We took a ton of bids for our basement remodeling job, and ultimately chose Hivex. They were the absolute right choice, and I'm glad we hired them. Hivex is extremely thorough and was able to complete the project in the timeframe that they provided. Communication with the company was great and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to ANYONE looking to have a basement remodel done.
Overall, Hivex is an excellent company that has above average communication and fantastic quality workmanship. For anyone looking to get a basement finished, they are a great choice. Hivex provides some great things such as emails that tell you what phase they are beginning (i.e. Drywall phase) as well as some great handouts at the start of the project that give an overview of the process.
However, you need to keep in mind that they do not fully finish basements. They make this clear from the start so it was not a surprise. They do not do any painting (other than a primer coat) nor do they do flooring.
We only had a few small mis-communications that could have been avoided had we reviewed our entire contract with our project manager at the start of the work. For example, we had in the contract a glass panel door at the top of the stairs as well as a new handrail. These both seemed to surprise our project manager. Also, we used IKEA cabinets and knew from contract that we would either have to assemble them ourselves or pay $50 per cabinet. Once assembled they would hang them and do the trim work. But they do not hang the doors. That was not made clear in the contract.
I would suggest asking Hivex for a list of flooring and painting companies that they would recommend at the start of the project. We painted ourselves to save some money and had a local guy install our floors. But, it would have been nice to coordinate getting the painting and flooring done at certain times. For example, if you can get your painting company to do the bathroom before Hivex adds the toilet, vanity, etc. that would be ideal.
The last thing to keep in mind is that they may be a bit slower than other companies. They were well within the time-frame that they gave us (8-12 weeks). But, because they do not contract anything out, their crews have to travel from job to job which takes a lot of coordination and some extra time.
Hivex was moderately priced and did fantastic work. If you go into the project with an understanding of what they do and don't offer, you will be very satisfied. They are a great company that does great quality work.
Its been just over two years since we had the honor of working with HIVEX in the completion of our basement. I consider them the REAL A TEAM. It was like the reconnaissance team came in , accessed then came the infantry, next, mission accomplished! Great job guys!

They were easy to work with, friendly, professional, and did awesome work. There were only a couple tiny issues I had and the owner himself came out and it was fixed immediately. My experience using HIVEX far exceeded my expectations. My project included finishing about 2000 SF of unfinished basement. This included a family room, crafts room, full bath with walk-in shower and wet bar. From the moment I made contact with their staff to schedule an appointment for an estimate through project completion the HIVEX team were professional and respectful of my ideas, wants and of course my home. HIVEX was true to their word by providing an estimate at the initial meeting. They took the time to really listen to our wants. They walked the space and provided recommendations. All the other contractors that I was considering required up to 4 weeks to provide an estimate. I found their estimate to very competitive, so we decided to enlist their service. I should point out that I am not an easy customer. My expectations are high. What really put me at ease and this was proven throughout the project was the fact that HIVEX does not use sub contractors. Their trades are their employees and from what I know they have been with HIVEX for a long time. Knowing that put me at ease. HIVEX provided a project schedule that provided flexibility yet kept them on track and us informed. The project manager was very responsive. My calls or inquiries were addressed in a prompt manner and the project manager was on site daily checking on progress. I can't say enough about this company. HIVEX is truly a top notch QUALITY company that I would recommend to anyone seeking to finish their basement. If you give HIVEX a chance they won't disappoint you.

Three years ago, HIVEX finished a remaining unfinished portion of our basement into the bar/man cave and we are so happy that we chose HIVEX! During the initial consultation, they listened to our ideas and made suggestions of alternatives that improved both functionality and resulted in cost savings. HIVEX was wonderful to work with, from their excellent customer service to their workmanship and professionalism. The project was completed early and focused on providing the least disruption to us while performing the job by putting a key lock on the basement door and entering through the outside basement door. In one instance, a correction had to be made from our original plan and they gladly made corrections as needed. We would highly recommend HIVEX and based on our recommendation, one of our friends used their services and were also pleased with the results. We hired Hivex to install a large family room and bathroom in our unfinished basement, along with a pantry, closet, and new exterior door. Overall, we are thrilled with this company and would hire them again! We really appreciated the thoroughness of their work and that they worked with us to keep our tight budget on track. During the initial quote/paperwork process, the owner, Dan, provided several suggestions of items to cut to keep us on budget that we were happy to do ourselves (contrast this with another company that provided us a quote, who constantly tried to upsell and add-on work). And they didn't nickel-and-dime us, which took a lot of stress out of the project and really earned our trust.
The project was completed on time and fairly smoothly. There were a few minor issues, things that held up the project a bit, normal stuff that you'd expect with any construction job of this scale - but Bob, our project manager, resolved them to our satisfaction, and was thorough about wrapping up several lingering details of our project. After many years we finally decided to have our basement finished. We spoke with several companies, but could not find the right fit until Hivex. The owner guy just came my home to make an estimate to my basement project which was half done by other irresponsible contractor who stopped working and tried to rip me off. I told him what had done so far and what has to be done. Instead he tried to listen, he tried to intimidate and overpower me with very arrogant manner. He suddenly stopped and said he doesn't want to do it and even insult me saying that no wonder no one wants to do your job. He behaved to me like a half crazy arrogant man. I don't recomand any one to hire him. If you see him and talk to him you will know what I am saying. Worst experience ever with any contractor. Don't even think about having him.in your house.

We contracted HIVEX to complete our basement that has been an eyesore since we bought our home in 2009. We came up with a general idea of what we wanted and they came in and gave us even more options and better solutions. They were completely professional in there everyday operations and communications via phone and email. They did an amazing job on every part of the build out. From having to cut in a evacuation window to adding extra reinforcement for tv mounts. Every time we come into our basement we cant believe that this in part of our house now.

Hivex did a great job. The workers that they have are great. They take pride in what they do and it shows! Only con was sometimes communication was a bit off but once we connected things were handled better then expected. Best thing was the price stated in the beginning was it much easier to budget for.

Only complaint would be that it sometimes took longer than I would have liked to hear back regarding questions during the basement remodel. HIVEX explains this as they are taking care of their employees so they take care of us. This was evident throughout the project.

I'm really not sure if my review ever got posted? Coming from out of town moving to Virginia knew nothing about contractors around this area. When I purchase my home my basement was pretty much an open slate. I had no concept of what I wanted to do. With that I had several contractors they gave me the same speech but wasn't happy. I must say from top to bottom this company is soiled. Even though I had last minute changes and add on it was done. I thought they warranty was going to be sketchy had one plumbing issue they came out the next day. So if you looking for quality work with people who on the understand what they're doing this is the company for you no sales pitch my basement is featured on some of the pictures. HIVEX basement is first class, from the time of the first estimate until it was finished they did everything flawlessly. During the process they gave tips and advise but no pressure. They helped us with the electrical and lighting planning and their experience was helpful. to We had a 1200 sq ft basement done with a full bath and they did it on time and on budget with no surprises. I met the previous owner DB who is such a great guy. His family has taken over the business recently. They, apparently, have been involved in running the business for some time. I searched around a bit and their price for the basement remodel I was having done seemed to be best by far. To be sure, though, their quote was without some of the services others were including. In the end, they did an amazing job and came below all other quotes.
The job was about 1800 sq. ft. of basement remodel. It was unfinished. As such, they had to install all the studs, all electric, all plumbing and finishes, including installing a full bath and bar area. They have different crews that piggyback, one after the other, completing the tasks sequentially. It seems they have a good bit of business as sometimes crew members would have to be push back a few days some tasks intermittently. The job did not, however, have any significant delays and was completed in a timely fashion as advertised.
The process was very smooth and painless. They had a foreman who was in direct contact with me about all steps. I was most impressed with John for never letting a detail go by without being addressed. If I mentioned something, even casually, there was sure to be an email addressing my concern within a day or two and the concern was always addressed to my satisfaction. To be sure, there was never any "big" concerns, just little things that I, as the owner who has to live in the space, might be particular about that the contractor might not think about.
The workmanship is fantastic. The drywall came out great, the bathroom looks fantastic. The custom sliding door met expectations.
The negatives of the experience were few and far between. There really is only two, and one has nothing to do with Hivex. That is the simple fact that they will do whatever you want, and however you want it. So you need to have done all your homework up front. Know in advance if there are any special lighting requests, maybe there will be a special use area and they need to be made aware of that. I guess what I mean is that you might want to have a completed design, maybe with a designer, to present so that you get exactly what you need/want. Hivex was happy to work with me on all requests, but they didn't offer design services. Then again, maybe they would have offered more design advice if I had no idea what I wanted before I started. As it was, I presented a very specific floor plan on day one which I did review with their people in order to create the plans to apply for a builder's permit.
The only other thing worth mentioning is that their quote will not include some aspects of the completed project such as cabinet and floor installation and final pain coats. These can be significant costs and can easily add 50% of costs to your project. So, get your quotes in advance.
Ultimately, I have no reservations recommending Hivex and think they did a fantastic job and I am grateful for how smoothly it all went.

We had HIVEX build out basement and loved them. Loved their project plan, timeline and communication. It was not a hire pressure sale when they came out to look at the space. No hidden fees. The quality and design were perfect.
We have been in our house for ten years with an unfinished basement and have searched for companies over the years, but have never been 100 percent serious. When we got serious, we had several contractors look at the basement and their pricing was completely unaffordable. Then we were lucky enough to come across Dan Beatts with Hivex. Dan met with us, and after ten years we thought we had our basement figured out of how we wanted it. Dan was able to give us new ideas that I believe cost them more money, but regardless of that, in his eyes, it made more sense to do things the way that he described. I can't say enough about their staff. Their staff is "employed by them" no subcontracing!!! It was a one on one experience with all of their crew. We were no happy to get to know all the individuals that get to work with their company. I can not say enough about this company and would be more than happy to show off their work to anyone in the market for a new basement renovation. Believe me, this isn't all the pictures. We've had people walk in our basement, and their jaw dropped. Hivex stands behind their work and if you have a problem down the road, they will take care of it. A + in my book!! So glad that we went with them!!
We recently had HIVEX complete 4 separate rooms in our basement and are very, very satisfied with their work. They finished a few weeks ahead of schedule. All work were performed by very competent staff who were friendly and very professional. They were very mindful and considerate of our property. The project supervisor, Bob Salo, was always available and accommodating when we had questions or special requests; this one point is very critical when considering complex projects. Hats off to Bob and all the workers at HIVEX ( B&B ).

Never used the service but saw an employee giving people trouble over masks at a local store refusing to wear a mask... makes me really not want to use the service if they dont care about keeping our community safe. Wont wear one in a store what makes me think they would wear one in my home.
Hivex Basement Finishing Company came highly recommended, now we know why. The estimate was accurate, competitive, and the delivery was ahead of schedule. The project manager was on top of everything from start to finish and nothing fell through the cracks. When we conducted the pre-drywall and final walk throughs only minor corrections were identified and corrected on the spot, no questions asked. The materials used and the craftsmanship equaled or surpassed the original builder of our home. The thing I really appreciate working with Hivex is the no BS way of doing business. If they said it would happen, it happened. This team of professionals made it happen for me and my wife delivering an outstanding finished product.
