Nice cozy. Neat brasserie and restaurant.
We ate a Tasting for lunch. Very tasty.
Unfortunately they are less prepared for disabled people.
Entrance with three steps. And small toilets.

After a few years have been back in the same room (suite nr 1) but this hotel has its charms but is clearly in need of a makeover.

Location good. Parking expensive. Breakfast sober. No air conditioning in room. Rooms small and overdue maintenance. Old. TV with nine channels of which six do. Ned 1,2,3 a German channel a local channel and a movie channel. Price / quality not in proportion.

Nice place, lots of friendly staff. Very historic building, the single room was cozy. Some guests (or staff?) were very loud early in the morning, loud chatter, slamming doors. The second night my room was haunted by a strange sewage smell that made it difficult to sleep. Not sure why but there wasn't much I could do.

Nice hotel, although despite the good treatment and everything in general excellent, from my point of view is more dedicated to the restaurant than the hotel, because sometimes it seems that they do not care too much, the food is certainly magnificent.
The good thing is that it is in a beautiful city with its century-old clock tower in one square, and in another next to the Gothic cathedral / church with a nice and curious Baroque organ, or the museum that exhibits classical art or ceramics.

Beautiful building, beautiful garden terrace. We had to wait a long time for our food this time, and I thought it was far too little, it would be very stylish and hip, but I am actually coming for a good meal, not a hip plate ...

Cosy hotel, great ambiance and in the centre of city. Rooms are old and in need of maintenance but the price is correct.
We had a spacious suite for 150 per night. No view but large and with a jacuzzi. Well stocked minibar but the fridge is a bit noisy.
Breakfast buffet is ok, nothing special but for the delicious bread made in house. They should do an effort to present it a little better.
The terrace is a nice place, a shame the pigeons are so cheeky but you can't hold that against the hotel.

Hotel in the heart of the center. Beautiful building, some rooms are beautifully decorated in an authentic way. Do not expect modern luxury, but rather dated / classic rooms. Our room adjacent to the cozy courtyard was a bit noisy, because of the entrance to the rooms (somewhat noisy) and the cooing pigeons under the eaves. The breakfast room is beautiful, the breakfast is okay, but we have seen it more extensively and supplemented it better. Due to Covid-19, there are time slots for breakfast (which works fine), but you are looking for a table because the service clears too slowly and covers again.

Very cozy, nice staff, cozy, old details, delicious breakfast in an attractive indoor garden. The only downside was there was no air conditioning (and it was a scorching August weekend) and the windows couldn't all open ....

Stately but somewhat dated.
Parking lot is a crime.
Jacuzzi in the suite lovely but takes a long time (1 tap) before being filled.
Necessary maintenance to all areas; however, the hotel does exude the right atmosphere.
But why so careless on the road and why was the bucket and mop in the breakfast room not cleaned up?
In short, the finishing touch is occasionally missing

The Schimmelpenninck Huys is a great place for a business lunch. Historical ambiance. The menu is OK, the staff OK, but just not quite "finished" in all respects. It seems as if they are missing a passionate manager here.

You will find this hotel, restaurant and wine cellar right in the center of the most beautiful city in the Netherlands. Go to Groningen, book.

Let me start by saying that the location is great and the hotel has very nice rooms, friendly staff and a good cleaning crew.
Unfortunately the bubbles in the hot tub did not work, we indicated this to 3 different desk employees. Subsequently, in my opinion, no good solution has been found. They would pass it on to the technical service, but we were not offered any small compensation. Well, I am not easily dissatisfied, but if I pay 30-40 euros extra for a non-working bubble bath, a slight irritation starts to arise ...

Had wonderful high tea. You can also sit super in the garden in the summer.

Such a fancy, quiet but nice place. It's a place where you can get things straight while relaxing, but also the high tea is something I'd recommend!

The photos on the internet promised a lot. Unfortunately you will find mostly only photos of the lobby etc & from the rooms hardly anything. My expectations were accordingly high. Our room was a suite to the street with jacuzzi. Room was decorated with older furniture on an older style, which I liked. Unfortunately, something was missing the decoration or the love, eg with pictures. The jacuzzi was in the bathroom, the room itself was really uncomfortable, especially if you want to spend a nice evening in it. Light, decoration was missing. For the price you would have expected a bit more on the whole, but it was a nice experience. Room to the street was OK, but in the morning a bit noisy with open windows. Still, it was nice on the whole

The person is personal and friendly. These two stars are only available thanks to their good service. The toilets downstairs are disgusting (poo on the wall), taps are loose, all facilities could be refurbished. The decor also seems to be full of mothballs for years. Nice workshop, but I would definitely not eat and stay overnight if it is already so dirty in their public areas.

Clean rooms, 24h staff but furniture, decoration, plumbing and more could use a serious refitting. Some rooms are only accessible through outside walkways and precarious stairs.

Our first visit to this hotel & unfortunately the last one. Our first room (charm room) was extremely noisy, worn and not really clean. We understood every single word of the person passing by and we could hardly sleep. Our first room, since we moved after the first night. Price remained, size of the room a bit smaller & luckily in the direction of the courtyard, yet fair from my point of view. The buffet was manageable and not lush, just so okay. The location is really great & the staff very nice and took care of my concerns immediately. For us only unfortunately in the kind of not the right hotel ..

Nice hotel in the center of the city. Excellent and friendly staff, nice breakfast, nice lounche, wine bar and restaurant and then only 3 stars. Well, in the end it is about the overnight stay and the night's rest. Well then don't book the side rooms directly on the alley. They are noisy, the beds have sagged a bit (especially the extra bed for a child was very bad) and all night long, talking, singing and sometimes screaming students pass by. The last ones I remembered came by at around 5:30 am. You don't sleep a wink. And not completely free. I can't find a cheap room for 3 people with breakfast for 150.

Due to the entry regulations, I was unable to start my trip (in October 2020) because the numbers in Groningen were far higher than in other regions and it was declared a risk area. The hotel had no understanding for this and did not accommodate me in any way. I couldn't postpone my booking and then had to hear that the corona crisis is not new and that people have been prepared for it for months. Nobody was interested in the fact that Groningen had become a Corona hotspot at precisely that time! I would not have expected such uncomfortable, incomprehensible and cheeky behavior, after all I have been to the hotel a few times, but now I will avoid it.

We had a wonderful room with a jacuzzi. Moreover, we have eaten here twice fantastic. The breakfast is also good, with delicious bread, fresh fruit, etc. There is a beautiful inner garden. The staff is very nice.

We have been there for a high tea. Service was polite and friendly. We generally had to wait a long time for the food and drink. Quality of the snacks was good! Great atmosphere, decent guests too. At one point, jazz-like music was turned on. Was a nice playful addition to the atmosphere.

The most expensive room (suite) booked for Valentine's Day, the jacuzzi turns out not to work, the reception acts as if they know nothing but the service knows that of both rooms it is broken !! Afterwards received a small amount back on a large amount ... no we will not go here anymore !!!!!!!

We went to the Schimmelpenninghuis in March, when we had problems with hot water.
Reported this complaint to the chef by email.
We were offered an overnight stay plus breakfast as compensation.
To our surprise, this was a super room (bridal suite) with jacuzzi.
A box of chocolates, with a friendly note!
Fantastic how they dealt with this complaint, We were not after this and for us a surprise.

Had a great night. Friendly staff and great location in the center of Groningen.

Nice, clean, good breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff

So far the worst check-in experience. We have not booked in advance since there were rooms available on all platforms including the hotel own website - when we came the reception lady told they are full. So we had to make booking via phone to get the room - this way the price was 10 EUR higher than on official website and it cost us extra effort and time which is precious when you travel with 2 months old which cost 10 EUR extra for nothing since they do not provide cot. We asked for check-out at 12 (standard is 11), but the same lady told it cost 20 EUR extra. The room we got is noisy, extremely small and can t be 20m2 as advertised and there is no fresh air - when you open window you hear lots of noise from the yard and it s close to busy bars street. Could it be worse? I doubt and wound not recommend anybody since they don t respect guests and it s unfriendly not only to babies but to parents as well

Very nice inside, they also have an inside garden and the coffee was good.

Three-day workshop followed. Nice property. Well prepared lunch.

The Schimmelpenninck Huys is a beautiful old town villa that is in use as a hotel. This three-star hotel was beautifully decorated in a Christmas atmosphere; hotel management pays a lot of attention to this.
The staff are very friendly and helpful; the reception is warm. Parking is a thing. The hotel offers private parking in a garage ( 18.50 per day). But how do you get to your destination in this city center. Plenty of road signs, cars on cycle streets, etc. A signpost can be found on the hotel website.
Too bad that the real maintenance of the hotel leaves something to be desired! Floor covering with scuffs, damaged paintwork (doors, window frames, banister dining room). In my experience, a historic garden looks different from the courtyard. A good design plan may well be made and implemented for this.
Schimmelpenninck Huys is definitely worth a visit to Groningen; beautiful city.

Location is top. Right in the center.

The hotel is quite dated, can be nice. Breakfast was nice, buffet style. Rooms, nice. Was a bath too.

Only downside was that the reception had promised bitterballen at the bar, and at the bar downstairs it was not possible to make them, because it had to be upstairs. Miscommunication. Then the service went to get a story at the reception, stayed away for minutes.
After that I personally spoke with a popie Jopie in a suit with a red tie who came to explain exactly what was going on. "The reception told you this, but that is not possible, here the kitchen is closed, but it is open upstairs. We will turn it on again, but that will take a while." (not worded literally)
As a guest you could very well notice that there was an error in the hotel, and that is actually not the intention. Make sure the guest doesn't notice. I felt a lot of trouble.

This problem also had several solutions. I didn't think this one was the best.

We had booked a high tea with three former colleagues. The soup was brought, was it not told what it was, difficult to define, mustard or asparagus soup? I'm not used to that. Also nothing was told when the storey was brought, what first etc. My 3 colleagues had never done a high tea. Explanation always seems good to me, even though you know what to do with. So bad reference on my part. If it were a number, it would be 4.5

I can say nothing but bad. No attention, wrong dish served, two ingredients were missing from the other dish. I got half a smoothie over my shoes without apologies. Not recommended.

In the center, this "classic" hotel built around a courtyard. Lots of marble, copper, stained glass and beautiful Jugendstil ornaments. Chandeliers and table lamps of cut glass. Bar, lounge, breakfast room and brasserie with great seating comfort. Hotel room: ditto. In short: we enjoyed our stay and give the 5 stars without any hesitation.
