Just one of the coolest buildings in chicago...period. It's not just a night's stay...it's an adventure! Be sure to check out the ball rooms, the vintage pool area, the lounge on the 32nd floor with an incredible view on Michigan ave. (I used to do my homework here when I was in college.) Such a cool place really close to other very cool places!

Stayed at this hotel with all of my co-workers and boss. My boss made it clear not once, not twice, but three times he was paying for all of the rooms. When he called to make the reservation, he put his card on file. When we checked in, the person at the desk asked for a card to put on file for incidentals only. Long story short, everyone that was on the trip had their account charged multiple times, for multiple amounts. One of my co-workers had 1,200 taken out of her account in three separate transactions. The people working there could not explain why cards were charged and for all separate amounts at different times. Thankfully, it has all been resolved, but not without a fight. If you are putting a card on file and are expecting someone else to pay for it, be prepared to have your account charged.

Was overall very underwhelmed by my experience here. I was expecting to be able to refrigerate food from restaraunts, but there's no personal mini fridge, just a mini bar with a small section (and I mean SMALL) for personal use. Removing any items from the mini bar would result in being charged for said item. I ended up putting my refrigerated items in the small bathroom trash can and covering the containers with ice. NOT the experience I was hoping for in a hotel at this price point. Might as well have stayed in a Best Western.

Location is great. Bed is very comfortable.

Edit: Originally gave a three star review, am going to bump it down to 2 for the following reason: I booked through hotwire. When I arrived at the hotel there seemed to be some sort of technical glitch where the hotwire reservation didn't go through. To fix it, the hotel made me a reservation and charged me again without telling me they were doing so. What?

Rooms are a bit small, amenities are lacking, and there are obvious corners cut to save time and money (no caulking around the shower head...not even a cap). The sheets are arranged in a very odd way.... Mattress pad, fitted sheet, comforter, another fitted sheet, only sideways.

Not bad, per se, just odd.

The pool is awesome, though. Staff is also very friendly and courteous. Room service is exorbitantly priced for the things to get in a hotel with this free amenities. Seriously, $12 for a bowl of oatmeal?

Clean, comfortable, and accommodating. Centrally located to a lot of attractions and restaurants. There is a Starbucks and Michael Jordan s Steakhouse right in the Hotel. Don t hesitate to stay here. Staff is great.

Very nice, as you would expect for an Intercontinental. Food was great in Michael Jordan's Bar ( opted for the bar and not steakhouse). Only rated it a 4 because I could clearly hear the people in the next room and had a faulty toilet fill valve that kept running every 10 minutes or so. I notified the front desk but it was never fixed.

For those individuals for whom minibar meals are standard fare, this is the hotel for you. As for the rest of us, I imagine an experience like this:
After you spend hundreds of dollars for a lovely dinner at the attached Michael Jordan Steakhouse and cram your leftovers into the available "personal" section of the mini fridge (by some Marie Kondo origami miracle), do not forget that you can have it rewarmed by room service when those night time cravings hit- "for a fee".
Prior to booking, we requested (and were promised) a refrigerator as my daughter requires allergen-free food. Upon arrival, we were told to remove the items from the minibar and use that as the refrigerator, and assured that they would "place a note on our account". It was highly annoying and inconvenient that we had to empty the fridge of small bottles, sodas and more and find a safe place to store these items so that they would all be accounted for at checkout- especially considering that moving even one item for more than 30 seconds triggers the system to charge your account. The minibar was extremely shallow, leaving a space barely large enough to accommodate a venti coffee "for personal use", and even once the items were removed, the shelves would not hold a takeout container and were too small to accommodate the Tupperware we brought. It would certainly not be sufficient room to accommodate more than a handful of snacks for a child or any leftover restaurant food. Additionally, it was not cold enough, and we discovered in the morning that the temperature of the fridge rendered our food unsafe to eat. We purchased additional items at Whole Foods to replace the costly food, only to find once we returned that there was no microwave for use anywhere in the facility, but that room service would warm it up "for a fee". With my daughter's allergies, allowing someone unknown to handle, transport, and warm up her food in a communal microwave (as opposed to one that we can clean ourselves) is not an option. We ended up buying a cooler for the items we purchased and researching and gambling on restaurants that promised they could accommodate my daughter's allergy needs.
We awoke the morning of our final day to find a multi-page itemized bill totaling more than $800 for each item in the minibar. When we called down to inquire about the bill, we were instructed to replace all of the items in the minibar and then visit the front desk, who would cancel the charges. Though it may seem like a minor annoyance, restocking the fridge was just the last in a series of inconveniences that sidelined our plans and consumed our sightseeing time. As any parent of a child with allergies knows, vacations which normally require a lot of pre-planning are doubly time consuming when your child has specific dietary needs and meals must be taken into account. It seemed like we spent more of our vacation trying to weave together the plans that unraveled due to the broken promises from this hotel than we did enjoying the city we came to visit.
However, the experience itself wasn't all bad.
I am rating three stars for the following reasons:
1. The staff were exemplary, and many of them had vibrant personalities- Ronald Johnson, a bellman, was one of the highlights of our stay and demonstrated exceptional customer service.
2. The facility was clean and well-maintained. Our beds were tightly made each day and the cleaning staff was attentive to our needs.
3. The fitness center and pool are truly beautiful and the fitness center was suitable for anyone from soccer moms to meatheads. They also had free bicycles available to check out, which is a nice amenity. The only problem is that they are first-come, first-serve and you may keep them all day. If all 6 bicycles are checked out by the time you inquire, it is unlikely that you will have a chance to use one.

My wife and I spent three nights here at the hotel. I am writing to review after one night's stay. Check in was seamless and front desk staff was friendly, polite and helpful. The lobby was beautiful and conveyed a grand feeling as you enter the hotel. There was a lively beat to hotel, there were back-to-back weddings at the hotel two nights in a row while we were there. We ate at Michael Jordan's Steakhouse. Service and food were acceptably good. Guest room was in good condition. It is roomy with large windows, and looks well kept. The hallways were also well maintained, and elevators worked well and reasonably quickly. We were on the 20th floor, and despite that there was quite a bit of street noise. Likely enhanced sound proofing would be beneficial. However noise level inside Hotel was at a minimum and we did have restful sleep.

Great Hotel really well located on the magnificent mile. When booking a room, try to go for one in the executive Tower which was renovated last year. The rooms offer all the amenities needed including a huge Samsung TV. The staff is very attentive and extremely friendly and helpful. A big compliment to them since they are the face guests see most. The Hotel has a very good Michael Jordan Steakhouse which is as good as many of the much more expensive Steak Houses all over Chicago. The Restaurant also offers a large variety of local craft beer divided into four categories. Unfortunately, the dark ones were all out when we dined but the other ones were excellent too. If you have the time you can pick up an iPod from reception and do a walk of the artwork in the Hotel. I recommend it. This is a Hotel I will definitely return to when in Chicago. If you want to go shopping, everything you need is only a walk away. And, talking of walks, there are plenty of nice opportunities all around the Hotel.

We stayed at a room in the executive tower, which is roughly 30% larger than rooms in the Classic Tower. We loved our room as it was adorned in a modern way, get the hotel still retained its classical field. Staff was extremely friendly and the location is A+ to major shopping and landmarks in the Miracle Mile area of town.

Everyone from the bellman and even security guard were extra welcoming. We had a great family weekend in the city and the holiday touches like Santa s workshop in the lobby are really cute! We ordered room service hot cocoa, milk &cookies and they were amazing! We will be back next year to kick off holiday season.

A++!

Lots of ornate detail in the architecture and interior design of the building, but very modern hotel rooms. Floors of conference space accommodating anywhere from 20-200 people. Would definitely be interested in coming back for a personal stay.

WOW!!!! The Intercontinental lives up to my expectations. The entrance is a fantastic 1920s welcome & only the beginning to the rest of the property. I stayed on 38 in the Executive Tower in a 2 room suite. The bathroom was large with a nice bath & separate shower. The bedroom was spacious with its king bed with views of Lake Michigan, Chicago River, DuSable Bridge, The Wrigley Bldg, & Trump Tower. The living/dining room was spacious but felt a bit constricted. We were obviously in a southern facing room... I can imagine the city view would be good too. Now, let's get to the Fitness center....with its 3 levels & many ways to stay in good health & its regal pool with its 1920's architecture unbelievably maintained. The only 2 problems I had was ice 8 floors away & lack of a refrigerator. Otherwise, WOW!!!!!

Avoid. Rooms are tiny, old and tired. Hotel staff seems upset they have to be there. No desire to resolve problems or provide a good experience. Reservations are not honored (see below).

We reserved and paid for a larger room with 2 beds, because there were 4 of us saying. Upon arrival, only smaller one-bed rooms were available. I complained and asked how this was possible. Nobody cared. I told them I would pay more if needed. Nobody cared.

The city was booked because this was a holiday. We were forced to stay. The pictures online are misleading. The room is like what you would see at a freeway motel last remodeled in 1990. We were cramped and uncomfortable. There weren t enough places for us to sleep. Ugh.

The location on the Magnificent Mile is great. Other than that, this property has no redeeming qualities.

My family and I travel frequently and Chicago is a favorite of ours, but staying at this hotel can really ruin your trip.

We were disappointed in what was supposed to be a luxury hotel. The room was one of the smallest I have ever stayed in. The bathroom had stains along the wall with the sink, and the access panel under the sink was not secured allowing view of the plumbing and the various debris that accumulated in the space. Any amenities cost extra. There was a fee for internet, based on time and speed of the service. A fee to use the fitness center. You name it, there was a fee for it. If you wanted glassware, you had to call and ask. One ice machine, so you had to go to a different floor to get ice. The elevators are pretty small, so if it is a busy time, be prepared to wait, particularly if you have your luggage.
Based on the luxury billing, I expected more amenities, and for them to be included.
Oh, if you are sensitive to fragrances, beware. They keep their lobby highly perfumed.

My favorite place to stay in Chicago. You can't beat the location and the hotel is very nice. I would recommend booking a suite when staying here so you have enough space as a standard room is a little small but is typical of Chicago.

Room was nice, bathroom not as nice as the bathrooms of other members of our party, they did leave the previous persons drink in the mini-fridge. But overall nice cleans rooms, and friendly staff

Nice rooms. Can be loud from sirens, etc even on the highest floors.

Bar is not great. Layout is poor for meeting colleagues, conference attendees, friends. Dark, dingy, hard to get around for a bar in an otherwise upscale hotel.

I was here on a business trip all expenses paid from my sponsor and my credit card was still charged for unknown reason. I called accounting, no apologies or anything. Now i have to wait 3 to 5 business days to get my money back. No wait for them to get double their money. Pay close attention to your card when staying here. For me the wait wasnt a crisis but for my coworker that lives on a fixed budget it was a big deal. This can affect peoples lives in a big way.

We paid almost 400 for our room and it was NOT worth the money at all. The room was smaller than any hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was decorated very vintage like - my grandma probably decorated it. It was a cleaner version of a Super 8, basically. You have to pay 20 dollars for wifi, which is SO stupid. Half of the other hotels give you it for free. Parking is overpriced - $60 a night. Also, around midnight we walked out onto the front of the hotel and there was a drunk guy harassing us and a group of girls. We eventually went inside to tell security and they finally came out 5 minutes later....and then blamed it on us! They still took the guy inside - never saw him again. The lobby is really the only extravagant part. The rest of the hotel does not match. The floor we stayed on was super small. I suggest staying at the Intercontinental O'hare, which is brand new and cheaper - and decorated very modern and way better than this piece of crap hotel. The gift shop is overpriced as well - $10 for a small ice cream? REALLY? It's pathetic.

While the staff and lobby are excellent the room was not well kept up. The bathroom wall was rotting and stapled into place. Small to standard room size. I did like the pillow selection, though! The Starbucks in the lobby was convenient, however.

I was just at the InterContinental Chicago a month ago when I was visiting to collect a painting from an art seller. Fabulous hotel, and the staff were exceptionally sweet. I was able to safely secure and store my art valuables while in Chicago at the hotel. Thank you InterContinental.
