Booked 4 flight flights with them. Not one was on time. One flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong had no tablet or wifi. All they had was news paper for a 14 hour flight ( which I can t Chinese). I had to rebook all my transportation and hotels on all my destinations. The staff is unprepared and very shifty and evasive. You will always lose more than you save with Hong Kong Airlines in money and dignity.

The experience of flying with Hong Kong Airlines is very bad. In addition to the extremely simple meals on the Taiwan and Hong Kong aircrafts (hot dog meal packs + a glass of water), the team members are also not friendly to the fans and cannot be done freely in the public space of the aircraft Video records (no crew members are captured, so no privacy issues). It should be a very unpleasant memory that I should not choose this flight again next time.
Not recommended at all. Flew from Hong Kong to Beijing Capital on HX304 operated on a 9 years old A330, in business class. The cabin has old seats with no separation, 2-2-2 pattern. The ticket cost USD 800+ I have honestly never seen a cabin that is as dirty as this one. Parts of the cabin panels are broken, seat parts are broken, baggage trays are broken and it all seems like it has been left like this for months. I hope they at least follow maintenance guidelines on the critical parts. See pictures. Food is really low level, very much like what you generally find in economy, drinks choices as well. Not what you would expect. Only positive thing is the flight attendants are very nice and helpful.
Backward and overbearing and rude staff in both Narita and Hong Kong
Today 06/01/2017 when delivering the bags, the operator was able to get the ITINERARY to enter Japan while at the Hong Kong airport.
It took us around 10 minutes and we were unable to access LATAM and the return route was not available either.
MANAGER KELLIE YU yelled at us saying that we were not going to board and we would be ashore. All the time he spoke to us screaming and trying to humiliate. He asked us for a credit card instead of helping us locate our flight to Chile with Latam.
It is not a decent treatment and it is discriminatory not to find a solution and threaten us all the time.
Always late, never leaves on time. This one time they made us wait for 2 hours on the plane, after an hour an a half late, then send everybody home to comeback the day after, only to find out they are 4 more hours late again!
Hong Kong Airlines has always provided me with affordable airfare, comfortable seating; and above & beyond customer service. Always willing to go the extra mile to help me as a customer. I Reccomend Hong Kong Airlines very highly and strongly.
Airfare is relatively cheaper than its competitors. Cleanliness is generally Ok except for the washroom. Water in the basin goes very slow, it looks gross. Meals are edible.... lots of room to improve... portion is small. They do not serve drinks and food often, but one is allowed to pick up snack and drinks from the back of the flight. Attendants are nice and pretty.... .... quite friendly.
Highly not recommend! Plane is not designed for long haul flight! No built-in entertainment system for a 14 hours flight!! The available iPad has preloaded outdated movies and lack of flight information and games. Even worse, the iPad was out of battery in 11 hours. Totally not solving the missing built-in entertainment system purpose! The returning flight was a nightmare! I had to wait 50 minutes for checking in because the Hong Kong Airport staffs are working slowly! I was already at the airport two hours before the flight and had no time grabbing breakfast because the wasted check in time as well as other long lineups at the airport restaurants and food court. I wish I know I need another hour for checking in before heading to the airport! There were chicken or fish choices for the first meal. The airline management seems to overestimated on the fish popularity. Chickens were gone before even reaching row 27! Those who sat near me didn't even bother touching the fish in the meal! This is poorly arranged! The pizza toast in flight snack was not enough for all passengers. Had to stay hungry until the second meal is served! This airline expects everyone sleeping on a noon departure flight? I wish I was able to book with Cathay Pacific but no seat was available on my return date! This is the only time I will fly with Hong Kong Airlines because of the poor management and cheap on the plane amenities!
The flight to Hong Kong was not terrible, the flight back (HX 068) was worse. Both lacked the level of service from American carriers. The plane was terribly warm and there are no individual vents to be able to control your seat temperature. On top of that, I felt dehydrated getting out of the plane, And drinks to include water were non existent. Most airlines will at last give you the entire can of whatever to drink, you get 3/4 of a glass per serving. Both ways lacked the opportunity for alcohol.
The food was decent, but they feed you a hour after take off and a hour before arrival. Nothing in between. It took forever for the stewardesses to pick up the trays and I must have been dozing when they did come by as my tray was still there and I was scrambling to get rid of it when we were about to land.
Booking had its challenges too. Because they did not seat my wife and I together on the flight there, I had to pay extra for economy plus. In most airlines, economy plus means extra leg room and biz class food /drinks, HK air only gives you the e xtra leg room. On the return, I wanted the economy plus because I hyper extended my knee on vacation and was in terrible pain needing some extra room to stretch my legs. While they did have the seats, because I did not coordinate this via their call center, The attendant in the airport could not do it. They would sell me a upgrade to buisiness class for HK $7000 (approx $1000 USD) however that I declined.
On the return I asked the attendant checking us in in HK if we would have to pick up our bags to clear customs at LAX or if our bags would go through to Dallas, he told us they would go through to Dallas. Now, I get to spend the day driving from OKC to Dallas and back to get our 3 bags. Oh joy. At no time were we able to check in online either that is frustrating.
The flight attendants were pleasant, but again, not always there.
The carrier they used for our domestic flights however was exceptional, Alaska Airlines.
This is my first and last Hong Kong air flight, and I recommend to those reading to look beyond the savings of the flight. 13 hours is a long way for mediocre service.
The toilet has awful smell, worse than public toilet. Even I m the first one who use the toilet. It didn t clean anymore, the paddle still has the urine spot and the floor is sticky.
The airplane is very old with small seats. The toilet is dirty with sticky floor. The food is awful, even the omelette has a wired taste. No tea and coffee offered in my long way journey. I won t take this company s flight anymore.
I have flown two routes with Hong Kong Airlines so far and was very happy with the offer. The flight duration was three to four hours in each case, in which surgery was carried out with wide-body aircraft (A330). The food and the service was good, there was also a modern IFE with current content. Compared to the offer of European airlines (also flag carriers) on comparable route lengths, you feel indulged.
1. Poor ground handling attitude when checking in 2. Rough baggage delivery 3. The onboard audio-visual entertainment system is broken, affecting the rights of passengers 4. Breakfast on long-haul flights is not good
