This hotel seems like it would not be great, but the rooms were clean, service was prompt and pleasant, and we all slept quite comfortably for the weekend. There are lots of restaurants nearby to enjoy and breakfast was satisfying enough to get us off to a good start.

What they don't tell you online: the rooms are extremely hot - too much so to sleep, the phones in every room are disconnected, their version of a wake up call consists of someone knocking on your door 20 minutes after the requested time, they state on the website three times that they are pet friendly but they don't tell you they charge $20/night per dog, there is no parking - not even to check in and bring your bags in. The breakfast is alright.... Your only choices are waffles, fruit loops, special k or toast but it's alright for free. They have no high chairs at the breakfast. There is no 24 hour food around. The McDonalds beside it is supposed to be open all night but was closed at 12:30 when we went to eat there and the sign said it would be closed until 4:30. The rooms appeared clean, but worn down. The night staff were not very friendly, but the manager in the morning was very nice.

This had to have been the worst stay at a hotel in my entire life. I was going out drinking on Saturday, December 10th and decided that I wanted to stay at a hotel. I didn't want to pay a lot of money so I was not expecting much to begin with. Still with my low expectation it still managed to surprised me, and not in a good way. I checked in around 9pm, which was a seamless experience. The concierge was knowledgeable and I was given my room card hassle free. Upon entering the room I noticed it was uncomfortably hot, but at this point it made no difference I was going out. I had to park my car in a public parking spot as they have no on site parking.

Upon returning at around 3am I went to my room to sleep. It was impossible to do so. The room was blistering hot and there is no way to control the heat in the room. I called the concierge many times to adjust the heat in my room. He said he would but nothing changed. There was an air conditioner in the room that did not work. I ended up sleeping maybe 4 hours and sweating buckets for the rest of the time.

I recommend to avoid this hotel at all costs. It's nothing fancy, and I wouldn't want anyone to have the same experience I had. For an extra 30 dollars you could probably actually be able to sleep somewhere. As far as a cheap option goes I am sure you would be able to find something better. Don't make the same mistake I did.

This place is awful. It smells musty and moldy. The rooms are claustrophobic, towels stained yellow and no sound insulation at all. Ceiling is cracked with a very poor patch job and there's a window ac in Dec. Dust and grime everywhere. I'm laying fully clothed on top of the coveres. i wasnt expecting too much but I was at least expecting clean. Based of this Howard Johnson I would NEVER stay at another. This place doesn't even deserve 1 star it's disgusting. Currently searching for availability at a different hotel and eat the cost.

It was horrible. The room had a bad smell and the bathroom smelled strongly of mould, because the ceiling was covered in it, and so was the shower, which was also broken. Because the air conditioner didn't seem to be working very well, we removed the front panel and found a thick sheet of dust and again, black mould. There was wallpaper peeling off of the walls and most of the room had not been cleaned in a while as evident by the piles of dust and dead insects. The room was not at all like the picture on the screen when we booked. Besides the filth and disrepair, it was tiny with hardly any space to move around the beds and no place to put a suitcase. This is the type of place I'd expect to pay $5 for in a developing country (then leave and find another place to stay), not $150 for in a Canadian city. Do not stay here.

It was unique. Be advised the rooms are small but for the price they were clean and comfortable. Sadly the area has many drug users and street people begging for money. I do not advise elderly or people with young children to be here. Be warned it is three story hotel and they have NO ELEVATORS!!!! Parking is a block away. There is a heavy Police presence! The staff was helpful and pleasant. Access to public transportation is wonderful.

Room was equivalent to a studio apartment of a hotel room. No space. Bugs on the wall. Freezing. No elevator. Staff was not inviting. Didn t even bother staying had to cancel the reservation

Outdated! I thought hotels did away with smoking rooms. Room was 311. Small & smelled of old cigarette smoke, but it was clean. It would do them well to paint, update the decor, peeling wallpaper. No parking on site parking lot was several blocks away, 10 min walk. This room also had no fridge, would have been good to keep my own food as I have Celiac disease & can't eat McDonalds or the continental breakfast. Online room pics are misleading, nothing like real life. No elevator, stairs only, in case you have a disability. Staff were courteous though.

Majority of rooms are smoking rooms and the hotel looks more like a very cheap motel. Dirty, smelling of cigarettes and spilled drinks. Rooms are tiny and do not get cleaned well. This particular HJ is just horrible horrible place to be.

Look, for the price in the area it is great. You get a room with your own bathroom relitively clean, and the service was amazing. Everyone at the reception was really nice and friendly amazing people. The breakfast was great too, waffles, bagles all that you can imagine. Couldn't ask for more.

Let me write this in point form so it is clear:

- No Onsite Parking
- Hairs on sink and floor in Bathroom.
- Noisey Air Conditioner in window sealed by a tarp.
- Peeling Wallpaper.
- Screaming tenants and obvious Drug use on site.
- Possible mold on cracking ceiling.

I beg you not to stay here! If you are like me you have undoubtedly had good Experiencs at other Howard Johnsons; Do not be mistaken, this is nothing like those Howard Johnsons nor is it like the pictures they post online.

Noisy area, beside a large intersection with streetcars and on the other side there's a streetcar service yard. A lot of weird people hang around this area too, especially at night. Hotel is old and dated and very far from downtown. No parking nearby

Friendly staff, some more organized than others. Know what your getting into , this is not a 5 star hotel. Unfortunately the only rooms available where smoke rooms but besides that it was a great experience. Small rooms but cozy for a single person. Clean room/bathroom nothing to complain about. For the price and location right on Queens you cannot go wrong. Just be wary of the area and the type of hotel you are booking and you should have a decent experience. Wouldn't mind staying again in the future, I've stayed in much worse.

If I could give this hotel less than 1 star I would. Absolutely terrible. Pictures are very misleading. Mold in the room, single bed, no refrigerator or microwave. Front desk employee was rude and not helpful at all. Do not recommend this hotel to anyone unless you're looking for a sickening experience.

Disgusting hotel. The smallest rooms I've ever seen! The lobby and hallways stink. Staff are rarely available at the front desk.
We didn't end up staying overnight. We left at 2am and drive home to Whitby.

The room was small. She definitely needs to be better maintained. The cleanliness was debatable. Some repair attempts had been started without being completed with quality. The air conditioning was surrounded by black masking tape. The windows were fogged. The curtains did not close completely. I usually go hunting and camping outdoors. Except that when I pay for my accommodation, I expect more than this room offered. I would not stay there again.

Decent rates despite the incredibly cramped space, but absolutely inaccessible to any potential visitors with disabilities.

There aren't any elevators, ramps, or anything else accessible if you're disabled, and when I asked if there was an elevator (I am not in a wheelchair myself, but I do use a mobility aid), the clerk at the desk simply responded with "No, ( ) the stairs are over there".

Stayed 1 night and it was terrible. Room was sprayed heavily with some sort of deodorizer...could not breathe or sleep comfortably. Carpets had visible dark stains and walls had dents/punctures. We left the hotel as soon as possible the next morning.

Location - there is no on site parking. $6/24hrs is not bad, but it's almost two blocks away in the visitor parking for a sketchy apartment building. It's located next to a streetcar terminal/depot that is very busy. The room trembles when they pass.

The room was tiny... I can't emphasize how tiny. Didn't know smoking rooms were still allowed, but the whole building wreaks of smoke. The comforter was riddled with holes from cigarette heaters. Ceilings were Browning over from tobacco stains and poorly repaired plaster work.

Washroom was redone, except for some reason the 1980's brown metal tub. Gross looking and signs if mild dew and possible mold on top layer of tiles. Possibly due to short cleaners. Tight space as well, but manageable.

Neighbors party through the night. And scream during the day.

Breakfast is very basic. Found it odd the butter and cream cheese were not iced.

Redeeming qualities...
Concierge was very pleasant and helpful and the price is a fraction of other hotels downtown.

You certainly get what you pay for.

Okay. Reasonably priced, location nice in the west side of downtown. Wi-Fi connection is ABYSMAL ! For anyone who knows speeds. They offer you 0.25 mbps or 250 kbps which can barely view a 480p not even 720p not yo mention 1080p and 2160p.
They get 1 star for price and 1 star for location and okay atmosphere. Nothing special and don't expect to do anything on the internet more than check an email or watch a laggy video in 160p resolution.

Not the best hotel I've been to. Did the trick for a cheap nights stay, but the room was very small, and had an odour of smelly feet. Right near the TTV streetcar station so it's pretty loud throughout the night. Staff were nice and it was clean enough but wouldn't recommend unless you just need a cheap.spot for the night.

Booked a room in April, called a head to make sure our room is still available. Guy in the phone said everything was good. The same day, we arrive and he tells us there was compilations our room and we have to move to another location. We were the only people that night that had to go, over heard the phone call. The guy tells us the rooms are better and they won't charge for parking Fine whatever, but I guess Howard Johnson forgets to mention that you have to park 3 BLOCKS away because they have no parking. Studio 6 was no way any better.

Front desk was rude and unclear. The road infront was so loud I had trouble sleeping. The parking is a 5 minute walk away... The load in was simply parking on the sidewalk. The toilet also clogged alot easier than it should and had to plunge myself. There was also a random drunk man who was knocking on my door for 5 mins at 5 am and had to call security to remove him even though the front desk was right around the corner...

Rooms are ridiculously small, price of our room practically doubled because we used our Visa Debit (which we weren't told they wouldn't accept until a few hours before check-in), staff was dismissive and rude, no on-site parking.... they still have smoking rooms "because it's an old building"... to say the least, I'm not a fan.

This is a good spot to stay. There are bars in walking distance on Queen St. Plenty of places to eat near by. Uber and Lyft respond in minutes. Public transportation pick up. In front of the hotel. If your looking for a budget hotel that is close to it all, this is it.

Not bad for a quick stay. The continental breakfast is pretty good too. It runs from 7-10am. Access to public transit is steps from the front door. The only issue is the noise from the two streetcar lines at night if you are staying on the second or third floor. There is a McDonald's next door and two other places to get a meal from on the opposite corners.

I've stayed at this hotel twice now; two summers ago and this past weekend.

During my first stay, the room was fairly run-down and definitely needed to be renovated. However, the service was still good and I never felt unsafe.

During my stay this past weekend, I was pleasantly surprised - especially since I had read reviews from this past month that gave me the impression things would be worse compared to my last stay. However, my room (on the first floor) had clearly be recently renovated and was actually beautiful for the price. In addition, I received good customer service again and overall, had a pleasant experience.

All and all, even though this hotel does not appear to have the best reviews, I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed in the hotel while attending an even at the Palais Royale across the street. We paid extra for the nicest room in the whole place, #105, which was ALMOST passible, but we had several friends in other rooms that were atrocious. Bugs, smell, mold, no opening windows so no fresh air. Breakfast bad. No parking. Ugly. Street cars causing lots of noise outside the street side. Seedy looking clientele. Hard to believe it was a chain, can't imagine I'll willingly stay in a Howard Johnson again.
