One of the great treasures of the Hermitage is the fabulous jewelry collection. Hundreds of them shine in Jewels! Together with many portraits and an abundance of richly decorated gowns and costumes, they present two centuries of fashion More

Beautiful building. The Romanovs & Revolution exhibition was a beautiful, varied and impressive exhibition. It is a pity that the audio tour regularly had nothing to do with the part of the exhibition where you were at that time. And I was looking forward to the texts by Esther Verhoef, but he read exactly the texts on the wall. That adds nothing.

Always nice exhibitions, too bad that no student discount is given and that you as a museum cardholder almost always have to pay extra. Perhaps because it is museum night tonight, but nobody really could laugh.

What an impressive art in a very beautiful location of Amsterdam. Old masters in combination with modern experimental art. And if you need a bit of relaxation then a delicious restaurant awaits you at the exit. Definitely an art museum that everyone should see once. Unfortunately, students also pay an unreasonable amount of money.

a lovely walk through the past ... this used to be the first house for poor elderly protestant women from 17th century. It is a testament to how Dutch society took care of their people then already. now a beautiful museum with temporary exhibitions.

Nice and spacious museum.

Nice and spacious museum.
For the museum card holders, they have a separate self-scan cash register at the cash registers on the left, so you never have to stand in line.
Really great arranged.

Went to the exposition of the old masters, which was really recommended. Rembrandt in real life is impressive. It also has a beautiful green courtyard and a restaurant where you can eat a bite afterwards (or before). A tip if you visit museums more often is to buy a museum card, the separate ticket is quite pricey.

The imposing building located on the river Amstel ...

The imposing building located on the river Amstel between the Nieuwe Herengracht and the Nieuwe Keizersgracht in Amsterdam was built in 1681 by the Diaconate of the Reformed congregation as a home for elderly women in need. It has served over 300 years as housing for the elderly, last two decades of the last century as a nursing home. At that time I became acquainted with this special building.
As a medical student I did not have a lot of money financially and therefore I tried to earn some extra money. So I came via an employment agency in the Amstelhof, this was the name of this nursing home. I will never forget when I took my first step in Amstelhof. The overwhelming atmosphere of 300-year-old building was overshadowed by the penetrating air of urine, stool and the inevitable death. Anyone who has ever smelled that knows exactly what I'm talking about.
In 1999 the building was transferred to the municipality of Amsterdam because it no longer met the standards of that time. In 2 years time the building was converted into Hermitage Amsterdam, a branch of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. I can not say anything other than the great success. It has gotten his soul back. Beautiful exhibitions are now being organized that emphasize the historical value of this building.

Beautiful jewelry collection with good explanation. Even without an audio tour. Due to the corona measures it occasionally stopped on the top floor. It is a pity that you are also accosted here by sellers of the bank giro lottery.

Nice!

What an incredibly beautiful exhibition.

What an incredibly beautiful exhibition.
It remains of course a double feeling, what happened at the time. We can now enjoy all the splendor.
