusting. No joke; a soon as I walked in the room I turned the light on to see three roaches run off the bed. Like truly disgusting. definitely would rate it below a zero.! Obviously as I saw the roaches I decided to not stay at this hotel. They would not refund my money and told me I had no evidence of the roaches and they didn't believe me.
The price is right. It is cheap to stay here, though it is because of the smallish, dated rooms with old appliances. The hotel is also in a sketchy area of town.
Rudest front desk employee. Should be fired. Worst hotel experience ever. Never book here.
Very small room. Large pet Fee??. No parking at hotel. Had to pay several times by hourly rate.
No handicap access or lower floor hotel rooms. No elevator. Continental breakfast was a disaster. Dont recommend this hotel
There were bed bugs in the room. Hotel manager disputed that they were in fact bed bugs. Throughout our stay there were prostitutes and their "customers" in and out of the hotel. People partying, and drug addicts screaming and gagging in the hallways. One of the worst, dirtiest, smelliest hotels I've ever stayed in, and it wasn't even a decent price. You'd be crazy to stay here. I complained about the noise at 3am and the staff did nothing.
Horrible smell of water/urine as we entered the building. No elevator had a room on the third floor. Accidentally booked smoking room staff could not help us and switch our rooms, even when we had our infant child.barely seen anyone else there. Door doesnt lock unless you pull on it when leaving, shady location and 0 parking for quests. We did not even spend the night,we ended up going home at midnight.
No on site parking, no elevators. It was decent for one night stay, and the location was convenient for us. The room smelled nice and clean.
Terrible. I wish I could give 0 starts. I wanted my money back as I walked in and walked right out. The manager wouldn't allow it. This place is disgusting and management is not willing to work with you whatsoever. Complete waste of money.
There is no parking to start with. Wrong picture of room, room size was so small as per the money we payed ($89)for one night stay. Air conditioning was not working, literally had to open the window to breathe,as the room was really small and suffocating. The biggest surprise was to see double bed verses queen size. Asked to upgrade, staff asked for $70 extra. Really an unpleasant experience. Similar kind of money, better rooms were available elsewhere. Breakfast is just chewy bagels, juice and coffee. Terrible..very disappointed.
The room is really small... no elevator.. it's not even a hotel.. it's a motel.. at the price of a 4 parking is at 5 minutes walk away in a public parking of an apartment building...
Nice staff, but gave us non smoking room when asking for smoking.
First of all, I give a 1star out of 5..when my wife and I arrive at the hotel, we were personally greeted by a person asking for spare change and this continued on for the 2 nites of our stay..for the hotel it self, are they that broke that they cannot buy sheets for their beds..I guess not..as for the 2 nites, even though they smelled clean...they had stains and were ripped on the corners..so if you ever want anyone to stay at that hojos...i suggest you get new management..new house keepers...new sheets for the bed and security to keep people from greeting you at the door asking for spare change..for the first time ever..need i say more...NO TIP FOR YOU
Very dirty. Small rooms. Everything old and outdated. I will never come back here.
It was bad. They do not accept credit card bookings without the present property.
The rooms were very small and the furniture had seen better days. The bathroom tub had chipped painting and the alarm clock looks like it was from the 90s. On the bright side, it was clean and tidy. We only spent the night there so it was cheap and served its purpose but I wouldn't use it for much more than that.
Cockroaches!!! And dirty. But adequate customer service
Allowed us to leave withing 5 minutes of being there...
Very cramped room, not as pictured online. Stayed one night and the fire alarm went off.
CANNOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU STAY HERE, room was tiny, old dirty and unsafe. The walls had spray from something on them, the box spring and mattress looked 20 years old and badly stained. Carpets are filthy with packed dirt. Deadbolt did not lock. People were in an out of rooms all night long, didn't sleep a wink. Parking is in an open lot that you have to pay for 3 blocks away from the hotel. Will never stay there again. Cancelled the week I booked in July.
Dirty entry, clean room but cramped and in need of repairs. NO parking area. We were told to park in a public lot, ended up with a ticket. Never again, not worth it. Spend the extra money and stay downtown.
Rude services & I paid for 2 nights after I saw room . I asked for cancel the second night .they said no refunds and just do check out . I was disappointment and I don't recommend it
The rooms have a smoke odour even on non smoking floor. Beds are ridiculously comfortable! But that's pretty much the best part of the hotel.
Oh dear. What a shame that hotels like this still exist in the GTA. i booked this hotel for me and my husband to stay in because it's the nearest hotel to St. josephs's Health Centre where i was having surgery. i had read the reviews, but i was short of choices and decided to grin and bear it.
The double room was depressing. Bedding, decor, flooring was all second rate. The main problem for me was lack of space - the bed was pushed up against the wall and not enough room for a bedside table/lamp on both sides of the bed. Walls aren't well sound proofed, and we heard everything going on in the neighbouring rooms. We didn't bother to eat the free breakfast.
On the night after my surgery my husband decided he'd rather spend the night in a chair in my room than go back to the hotel. The desk staff were pleasant enough, but the only remarkable points about this hotel are the negative one's. it's a bed for the night at most so don't expect much if you're going to stay here.
The staff were lovely, but I didn't realize it was a 3 story walk up. The sheets were also threadbare and the curtains didn't actually cover the windows fully. It's a great location and a very easy spot to get around from though.
Really small room, not super clean, noisy AC unit... Staff was ok, though.
Unbelievably hot! Visited in January and the heat was cranked to sauna levels.
Stayed here once back in 2004 let me tell ya 1 thing NEVER AGAIN my reservation was a single bed i hardly fit in an air conditioner that hardly worked noisy street all hours of the night mouldy bathroom and a fixture that was literally hanging .at least they fixed by check in or upgraded mr to a better room at the single room rate
Rooms are small but clean. Location isn't ideal as it's located next to the streetcar train yard, so it can be loud throughout the night. Reasonably priced for being Toronto.
Worst hotel ever. Like right out of the horror movies. Pimps prostitutes drugs
Service was good and room was clean, but there was a musty smell in the room and bathroom. Parking was confusing. Free breakfast is nice.
