My boyfriend loves this gift, it's incredible to see an old map of the city we live in. The only reason I'm rating this a 4/5 is due to some technical difficulties which automatically switched my country from Canada to the US. When I reached out to staff, they were friendly and timely with their responses and notified me that they fixed it, and are continuing to find a solution to the problem. I will definitely be purchasing from them again! It's honestly, such a great gift idea! Thanks Historic Map Works!

There was a little bit of a mishap identifying and tracking my order, but it got printed and sent out in a timely manner. I honestly couldn't be happier with the print. Customer service/communication is a little lacking but the quality of the product is fantastic. Will definitely order more maps from them in the future.
Casie at Historic Map Works is a star! So helpful and responsive, and when we had an issue with our order, they worked with us to correct it quickly - in time for Christmas gifting. Will definitely order again!
My husband is in the Navy and we frame a map of every new place we live in. I have purchased three prints through Historic Map Works so far and they have all been wonderful additions to our home. I also wanted to mention that Casie was amazing when I emailed a question about my most recent order. She went above and beyond with customization ideas for my print to make it perfect. I will definitely be purchasing through them in the future and I hope others do as well!
This site is an unparalleled source of information for historians, genealogists, scholars, and anyone who is interested in the past. It's easy to use, generous with its resources, and offers printed maps of all that is available online. Invaluable.
CASIE! She provided me with probably the best customer service I ve ever had, ever! She was helpful, friendly, polite and quickly responsive. I must say I was shocked! I don t get good customer service. Usually I get someone reading from a script and not putting any effort beyond their requirement to assist me. CASIE went above and beyond. I wanted to get an overdue refund for a returned map and purchase another. She made it happen without the usual red tape. She researched the transaction and set up a PayPal account for me to purchase the second map using the refund money and putting the remainder on PayPal without me having to do hardly anything. WOW! Thank you so much!
I found Historic Map Works online as I was looking around for a map of Chicago in 1890. I chose Historic Map Works but needed some help navigating the website (only because I m not very tech savvy). I ended up communicating with a real person at Historic Map Works, and I couldn t have asked for a warmer response! I found just the map I needed and hope to work with this great company in the future!
I ORDERED A MAP OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD 3YRS AGO. I FINISHED THE REMODEL AND WENT TO FRAME IT ....ITS HORRIBLE ITS NOT THE MAP I ORDERED I ORDERED A CREME MAP DONE IN PENCIL OR FADED INK THE LOOK WAS OLD WHICH I LOVED ITS A 1937 VERSION OF AN AREA IN PROVIDENCE RHODE ISLAND AND THERE IS A LARGE NO. 8 IN THE RIGHT HAND CORNER I PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR THIS MAP I WOULD LIKE THE MAP I ORDERED AND I WILL GLADLY SEND THIS UGLY ONE BACK AND IF IT IS OUT OF PRINT I WILL EXPECT A TEFUND ITS TOO UGLY TO SHOW IN MY HOME THANKS
The staff at Historic Map Works is truly unbelievable! They go above and beyond to be helpful in getting you the map that you want. And the quality is exceptional. I've purchased one map and had it professionally framed and am now searching for another. My husband loves having a map of the street where he spent his childhood!
Terrible customer service. I've been trying to order for 2 weeks and it is still not sorted! I've been emailing for 2 weeks and they have even deleted emails when I complained and changed the original email date from the 2nd to the 10th. This is a joke!
I was so excited to find a print of my third great uncle's historic farm on Historic Map Works, but I didn't want the picture of the other house that was on the same page with it. So I contacted the Works and asked if they could separate the two pictures and print just the one I wanted.
Casie responded right away and was very helpful and accommodating, simply telling me to specify what I wanted in the comments section of the order. I did just that when I ordered a 20" x 30" print online, which they made and mailed the same day!
I received the print three days later, and when my son-in-law brought it to me, he said I had the biggest smile he'd ever seen! The print turned out exactly as I had hoped--crisp, clear, and beautiful--and the paper is definitely good quality. Now I can't wait to put it in a comparable frame and hang it on the wall of the historic house I just purchased!
Thank you so much to the staff at Historic Map Works! They did everything as promised, and I highly recommend them to anyone considering a purchase from there. If you want only a single image from a two-image page, as I did, just explain it to them, and you can get a print of the one you want.
Wonderful company, and absolutely the best customer service! I ordered a 16x20 historical map, and it is absolutely beautiful! The quality of the archival paper is excellent, and the print very crisp and readable. Now here's where their customer service shined: the map I ordered has a very large border around the boundary lines of the map; the map itself is inside the boundary lines, as you would see online. Some of my ancestors' names are on the map, and while it is beautiful, the print seemed just a tad small, and with all that wasted border space around the map, I was wondering if it could be enlarged to maximize the map within the 16x20 frame. I emailed the company, and shortly thereafter received a very encouraging reply from Casie Noble, saying absolutely they could customize the map as I suggested. (Great! I can give another family member the first map.) Casie cheerfully answered all my questions as we emailed back and forth, and she even sent me a preview so I could be sure of what it would look like! That was so reassuring, and I felt like she really cared about pleasing me, the customer. Wow- that is rare nowadays! I had ordered two different maps with the same criteria (maximizing the map within the frame space), and she worked with me on both of them, sending previews, etc., until they were just right. (It only took a couple of tweaks. She's really good at this!) I greatly appreciated her patient and cheerful correspondence. She even said it was fun working with me, and that she would bring my maps to the post office personally! Can you beat that? Casie Noble, you and your company are the best! I will update this review when I receive my order, which should be within a week! I can't wait! :)
I was looking for a gift for my mom, and I found this locally owned business that could print me a map of the city that she was born in. Came out great! Thank you!
I am a historian among other things and I rely on Historic Map Works to get research done and to help clients research the History of their properties! These gusy are the best!
Received my 2nd map from Historic Map Works yesterday and I could not be more pleased! The framed product was packaged well and arrived safe and sound during a time of year when shipping is at it's highest volume. The print is perfect and is exactly what my mother was looking for in her new home. I highly recommend Historic Map Works as they aren't just producing maps, they are creating art.
Absolutely horrible customer service. I ordered a map to be delivered, and within minutes of placing the order I realized the site had put in the incorrect shipping address by default. I immediately contacted customer service, and was assured by Dalinda that the problem had been remedied.
When I received the shipping notification, I discovered that the address had NOT been corrected, and the map was being shipped to the wrong address. I contacted customer service again, and had to follow up two days later because I had not received a response. When I did receive a response, it was as follows: "We now have 200 orders in our system and we are printing and shipping as fast as we can. This reduces greatly the amount of personal service we can provide. All I can do is say I am sorry. Dalinda Carpenter"
So, I pay $100 for a map that was supposed to go to the right place, was told it WAS going to the right place, and when I find out it isn't, the company does nothing to make it right? That's completely unacceptable. When I replied to the email asking to speak with someone else, I received no response.
I will never do business with this company again. Dalinda is extremely unprofessional and you will not have any inevitable issues resolved.
UPDATE: After contacting the BBB, I was issued a refund by historic map works, with this email:
"I have done your refund and can only once more say I am sorry. I am working very hard not to have to say that anymore! Dalinda Carpenter"
Another online scam. Don t order anything from Historic Map Works. They will take your money and you will not get your map. Not a licensed business. I will report.
