Weekend from 14 to 16 December been.
Fantastic!!!
Warm and cozy hotel with super friendly staff.
Breakfast delicious.
Definitely recommended for a pleasant Groningen week.
Also important, right in the old center.
What a disgrace! Hotel is a past glory. Advertised with nice rooms, but in reality none of this turns out to be true. The price-quality ratio is a big joke. Jacuzzi appeared not to work on arrival and the facilities such as a bathrobe are not even worth mentioning. Unfortunately, another room was not available until around 4:00 PM the next day. In compensation we got breakfast, but besides that the staff knew nothing about this, breakfast was also very sparse. Certainly not the breakfast you can expect in a hotel.
When we then discussed all this, there was no response for 2 weeks and compensation is apparently not negotiable. All in all, I would strongly advise against it, despite its beautiful location. What should have been a weekend of enjoying yourself in a nice luxury hotel has turned into a very nasty aftertaste. Handled very unprofessional and inhospitable by the general manager. This lady's approach is not even worthy of 1 star.
Great service, great room, I would definately stay there again.
What a great find in the middle of town. My, very serene, room faced a beautiful garden in the back of the hotel. Excellent breakfast, beautiful restaurant, wine cellar. Nothing overly fancy. Just right!
Location was very good, in the downtown area. Hotel itself had a lot of atmosphere only our room was fairly sparse and small. Think it had to do with the fact that we were bongo users. Breakfast was also tasty and diverse
Good location, great stay but don't expect too much ...
Hotel is what you call faded glory. The property is beautiful, good location and in itself nice rooms.
There was miscommunication about an upgrade, very disappointed. Booking has 3 types of rooms, but they have 4 !!
After we ended up in a very small room after an upgrade, we got a slightly larger Deluxe room.
Room fine, not top cleaning and large strands of hair floated in the bath. In addition, there was no good window darkening. White light curtains were everywhere, so when the sun came up, at 6:00 am, it was light in our room. Not what you expect given the price you pay for this hotel. Eventually indicated this at reception, it was room 7. I hope they will change this soon!
Refrigerator made quite a lot of noise, and you also hear a lot of noise from the street. The hotel cannot change this, of course, so bring earplugs! Keep in mind that most rooms have no AC, just a fan.
Breakfast very scanty! Staff are all the time in a corner chatting about their personal lives. Besides coffee / tea / orange juice and milk there is no other drink. And the hot buffet didn't look great either. Again, with all the possibilities of this hotel and the prices they charge, this should be better!
Her is a very nice location. I had a very nice lunch with good variety. The courtyard was just like jw was very beautiful abroad. The employees help well and are always cheerful.
Attractive hotel and friendly staff. We wanted another room with more light and a view and that could be arranged.
Interesting city hotel. Former society. A bit chaotic due to several buildings with hotel rooms added later, probably partly because of this very separate double staircase, which puts you on the wrong track (see photos). Otherwise old but here and there some worn grandeur. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Large and basically nice but dated hotel. Room was equipped with everything you need. The location is unbeatable. Breakfast was great.
A very cozy and attractive hotel. Staff very friendly. Food tasty. Our room was a bit on the tight side shower difficult to arrange, beds very soft. Hotel is right in the center. We're really going back.
No tea and coffee in the room and a slightly bad smell
Cozy old hotel. Small stairs and corridors. Good bed and large bath
I have often stayed at the Hotel Schimmelpenick huys and have always been very satisfied. However, I was the first time with the room not so satisfied. The breakfast was as always very good. The location is right in the city, everything can be reached very quickly!
To date, the best steak ever had here. Nice ambience.
Beautiful authentic room with large whirlpool bath and rain shower, great breakfast buffet and nice staff
Nice hotel, clean and the staff are very friendly...worth of staying.
Friendly reception, cleaning is done well, but the rooms are a little dated with vintag furnishings
Good bed, but otherwise the room is dated. Also the hot water was not working.
Nice hotel, yes, as read in some reviews, a bit old. Breakfast buffet manageable, you should not go very late. Good taste. The dinner is great. Staff very friendly and accommodating. We will be back.
A hotel that looks like in the old days, wood, many stairs and hidden places, in the middle a cozy garden.
People are friendly and helpful and cheerful
You feel at home.
Top hightea with delicious fresh products. Very friendly staff and nice surprisingly large hotel right in the center. In the evening after shopping nice dinner and that was great! Certainly recommended !!
Well placed downtown. Be aware you can't access it by car. Room is big, clean. Got room under the roof with lots of windows which was nice. If you plan to work forget it, there was no table but as it was for vacation that doesn't matter much. Breakfast is good, limited but the essential is there.
The hotel interior by itself has its own character, which differentiate it from others.
Excellent place, pricey but good for couple days.
An absolutely wonderful experience! We had the deluxe suite with the luxurious jacuzzi, the wonderful bed and the cool marble floor. The staff was always friendly and helpful and is always there for you. Really a top experience and also close to the martini tower!
Operation is slow and impersonal. Not quite my taste. The food on the other hand was very good, fresh and tasteful. The ambiance is also very inspiring.
Cozy outside garden. Had wonderful high tea
Really touched
I have stayed at this hotel several times. I was satisfied every time the rooms are 1 A.
The staff is very nice and attentive.
Gladly again at any time.
Back garden is lovely, in the middle of the city, very quiet. Had a nice lunch
Nice old building and a cozy atmosphere.
The high tea was good. :)
Today we've visited Hotel Schimmelpennink Huys for a high tea. I've had better!
We've been pointed to a table in the garden, where we we're encounter a troop of wasps. After a couple of minutes we went inside to enjoy the high tea. But, it wasn't all that special. Basic is the word that's fits. There are four kinds of tea, and overall basic treats like brownies, cupcakes, scones and slices of bread with cheese or chives (because we've ordered two vegetarian high tea's).
Look on the internet for an offer, because I don't think it's worth the full price.
Had a very nice Christmas brunch / buffet. Very attractive and authentic location (including the associated defects, but we take that for granted).
Nice location in the center of Groningen. Great food and pleasant service.
Received a weekend away as a gift. Refuel in a luxurious room with Jacuzzi. We received a friendly welcome and were referred to a classic room. It was a spacious room with high windows and ceilings, a sitting area and a bathroom with Jacuzzi. It was immediately noticeable that there were damp spots on the wall here and there. That was a pity. We also had a room on the street side where a lot of traffic could be heard through the large windows and the single glazing. After a fun day in the city and bubbly, we try to go to sleep at 23:00. First we hear a mechanical noise from the neighbor's room. This turns out to be their bubble bath. "This is not normal to hear this loud!" The outside noise is quite present in the room and we check whether the windows are really closed. Unfortunately yes. What a drama. Here we lie. We don't sleep a wink that night. The next morning we roll out of bed and report our complaints to the reception. We packed the bags and want to cancel the second night and get our money back. We won't pull this off another night. The receptionist is an intern and asks for some time. We will have breakfast first. After breakfast we come back and are told that the hotel is fully booked. We cannot move to another room. We also do not get our money back. WHAT ?! ... we don't want to spend another night in that hellish room! We ask for the manager who immediately indicates that she cannot give us the money back. If she did that with every noise complaint, she could close the place. So we can leave without money or stay another night !? We are allowed to drop an outstanding bill (one wine, one ginger ale and bread with spreads). Our mouth falls open. That's not how you deal with customers. We pay a considerable amount for a weekend of rest not to wake up all night screaming. We continue to discuss, but soon notice that the manager is not going to move along. In the end she indicates that there are 2 other rooms that we could move to? WHAT?! .... You just said the hotel was fully booked?!.
We decide to move to the other room. This is located at the rear of the building. Fortunately, no traffic passing by, but a view of the roof terraces of student houses, cooing pigeons in the gutter and this room also needs a makeover. Paint is peeling off the walls, the window can no longer be closed completely, the wheels under the TV cabinet are completely bent, some of the caps in the jacuzzi have disappeared, causing your buttocks to rub against protrusions and there are blackout shutters in front of two windows. one not. This means that the room is not darkened. We still get chocolates and a late check-out but our weekend away is already ruined. We will never go to this hotel again and certainly do not recommend it.
The hotel is getting a bit old, you see that again and again in different places. The windows are made of wood and you can hear a lot from outside.
The jacuzzi looks already heavily used and there are no covers on the jets, so it is sharp-edged there.
Therefor friendly, helpful staff.
Little past glory. In our memory it was more luxurious, but there was a lot of old and broken.
Rustic hotel in the center of Groningen.
With a surprisingly quiet courtyard where they serve a good breakfast and a good meal.
Nice hotel, nice style. Very noisy, you can hear other guests as well as everything that happens outside on the street.
Breakfast was delicious and the beds were comfortable. Unfortunately, the one employee was not particularly nice and courteous ...
Friendly staff, good evening meal. Rooms are dated.
Our room was completely run down, smelled strange and the window had the wall of the neighboring house right in front of it. So there was hardly any daylight. The bathroom was old, ramshackle with water damage on the ceiling and a house wall about 50cm away in front of the window.
The price was not reasonable at all.
I enjoyed a delicious high tea. Service was excellent. The staff was wonderful. The only point is that I think the interior should have an update.
Romantic hotel with Victorian accents. Due to the older accents, the hotel has some defects. Think of overdue maintenance and not too clean rooms (read bathrooms). If you can see through this, it is a wonderful hotel. Big tip, the wine cellar is formidable and the service there as well.
The hotel is in a great location near the centre of Groningen and near to many bars, restaurants and a supermarket. It is 10-15 minutes walk from the bus and rail stations. The hotel is a bit old fashioned although does have a nice bar and patio area. The single room I stayed in was very cramped and you could barely use the toilet as it was wedged near the basin. That said by booking in advance it was cheap and the staff friendly.
Bit corny but enjoyed the high tea! Staff with qualities. Was absolutely great.
Had a lunch tasting via Het Laatste Tafeltje. Liked very well!
Nice terrace / courtyard, nicely decorated and good service.
Clean spacious room with marble floor (deluxe). Been 2 nights incl. Breakfast buffet with fresh rolls, slices of bread from the bakery, extensive toppings such as cheese and ham. boiled and fried egg, tea, coffee and fresh orange. 1x dinner and it was very good. The staff were very friendly. The location is in the center, but car free. You can reserve a parking space in the parking garage nearby through the hotel.
Nice location in the city center. Lots to do in the area. Rooms look neat. Friendly employees.
Very old building, little justice and even the floors are sloping, rooms are old and bathrooms are dated, needs updating or overhauling. We had a room with a whirlpool bath, everything let go and kit joints were open everywhere. Bad made a huge noise when it came on that you actually turned it off quickly because of nuisance.
If it doesn't start to be worth more in terms of costs and to spend so much money on it per night, then there are probably better alternatives to be found.
It is a pity that no maintenance is done, but it is a special location.
Super nice hotel. Centrally situated. Friendly staff. Delicious breakfast and super nice bubble bath !! We are happy to come and stay again.
Friendly help and nice that the waiter could tell you something about the history of the building. Food good, atmospheric. The table could be cleaned better and the floor under the table dirty.
Nice hotel, nice restaurant, good breakfast. Noisy at night.
Not great, bath tub unwashed on arrival, bird poop on the carpet in the hallway, dead insects scattered on the floors and room has big spiders. I. Requested clean sheets but bed was remade with dirty sheets. Dissatisfied in general. We did However get help from one lovely woman who works here. When complaining about the mess front desk merely shrugged shoulders and say sorry lady.... Honestly the singlemost horrible hotel. Simply dirty
Was not the price. For 17 I could get a hot breakfast / eat. Conclusion -> zero choice, no reasonable rolls and overall it just did not taste.
Okay but dated. Could use a makeover. Dinner and breakfast are fine. The jacuzzi was really a replacement.
