Our group was staying at the Torrey Pines Hilton for a business trip. We had 6 rooms. The rooms were nice, but as a group we had a number of experiences which lead to this lower rating. There was just one person in front of me during check in, and yet it took 10 minutes before they could check me in. One of the rooms had macaroni and cheese in the safe and another room had an ant problem and cleaner left in the bathroom. It just isn't the experience you expect when staying at the Torrey Pines Hilton.

Used some AMEX points to pay, and Hilton Honors to get immediate upgrade to a bigger and better room on the top floor on short notice and during the bz UCSD commencement ceremonies. From the moment we checked in I could tell I loved this hotel; the service was outstanding, views were spectacular, and the room was very well appointed and luxurious.

I stayed for 1 night only because, my son was leaving to boot camp, the next day. The room we had was ok ... Felt very 70's the furniture reminded me of the 70's. I didn't mind it but wasn't expecting that. I did take my own Lysol wipes and wipes down everything. The room didn't have an AC/heater and it got chilly at night with the patio door closed. Also not enough towels. I would go again and ask for a different style room and maybe facing the ocean.

The hotel was okay overall. Nothing special for the price. Our original room had toilet problems. It wouldn't flush properly. Even after 2 maintenance guys and management looking at it, they couldn't fix it. They still didn't offer me a new room. They said to check back with them the next day so they can have someone else look at it. At this point, they should have just moved me to a new room because if I had to take a dump between that evening and 12pm the next day, then I'd have to use the bathroom in the lobby. Well that's inconvenient when you're on the 4th floor! It took over 2 hours of our time dealing with this back and forth nonsense before I had to ask a third person the next day for a new room. They finally obliged. No discount on the room or anything offered for my inconvenience. Besides that, the rooms are funky and isn't worth the price we paid. Needless to say, we won't be staying here again. I give it 2 stars because the attendant at the pool area and our waiter at the restaurant were very nice.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are average for the price, but clean and does the job. Cell phone service is intermittent and made for some very inconvenient moments. The only access I saw to the outside pool was through the restaurant, which is SUPER awkward.

I planned my wedding reception at the fairway ballroom with the event manager Marina Dimas last fall.
The preparation went smooth with Marina, however the celebration itself did not turn into a fairy tale wedding.
The sub-event manager was running after us to remind us on the tied schedule. The drinks were so heavily filled with alcohol during the paid cocktail hour per drink that it was not tasty at all. During dinner the wine was not poured on time, some people including myself did not receive any deserts nor cake as it was seating on the side, and to top everything they asked me when I was having a good time, if I like to take my cake home and until today i don't remember saying "no please toss it away."
In addition we booked the ballroom until 130 am, but guests were telling me that they started cleaning up around 1230 am.

Please make sure that your original event manager, who you plan your wedding with, will attend your wedding and make sure that you get to enjoy your expensive cake and wedding celebration itself.

Location was great.

Location was great.
Room was spacious but very dated. Not worth $270/ night.
Staff.....not so much -
Bellboy told me to hang my own bag to trolley. HA!
Rude and unexperienced front desk staff, including the manager Jennifer ....a smile wouldn't hurt, you are in customer service !
Restaurant staff needs a lot of training- waited for the hostess for over 10 min every time....and they weren't even busy !

It was a horrible stay due to all the staff I have encountered. I do not recommend this hotel. Book elsewhere for a little more.

Beautiful hotel overlooking the renowned Torrey Pines golf course and beyond that the Pacific ocean. Most if not all rooms have views. Be aware that you cannot cross the golf course to get to the bluffs overlooking the ocean unless you are playing the course. There is access beyond the golf course in either direction but it's a pretty good hike from the hotel.

The hotel staff was very responsive and friendly. The restaurant was fantastic (went for lunch and dinner and was impressed at both). The description of our room in the 4000 block as a golf course view is a little misleading (course is mostly obscured by another part of the resort). Overall, a wonderful resort, just be careful about golf course view rooms.

For the price and horrible customer service, I wouldn't choose this hotel. Furthermore, to receive a text after 10pm inquiring about your stay is so rude when you have to be up early for a conference and were asleep.

They first put me in a handicap accessible room, when I went back to the front desk to ask to be moved, they put me on the bottom floor with a patio that made me feel unsafe.

Unless I absolutely have to stay here for work, I won't be back.

Nice rooms with a great view - try and go for the corner rooms on the 3rd or 4th floors (they overlook the pool and the ocean). Parking is $30/night but we were able to get a group discount for $15. Walking distance from Broken Hill trail - a great trail down to the beach/cliff overlooking the water.

The room had a balcony and a huge patio. The patio over looked the 18 hole of the South course. It had a big table 4 chairs an umbrella and 2 lounge chairs with a small table between. There was room to entertain about 20 guests comfortably. Rm 2091 if your interested.

Staff was super friendly and professional. The clientele were rude. Parking is confusing because there's a separate parking company on the premises and we ended up getting charged twice for parking.

The location is fantastic, even if you don t golf. Love this hotel, great staff and very spacious rooms. The views are fantastic and there are many activities nearby. Great hiking directly from the hotel! The breakfast buffet is excellent. I highly recommend the hotel if you don t mind paying a little premium for the location.

Had an extremely bad experience with the guy at the desk who was extremely rude.in spite of it being a corporate booking and he having a credit card authorization I was made to pay for the night using my card and had to do it as it was 10.30 in the night..needless to say I cut short my booking and checked out 6 am next morning and moved to an other hotel. As a frequent traveller for the first time I met front office staff at a hotel who did not understand hospitality !!

Fantastic staff could not do enough for us. However a hotel with over 300 rooms should have more than 1 restaurant!! There was only 1 pool with about 46 sunloungers and some private cobanas not enough to accommodate anywhere near enough guests!!!!
It's a conferences or wedding venue really the Lodge is a better bet.
Have to say as championship golf courses go, Torrey Pines South (championship course) was very boring wide open fairways had to miss just long. Played from tips and gives a greater appreciation for the skills of the pros to reach the greens..

Reasonable rate, followed by unreasonable expense for any amenity, including $29 per night parking in the suburbs and $5.50 for a bottle of water. Also loud random machinery noises in the room.

This hotel is amazing! The views are stunning from most garden/pool facing rooms. Next time i will stay on the 3rd or 4th floor as the 1st floor did not walk out to the pool as I assumed. The resort fee is a bit hefty but is worth it, especially the Pro Shop discount and free coffee/tea. I absolutely loved my stay, I will be back next time I'm in San Diego.

Despite the huge traffic this wknd for the Farmers Open, the staff at the hotel was accommodating and wonderful.
Almost the entire time all seats within the lobby were full to capacity, rooms were spectacular and the views out over the Torrey Pines golf course, well you can't ask for more.
I totally recommend staying here at this property and enjoying the service of good staff.

My stay at the Torrey Pines Hilton was overall rea...

My stay at the Torrey Pines Hilton was overall really good. However it barely got 4 stars and I'll explain why.

Keep in mind that I am a regular Joe who has never been to a hotel that was higher than a 2 or 3 star hotel.

But let's go through the pros first.

Richard! I think there's a couple Richard bell hops, but tall Richard with the beard and bald head that worked in the morning's while I was there, is the Richard I am talking about. Richard is the main reason this review went to 4 stars for me. He was super helpful and friendly. My girlfriend and I were at the hotel because she had a knee surgery at the neighboring Scripps clinic, and he was Johnny on the spot if we needed anything, and was super helpful when trying to plan things for my girlfriend and I to do outside of the hotel while she was recovering. Absolutely someone that we will both remember from this stay.

Other pros.... The room was clean, the housekeepers were attentive, and the outdoor/pool area was very beautiful and well kept. The shower was hot and had pressure as well..which is a big deal for me. And one last thing is the breakfast buffet. It was very good! A little pricey in my book, but good! It was also nice to have a balcony to the outside.

Now the cons, and what brought the score down to almost a 3 star.

I feel the building was really outdated and did not match the outside. The inside is very dark, dark wood, copper accents, dark brown carpet. And the outside is this very tropical and bright area. They felt like they didn't belong together.

The carpet in our room was very dated and worn out. The beauty rings around the rail mounts in the shower were loose and rattling off. The paint is chipped throughout and different shades where you can tell repairs were done at one time. The internet modem box on the desk in our room was literally broken in half, and the standing lamp is falling apart. If you brush up against the lamp, not only does the shade fall off, but the light and socket falls out as well. And the wood furniture was outdated and sort of tattered.

The two biggest disappointments in our room were the microwave and refrigerator. As I said before, I've never stayed at a hotel that is considered to be this high class, so this may be common...but there's no microwave in the room. The refrigerator basically didn't work. We took and Uber to get some groceries for our stay and had to throw away the lunch meat a few days in because the refrigerator just wasn't cold. And it appeared that the entire mechanism to change the temperature had been ripped out.

Overall the experience was good. Nothing bad happened outside of having to throw away groceries. The staff was mostly pleasant (Richard being a stand out). However, from a working man's point of view, I probably would never stay here again for the price.
