Even if it is grand, it is a cozy hotel. However, there is only one C-compatible power plug in the room. It may be a hotel for travelers in Europe.

One of the best hotel stays I've ever had, staff were attentive and helpful without being intrusive. The location is an oasis in the storm that is Surabaya. Some of the room fittings were a little idiosyncratic but that adds to the old colonial feel. Most of the buildings are >100 years old and it shows. I can stay in skyscrapers anywhere in the world. This place has colonnades surrounding beautifully kept gardens - stunning.
I'd definitely stay here again if I'm back in Surabaya.

We took our wedding photos here back in '99 and have been back at least a dozen times since and have always enjoyed our visits. The history and beauty of this hotel is unparalleled in Indonesia, rooms well appointed and comfortable, and the restaurants are great, especially like the pub and dimsum resto. Only recommendation would be to add a bit of music on the grounds and pool area. We'll be back every time we're in Surabaya.
