Breakfast and swimming pool were great, though breakfast wasrather expensive. The room, in block B, was missing basic elements. The bathroom had no door... even a sliding door would have been enough. There was no drawer in the room and the space to hang clothes was very limited... I stayed four nights so I did not have space for everything and had to keep clothes in my suitcase... very annoying. There was a portable electric heater available at the room, that I had to use to heat the room, and the only way to plug it was putting the heater onto the desk

Following a very disappointing visit to the Living...

Following a very disappointing visit to the Living Well part of this hotel, I feel I need to write a review to warn other people of the discrimination process Living Well choose to follow.

On arriving at the swimming pool reception with our 2 grandchildren who are 2 &3 to go swimming we gave the codes which our son and daughter had paid for as a thank for looking after the children to be told as we are not the people who purchased the tickets in advance due to Health and Safety we would not be able to use the facilities.

During this time a number of people signed in and were only asked for their room number.

On returning home I checked both the websites of Living Well at The Hilton Metropole Hotel and had a live chat as if I was booking a room asking if I could use the facilities and what are the term and conditions, to be informed that could book a room and use the facilities. At know point was I told about any Health and Safety issues.

This can only lead me to believe unless you have paid a yearly fee or are a hotel guest Living Well prefer you not to use the facilities. This needs to be made clear on both the hotel and living wells website.

This is discrimination, not a member or hotel guest you can t use the facilities.

Large, busy hotel serving the airport and NEC... so you get park-and-fly guests and whatever weird and wonderful characters are attending weird and wonderful events at the NEC as well as corporate events and weddings. They are used to it and while there was a long queue at check in staff cleared it quickly. Bar staff friendly and mostly on the ball (though clearing tables not their forte); a great place for a (over-priced) drink, if nothing else for the people-watching!

Sauna/steam room/pool facilities great (although could be larger due to the invariably heavy footfall).

The hotel itself was a little tired... the lifts need upgrading, as do doors, floors, fixtures and fittings and definitely the plumbing. But mostly clean and functional.

Food in the bar was good and quick (though choice was somewhat limited), breakfast very decent, but the beer-lines could do with a more regular clean.

All in all a good hotel for the location... but a Hilton of old (when Hilton meant the pinnacle of luxury) it isn't.

The room was very dated. The TV kept humming like it had interference the watching TV was a myth. Some of the lights weren't working and the sheets could be better. Very disappointing for a hotel of this calibre.

This is a very large hotel, split into three blocks, close to the NEC and Birmingham airport. It has excellent conference facilities. I've stayed here four times. The rooms vary from block to block. Some are of the "loft" type being very small. I don't recommend these. The food in the breakfast room is OK, but there can be a lengthy queue.

Expensive airport hotel. Am stranded here after a Flugannulierung. Small single room booked spontaneously, but for 230 a night. The rooms were OK, but nothing special. There is a free airport shuttle service. The restaurant in the hotel was not bad, the prices in order. Unfortunately on the day in the hotel a company party and it was quite loud the whole night. Booking by phone was very expensive.

Went to conference dinner, food was tasty, could have been a bit more generous though. The problem was other things eg seating plans for 10 but only 9 place settings and chairs, squeezed a 10th on it tables too small. Reception only had 1 on it and very slow. Main bar took 40mjns to get served, and they just randomly went through the people waiting, not the order by the queue

The hotel have hosted a convention I used to attend yearly. Every year the staff have been amazing, putting up with all us fuzzy freaks and geeks!

Some even love to participate themselves, and it is great to see the hotel encourage their staff to also have a good time along with us. Party on!

I love having a huge queen-size bed to myself, the room was clean and comfortable. Bar meals were tasty and reasonably priced for a hotel. Breakfast was great and the staff in the dining room very helpful and friendly.

Old as British hotels are. Staff do the minimum. No smiles or greeting when passing staff in the passage. Room cleanliness is 7/10. Found a couple of long hairs on the floor, a spider and the shower didn't drain off quick enough so showered in a pool of water almost ankle deep. I've stayed here few times before and had exactly the same problems, except the spider. Internet is really bad. Not great, just adequate. Would expect more of a Hilton.

I booked the Hilton for my business trip because I relied on it being an up to date hotel with the usual commodities of a Hilton.
I was quite disappointed when I walked into my Twin Delux room and felt like I d gone back to the 90 s. The TV is a pretty old (it even has a clock on it) LCD flat screen, where out of the few channels you can watch, at least a couple you can t even see because the image is so disfigured. Half the buttons in the remote control don t actually work, and when you press the menu one, absolutely nothing happens. I was welcomed by a moth on my pillow and heating that didn t quite work to be honest. When I looked for an extra blanket in the closet, I was surprised to find none. The chair is peeling off, the phone on the bedside table doesn t work, there was no alarm clock and there is absolutely no way the room temperature was 25 degrees at any point.
The towels were great as well as the Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries, but that s about it when it comes to similarities to previous stays at Hilton Hotels.
Unless you are looking for a throw back to the 90 s, I wouldn t recommend the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

Ordered steaks for dinner (forced to stand to wait to order for ten minutes - I use a walking stick!). When the food arrived it was necessary to ask for steak knives and was directed to the staff condiments point for salt, there was none there and staff had to be sent in search. Not what is expected in a 5 star global hotel chain.

A friend of my girlfriend booked us a room at the Hilton Birmingham Metrople for 1 night, we got to the hotel at 2 pm, checked in took our luggage up, room wasn't what had been booked for us, so we came back down to change rooms, the receptionist said there will be a room available at 3pm, we said ok we'll wait the 15 minutes, so we sat and had a coffee, no one cane to us so we went over to the front desk we eventually got our room 45 minutes later, we went up, the room wasn't set up properly for us, rather than go back and make a fuss about it we just bit our lips and got on with it, the was going quickly and we had things to do. We went out the resort world had a meal in nandos, it was a nice evening out. We came back , got to bed, not too comfortable sad to say, my back is in bits, but it will recover. Went down for breakfast, was greeted by a lovely lady Sarah, she was showing us to our table, we said about the mix up with our room and how it wasn't set for us and we're not coming back, Sarah wasn't happy to hear of our experiences, she said leave it with me I'll sort it, bless her, she looked after us really well and it's made my girlfriend and I have a rethink, we shall give the hilton a second go we will be back. Thanks to Sarah for helping us out, she's an angel.

I stayed here for a work training course. The room was clean, the bed comfy. The staff were really friendly and helpful with good local knowledge. The breakfast was one of the best I've had in a hotel, with a beautiful selection of fresh fruits, cooked to order in from of you omelets and waffles. Fresh pastries, and the usual bacon, eggs, sausage beans, etc along side more continental options. I would definitly go back and recommend it. (the bar staff were helpful and had a good knowledge of their whiskeys)

Stayed here for a business trip and couldn't fault it. Use of the pool and gym, plus sauna and steam room was included and all were well maintained. I ordered steak via room service for dinner and it was great (although the peppercorn sauce wasn't the best). The room was clean, fresh and a good size. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with a really wide selection. Would definitely return and recommend.

Generally clean and tidy, as expected from Hilton. Close to relevant links and good accessibility. Friendly staff, room service was very good.
Bed was ok, as were the washroom facilities. Nice cosy rooms as you'd expect.
Externally hotel is not much to look at but it was a business trip and did the trick!!

Stayed overnight at the Hilton as we were flying from Birmingham airport on an early flight. We didn't arrive until 8pm so didn't spend much time in the hotel however the check in staff were polite, friendly and very efficient ensuring we had all the information to get to the airport in good time for our flight. They recommended the shuttle bus which runs every 20 minutes from the hotel. The bus arrived on time, was driven by a very friendly and helpful gentleman who picked us up right outside the front door and dropped us off outside departures. The hotel room was modern and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities and our stay was pleasant and comfortable. Would definitely use the Hilton Birmingham Metropole again.

With it being a Hilton, you do expect a certain level of quality.

The truth is, although the staff are polite, the building is showing its age, and there doesn't appear to be any signs of a 'face lift' in place.

Conference hall wasn't that good, acoustics were dull.

Great staff clean hotel expensive room price for the type of room we had, as we booked for a charity ball and told no special offer rooms left!
Good facilities fab breakfast could not fault the choice and anything you coulnt see was bought to your table staff very attentive.
The hotel is let down by its choices of drink especially beers. These were often bottled and the main bar had flat Guinness no bitter and at 4pm the 1st drink we had at the main bar tasted disappointingly awful!!! Later on the evening only 1 person serving a busy bar!
We have stayed many times over the last 20 years and will undoubtably stay again.

So many function rooms, this place is absolutely THE place to go for BIG events. Partypicz photo booth hire provided the event photography for one of the black and white balls at Christmas where there were over 600 people in the one room, but they have rooms capable of holding over 1200 people! Fantastic.

Disappointing - poor quality resources e.g. most of the lifts were broken and the stairs were very basic uncarpeted stairways where you had to maneuver bags. Drinks very dear with long waits at the bar. Breakfast cold and quality not very good. Room again basic was expecting better.

Very spacious family rooms with modern facilities. The breakfast is awesome, there is nothing to be desired. Hotel has its own indoor pool and fitness areas. The staff is friendly and courteous. Only the parking with 12 pounds for half a day I find exaggerated.

Comfortable and clean room and good facilities, but all rather pricy. Didn't get all the information needed at check-in for WiFi, parking etc, so a little confusing. Good location though, and very friendly staff.

It was ok for one night. The maze of corridors between lift lobbies, shower leaking through the glass door, deathly chill in the room through the window and loud bassy vibrations and music all through the night until at least 2am was not plesent. Thanks to the increadbly warm and comfy bed and plentiful and wide range breakfast Buffett I am willing to overlook most of the negatives.

We had to queue for an hour to check in, it was horrific. Then when we got our key card, we arrived at our room to find it was already occupied. So then we had to go all the way back to reception and start over. It was not a good start to our stay.
