Amazing programming, 70mm special screenings, non-profit, mix of new releases and esoteric cinefile treasures. Especially love events like live voice actors reading unreliable translations of odd never-subtitled foreign B movies. Hilarious fun!

Simply the best theater experience in Portland. Consistanly solid tap list plus Salt and straw ice cream at the consession stand. They show deep cut rarities and more often than not will have a actor or director come in for a Q&A as a kicker. The whole package is wrapped up in an amazingly well maintained theater from 1926. If you haven't been you're missing out on a serious Portland gem.

Beem coming here since age 3, with parents, so 62 years total. One of the most beautiful theaters in Portland. Saw Sound of Music 1st run in 70mm as a child. I still have the hardbound book my dad bought me, which accompanied the film. Still a top theater to enjoy older films.

I had an amazing time at this theater. It's amazing on the inside and out. The owners took great care to retro fit this place and it feels great. The movies they play are just as awesome and you can find some of the greatest on 70mm. If you want a great night in a great place, then you should definitely check then out and their schedule of movies.

My favorite indie theater in Portland. Beer and pizza at theaters is now common, but what The Hollywood brings to the table is not just indie films, but also great events and special showings, like themed films, cult classics, and special prints of rare cuts. They also do a lot of 70mm showings, if you're into that sort of thing. Their new partnership with Movie Madness shows their crucial place in providing serious film fans with their fix in Portland.

What a great Portland icon and the movies they get are rare and fun most of the time but that's just my opinion.
Also maybe have the employees be less rude when you talk to them. It is odd to order food and get annoyed looks and ask for confirmation of what theater your movie is in and told there is a sign over there.
Of course this is Portland!

This classic theater may be the reason this area of Portland Oregon is called the historic "Hollywood District". The building is unbelievable. From the overall architecture to the intricate, sculpted facade with it's equally detailed, paint scheme, it is breathtaking and a must see if you visit Portland. Unfortunately I was not there at a time when the interior was accessible, but the upcoming attraction billboards looked like a combination of films and live performances. This theater is clearly a reflection of "The Arts" in every way.

Beautiful old theater, serving up eclectic, indy and period films for the not so average movie viewer. With a nice selection of food and libations to choose from. Decent prices. Definitely worth a visit.

We've been to Hollywood twice, but have yet to see a movie. Apparently there is no system in place to keep people from just walking into movies without paying - both times we've been we've had to get refunds because there are no seats available. Apparently people either move from movie to movie, or just walk right in and go see what they want. Even showing up 15 minutes early to the show, we could not find a seat in the place - Incredibly frustrating!

Gosh we'd love to see a movie in such a cool movie house, but I think we're done trying at this place. Let us know when you figure out how to make sure paying customers get what they paid for!

Great theater in the old movie house style, but upgraded. Seating is not the fancy recliner style that newer theaters have but there is a counter running along the front of each row so you can put your food or drink down. They serve pizza which comes from the pizza place next door, I think it's Sizzle Pie. My only negative is that my slice was quite stale, no sizzle at all. I think it had been sitting out for a while. As a consequence, I will probably not buy pizza there again. Other than that I do enjoy going there.

This theater is a gem. My wife and I have had so many wonderful experiences here, from fundraisers to new movies to private parties and screenings. Even though this is an historic theater, they keep up with new technology and are one of the few theaters in Portland to offer 70mm movies!

Help keep Hollywood Theater alive during Covid and support them any way you can!

Such a great place to see movies! I love that they show 35mm films and all kinds of seemingly-random movies that you'd never see in a theater otherwise. Drinks and snacks are very reasonably priced and the pizza (made by Atomic Pizza) is so good! They even have Salt & Straw ice cream.

I've lived in Portland since 2012 and this was my first trip to The Hollywood Theatre; they were showing a 35mm copy of Scanners with Michael Ironside in the audience. He did a Q&A after the movie and it was awesome.

I missed my chance to see The Hateful Eight in 70mm, but the fact that they had it is amazing enough. I love the screen and the layout of the seats. The concessions are great. Just a great place to go if you want to see some interesting things and not just the mainstream stuff.

An absolute gem of a theatre completely devoted to the art of cinema. One of the last places to play 35 mm and 80 mm films of both the latest release and the most delightful obscurity. Attending their monthly film presentations like Grindhouse or Kung Fu theatre is a bargain basement master's class in film knowledge. Great popcorn. Protip: the pizza isn't worth the crazy lines.

Kung Fu flicks. B Movie roasts. Retro classics that haven't seen the big screen in decades. The new, the strange, the forgotten, and the relevant. Plus pitchers of brew and pizza for pocket change. Franchise theaters can't compare to this.

I was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming atmosphere and standard, but high quality sound system. Took a date, got lucky, I can say that some of that luck came from going to the right place. Thanks Hollywood theater!

It's the greatest theatre I have ever been to. Movies are still alive here. I have seen several films on 70mm, dozens of classics on 35mm and even got to meet Pam Grier! I drive 170 miles to visit this theater and it is well worth the trip.

One of the best places in Portland to see a movie!! I love the atmosphere and the variety of movies they show always keeps me coming back. It's always fun to drive by and see what's currently showing on the marquee.

I've been going to the Hollywood Theater ever since I was allowed to go out to see movies with my friends when I was a kid. I saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles here in a double feature with Tremors for $1.50! Before it was renovated in 1975, it was one large theater with a balcony, but since has been split to a main theater on the ground level, with two smaller theaters upstairs. It still has the charm of its original architecture & facade, while offering up new fun! They host great events, such as shows in Hecklevision, B-Movie Bingo & Kung-fu Theater. The Hollywood Theater is the only building in Portland to have its own neighborhood named after it, changed from Hollyrood to Hollywood District not long after the original theater opening in 1926. If you get a chance, stop by for a show. You won't be disappointed!

A great vintage theater that shows classic and new movies with comfortable seats at reasonable prices. Serves real food and drinks plus theater junk food. It's everything I want in a movie theater. Looking forward to attending fun events and festivals.

I LOVE this theater for playing older films (ex. Infra-Man) and for hosting the African Film Fest, as well as for great service, clean floor, comfortable seats and a reasonable price.

I also appreciate them hosting unique experiences like live organ accompaniment to silent films and music fests like the recent 10 year anniversary of Psychic Sounds.

This beautiful cinema theater is being lovingly restored to its former glamour. Good screens, sound systems and seating. Many rows have a table for food & drinks, which is nice, but there is also a corresponding level of occasional minor distraction.

The best theater in town. Classic movies, first run indie flicks, great popcorn, beer and wine. Being a member is awesome and totally worth it, we go about 3 times a month and it pays for itself. They even recently upgraded their pizza to sizzle pie

Classic theater charm with all the modern amenities. There is a decent tap list with mead and cider as well as beer. The popcorn is tasty and they use real butter on it. If the bottom snack bar is just you can go to the upstairs one with no waiting. They serve Sizzle Pie pizza, which is some of the best in town. The Hollywood shows first run films as well as classics. There is always something good to see. I really love this place. Glad to see something from old Portland that will survive.
